Year: 2012 make/model: Jeep Grand Cherokee 5. 7 l v8, 4wd mileage: ~140,000 miles date of incident: [insert date] location: mckinney, texas (near u. S. 75 exit) description of the safety issue: while driving normally, the service 4wd system warning illuminated. Seconds later, the lightning-bolt symbol (electronic throttle control) appeared, and the engine stalled abruptly without warning. All power steering and power-brake assist were lost while the transmission was still in drive. The vehicle rolled backward on a slight grade as if in neutral. Attempts to restart the vehicle failed. Even carmax technicians, at whose lot the vehicle came to rest, were unable to start it. A strong hot/burning electrical odor was present immediately after shutdown. This indicates a possible overheating or shorting event in the electrical or fuel-relay system (tipm or throttle-body circuit). Had this failure occurred on u. S. 75 at highway speed (80–85 mph), I would have lost steering assist and braking ability in heavy traffic — a situation that could have led to a severe collision or injury. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this case as a potential recurrence or expansion of the existing recall group. The combination of a sudden stall, complete loss of control systems, no-restart condition, and electrical-burn odor constitutes a serious and ongoing safety defect that endangers vehicle occupants and others on the roadway. Supporting information: – carmax technicians confirmed the vehicle would not restart. – recent maintenance included new fuel pump, injectors, hoses, and cooling-system components (~$10 k). – warning lights: “service 4wd system” and “electronic throttle control (lightning-bolt)” appeared immediately before stall.

On 10/24/2025 my wife and daughter were in the vehicle driving to her school. My wife was on the phone with me when she stated the car was reving really high and sounded like it was going to blow up how loud it was. She was driving at about 25-30 mph when the car suddenly jerked and shut off completely, the battery light turned on and the check engine light flashed before it shut off. She was able to brake and roll to the side of the road. I had instructed her to keep her foot on the break since it was not letting her shift to park. We stayed on the phone as I contacted Jeep directly and get a hold of a rep she said she was able to put it in park and she tried to turn the car on and she was able to turn it on after 10 min. She drove with the hazards on to my daughters school and dropped her off I told her park the car and don't use it until I get home. I got home on 10/26/2025 and the light was off I made an appointment with Jeep for that week 10/31 and they stated they were unable to find anything in the computer for the issue that had occurred instead they saw a issue with my heating and it was pump. I have a case open with Jeep and they have yet to return my call after a week of non stop calling, I emailed stelantis but they stated they cant assist has to be Jeep directly. I would love some help with this as the car has been to the dealership three time for multiple issues and recalls that they stated they did and still show are not done. I have a schduled appointment for the 68c but there is no remedy yet.
10/24 loss of power while driving. Dash indicated vehicle was not on. Tried pushing the ignition button but received the message that vehicle could not start unless it was in park. Accessory power continued allowing me to pull to the side of the road. Fortunately I was not on the freeway but on a residential road. Was able to restart after putting the vehicle in park and drove the few blocks to home. Vehicle was operating in hybrid mode and had 2% left on the battery so it had not switch to ice mode at the time of the incident. Reported the issue to Jeep and they arranged towing to the dealership. Dealer reports no codes and cannot find an issue. Vehicle is still at the dealer as of 11/1. The September recall was done early in October and since then the hybrid warning light has not come on like it did before the software upgrade. Did not experience a loss of power before the recall software was installed.

The car gets started, message pops up saying to safely put the vehicle into park it will shut off soon. It then starts shaking, will not allow you to shift gears, revs up still shaking, it then shuts off and all of the dash panels messages are popping up, abs, a message to service the air suspension, engine light, car not in park (can't shift it) (we have put tire chucks to hopefully keep it from moving), etc are flashing as well as the interior lights, exterior lights flashing. The only way to get all of the lights to stop flashing is to unhook the brand new auxiliary battery. Mechanic has scanned for codes, more than 60 appear. Once we are able to reattach the battery, we were able to start it, put it into gear before all of the messages and lights started going off again.

On 10/19/2025, my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe experienced a serious electrical malfunction. When I attempted to start the vehicle, it became stuck in run mode and would not shift into drive. The vehicle also would not shut off — even after pressing the start/stop button multiple times. The hybrid system remained active, and the dashboard stayed illuminated. The only way to power the vehicle down was to disconnect the 12-volt battery manually. This created a significant safety concern, as the vehicle could have remained running unattended or in an enclosed space. Afterward, the check engine light came on. The dealership later stated they “just reset the ecm,” but no explanation was provided for why the vehicle failed to shut off or shift out of park. This incident indicates a possible defect in the electrical, powertrain, or propulsion control system. It poses a safety risk to occupants and anyone nearby if the issue reoccurs.
While driving, my car stopped and on the dashboard was a message that said shift to p. This happened 2x in a week.
Vehicle had recall done for “loss of propulsion” and module replaced. Had vehicle back for 2 days and while driving 55mph, it shut itself off abruptly. Had to find an emergency place to coast to. The display says “service charging system”.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving out of the driveway, the transmission unexpectedly shifted into neutral. The shift to park message was displayed on the screen. The shifter became stuck and failed to shift to park(p). The vehicle was restarted. While driving 55 mph, the message “shift to park" was displayed. The "vehicle was at too high a speed" message was displayed. The vehicle failed to shift into park. The vehicle failed to move. The drive warning light was flashing, accompanied by an abnormal dinging sound. Upon further research, the contact was able to link the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 25v011000 (power train). The contact called the local dealer, who confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
Car not going out of park. Seems to be stuck in gear. Code p1dab.

I was taking my daughter to school and we were stopped at a light when the check engine light came on. When the light turned green and I pressed the gas the vehicle didn’t seem to respond at all and I rolled my car at the right turn and parked it. I turned it off and back on and it was still doing the same thing. I had someone pick up my daughter and take her to school. I started scheduling a tow but after it sat for a while it was able to drive to a shop for inspection where they tested it and received the error code: p076f = gear 7 incorrect ratio. I was told the entire engine needs to be replaced. The vehicle has low mileage. Our safety was at risk because I had no warning to get the car to the shop before a major malfunction. I was very fortunate my car was stopped at the time. If I was waiting at a left turn in an intersection we could have had a terrible collision. The exact problem has not been reproduced. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer.
When driving the vehicle, it appears to shift roughly and at times, it seems that there is no power to the vehicle.
My vehicle is losing power every randomly literally cutting off and on. Flashing lights won’t start at time , next day drives completely fine. I do not understand.

On September 10th, 2025, at approximately 7:45am, I was driving my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe at 57 mph on the freeway during heavy traffic. The “service hybrid electrical system” warning appeared, and the vehicle immediately stalled and forced itself into emergency park while in motion. This sudden failure created a severe safety hazard for myself and surrounding drivers. I experienced an anxiety attack from the incident and had to call my husband for help. This is not the first time the vehicle has stalled, but it is the most dangerous occurrence to date. This vehicle is unsafe and poses a life-threatening risk on public roads.

Vehicle will all suddenly while driving on the roads with speed, dash will blink and start saying to select the gear. At this point vehicle either has to be put in parking (while trying to figure out where to pull over) and reselect the gear, or completely shut off, re start and select gear in order to drive. When the dash blinks vehicle accelerator just revs the engine, loss of power occurs. This especially happens after a fuel up and you move away from gas station.
The ptu (transfer case) is not working. It started as more of a transmission issue. I would be driving at times and my transmission would not shift up. I had to manually shift my car to get it into gear. Now, it lead to knocking noises when I turn my steering wheel.
I believe it is something with the engine or an electrical component. I was driving and as I was parking my car shut off, was not able to completely park back end of the car is sticking out. I looked up if there were any current recalls using my VIN and nothing appeared. I did my own researching and found that there have been recalls for that model regarding the ptu, power steering and power loss which is the issue I am experiencing. My car turns off on its own and does not get any type of power. Started having trouble turning on my car over labor day weekend was not able to travel due to what I thought was my battery having issues, people were jumping me to be able to start my car. I then had my battery tested at o'reilly's on 9/3/2025 and when trying to jump start my car they shorted my engine block fuse which I was told after having my car towed to the mechanic and they took a look at it. I replaced my main battery thinking that would solve the issue and it did not and this was before the mechanic looked at it. I then had it towed to a mechanic where they replaced the engine block fuse and I was told that the car was good and running after paying on 9/19/2025. I left the mechanic and came to work where after two hours I tried to start my car and it did not. I called the mechanic and was told it was my auxiliary battery after they came to look at the car and inspect it once again that same day 9/19/2025. I purchased and replaced the auxiliary battery and was able to start and drive the car for 1. 6 miles to my brothers apartment from my work before the car turned off on me as I was trying to park. There was an error message on the car at the time when it turned off which read with a caution symbol, "stop safely vehicle will shut off soon" and then turned off.

Lost power temporarily traveling on highway. Recall exists but mopar says they have no fix but aren't providing owners with alternative transportation or offering to take the vehicle back. If this issue is significant enough to warrant a recall and stop sale then the vehicles should not be on the road.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle jerked, and the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. In addition, the contact stated there was an abnormal sound coming from the power train. The message "transmission overheated" was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal before the vehicle stalled. Additionally, there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the vehicle. The contact stated that the gear shift lever failed to operate as intended. The message "transmission overheated" was displayed. The contact waited until the transmission had cooled down and the vehicle was restarted. The vehicle was able to drive to the residence, but was driving roughly. A mobile mechanic arrived at the residence and diagnosed the vehicle with transmission failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact parked the vehicle out of safety concerns. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 181,000.

The vehicle lost powertrain upon accelaration. Merging onto a freeway and accelerating my vehicle was as if it was in neutral. Same with starting out at a stop sign, coming to a turn lane and accerlerating to cross traffic, no powertrain. . . Just neutral. This issue was also reported by my mechanic when I brought it in as he test drove it. He contacted the local dealership and they inspected as well. Both came to the same conclusion as to what the issue was. The dealership mentioned having repaired over 30 vehicles with the same issue outside of warranty. This issue is very intermittent, which makes it even more dangerous and harder to diagnose until it starts to happen more often as my vehicle put on more miles. No warning lights or messages of failure. I was almost hit broadside at an intersection and nearly rearended on the interstate at 65 mph. My life was seriously in jeopardy as I panic stricken to get power entering the interstate with my vehicle basically in neutral. I had to pull over and shift to park and then to drive again. According the local dealership and many forums, Jeep is aware of this issue and has had no recall since the majority are out of warranty by the time they are diagnosed. I am beyond frustrated at the sheer danger this has. I am lucky I didn't get hit, someone else may not be. This should have been a recall before the warranty expired. I am now out thousands of dollars on repair and looking for resolution.
Backing into a parking space in reverse the vehicle all of a sudden begins to accelerate forward with the gear selector showing "r" illuminated almost causing me to hit 2 cars parked in front of me. After putting the vehicle in park and reverse again I was able to park and then the vehicle gave a "service hybrid system" warning and then stalled out. I had no issues prior to this and it seems the 95b recall had something to do with it as I had this performed a week prior. It has a stored code for " digital input crash " according to the dealer but they said it is deemed safe to drive. I don't think so.
Driving and engine shut off in the middle of the road. Vehicle indicated “service hybrid system. ” was able to restart vehicle after a few minutes.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 45-50 mph, the “service 4wd” message was displayed and flashing on and off. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the transfer case needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 116,387.
The car will cut off and loose power due to the battery issue it has been in the shop 5 or 6 times for this issue and some of the stays were over 30 days at a time they said they have no fix for the repair needed not to drive it but no one can make payments on a car and not drive it for months waiting on a repair. They refused to buy the car back or replace it with a new one.
My 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe began with an intense burning smell followed by the “service hybrid electric vehicle” warning light illuminating. After this, the vehicle experienced numerous electrical issues with the infotainment system, and the air conditioning failed. At one point, both the service and battery lights came on and the car lost all power, would not shift from park, and could not move. The service light continued to illuminate a total of eight times. During the seventh and eighth occurrences, the vehicle became unsafe: once while stopped, the electric and motor systems appeared to fight for power, and the next time while traveling around 55 mph, the car suddenly lost power and rapidly decelerated, creating a serious risk of a rear-end collision. This problem has been reproduced by the dealership, who attempted to replace the module control module without success. Dealership and myself contacted the manufacturer and were told there is currently no fix and to “hang tight” until one is available. Due to the severity and ongoing nature of the issue, I have also filed a claim with ncds USA for further support.
Subject: safety complaint – 2022 Jeep grand wagoneer – multiple safety-critical failures and warranty concerns. I am the owner of a 2022 Jeep grand wagoneer (purchase price $114,000 usd), well maintained and currently with 41,000 miles. Despite careful use, it has developed multiple recurring electrical and mechanical failures that present serious safety risks: •parking and side sensors fail, making obstacle and blind-spot detection unreliable. •rear-view camera often shows a solid blue screen in reverse, leaving no rear visibility. •main display flickers, freezes, or shuts off; infotainment reboots while driving, disabling controls. •entire electronic system resets mid-drive, affecting safety features. •power liftgate fails to open. •air suspension changes height on its own, affecting handling and stability. While the basic 36,000-mile warranty has expired, the vehicle still has a 60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Many of these failures involve safety-critical systems that should be addressed without cost to the owner. I recently brought the vehicle to an authorized Jeep dealer, who charged $1,399 usd just for diagnostics instead of addressing them under warranty or goodwill. These issues are widely reported by other 2022 grand wagoneer owners, suggesting systemic defects. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate promptly, require Jeep/stellantis to issue recalls where necessary, provide a permanent fix, and ensure dealers address safety-related defects regardless of basic warranty expiration.
The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the vehicle was making an abnormal clinking sound while accelerating at 60 mph. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 25v011000 (power train). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failure of the transfer case. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the parts were on back order. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 80,686.
Slipping, feels like transmission is going bad.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the vehicle jerked, and the transmission unexpectedly shifted into neutral. An unknown warning light flashed on the instrument panel. In addition, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The contact waited for a few minutes. The vehicle restarted and the vehicle functioned as intended. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. However, no cause for the failure was found. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. Upon investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 19v447000 (power train). However, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure recurred, and the vehicle was parked and no longer driven due to safety concerns. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
