Screens switches to italian, also screens freeze or go blank, front collision warning (fcw) light illuminates and can't be turned off. Bluetooth randomly disconnects, auto door locks don't engage; paddle shifters for manual gear selection cease functioning, pedestrian avoidance, automatic emergency braking, and high-beam assist stop working; memory seats unexpectedly adjust while driving. I have to bring the car to the dealer to fix this, this happens every 14 days or so.

Driving home and car had a sudden loss of power randomly while driving. It would not restart until 5-10 minutes later despite multiple start/stop attempts. On the screen it stated to “plug in to condition battery. ” we were in the left lane on a busy road with construction and were almost rear ended multiple times while car was not functional. Have had multiple issues with battery on this 4xe - did recent software update at dealer. I have taken it to dealer previously for battery code (service battery) and they stated they can see code, but unsure of what problem is. No warning lights prior to incident. It sounds like through reviewing on internet this is a common problem with 4xe vehicles and if it hasn’t killed someone yet, it certainly will. We did call 911 for assistance due to the vehicle being disabled in middle of highway, but no official report was made.
The vehicle has an active safety recall related to a potential high-voltage battery fire. The recall warns that the battery pack may contain damaged cells that could lead to a vehicle fire under certain conditions. The manufacturer instructs owners not to recharge the battery and to park the vehicle away from buildings or other vehicles due to the fire risk. The defect puts my family and others at risk because the vehicle cannot be safely charged, cannot be parked near structures, and may pose a spontaneous fire hazard. This significantly limits the ability to drive or store the vehicle normally. The issue was present before I purchased the vehicle, and the recall was active at that time. The problem has been confirmed by the manufacturer’s recall documentation. I have contacted dealerships and the manufacturer, but no remedy appointment or software update has been provided, and a replacement high-voltage battery has not been scheduled. Warning messages and restrictions were communicated through the official recall notice. There have been no repairs performed, and the safety risk remains unresolved.

While driving this vehicle under normal conditions, the engine developed abnormal ticking/knocking noises, loss of power, and misfire symptoms that progressively worsened. The vehicle was frequently used to transport children. Due to the nature of the failure and unpredictability of progression, continued operation posed a serious safety risk. An authorized dealer later confirmed that the engine suffered a catastrophic internal valvetrain failure involving collapsed lifters/rocker arms and severely damaged camshafts. The dealer technician explicitly stated this failure mode is “typical” for this engine design and documented progressive internal damage affecting both cylinder banks, not an isolated component. This failure mode is not sudden; it develops gradually over tens of thousands of miles and can lead to sudden engine power loss, stalling, or seizure without warning. A loss of propulsion at highway speed, during lane changes, intersections, or while transporting children creates a clear risk of crash, injury, or worse. There was no evidence of driver abuse, lack of maintenance, lubrication failure, or misuse. The dealer confirmed oil condition and service history were appropriate. The defect appears to be internal, latent, and manufacturing-related, consistent with numerous consumer complaints, technical service bulletins, and ongoing litigation involving this engine family. Had the vehicle continued to be driven, the failure could have escalated •sudden loss of engine power at speed •inability to accelerate to avoid hazards •engine seizure causing loss of steering assist •increased crash risk with child passengers onboard the vehicle was removed from service due to safety concerns. This defect is repeatable, predictable, and well-documented, yet not subject to recall at this time. I am reporting this to support investigation into a systemic engine defect that presents a serious safety risk to drivers and passengers.

The vehicle in question, has been to a certified Jeep dealer twice, to remedy the problem of locking axles and the center differential. The remedy by crown cdjr in columbus OH, was to replace the control module. Performance cdjr of gorgesville /columbus OH had removed the center differential/transfer case for an inspection and performed updates. None of the aforementioned warranty work, fixed the problem. The vehicle has intermittent, apparent drivetrain differential locking issues, that require an ignition cycle. In addition, the electronic limited slip rear axle appears to lock near 75% in auto and snow mode, which renders the vehicle's operation unsafe. This is especially apparent in 25 to 45 mph turns, sharp turns, as when merging from one intersection to a perpendicular other roadway. The car wants to go straight on slippery/wet pavement. On the 25th of November, a video was taken, by chance, when the vehicle was merging onto easton way from the off ramp of 270 north. The vehicle / car had a near miss of colliding with the concrete barrier of the easton way bridge. The vehicle is, in its current state, unsafe! the drivetrain growls and grinds while driving at low speeds. Performance cdjr of gorgesville columbus OH admitted, on the record , via audio recording, that the vehicle is defective, but eventually, after three weeks in their service department released, the vehicle to my pregnant wife, as operating as intended.

I am submitting this complaint regarding recall 78c (NHTSA recall 25v-766) affecting my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. The recall states that engine block casting contamination may result in catastrophic engine failure, loss of propulsion, and possible engine fire. This recall has now been open for approximately 120 days without a remedy available. Stellantis has confirmed that engineers are still working to develop a repair and that customers will be notified when a remedy becomes available. Since purchasing this vehicle in may 2024, it has been subject to five recalls within approximately 18 months of ownership: recall 78c – NHTSA recall 25v-766 recall 68c – NHTSA recall 25v-741 recall 73c – NHTSA recall 25v-576 recall 28c – NHTSA recall 25v-472 recall d5b – NHTSA recall 24v-944 due to the severity of the defect described in recall 78c and the number of recalls affecting this vehicle, my family has lost confidence in the safety and reliability of the vehicle. My wife is currently unwilling to ride in the vehicle because of the risk described in the recall. With a newborn child arriving next week, this situation has placed significant strain on our household because we are effectively operating with only one vehicle. I am submitting this complaint to document the ongoing safety concern and the extended delay in providing a remedy for this recall.
My vehicle is subject to fca recall #78c / NHTSA recall #25v-766, which identifies engine contamination that may lead to catastrophic engine failure, vehicle fire, or unexpected and unrecoverable loss of propulsion, potentially resulting in a crash without prior warning. The recall is currently listed as incomplete, with the remedy under development and no repair parts available. I contacted stellantis client services to request guidance regarding safe operation of the vehicle while this recall remains unresolved and to inquire about any interim accommodations or support. Stellantis has advised me in writing that no assistance, accommodations, or compensation are available at this time and that I should wait until a remedy becomes available. Given the severity of the risks acknowledged in the recall and the absence of any interim safety guidance or mitigation measures, I am submitting this complaint to document the situation and request review.
Critical recall: NHTSA 25v-766 / fca 78c (no remedy available since November 6, 2025) status: incomplete - remedy under development risk level: catastrophic safety risks: • sand contamination in the engine from a manufacturing defect • catastrophic engine failure • vehicle fire • unexpected and unrecoverable loss of propulsion while driving • vehicle crash without prior warning • risk of occupant injury or death • risk of injury to persons outside the vehicle • property damage current status: 'remedy is under development' - no fix exists. This recall has been open for 82 days (since November 6, 2025) with no estimated timeline for repair parts availability. For nearly three months, fca us has acknowledged that this catastrophic defect exists but has failed to develop or provide any remedy. Recall 78c: "the 2. 0l engine in your vehicle may be contaminated with sand from the casting process. Sand from the casting process can contaminate internal engine components, leading to a catastrophic engine failure, which can result in a vehicle fire or an unexpected and unrecoverable loss of drive power. A vehicle fire can result in increased risk of occupant injury and/or injury to persons outside the vehicle, as well as property damage. A loss of drive power may result in a vehicle crash without prior warning".
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the service shifter warning light illuminated when the gear shifter was shifted to park(p). The failure had become more persistent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the shifter had failed and the shifter, module, knob, gear shifter, and transmission needed to be replaced. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 16v240000 (power train); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle had not been repaired but was scheduled for a repair. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.
Hard shifting car jumps when put in gear I think it’s a known issue with this vehicle.
1. The battery is consistently being drained from an unknown issue, mechanic unsure. In two years it has need 3 batteries. This causes start issues, window closing issues, and the radio screen console issues. 2. The transmission gets stuck in third now needing a new transmission. Was told only a new transmission will fix issue.

Transmission failure at 19,481 miles in my 2021jeep Grand Cherokee limited 4x4 v6. The vehicle has not been abused, and the mileage is low for its age. The symptoms—erratic shifting, limp mode, and “service transmission” warnings— are consistent with a known defect pattern affecting multiple fca vehicles using the same transmission.

Defect in transmission causing a total replacement to be needed. Jeep is aware of issue and is changing the way they’re built but not recalling.
Engine and power train components show failure. Remanufactured 3. 6 l pentastar engine camshaft journals and bearings show circumferential scoring from oil starvation. Rocker arm needle bearings failed shedding debris that clogged oil passages. Technician said root cause is oil pressure retention issue or internal contamination. Not caused by improper oil level but a design defect. Teardown report and photos available.
Year: 2012 make/model: Jeep Grand Cherokee 5. 7 l v8, 4wd mileage: ~140,000 miles date of incident: [insert date] location: mckinney, texas (near u. S. 75 exit) description of the safety issue: while driving normally, the service 4wd system warning illuminated. Seconds later, the lightning-bolt symbol (electronic throttle control) appeared, and the engine stalled abruptly without warning. All power steering and power-brake assist were lost while the transmission was still in drive. The vehicle rolled backward on a slight grade as if in neutral. Attempts to restart the vehicle failed. Even carmax technicians, at whose lot the vehicle came to rest, were unable to start it. A strong hot/burning electrical odor was present immediately after shutdown. This indicates a possible overheating or shorting event in the electrical or fuel-relay system (tipm or throttle-body circuit). Had this failure occurred on u. S. 75 at highway speed (80–85 mph), I would have lost steering assist and braking ability in heavy traffic — a situation that could have led to a severe collision or injury. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this case as a potential recurrence or expansion of the existing recall group. The combination of a sudden stall, complete loss of control systems, no-restart condition, and electrical-burn odor constitutes a serious and ongoing safety defect that endangers vehicle occupants and others on the roadway. Supporting information: – carmax technicians confirmed the vehicle would not restart. – recent maintenance included new fuel pump, injectors, hoses, and cooling-system components (~$10 k). – warning lights: “service 4wd system” and “electronic throttle control (lightning-bolt)” appeared immediately before stall.
On 10/24/2025 my wife and daughter were in the vehicle driving to her school. My wife was on the phone with me when she stated the car was reving really high and sounded like it was going to blow up how loud it was. She was driving at about 25-30 mph when the car suddenly jerked and shut off completely, the battery light turned on and the check engine light flashed before it shut off. She was able to brake and roll to the side of the road. I had instructed her to keep her foot on the break since it was not letting her shift to park. We stayed on the phone as I contacted Jeep directly and get a hold of a rep she said she was able to put it in park and she tried to turn the car on and she was able to turn it on after 10 min. She drove with the hazards on to my daughters school and dropped her off I told her park the car and don't use it until I get home. I got home on 10/26/2025 and the light was off I made an appointment with Jeep for that week 10/31 and they stated they were unable to find anything in the computer for the issue that had occurred instead they saw a issue with my heating and it was pump. I have a case open with Jeep and they have yet to return my call after a week of non stop calling, I emailed stelantis but they stated they cant assist has to be Jeep directly. I would love some help with this as the car has been to the dealership three time for multiple issues and recalls that they stated they did and still show are not done. I have a schduled appointment for the 68c but there is no remedy yet.
10/24 loss of power while driving. Dash indicated vehicle was not on. Tried pushing the ignition button but received the message that vehicle could not start unless it was in park. Accessory power continued allowing me to pull to the side of the road. Fortunately I was not on the freeway but on a residential road. Was able to restart after putting the vehicle in park and drove the few blocks to home. Vehicle was operating in hybrid mode and had 2% left on the battery so it had not switch to ice mode at the time of the incident. Reported the issue to Jeep and they arranged towing to the dealership. Dealer reports no codes and cannot find an issue. Vehicle is still at the dealer as of 11/1. The September recall was done early in October and since then the hybrid warning light has not come on like it did before the software upgrade. Did not experience a loss of power before the recall software was installed.
The car gets started, message pops up saying to safely put the vehicle into park it will shut off soon. It then starts shaking, will not allow you to shift gears, revs up still shaking, it then shuts off and all of the dash panels messages are popping up, abs, a message to service the air suspension, engine light, car not in park (can't shift it) (we have put tire chucks to hopefully keep it from moving), etc are flashing as well as the interior lights, exterior lights flashing. The only way to get all of the lights to stop flashing is to unhook the brand new auxiliary battery. Mechanic has scanned for codes, more than 60 appear. Once we are able to reattach the battery, we were able to start it, put it into gear before all of the messages and lights started going off again.

On 10/19/2025, my 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe experienced a serious electrical malfunction. When I attempted to start the vehicle, it became stuck in run mode and would not shift into drive. The vehicle also would not shut off — even after pressing the start/stop button multiple times. The hybrid system remained active, and the dashboard stayed illuminated. The only way to power the vehicle down was to disconnect the 12-volt battery manually. This created a significant safety concern, as the vehicle could have remained running unattended or in an enclosed space. Afterward, the check engine light came on. The dealership later stated they “just reset the ecm,” but no explanation was provided for why the vehicle failed to shut off or shift out of park. This incident indicates a possible defect in the electrical, powertrain, or propulsion control system. It poses a safety risk to occupants and anyone nearby if the issue reoccurs.
While driving, my car stopped and on the dashboard was a message that said shift to p. This happened 2x in a week.
Vehicle had recall done for “loss of propulsion” and module replaced. Had vehicle back for 2 days and while driving 55mph, it shut itself off abruptly. Had to find an emergency place to coast to. The display says “service charging system”.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving out of the driveway, the transmission unexpectedly shifted into neutral. The shift to park message was displayed on the screen. The shifter became stuck and failed to shift to park(p). The vehicle was restarted. While driving 55 mph, the message “shift to park" was displayed. The "vehicle was at too high a speed" message was displayed. The vehicle failed to shift into park. The vehicle failed to move. The drive warning light was flashing, accompanied by an abnormal dinging sound. Upon further research, the contact was able to link the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 25v011000 (power train). The contact called the local dealer, who confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
Subject: safety defect report – failure of telematics module (tcu) causing loss of 9-1-1 emergency function, electrical system malfunctions, and potential brake booster recall defect (2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee) dear NHTSA, I am submitting this complaint because my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited is experiencing multiple safety-related failures that I believe are part of a wider defect pattern affecting this model year. Several of these issues involve systems that are critical for emergency safety, braking, and vehicle control. Dear NHTSA, I am submitting this complaint because my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited is experiencing multiple safety-related failures that I believe are part of a wider defect pattern affecting this model year. Several of these issues involve systems that are critical for emergency safety, braking, and vehicle control. ? 1. Telematics control unit (tcu) failure causing loss of 9-1-1/sos emergency function my Jeep is displaying repeated “service emergency vehicle phone” errors and the sos/911 emergency button no longer functions. This is a major safety concern, especially in the event of an accident or breakdown. The tcu failure also causes: •uconnect 8. 4 system not booting •hvac controls becoming non-functional or unsafe (blowing incorrect temperatures, failing to defrost, turning off unexpectedly) •random system resets •loss of ability to control climate during driving (creating visibility issues in cold/wet weather) these issues align with widespread failures of the uconnect 8. 4 / tcu hardware on 2013–2015 Grand Cherokees, which were not included in a recall despite many vehicles exhibiting the same dangerous symptoms. ? 2. Tcu-related canbus interference causing transmission and drivability safety issues when the tcu fails, the vehicle experiences: •transmission communication errors •vehicle entering limp mode unexpectedly •“service transmission” and “press brake to shift” warnings •delayed or unpredictable shi.

I was taking my daughter to school and we were stopped at a light when the check engine light came on. When the light turned green and I pressed the gas the vehicle didn’t seem to respond at all and I rolled my car at the right turn and parked it. I turned it off and back on and it was still doing the same thing. I had someone pick up my daughter and take her to school. I started scheduling a tow but after it sat for a while it was able to drive to a shop for inspection where they tested it and received the error code: p076f = gear 7 incorrect ratio. I was told the entire engine needs to be replaced. The vehicle has low mileage. Our safety was at risk because I had no warning to get the car to the shop before a major malfunction. I was very fortunate my car was stopped at the time. If I was waiting at a left turn in an intersection we could have had a terrible collision. The exact problem has not been reproduced. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer.
When driving the vehicle, it appears to shift roughly and at times, it seems that there is no power to the vehicle.

My vehicle is losing power every randomly literally cutting off and on. Flashing lights won’t start at time , next day drives completely fine. I do not understand.
The monostable shifter malfunctions constantly. Safety-related concerns include it not staying in park when parked, rolling has occurred; not being able to start due to it not actually being in park; it will switch gear while driving and vehicle will go into limp mode and shut off within seconds, then will not be able to restart. I cannot count on it starting or getting me anywhere safely and have towed multiple times now. The problem has unfortunately not been reproduced or realized by local dealership even with ‘service shifter’, ‘until you reach a desired location you may not be able to shift again no bus’, and engine light warning lights appearing when driven. It has been taken twice to john hiester Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of sanford. (nc). I have spoken with Jeep customer care to no avail and the answer is take to a certified dealership but that option is proving to not be successful. I purchased in February 2025 but became disabled right after and haven’t realized it’s very major issues. Not being able to use my vehicle is quite isolating [xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
On September 10th, 2025, at approximately 7:45am, I was driving my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe at 57 mph on the freeway during heavy traffic. The “service hybrid electrical system” warning appeared, and the vehicle immediately stalled and forced itself into emergency park while in motion. This sudden failure created a severe safety hazard for myself and surrounding drivers. I experienced an anxiety attack from the incident and had to call my husband for help. This is not the first time the vehicle has stalled, but it is the most dangerous occurrence to date. This vehicle is unsafe and poses a life-threatening risk on public roads.
