Subject: safety defect report – failure of telematics module (tcu) causing loss of 9-1-1 emergency function, electrical system malfunctions, and potential brake booster recall defect (2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee) dear NHTSA, I am submitting this complaint because my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited is experiencing multiple safety-related failures that I believe are part of a wider defect pattern affecting this model year. Several of these issues involve systems that are critical for emergency safety, braking, and vehicle control. Dear NHTSA, I am submitting this complaint because my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited is experiencing multiple safety-related failures that I believe are part of a wider defect pattern affecting this model year. Several of these issues involve systems that are critical for emergency safety, braking, and vehicle control. ? 1. Telematics control unit (tcu) failure causing loss of 9-1-1/sos emergency function my Jeep is displaying repeated “service emergency vehicle phone” errors and the sos/911 emergency button no longer functions. This is a major safety concern, especially in the event of an accident or breakdown. The tcu failure also causes: •uconnect 8. 4 system not booting •hvac controls becoming non-functional or unsafe (blowing incorrect temperatures, failing to defrost, turning off unexpectedly) •random system resets •loss of ability to control climate during driving (creating visibility issues in cold/wet weather) these issues align with widespread failures of the uconnect 8. 4 / tcu hardware on 2013–2015 Grand Cherokees, which were not included in a recall despite many vehicles exhibiting the same dangerous symptoms. ? 2. Tcu-related canbus interference causing transmission and drivability safety issues when the tcu fails, the vehicle experiences: •transmission communication errors •vehicle entering limp mode unexpectedly •“service transmission” and “press brake to shift” warnings •delayed or unpredictable shi.

I was taking my daughter to school and we were stopped at a light when the check engine light came on. When the light turned green and I pressed the gas the vehicle didn’t seem to respond at all and I rolled my car at the right turn and parked it. I turned it off and back on and it was still doing the same thing. I had someone pick up my daughter and take her to school. I started scheduling a tow but after it sat for a while it was able to drive to a shop for inspection where they tested it and received the error code: p076f = gear 7 incorrect ratio. I was told the entire engine needs to be replaced. The vehicle has low mileage. Our safety was at risk because I had no warning to get the car to the shop before a major malfunction. I was very fortunate my car was stopped at the time. If I was waiting at a left turn in an intersection we could have had a terrible collision. The exact problem has not been reproduced. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer.
When driving the vehicle, it appears to shift roughly and at times, it seems that there is no power to the vehicle.

The monostable shifter malfunctions constantly. Safety-related concerns include it not staying in park when parked, rolling has occurred; not being able to start due to it not actually being in park; it will switch gear while driving and vehicle will go into limp mode and shut off within seconds, then will not be able to restart. I cannot count on it starting or getting me anywhere safely and have towed multiple times now. The problem has unfortunately not been reproduced or realized by local dealership even with ‘service shifter’, ‘until you reach a desired location you may not be able to shift again no bus’, and engine light warning lights appearing when driven. It has been taken twice to john hiester Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram of sanford. (nc). I have spoken with Jeep customer care to no avail and the answer is take to a certified dealership but that option is proving to not be successful. I purchased in February 2025 but became disabled right after and haven’t realized it’s very major issues. Not being able to use my vehicle is quite isolating [xxx]. On September 10th, 2025, at approximately 7:45am, I was driving my 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe at 57 mph on the freeway during heavy traffic. The “service hybrid electrical system” warning appeared, and the vehicle immediately stalled and forced itself into emergency park while in motion. This sudden failure created a severe safety hazard for myself and surrounding drivers. I experienced an anxiety attack from the incident and had to call my husband for help. This is not the first time the vehicle has stalled, but it is the most dangerous occurrence to date. This vehicle is unsafe and poses a life-threatening risk on public roads.

I am reporting a serious safety issue involving my 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee hybrid. The vehicle has experienced repeated stalling and loss of propulsion while driving, including in active traffic and in a school pickup line. The vehicle has unexpectedly failed to accelerate or start, creating dangerous situations for myself, my passengers, and surrounding vehicles. The vehicle has stalled in traffic and at low speeds without warning. On multiple occasions, it lost propulsion while driving, requiring me to stop unexpectedly. One incident occurred in a school pickup line, causing traffic disruption and creating a safety risk with children present. In addition, the vehicle is subject to a high-voltage battery safety recall due to fire risk. I have been advised that the vehicle is unsafe to park in a garage, and I am concerned about the risk of fire. At this time, there is no permanent repair available for the recall. Despite reporting these issues and seeking service, the safety defects remain unresolved. The combination of stalling, loss of propulsion, and fire risk makes the vehicle unsafe to operate and unsafe to park. I am requesting that NHTSA review this matter as a safety defect involving loss of power, stalling, and fire risk.

Vehicle will all suddenly while driving on the roads with speed, dash will blink and start saying to select the gear. At this point vehicle either has to be put in parking (while trying to figure out where to pull over) and reselect the gear, or completely shut off, re start and select gear in order to drive. When the dash blinks vehicle accelerator just revs the engine, loss of power occurs. This especially happens after a fuel up and you move away from gas station.

The ptu (transfer case) is not working. It started as more of a transmission issue. I would be driving at times and my transmission would not shift up. I had to manually shift my car to get it into gear. Now, it lead to knocking noises when I turn my steering wheel.
I believe it is something with the engine or an electrical component. I was driving and as I was parking my car shut off, was not able to completely park back end of the car is sticking out. I looked up if there were any current recalls using my VIN and nothing appeared. I did my own researching and found that there have been recalls for that model regarding the ptu, power steering and power loss which is the issue I am experiencing. My car turns off on its own and does not get any type of power. Started having trouble turning on my car over labor day weekend was not able to travel due to what I thought was my battery having issues, people were jumping me to be able to start my car. I then had my battery tested at o'reilly's on 9/3/2025 and when trying to jump start my car they shorted my engine block fuse which I was told after having my car towed to the mechanic and they took a look at it. I replaced my main battery thinking that would solve the issue and it did not and this was before the mechanic looked at it. I then had it towed to a mechanic where they replaced the engine block fuse and I was told that the car was good and running after paying on 9/19/2025. I left the mechanic and came to work where after two hours I tried to start my car and it did not. I called the mechanic and was told it was my auxiliary battery after they came to look at the car and inspect it once again that same day 9/19/2025. I purchased and replaced the auxiliary battery and was able to start and drive the car for 1. 6 miles to my brothers apartment from my work before the car turned off on me as I was trying to park. There was an error message on the car at the time when it turned off which read with a caution symbol, "stop safely vehicle will shut off soon" and then turned off.

Lost power temporarily traveling on highway. Recall exists but mopar says they have no fix but aren't providing owners with alternative transportation or offering to take the vehicle back. If this issue is significant enough to warrant a recall and stop sale then the vehicles should not be on the road.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle jerked, and the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. In addition, the contact stated there was an abnormal sound coming from the power train. The message "transmission overheated" was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle lost powertrain upon accelaration. Merging onto a freeway and accelerating my vehicle was as if it was in neutral. Same with starting out at a stop sign, coming to a turn lane and accerlerating to cross traffic, no powertrain. . . Just neutral. This issue was also reported by my mechanic when I brought it in as he test drove it. He contacted the local dealership and they inspected as well. Both came to the same conclusion as to what the issue was. The dealership mentioned having repaired over 30 vehicles with the same issue outside of warranty. This issue is very intermittent, which makes it even more dangerous and harder to diagnose until it starts to happen more often as my vehicle put on more miles. No warning lights or messages of failure. I was almost hit broadside at an intersection and nearly rearended on the interstate at 65 mph. My life was seriously in jeopardy as I panic stricken to get power entering the interstate with my vehicle basically in neutral. I had to pull over and shift to park and then to drive again. According the local dealership and many forums, Jeep is aware of this issue and has had no recall since the majority are out of warranty by the time they are diagnosed. I am beyond frustrated at the sheer danger this has. I am lucky I didn't get hit, someone else may not be. This should have been a recall before the warranty expired. I am now out thousands of dollars on repair and looking for resolution.
Backing into a parking space in reverse the vehicle all of a sudden begins to accelerate forward with the gear selector showing "r" illuminated almost causing me to hit 2 cars parked in front of me. After putting the vehicle in park and reverse again I was able to park and then the vehicle gave a "service hybrid system" warning and then stalled out. I had no issues prior to this and it seems the 95b recall had something to do with it as I had this performed a week prior. It has a stored code for " digital input crash " according to the dealer but they said it is deemed safe to drive. I don't think so.
Driving and engine shut off in the middle of the road. Vehicle indicated “service hybrid system. ” was able to restart vehicle after a few minutes.
The contact owns a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving 45-50 mph, the “service 4wd” message was displayed and flashing on and off. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the transfer case needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 116,387.
The car will cut off and loose power due to the battery issue it has been in the shop 5 or 6 times for this issue and some of the stays were over 30 days at a time they said they have no fix for the repair needed not to drive it but no one can make payments on a car and not drive it for months waiting on a repair. They refused to buy the car back or replace it with a new one.
My 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe began with an intense burning smell followed by the “service hybrid electric vehicle” warning light illuminating. After this, the vehicle experienced numerous electrical issues with the infotainment system, and the air conditioning failed. At one point, both the service and battery lights came on and the car lost all power, would not shift from park, and could not move. The service light continued to illuminate a total of eight times. During the seventh and eighth occurrences, the vehicle became unsafe: once while stopped, the electric and motor systems appeared to fight for power, and the next time while traveling around 55 mph, the car suddenly lost power and rapidly decelerated, creating a serious risk of a rear-end collision. This problem has been reproduced by the dealership, who attempted to replace the module control module without success. Dealership and myself contacted the manufacturer and were told there is currently no fix and to “hang tight” until one is available. Due to the severity and ongoing nature of the issue, I have also filed a claim with ncds USA for further support.
Subject: safety complaint – 2022 Jeep grand wagoneer – multiple safety-critical failures and warranty concerns. I am the owner of a 2022 Jeep grand wagoneer (purchase price $114,000 usd), well maintained and currently with 41,000 miles. Despite careful use, it has developed multiple recurring electrical and mechanical failures that present serious safety risks: •parking and side sensors fail, making obstacle and blind-spot detection unreliable. •rear-view camera often shows a solid blue screen in reverse, leaving no rear visibility. •main display flickers, freezes, or shuts off; infotainment reboots while driving, disabling controls. •entire electronic system resets mid-drive, affecting safety features. •power liftgate fails to open. •air suspension changes height on its own, affecting handling and stability. While the basic 36,000-mile warranty has expired, the vehicle still has a 60,000-mile powertrain warranty. Many of these failures involve safety-critical systems that should be addressed without cost to the owner. I recently brought the vehicle to an authorized Jeep dealer, who charged $1,399 usd just for diagnostics instead of addressing them under warranty or goodwill. These issues are widely reported by other 2022 grand wagoneer owners, suggesting systemic defects. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate promptly, require Jeep/stellantis to issue recalls where necessary, provide a permanent fix, and ensure dealers address safety-related defects regardless of basic warranty expiration.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the vehicle jerked, and the transmission unexpectedly shifted into neutral. An unknown warning light flashed on the instrument panel. In addition, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The contact waited for a few minutes. The vehicle restarted and the vehicle functioned as intended. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. However, no cause for the failure was found. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. Upon investigation, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 19v447000 (power train). However, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure recurred, and the vehicle was parked and no longer driven due to safety concerns. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the esc and “service 4wd” warning lights illuminated, causing the vehicle to shake abnormally. Additionally, the transmission unexpectedly shifted to 4wd low while driving. The steering wheel vibrated while making a turn, and the vehicle jerked. The vehicle also intermittently failed to start immediately and made a clicking sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that the abs had failed, and that the drive train control module and transfer case control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.
Rattling noise when accelerating after a gear change. Dealership replaced transmission and it’s still there. Found a video online of the exact same issue and it turned out to be the ptu (power transfer unit) that needs to be replaced.
The vehicle losses propulsion. The ev battery drains rapidly. Electronics and hazards will not turn off at times. The head unit screen and user interface is unstable and in consist. Instrument cluster provides has had previous failures.
Just purchased a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee high altitude from stuteville Ford dealership in ponca city oklahoma and they stated the vehicle was fixed, later after block test found out it has a bad headgasket.
While driving on the freeway, the vehicle suddenly lost all power and control. The “service hybrid system” warning began flashing, and I experienced a complete powertrain failure. As the vehicle coasted down to under 5 mph, it abruptly slammed into the electronic parking brake and came to a hard stop. This created a serious safety hazard not only for me but for other drivers on the road. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealership, where it required a jump-start to regain power. The dealer has been unable to replicate the issue, and no diagnostic trouble codes were found during their scan. Despite this, the failure was severe and unpredictable. There were no warning lights or symptoms prior to the event. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and available for inspection.
Car slips into neutral while on highway. Car continues to go from drive to neutral. Mechanic states new transmission necessary. Contacted Chrysler Jeep dealer they stated all recalls complete not their problem.
Transmission is failing due to recall. Car won’t go into park or reverse. Problem has been confirmed by dealer. Lights appeared saying unable to go into gear need to park to shift to gears. Which isn’t an option. Car unsafe as it won’t go into park causing potential rollaway and no longer reverse. Unable to shut car off due to not being able to go into park. Recall no answers for, and transmissions aren’t available.
