Also, blower motor controller located by the blower starts burning smell!! when it auto the control board failed and then blower quit. The motor must be replaced along with a wiring harness repair kit!!!! please tell me why no recall on this. It is such an issue the parts needed were on back order!!.

3 Underhood Wiring problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee was damaged by a fire due to the safety recall f17. The consumer stated the day he picked the vehicle up, the seats were still not functioning properly due to the fire damage to the wiring and module. The drivers seat was not reassembled correctly and the lumbar support hit the consumer in the center of his back. After a close examination at a local repair shop, the consumer was told there was no evidence the passenger seat recall was ever addressed. The following morning, the battery was dead, the parking and signal lights continued to burn out and periodically the dash lights and power windows did not work. It was determined that both seats had additional fires and internal heat damage.

I returned home from a 1 mile drive to pick up my daughter. We went upstairs to our second floor apartment. About 10 minutes later I heard the alarm to our 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee going off. I went outside to shut it off, and found the whole engine up in flames. My husband tried to put it out with a fire extinguisher, but it was too late. By the time the fire dept. Got there it was a total loss.

7 Underhood Wiring problem of the 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/14/2006

Tie rods, wheel bearings, ball joints, fan clutch, shorted engine compartment wiring harness, fuel pump assembly all gone wrong from time of purchase; January 2000/brand new to sept. 2006. . . Some pd. Under warranty others after 2004 not; even though the defects usually do not happen to a Jeep Grand Cherokee/fully loaded. The last straw was the ball joints; we asked if some form of recall should of been done and then asked for a reimbursement because my wife's' 2004 Jeep liberty limited had a recall on it's ball joints/lower ones so after having mine replaced last Friday 9/15/2006 we asked about the Grand Cherokee and it's ball joints; we also updated on all the defects we've had to correct and wondered if it wasn't a expensive lemon. . . $35,000. 00 is what I paid. We called Chrysler main customer service and was only told were sorry, the age of the Jeep and past warranty. . . What does that have to do with all the past defects since 2000 and the fact we tried their customer service in 2002 and got no where again. No matter the age of the vehicle. . . Safety is safety. And if ball joints go bad for no reason and have to be replaced then, it should go as a safety concern for all their vehicles.

8 Underhood Wiring problem of the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/07/2005

My wife was driving the Jeep one day when the air conditioner stopped working. After further adjusting the system, she concluded something must be wrong with the fan, as the heat would not work either. When I took it to oak hill automotive, it turned out that the blower module had melted; when the blower module melted, it also destroyed the control harness. The technician at oak hill automotive commented that if he had fixed one of these, he had fixed a hundred. Also, the control harness was expected to be a custom part, but it was in stock. The cause for the melting is unknown, though the repair shop speculated there might be a short in the system.

While driving at 30mph the Jeep cut off, sounded like it was out of gas the tank was over half full. After trying to crank it I noticed smoke coming from under the hood at the windshield area. I opened the hood and flames shot out. I closed the hood and 2 cars behind me was a police, he care the fire department and they were there within 5 min. 18 Underhood Wiring problem of the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/26/1999

All of the problems identified in my complaints are covered by Chrysler extended warranty. But I strongly feel Jeep is building an inferior and unsafe product which can cause serious accidents. The most notables were the (2) auto transmissions failure at freeway speed. The transmissions had to be replaced and the replacement unit was installed with a defective pump which also went out. The most recent incident is with the engine and all electrical system shuts off at freeway speed with no warning. The explaination given was a weak battery and loose battery cable. All other incidents are due to sub-standard Jeep oem parts. I wish my complaint will force Jeep to investigate why a Jeep Grand Cherokee 5. 9 limited, their flagship, would failed time after time at such a young mileage. Thank you.

19 Underhood Wiring problem of the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/20/1998

Front differential initially rebuilt by dealer, at same time rear differential was replaced. . Subsequently front differential failed and was replaced in total, including axle housing. While traveling 200 miles from home at 65 mph in passing zone car "died" losing all power. Able to make breakdown lane through traffic, waited 1. 5 hrs. For chrylser provided tow to nearest dealer. Closed at 8:45 p. M. On Friday. Tow truck took us to hotel and returned our disabled car to dealership. They were only open for sales on Saturday, so we needed to rent a car to get to relatives house for sat. Night till someone from home could come up and tow our disabled car back to NY on Sunday, where it was left at local dealer. Dealer said coil wire was routed to close to exhaust manifold causing it to overheat and short to manifold, causing loss of power.

20 Underhood Wiring problem of the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

21 Underhood Wiring problem of the 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/14/1998

The vehicle was purchased on 3/6/98. I began experiencing electrical failure on 3/14/98. The vehicle was returned for non-operative horn and electrical shock on 3/20/98 to benke Chrysler-Plymouth Jeep eagle. The technician worked on the vehicle for 1 1/2 hours but was unable to find the problem. I was advised to bring the vehicle back or take it to another service center closer to me. I took the vehicle to nolf Chrysler Dodge inc. On 3/30/98. The technician advised both horns to be faulty with internal shorts. The horns were ordered and replaced a week later. I continued to have severe shocks which I was advised by Jeep dealers were static discharge. On December 15th I was awoke by the constant sound of the horn blowing on my vehicle. The police arrived a short time later. I disconnected the battery to stop the horn from blowing and then contacted benke Chrysler-Plymouth Jeep. I was advised to disconnect the horn relay. The vehicle was then driven to gibsonia (without a horn, once again). The technician worked on the vehicle for 2 hours and I was advised the horn relay was defective. I was awaken again at 11pm by the sound of horn going off at my home and once again the police arrived. There seems to be no known cause to date for this defect. The horn blows for no apparent reason while setting idle and does not shut off till horn relay is pulled or battery is disconnected.
