: the contact stated while approaching a traffic light at 25 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle restarted, the automatic transmission was placed into drive, but the vehicle would not move. The vehicle was shut off and turned back on 4 times, before it was able to move. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who could not duplicate the problem after performing a diagnostic test. The dealer informed the contact that all 4 tires were worn down unevenly and there were pieces of metal showing on the insides of the tires. Also, it was determined that the brakes and rear rotors were worn, and needed to be replaced, along with all 4 tires. A NHTSA recall letter, #06v288000 on the vehicle, regarding the suspension: front: control arm: lower ball joint was received. The parts needed to repair the vehicle were not available at the local dealership. The manufacturer confirmed the parts were not available. The contact was placed on a waitlist. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop who suggested that the recall work should be performed prior to getting all the other components replaced.

1. Random event, vehicle start after overnight rest (min 8 hrs), cold start driveway. Not affected by ambient temp or season. This has occurred since vehicle was purchased new and randomly happens once per week on the average. 2. Vehicle started, either backed from garage or parking lot driveway , placed in drive and drive away initiated until stopped at intersection. Transmission locks up and stalls engine at /or in intersection. Since this is random , work around safety measures cannot be predicted to provide safe entry into intersection, hence sometimes we are in the middle of an intersection with a stalled engine. 3. Vehicle has been to delivered to dealership purchased from . There has been 4 visits/attempts to repair with no avail. Meeting with dealership resulted in dealership explaining they don't know what to do, nor does the Jeep tech rep "john stick rod", and they have no solutions from Jeep auburn hills service organization since they claim this is not a problem to their knowledge. We have submitted other internet acknowledgements of this problem to the dealership in order to educate them of the availability of this common problem on Jeep Liberty crd diesel models.

: the contact stated the vehicle intermittently stalled without warning while driving various speeds. The check engine light illuminated and the vehicle operated at a reduced speed. The dealer and manufacturer were alerted. A factory representative inspected the vehicle and was unable duplicate the problem. The dealer suspected the combination of the diesel engine and the automatic transmission were the root of the problem. The vehicle is currently awaiting further inspection by the dealer.
My Jeep Liberty recall e14 has not been fixed. We have time numerous times to schedule the vehicle for the dealership to fix. However, they never have the part for the "transmission cup plug bracket". I even took a day off of work to bring the Jeep to the dealership so they can tell me they ran out of parts. This is frustrating due to the fact that the dealer store is being negligent.
Recall e14 transmission cup plug bracket.
I have been experiencing unusual drive line vibrations (24-26 mph). The dealerships service manager has acknowledged the presents of this issue although indicated that this is normal and hey cannot do anything for me, therefore refusing to do anything about it. I have driven several vehicles of exact year and type and I did not note the same condition. Other than being an annoyance especially for a new vehicle, its my concern that this may indicate a pending drive line failure that would present a safety concern for my family.
: the contact stated intermittently, while pulling in or out of the driveway, the vehicle will not respond. If the vehicle is in drive it must be put in reverse then drive to move and vice versa. Also, the lights, interior and exterior, flicker on and off. The dealership replaced the multifunction switch and upgraded the software. This has not remedied the problem. There are no codes on the computer or black box and the dealership cannot duplicate either problem. When the vehicle was in revese it did move and then stopped. The consumer stated it felt as though the vehicle was in neutral. Updated 02/21/06.
Jeep announced a recall on 2005 Jeep Liberty's, recall #05v460000. The vehicle is being driven by my daughter who is a student at john's hopkins in baltimore. Due to her work load, I flew from novi to baltimore MD, to have the recall service completed and an appoint ment made on 12/9 when the notice was received. I arrived at the dealer , antwerpen and the time assigned and after hour I am informed that the part is not available. I politely asked that when my daughter returns the car to be repaired the next time that they provide her with transportation, since we made an appointment and I flew out to get it done. Granted I was there to help her with other issues, but this was the main reason for the trip. They informed me that this was not possible. I the contacted daimler Chrysler (case number 14424386). They called me back several hours later to tell me that they support the decision of the antwerpen Jeep in baltimore and will not provide transportation. I understand that recalls happen, but my issue is that if I take time to make an appointment, and then they can not perform the service on a safety recall, daimler Chrysler or antwerpen has to assume the liability of providing my daughter transportation while the vehicle is returned for second time.
: the contact stated while driving 15 mph, the vehicle had difficulties accelerating. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer, who determined it was a transmission problem. The contact attempted to get assistance from the service dealer several times, but the parts were unavailable.
Vehicle was purchased new. Mileage as of this date, 11/13/2005, is 50,035. At some point between 45k and 50k miles noticed a clunk which can be felt and heard when vehicle is moving forward and downshifting to low gear. Took vehicle to Lincoln trail Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge in marshall, IL. Mechanic who test drove vehicle admitted hearing and feeling hard downshift. Service manager, nick corey, recommended transmission flush. Also said problem could be caused by a sensor going bad. Checked transmission computer for codes, none found. Transmission flush did not alleviate problem. Will return to dealer for further service. I feel daimler/Chrysler should resolve and repair this problem before failure of the component(s) cause a crash and before the power train warranty expires. As noted from other complaints on this website, the problem has been experienced by numerous other Jeep Liberty owners of 2002, 2003 and 2004 models. At this point daimler/Chrysler should be aware of the problem and solution.

Automatic transmission would remain locked as vehicle came to stop, similar to a manual transmission if you did not depress the clutch. This would cause the vehicle to continue moving forward until the engine stalled. It is important to note that this vehicle has a diesel engine and it doesn't go down without a fight!.
Constant problems with shifting, acceloration, transmission issues, a/c alternator etc.
1. Transmission downshifts hard when decelerating to a stop 2. Steering gear replaced 3. After item 2 , left (driver) side front lower ball joint broke.

Same complaints from 1/7/03 ball joints replaced on recall on 1/10/03 still had pulling to right problems, shaking,. Weather stripping all fell off on interior of car, acts like wheels are binding. 3/4/03 same complaints pulling to right, stops dead in its track, hard to control, wheels bind, dealer could not duplicate complaints (did not write up work order) 3/27/03 dealer installed interior weather stripping, same complaints as 1/10/03,3/4/03. Again on 6/2/03 took Jeep Liberty to dealer took a test drive could not verify complaints. Did not write up a work order. 1/16/04 Jeep Liberty hard to start, pulls to right, Jeep shakes & vibrates hard to control, seat belts do not work, seat rippling, car stops dead it its tracks, dealer fixed lower ball joints again on 2/13/04 at 23,850 miles. 2-13-04 picked up car from dealer still had same problems" dealer stated " this is how Jeeps drive" they are nuts! 11-04 dealer took test drive was still having problems claimed everything okay. Did not right up a work order. 5/27/05 had massive problems brakes would go to the floor, sometime would work and other time not. Took to nearest brake place pads, okay, but wheel cylinder leaked. Claim it could be a intermittent failure of master cylinder, called dealer ship no part available. 7/5/05 took to dealer again with same problems,r they had not even looked at it. Removed Jeep and took to private auto placed,ut with intermittent problems you could replace most of the parts on the car & you may not cure the problems.
The contact complained about several problems. The first problem occurred when slowing down to 50 mph, the vehicle jerked. The second problem involved the egr valve which was replaced. The third problem concerned the check engine light illuminating. There was a popping noise in the rear end when reversing. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer, and an oil leak was discovered coming from the return line on the turbo. No repairs have been made. Updated 01/04/06.
2002 Jeep Liberty limited 4wd automatic transmission, loss of third gear due to breakage of valve body bolts in transmission accessible by removal of transmission pan. Shop foreman at hertich Jeep/Nissan (dover, DE) stated that the bolts were not of the correct strength, and that the new bolts supplied with the new valve body (still under warrantee) would be of the correct strength.
2003 Liberty gear was in park made a loud roaring noise and accelerated. When the vehicle suddenly went out of control, it crashed into a brick wall of a building.
: the contact stated after parking the vehicle, with the engine running, the driver walked 15 feet away, and then the vehicle began to roll backward down a hill into a pond. The vehicle gained speed while rolling down the hill and the doors automatically locked. The contact's infant was still inside the vehicle when it rolled into the water. Both the contact and the father-in-law swam 40 feet from shore to the vehicle and retrieved the baby. Once the child was out of the vehicle, the contact began to swim to shore, the baby and contact made it safely to shore. The father-in-law had a heart attack in the water and passed away on the scene. The police department responded and a report was taken. The contact and baby were admitted to intensive care. The vehicle was towed to the dealership, where both the dealership and manufacturer representatives were unable to determine the problem. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop, where it was determined the same problem existed that was addressed in NHTSA recall #05v460000 on the automatic transmission.
While driving, the vehicle felt as if it was in neutral. Upon getting up to 25 miles per hour, the consumer stated when she placed the vehicle in second gear she was able to go a little faster. The vehicle has 32000 miles on it. Consumer contacted the dealer and the manufacturer however, they are not willing to help. Please provide any further information. . . . .
At approximately 25,000 miles my 2003 Jeep Liberty renegade's transmission went. I took it too a dealer and they rebuilt it instead of replacing it, I have had nothing but problems and took it back continuous times for them too take care of the problem and they said too just keep doing figure 8's with it too get the fluids to run through properly!! so this obviously didn't work, dah!! and they kept putting me off until they finally said, OH it's been too long now and we can't do anything about it! this company is now out of business and the tranny has not gotten better in fact gotten worse!! it was a default transmission obviously and I'm still having serious issues with it. Is there anything that can be justified for me????.
Vehicle lost power when driving at 40 mph. Although the vehicle was in gear it began to coast because the engine was not getting any power. Consumertook the vehicle to the dealer and contacted the manufacturer. Dealer contacted an engineer, who test drove the vehicle 10 miles but the problem could not be duplicated. The consumer also indicated that the vehicle does not operate in 4wd high in reverse.
Shortly after purchasing my Jeep Liberty 4x4 with 6 cyl. Engine and 4-speed automatic transmission new, it would occasionally exhibit an abrupt thunk when downshifting into first gear as in coming to a stop. The local Jeep dealer said it was common to the vehicle and a "quirk. " it continued to do this off and on until I reached approximately 43,000 miles at which time the condition worsened. Now, it will also display a loud thunk and jerk in the rear feeling as if you have been hit from behind when starting to move forward from a stop in 1st gear. I know I was not hit as there was no one behind me one time and I pulled over to check on a second time to be sure there was no evidence of being hit. This happens approximately 2 times per week, depending on how often the vehicle is driven. The feeling is very alarming. I called one Jeep dealer who said there was nothing they could do unless they can reproduce the symptom or if a warning light was on to read the error codes (no warning light has ever gone on). The second dealer said they would look at it for $100, but could not guarantee anything.
First of all, I only have 39,100 miles on my Jeep Liberty. Having said that, on the date listed below it was found that my Jeep had a faulty valve spring in the 2nd cylinder. Cost me quite a bit of money to repair. How in the world does this happen to a brand new car with only a little over 39,000 miles on it? sound like faulty parts to me.
While driving at any speed, the automatic transmission did not shift properly from first to second gear. The dealership inspected the vehicle several times and could not duplicate or correct the problem. The consumer experienced a slippage in the first few hundred miles. There were missing and loose bolts around the transmission. The vehicle displayed a hard knock at times and was poor on gas mileage.
When putting the vehicle into gear it jammed. Consumer kept depressing the brakes to get vehicle into gear. The floater and the shift screw were loose, per dealer mechanic. Consumer maintained that it was unsafe to drive vehicle.
Hard downshifting of transmission, shifts to hard.
Vehicle continuously surged forward. Consumer had to apply both feet to the brakes in order to stop the vehicle. The dealer was not able to duplicate the problem. The consumer stated that the dealership found the problem in the transmission computer.
Transmission downshifts hard when decelerating to a stop. A loud bang is heard and a harsh jolt is felt from the rear of the vehicle as it comes to a stop. No damage is visible under the vehicle and vehicle drives normal most of the time. This is a very intermittent problem. Dealer (mack massey of el paso) could not replicate, but stated he (service manager) knows of the issue and called it "a characteristic" of the Jeep Liberty. This has been a problem since purchase, April 2004. Incident occurs at least 10-15 times per week.
Transmission downshifts hard when decelertaing to a stop. Aharsh jolt is felt from the rear of the vehicle as it comes to a stop. Vehicle drives normal most of the time. And this is a very intermittent problem. Chrysler technician at ( potamkin Chrysler in miami) could not duplicate the problem mentioned. A copilot is being installed to record the transmisson problem. This Jeep was purchased brand new in June of 2004 and has been a problem since. Vehicle only has 2,000 miles.
While releasing the brake in an incline, the vehicle rolled back. The driver applied the accelerator pedal to move the vehicle forward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic can not duplicate the problem. Please provide further details.
When driving down the highway, the transmission would occasionally surge, even with the cruise on. On June 19 the transmission would shift from first to second properly, then when it shifted from second to third, it would act like it was in neutral. Dealer says with 69000 miles on a 2002, it is not covered under warraty. Vehicle has never been taken off road (like designed) and not overworked.
While driving at any speed automatic transmission shifted from any gear to neutral. Dealer on different occasions replaced the computer, and automatic transmission. But problem still persists.
While in drive on an incline vehicle will roll back and need to apply brakes to hold position! dealer has looked at transmission and found nothing wrong.
