3 Engine Stall problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/23/2015

On July 23, 2015, while driving on the interstate highway, at approximately 55 miles/hour, the odometer, speedometer and cruise control simultaneously stopped working for no apparently known reason. When arriving at my destination in another state, (approx. 60 miles), I researched the internet for potential problems. A number of other 2002 Jeep Liberty owners had experienced similar problems. Additionally, several owners had experienced engine stalling when braking at a stoplight or intersection. On July 28, 2015, when traveling on an interstate highway, I pulled off to the safety lane to take a telephone call. While I was slowly pushing on the brake pedal to move safely to curb lane, the engine stopped working, as did my steering. Quick thinking - having read prior owners' comments - told me to put the car in neutral and turn the ignition key on. That worked! I got the car safely to the side lane. I am in the process of getting problems corrected; however, other owners have stated that the problem of stalling persists.

4 Engine Stall problem of the 2012 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/18/2015

I started off by driving down hill on highway 40. All vehicle lights lit up on dashboard, enging stalled, no brakes or steering. I shifted the vehicle to neutral and was able to come to a stop on the shoulder of the road when the vehicle started up the next hill. No turns, the road was straight. Turned the key off and restarted the vehicle, and the Jeep ran fine. Later that day in a parking lot, the same thing happened. Started the vehicle, started to pull out of the parking lot, all of the dashboard lights came on, the engine stalled and had no brakes or steering. Placed the vehicle in neutral until the Jeep came to a stop, turned the key off, then restarted the vehicle and the Jeep ran ok until we got home.

In may 2015 the engine seized/failed on my 2005 Jeep Liberty limited which had 132,026 miles. Apparently, this is common for Jeeps this old and with many miles on them. A remanufactured engine installed was about $4,500; not worth it.

I had been driving for less than 5 minutes after leaving an appointment. I was able to restart the engine and drive to the unocal station, get gasoline and I called the long beach Chrysler Jeep, the dealership where the solenoid pack was replaced the week before. I was told to get my vehicle to the closest dealership. I delivered the vehicle to south bay Chrysler & Jeep about 4:00 p. M. On 8/8/03. They test drove the vehicle, performed some diagnostic tests, however, could not explain the propblem and returned my vehicle to me.
