3 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 11/24/2018

Check engine light is on. Running rough not idling correctly. There is no power on acceleration, vibrates and smokes. I took it to tires plus 1st time, cost me $800 for diagnosis, compression tests and repairs they say needed to be done to fix the problem. About a month later check engine light came back on. Took Jeep back and was told this time that the value(s) are not seating. Told to take it to the Chrysler dealer due to a safety issue. I researched on websites and found this is a common issue for 2004 - 2011 Jeep Liberty as well as dodges. Why have they not issued a safety recall on this? the rocker arms are popping out and causing havoc in the engine. Dealer says no recall. Chrysler you know you have a problem why not fix it!! this is a very serious safety issue!!.

6 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 10/27/2017

My husband and I drove my 2002 Jeep Liberty to dinner and while driving back home, without any notice, the car started blowing heavy smoke from the exhaust pipes. Then it completely died, stopped! no check engine light, no check oil light and no warning whatsoever! I now have this vehicle sitting in my garage because it's going to cost us approximately $5000. 00 to fix. While researching this issue on the internet, this issue with the engine just stopping, has happened to hundreds of other people that own this same vehicle. I have not found anyone that feels it's worth fixing. All internet reviews lead me to believe that if replaced, it will happen again. Why isn't Chrysler made accountable?? they know they got away with selling a lemon! this could potentially become a safety issue, if someone is driving on the expressway and the engine just stops as mine did! Chrysler should be forced to recall the engine or give back some sort of compensation to everyone that has had this issue. Can't believe, that after so many complaints, the government or better business bureau, have not gotten involved in forcing a recall for this 3. 7 engine.

11 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 12/19/2013

I bought my Jeep Liberty jet in Feb 2012 brand new out of the show room. I am a military vet and wanted a reliable car to drive in for my pcs moves. I started having vehicle shakes in 2013 for my 2012 Jeep Liberty jet. In December 2013 I took it to milton reuben Chrysler dealership for check engine light. I was also informed there was a safety recall on it that I was unaware of. The vehicle was in the shop for over a month for cylinder 3,4,7 misfires. The heads were replaced. In August 2014, not even a year after my vehicle was in the shop I had to return for shakes. My child was in the car at the time it was shaking violently. I called Chrysler, not the dealership, to complain of this safety issue and for long term help solving the issue. They basically said I was on my own and the dealership didn't want the vehicle as a trade in because of its lengthy wrap sheet. They replaced cylinder 3 and 7 again. I thought the worst was over until August 29, 2015 the shakes came back. I took it to dealership and they gave me a bill for $1100 for cylinder 5 misfire. The vehicle has less than 80,000 miles on a 100,000 mile warranty. It has been in the shop every year since we have had it for major work. The dealership doesn't want it and Chrysler is not taking responsibility for the fact they built a faulty vehicle. Every 20,000 miles I am having issues.

19 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/10/2012

Jeep started missing and stalled as I was driving. Lost break pressure and steering control of the vehicle. Thank goodness I was able to get to the side of the road without an accident. The engine light came on and the vehicle would not restart. After being towed to a mechanic, he told me the values where done and the motor was shot. I have since looked up the problem on the web and have found that most 2002 Jeep Liberty's have experienced the same problem, repeatedly, one guy is on his fourth motor. Spoke to the local Chrysler dealer who acted like I spoke a foreign language, never heard of the problem. This is the company we just bailed out with taxpayer dollars, correct! I am at a loss, can't afford to fix it nor buy a new vehicle. Please put some pressure on Chrysler to address the issue, we addressed theirs.

23 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/25/2011

This is my second complaint. Getting ready to return my 2006 Jeep Liberty (4x4) to a Jeep dealership for the 8th time. Engine hesitates, loses power and check engine light constantly comes and stays on. They have already done the following: replaced O2 sensors, plugs (three times), run numerous diagnostics, replaced left side values, replaced left side cylinder block, replaced right side cylinder block and also replaced the left side cylinder block they replaced the time before, replaced timing housing gasket, and who knows what else. Chrysler and mechanics can't solve the problem. All my research says this engine is faulty and needs to be recalled. I have found numerous complaints about this engine and vehicle. Something needs to be done. After thousands of dollars spent, nothing has been resolved. After over two months with 5 different Chrysler case managers, they only want to give me $350 for this problem. No consumer should have to go through this, especially when the taxpayers have bailed out this company.

24 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Engine light would flash for 5-10 seconds and engine would hesitate. After this occurred 2 or 3 times the engine light would stay on. Mechanic replaced O2 sensor per engine code. Problem continued. Went to Chrysler dealership. They replaced plugs and did diagnostic. Problem continued. Went back to dealership two more times and they now said that a nhtsb said Liberty was having value problems. They replaced left side values. Two days later same problem continued. Took back to dealership, they called Chrysler and were told to replace cylinder block. Replaced block. One day later, same problem. Vehicle back to dealerhip for the 6th time and no solution. Contacted Chrysler, have had 5 different case managers and no satisfaction, just the run around.

26 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 02/10/2011

While driving my 2002 Jeep Liberty at an estimated 45-50 mph, the engine suddenly stalled and then shut off without warning. The engine roared as if accelerating and rpms fluctuated from high to low without increasing actual vehicle speed and lost control of steering and coasted until car stopped. The dashboard lit up for battery, check engine light, and oil and all other power stayed on, including radio and headlights and emergency lights. When car came to a stop, I put the car in park and turned it off and restarted it. Dashboard indicators turned off and car started normally to only repeat the same engine stall less than a mile away at a slower speed. Car then required several more attempts to start engine. At this time, the car had a 1/2 tank of gas. The next day I changed all fluids including oil, antifreeze, coolant and added a fuel injection cleaner and filled car to a full tank and was able to drive back home without issue. Next time car was used same engine stall happened as car was in reverse and without the rpm fluctuation or dashboard indicators lighting up. New battery installed and hooked up to computer for data codes which revealed no error codes. Car currently in shop for 7 days with over $500 in costs that did not solve problem. Car maintenance in great shape at 103700 miles and full car tuneup done just last year by Jeep dealership. I have been told by the mechanic of several different problems it could be or not be, and invest money in repairs that may not even solve the problem. Total engines failures/stalls in one week averaged 2 times each time the car was driven. Given the traffic and traveling speed of the car, I was lucky to have avoided collision but do not feel safe or trust to use my car especially after reading complaints of others experiencing same engine failure without a solution provided that solved the problem.

27 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2003 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 10/14/2010

Vehicle stalls when driving. 2003 Jeep Liberty sport/freedom. When driving, car felt like it was tightening, check engine light came on, rpm dial started spinning like crazy, and the car completely shut down. Towed to mechanic, told code registered cam shaft sensor. Replaced! picked up vehicle, drove 4 miles, shut down again. If vehicle sits and cools off, it will restart. Drove back to mechanic, he replaced cam shaft sensor - thinking it was defective. Next morning, on way to work, stalled while driving again. So, three days in a row, same problem. Very dangerous!!!!!!. This time code registered computer problems, and he suggested I take to dealer, as code part was covered under federal emissions warranty. Took to dealer on Friday, October 22 - 8 days now (also need to do recall work, apparently that's not high on a dealer's list) and he said he can't get it to stall, and his code is registering a transmission issue. I know I'm a 'girl', but it doesn't make sense that the car would completely shut down if the transmission had gear problems. The car completely shuts down! wondering why no recall - seems like other Jeep owners have similar problems (reading threads on internet). I think dealer may be trying to save costs, because I told him I no longer feel safe in the vehicle and may trade or sell. He said part is $875, but can't guarantee that is problem, he has to clear all the codes 1st. How does he know the computer isn't kicking out faulty codes at this point? I say this because when we replaced the crank shaft sensor, the computer said it was still bad, although it was a brand new part. And, the mechanic did not get the code the dealer is getting now. Seems like Jeep has a problem, but no solution. Btw, my 7 year/70,000 mile warranty apparently expired on may 24, 2010.

28 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 10/11/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that the vehicle was misfiring abnormally and was taken to the dealer for repairs. The dealer made repairs to the engine and released the vehicle to the contact. While driving 25 mph, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. The dealer advised the contact that the engine was misfiring due to valve failures within the engine block. The vehicle was not further repaired as the authorized dealer planned on further examining the vehicle. The failure and current mileage was 45,000.

29 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/22/2010

I purchased a 2006 Jeep Liberty 3. 7 liter with 34,000 miles. My wife was driving the vehicle home from work when the Jeep began to stall and the vehicle speeds up on its own. The check engine light came on and is still on and I can know longer drive it because I am afraid of it stalling in an intersection or on the highway. I took it to the local shop and they said they did a compression test and that is had bad valve springs and valves and maybe needs new heads. I am not the only person with this issue many people have had this problem and Jeep has done nothing. This seems like a major design flaw and a major safety problem I hope it doesn't take someone getting hurt for a recall to be issued. Thanks.

31 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/19/2008

2 weeks ago we had an engine light come on and took it to a dealership to have it serviced. It came back after putting it on the analyzer that cylinder 6 had misfired so they just reset the light and said if it came back on to come in and they would replace the sparkplug. 2 weeks later the light came back on and the upper and lower seal blew. I was told by the service dept. That it would be 6 to 8 weeks to get the part and that we are number 60 on the list for the same parts. Is there a recall problem that we don't know about?.

32 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/11/2008

I purchased vehicle Aug 2008 with 7500 miles on it. From that time to current date, fuel spills out when filling the gas tank full. Shortly after purchase, the first of 3 occurrences of the rear windows falling happened. The dealership repaired the first one, the second one I had to pay $100 deductible to have my extended warranty cover the cost to the same dealership. Now the first one is broke again, costing me another $100 deductible. In addition, in the past week I have spent over $600 to replace the ignition switch (vehicle would only start using my remote start) and problems with the check engine light on. I had the spark plugs and coils changed, injectors cleaned, compression checked, intake and carbon cleaner run through engine, and complete oil change. This doesn't include the $600 I spent today for new tires also spent $140 for a new battery last year. The window seal strips on both front windows continue to fall off. . It's not over yet - vehicle is in the shop now for the engine light. Who knows how much it will cost me. Chrysler needs to be accountable for their negligence in putting vehicles like this on the market. I hope a serious injury or fatality doesn't have to happen to get their attention. I haven't even addressed the safety recall notice I recently received. Vehicle currently has 58,000 miles on it.
