Had been driving and hear squeaking/creaking when turning the vehicle. Every once in awhile, I would feel the vehicle slip on a turn. One morning when I was driving to work; as I entered the parking lot, I heard a loud pop on the driver's side followed by a harsh grinding. I was able to pull into a parking spot, but it is clear that the vehicle is not driveable. I was going no more than 5mph when this occured.

My wife and I were returning from vacation when without warning the car acted like it was going over a wash board surface for a few seconds and then came a loud bang and then no power. The vehicle pulled hard to the left briefly (we were in the passing lane). I struggled to get the car over to the right shoulder and shut it down. There was a trail of oil on the highway and it continued pour oi out of the engine after I stopped. Prior to the incident, the car was running correctly and none of the warning lights on the instrument panel came on until after the event. The temperature gauge was at its usual twelve o'clock position. Once off the road I opened the hood. There was oil all over the bottom of the engine. The serpentine belt and the tensioner pulley had been ripped off the engine. With a flashlight, I could see the front few inches of the front skidplate. The were fragments of metal on it along with oil. I checked the oil filter under the car and it was intact. The car was towed to gator Chrysler-Jeep in melbourne, FL. The car was examined on 11/30/2010 by the diesel tech who told us that he had never seen one of these engines fail like this. He also told us that he had spoken to a Chrysler engineer and that engineer said much the same. The tech told us that he had found two holes in the front of the engine block and that the skidplate was covered with shrapnel from the engine. The tech also told us that the oil pan looked like someone had taken a shotgun to it. A dealer service writer showed me at least one of the other holes found toward the back of the block on the passenger side. I put in a claim with Chrysler. It was rejected. They claim "insufficient lubrication". According to the service manager at gator, they did not open up the engine to see what really happened as Chrysler would not authorize such activity. Vehicle year: 2005
vehicle make: Jeep Liberty limited 4 x 4
engine: 2. 8l turbo diesel
mileage at failure: 77,594.

While making a left turn onto my road from another driveway, my front left tire separated from it's joint, making it unable to drive. The tire was manually tied back in place with a strap and driven to a nearby garage (about 40ft. Away. ) finally a call was made to Chrysler describing the incident. On April 23, 2010 a call was made to a local dealership to replace the recalled parts. I was told that the parts had to be ordered in. When the parts arrive, the dealership would call me to schedule an appointment. As of today, 5/4/2010, I have not received a call to schedule an appointment.

Safety recall j17 I have contacted the dealer and ask to order the parts and he said they will call me when the part comes in, that was on 5/21/10, I called back last week and been told the part still was not in. I also been told they only do 1 car per week, if that is a safety issue, why does it take so long?.
Received safety recall notice on April 20, 2010, and dealer is unable to get parts to fix the problem until July or August.

I received a recall notice from Chrysler (safety recall j17) a few weeks ago. I called my dealer to have it repaired, and he told me that Chrysler was only permitting them to have one recall kit installed per week, and that there was a waiting list. I am still waiting. Why did Chrysler issue a recall if they are not willing to fix it in a timely manner?.
Front left (driver's side) suspension collapsed while driving the vehicle.
It happened again yesterday! I have a Jeep Liberty 2002. My front passenger side wheel fell off while I was driving (with my kids) in a residential area:had it been on the highway, I know there would have been injuries. I have had two recalls. First recall 2004 and another at the end of 2007. January 2008 while I driving both front tires popped off (very scary), then second recall was done. Since this was supposedly taken care of, I thought that all was ok and then it happens again last night! why can somebody make Jeep find an answer before there is a fatality, or is this what hey are waiting for? the right number of deaths.

While driving at approximately 30/35 miles an hour, I hit a dip in a road ,my front passenger tire with swing arm collapsed outward. I have a Jeep Liberty sport.
-the contact owns a 2003 Jeep Liberty. While driving 25 mph he lost control of the vehicle. He hit a bolder on the road. Road conditions were somewhat rainy. The vehicle was at the body shop and they are repairing the front suspension of the vehicle. The current and failure mileage were 93,000. The consumer provided a copy of the recall notice, insurance information, philadelphia non reportable accident report and estimate of repairs stating the vehicle is a total loss. Updated 09/04/07.
Evening nb on I-15, semi in the way, 2003 Jeep Liberty 4x4, swerve to left to avoid truck, back to right to avoid car in lane, vehicle dove down on left front wheel and went end over end, then 3 complete rolls side to side. After 45 minutes I was cut out of vehicle. Vehicle was totaled.
On August 16th, 2006 my wife and I were on our way home when her 2004 Jeep Liberty came to a abrupt stop while in traffic (about 20-25 mph to 0 mph in a flash of a second, thrusting us both forward). The road conditions were not good (heavy rain, low visibility), however, our trip was uneventful up to this point. The vehicle was towed to the nearest dealership thereafter. My complaint stems from the earlier conversation my wife had with a local Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep dealership (baxter auto group). Upon calling them on Monday August 14th, 2006 to reserve an appointment she was asked to describe the problem. She noted that there seemed to be problems with the steering. . . And that the wheels seemed to "grind" when turning the vehicle. We had heard on from her father that certain Jeeps were being recalled for steering and or front suspension problems. When she asked the service person whether or not she should be concerned he noted that, "if the problem is not occurring all of the time then she should wait until the recall begins in September. " the dealership was definitely not proactive in helping us with this problem. I could only imagine what would have happened to the two of us if this vehicle failure happened one to two minutes earlier on the freeway driving 60 mph (in heavy rain with moderate traffic). Though the recall on the 2003-2006 model year Jeep Liberty does not start until September I would really like to see Chrysler become more proactive. If someone has the same problems as we did. . . Then the dealerships should waste no time at all and remind the driver that they are now driving at their own risk. Or a better idea would be to no longer drive the vehicle. Please feel free to contact me for any other information.
1)loud noise in the front 2) then a jerk of the car to the right 3)loud bang, sounded as if something just dropped to the ground 4) could not control the vehicle.
Hard constant pulling to right and grinding. Some times a popping noise.
I have a popping noise in the front end of my 2002 Jeep Liberty 4wd. I took it to Jeep and after 2 days they took the front end apart and put it back together and the problem got much better but not completely gone. Is there a recall on this and do other people have this problem. My car has 55,000 miles on it.
Loss of control of 2003 Jeep Liberty resulting in accident and personal injury. Driving car on parkway. Gently stepped on brakes, car pulled sharply to the right. Took foot off brake and reapplied, car pulled sharply out of control and to the left into center highway divide. Could not pull car off center divide as car skidded to a stop. No other cars involved. Damage to car and injuries reported to police. Contacted Jeep, they are sending an investigator over. Have not heard anything since.
Vehicle pulls to the right. Has been taken in for repair repeatedly. All dealership does is realign but does not look into why this keeps happening.
Consumer states that while driving at respective speeds of 30mph, 50mph and 60 mph or above, the vehicle shimmys excessively on the front end. Vehicle checked by dlr 3x who has been unable to determine cause of problem. Consumer stated shimmying is very distracting while driving and is very concerned that problem can not be diagnosed. Nlm.
Vehicle only has 19,900 miles on it and had 3 alignments due to the vehicle continually pulling to the right. Have brought to the dealership each time to fix but it continues to pull to right. Not only does this problem continue to exist but it is ruining my tires!!!!.
Everyday, there is a clunk from the front driver's side of the vehicle when backing out of a car port and while turning the wheel to straighten up at a low speed. Same noise has also been heard when going over bumps.
The suspension is so low in the front (only measures 5") that when you drive off road the rocks/sand fill up the skid plate and if left there could rub holes in the oil pan/mess up the boots on the suspension and possibly stop the suspension from functioning. If driving on slushy/frozen roads the vehicle would becme a ski. Is this an off-road vehicle as advertized or is it strickly an asphalt vehicle.
Have experienced harmonic noise and vibration in the floor board and center console. The vibration and noise are most apparent when decelerating from a higher speed down through 50 to 55 mph. The vibration and noise sound as if you have knobby all terrain tires on the vehicle when in fact you do not. The dealer had the vehicle for two days and made every effort to identify the vibration and noise. They found a slightly out of balance wheel, but the vibration and noise remain. Since then, I have driven two other Jeep Liberty vehicles, both of them having similar vibration and noise. Perhaps I have a discriminating ear being an engineer, but that does't explain why passengers also feel the vibration and hear the noise. I guess I am fortunate to have the 7 year/ 100,000 mile warranty on the drive train.
Since date of purchase vehicle pulls to the right while driving. Have taken it to the dealer and they checked it, but it still pulls to the right.
Within a year and a half, I had three windshield replacements. Insurance agent said with that many replacements, could be defect. Every time Jeep hit bump, would squeak. Took two dealerships 5 attempts to fix. Paint was peeling on grill, had repainted. Jeep constantly pulls to the right. Have had alignment and tire rotations, still not fixed. Latest, all four aluminum wheels are corroding due to them being manufactured with aluminum and steel. According to the dealership, the rims have been redesigned, but because my mileage is over 36, 000 miles, they are charging to replace them even though a dealer at the same dealership was having the exact same problem and had his replaced at no cost. Field district manager refuses to speak to me, who made the decision for me to pay. Can someone please guide me in the right direction. I need help. Cgray78@aol. Com.
The vehicle pulls to the right and several attempts have been done; it continues to pull to the right.
Dealer corrected defect . Auto workers should wake up on the line and do their job! no safety defect listed.
