3 Suspension problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 03/19/2025

I was going around a corner when it felt like a cinder block was under it. I stopped and looked but it wouldn't go and the driver's wheel was slumped where you couldn't drive it. I called the tow truck and had it towed to get it fixed. The lower ball joint and control arm had to be replaced on both sides in the front. It was going to happen on the passenger side also. If I would have been on the freeway my car would have flipped and I wouldn't have survived. The back tires had a recall on them that I had done. Also the upper ball joints had to be replaced.

4 Suspension problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 01/22/2025

I was driving down the freeway at 70 mph, and suddenly my car (2006 Jeep Liberty) felt as if the rear end was dragging and I began to lose control of my vehicle. The icy michigan conditions were no help, but thankfully the drivers surrounding me were attentive and moved out of the way until I was able to regain control and pull onto the shoulder. I had my vehicle towed to a shop, where I was informed the rear control arm had fractured and in turn damaged the rear axle. I found out there was a recall for this exact problem on my car, a blessing because my family is struggling very badly financially. But, Chrysler says my vehicle's VIN is not listed on the recall and it is not their problem. Not only is this extremely dangerous for all drivers of these effected vehicles, but my kids missed school today because I don't have a functioning vehicle. Manufacturers need to be held accountable and publicly announce all vehicles that could be effected, not whichever number of vehicles pleases public relations.

5 Suspension problem of the 2008 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 10/08/2024

Rear control arms rusted on both sides. One side cracked almost completely through. Mechanic confirmed close to failure which would cause loss of control of vehicle. In 2017 this model was recalled for this danger but only through model year 2007. Appears same defective part was used in this model year (2008). No warning lights of problem. Observed myself and mechanic confirmed problem.

6 Suspension problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/19/2024

[xxx] my son’s 2004 Jeep Liberty with 90k miles was towed to andy mohr Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram4505 w 96th st indianapolis, in 46268 by cooks. I requested the vehicle be towed bc at approximately 530am I was driving the vehicle in the parking lot and turned right out of the parking lot in order to pull to a stop sign. Shortly after turning the wheel to the right I heard grinding that got progressively worse as I continued to coast to the stop sign. Then I heard a loud noise a and couldn’t move the vehicle. The tire fell off and I got out and fluid was leaking from vehicle. I researched recall for this vehicle and there were several regarding ball joints and knuckles rusting and breaking. I called the dealership days after it was towed and spoke with landon (sales) @935am he noted there was a recall on ball joints 9/12/2006 and he said he would print the document he will review notes pass to corey (service) and I should get a call back the following Monday. I never heard back. I called the dealership to follow up on status of recall and repairs. I never received an any confirmation that any research was done on the recall but I did approve the repairs. However I continue to find so much information on problems with this issue . I would like to be reimbursed for the repairs. The car was a gift from my son’s grandmother and was in immaculate condition despite being older vehicle she rarely drove it as the mileage reflected. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

On Monday doing 35 mph the driver side hits the pavement hard! luckily I ditched in a driveway on the left! the tire slammed into the fender well breaking the plastic there and the piece that goes back under the doors? ball joint broke completely into? I'm on my third day of working in the rain alongside a road repairing this?.

10 Suspension problem of the 2007 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 11/10/2023

Pulling away from getting gas I heard and felt a loud bang. Could not turn my wheel much. Something was scraping the ground. I got out and saw my lower ball on the driver's front broke off slightly pulling my cv joint. Sat for hours until I got a tow back home. I'm lucky I wasn't on the highway, I could have died. Doesn't show a recall but I just purchased this car. Have had nothing but issues.

11 Suspension problem of the 2009 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 11/08/2023

While driving I heard a popping sound and felt the vehicle sway slightly. The vehicle continued to making intermittent banging noises towards the rear passenger side. Upon stopping and investigating I found the rear control arm had failed on the passenger side. I also examined the driver side rear control arm. It was intact but has significant rust, which likely contributed to the passenger side failure, as it also has significant rust. Car has been parked since the incident. I would like to know if the manufacturer/dealer will replace both components free of charge. There was a safety bulletin for the same issue for the 2004-2007 model year of the vehicle (18v-278). A search on the internet found the same failures in my model year for the lower control arms.

19 Suspension problem of the 2009 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 03/16/2023

The rear suspension lower control arms were rusted and cracked to the point they were close to breaking into pieces. There were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms that alerted us to this problem - we happened to look under the car one day and noticed this. This problem was inspected, confirmed, and repaired by a local mechanic and reported to Jeep via their customer service. I am aware that this particular part caused a recall for the 2007 Jeep Liberty (and I'm guessing this is correlated with similar recalls in other manufacturers, e. G. The 2007-2011 Honda crvs were recalled due to corrosion in the lower frame due to DE-icing agents).

Out of all the vehicles I've had this is the first to take off by itself.

27 Suspension problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/20/2022

Was turning into a parking spot at a convenient store and my driver front lower ball joint snapped at the base it is a clean break you can hold part in back to gather without gaps. The front lower ball joint on the passenger side broke in half which caused my tire to completely separate from the car. After replacing it, a closer inspection was done on both upper front ball joints and the driver side lower ball joint. All need replacement. It was a near miss crash, but mine and others safety is still on jeopardy because I can't afford to replace all of them. I haven’t received any recall information in the mail from the manufacturer.

29 Suspension problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 06/14/2022

The rear lower control arms on my car are about to break. One has holes all the way through. At 40 mph, vehicle shakes in back. Issue also causes stability control to malfunction. No Jeep dealers that I can use will make appointments before 06/27 even after being shown the terrible condition of the parts. Nor do they offer a loaner car. I contacted Jeep themselves and was offered no manner of accommodation or compensation. I drive for a living, so I can either risk my safety, or give up two weeks income, and job, waiting for Jeep and it's dealers to fix defective equipment. If Jeep and their dealers are unable/unwilling to fix dangerous recalls in a timely manner, they should either afford customer a rental car, or offer to buy the vehicle at market value. I would have accepted either, and not filed this complaint, had I been offered.
