1 Manual Transmission problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 04/10/2009

Clutch safety switch on 2006 Jeep Liberty (3. 7 l gas engine) failed after 40 k. Ironically, this requires replacement of the entire master cylinder (cost $375). Would ignore problem, but this also deactivates the cruise control. Silly design in that a simple switch failure requires hydraulic system work.

2 Manual Transmission problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 10/20/2008

This is the letter I sent Chrysler corporation. I have a major problem with the valve seat coming off and damaging my Jeep Liberty engine. We purchased the car new and have continually provided maintenance on the vehicle at your dealerships. In fact, we were one of the very first owners of the Jeep Liberty and was invited and participated in a focus group supporting this vehicle. What is upsetting is the lack of interest now from your customer relations department except for your local dealership who has been supportive, on what has occurred. This is a safety issue and this problem is a manufacturer defect . This incident could have caused my daughter to have an accident since she was driving this car as a high school senior. I will take every step possible and report this safety issue to all parties. I was told the engine needs to be rebuilt or replaced and Chrysler customer relations wont help. This is not a isolated incident as other data has been discovered on other similar engines reported same resulting problems. I have photos and there is additional information revealing other valve seat problems resulted in damage to other engines.

3 Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 05/10/2008

Parking brake failure while loading my boat nearly cost my son and myself our lives. Backed truck and trailer onto ramp to load boat. Noticed the truck slipping on the ramp and suddenly rolled off the ramp hitting my boat and my son had to crawl out the door and swim for safety. He is six years old. Vehicle was not running with the transmission in gear and the parking brake engaged.

4 Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 11/01/2003

While driving on any surface, my 4wd manual transmission 2003 Jeep Liberty pulls strongly to the right. It easily goes off the edge of the road, creating the need for an off road recovery. Dealer rotated the tires, but said that the wheels were aligned properly after an accident, an all wheel alignment was completed but it still pulls severely to the right. To add insult to injury, when applying the brake in the rain or on a wet surface, the tires skid and do not properly slow the vehicle down, so trying to manipulate the vehicle to not skid off the right side of the road into the ditch is difficult without being in at least partial 4wd--and that doesn't even help occasionally.
