36 Power Train problem of the 2003 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/08/2018

Vehicle will not move in any direction except reverse. We drove to a store and when reversing out of parking spot, the vehicle seized in reverse and wouldn't shift to drive initially. We managed to drive home and pulled into driveway. When we went into reverse to adjust vehicle position, it wouldn't move when we shifted to drive. We had to drive car in reverse around our loop in order to park car. We just had to have car towed to repair shop and are now waiting to find out cost to repair. I am reading about numerous complaints over the course of years with no recalls established or offers of repair. This is unacceptable for a company to be aware of an ongoing issue and not extend repair solutions.

37 Power Train problem of the 2008 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 06/10/2018

Once the vehicle has been driven and then turned off, it will not start for 20 to 30 minutes until it has cooled off. It is not showing any codes, not overheating or running hot, spark plugs, spark plug wires, alternator, and battery have been replaced. I've seen several complain about the same issue with 2002 liberties and newer. It is apparently an issue with a transmission shift module being too close to a heat source, and it can't tell the vehicle is in park until the engine cools down. If you drive it and leave it off for less than 5 minutes there is not an issue, but if it's turned off more than 5 minutes it takes between 20 and 30 minutes before it will start. It started several months ago so I'm not sure of the exact date. I can turn it off and do a remote start with the key and it will start back up if the remote start time hasn't expired yet, but I shouldn't have to do that to be able to start it again.

Failure Date: 01/02/2018

On January 2, 2018, I submitted a report detailing the defects for an emissions control system to the u. S. Attorney's office for the eastern district of michigan. That report also detailed safety defects. That was for vehicles manufactured by what is now fiat Chrysler automobiles. Circumstances related to the system allegedly being put into production were also explained to the aforementioned office. Have they contacted your office? please let me know. I have not heard from them and thus do not know if any actions have been taken. I am the engineer who did the analysis on the emissions control system and prepared the report.

47 Power Train problem of the 2008 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/24/2017

The front axles of the Jeep are extremely heavily corroded beyond anything I've ever seen. The steel is easily removed by hand and the axle nut is no longer present. This affects both sides but no other steel parts appear to have the same corrosion issue. The axles are the original Jeep parts from the factory. The vehicle was stationary when the issue was discovered.

Failure Date: 06/02/2017

The electrical system fails from winter to summer causing miscellaneous information to the computer, the auto can overheat, it can also clear down and open failure of gasoline. The ball joints fail truly. It happened to me in three occasions when I circulated by the city when crossing on a street, while passing a tumble, and on a terrace street. The front brake system breaks causing brake liquid leaks this is caused by the warming of parts and dirt. I saw the stain in the soil when I park in my garage and check.

50 Power Train problem of the 2012 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 05/20/2017

I placed this vehicle's automatic transmission shifter, with the engine running into the park position on 05/20/17 at approx. 12:15 am. I sat in the vehicle for a few minutes. I exited drivers side, closed that door after placing patrol items onto the front seat. I moved to passenger front door, opened it and and retrieved a patrol bag and items from that seat. After closing passenger door and walking away from vehicle the shifter "moved" down into reverse. Was it in "false park"? then the Jeep to back up off concrete parking pad and into a shallow lagoon on fripp island, st. Helena, SC. The fripp island property owners association auto insurance company, travelers, totalled out the vehicle stating it was no longer safe to drive?.

54 Power Train problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 01/18/2017

My engine failed like most people with a 2002 engine that I have spoken with. This was a bad year for these engines so I can not understand why they were not recalled. Every mechanic knows these engines would fail for no reason.

55 Power Train problem of the 2007 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/28/2016

Since I'm limited to word use I'll try to keep it short loss of power to turns off and doesn't want to restart, cruise control, mirrors, half of fuse box, windows off and on, ignition starts on it's own when in the start position, traction light now comes on, electronic throttle control light has come on, part time light stays on when in 2 wd. I can feel how it's trying to switch back and forth. This vehicle is becoming a lemon. I've changed the fuel pump, crank and cam sensors and also changed switches in the steering column. In which none of fixed the problems. After talking to the dealership I was told the wiring harness needs to be changed but that part is discontinued. . . . The vehicle isn't 10 years or older and after researching these issues there are many many Liberty owners with these same issues. How can we fix our vehicles if this part isn't available to us or the dealership??? Jeep has known about this problem all alone but doesn't want to have to do a recall on every since Jeep to fix this issue but I will not buy another Jeep unless they fix the issue. . I love the vehicle other than the problems I'm having. This happens at any given time without notice and is becoming worst. If I lose power and I'm driving this could cause an accident with lots of injuries if not death. Please make Jeep fix our vehicles. I can't afford to buy a new vehicle. This body is in great shape.

56 Power Train problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/10/2016

Shifter moves freely between park-reverse-neutral-drive-2nd-1st gears. This happens when the vehicle is turned on and off; and with or without a key in the ignition. If the shifter is bumped while driving down the road, the vehicle can be thrown into reverse and/or park. When I contacted the Jeep dealer in springfield missouri, I was told that Jeep has since redesigned the shifter control and the entire assembly must be replaced. Cost for the entire assemble is approximately $480 plus labor. If the problem is so apparent that it can be found thousands of times using google, and if the manufacturer has since redesigned the entire shifter control system; then one would think that they should have issued a recall.

57 Power Train problem of the 2008 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/17/2016

Severe rusting of all suspension components. Rf and lf cv joints rusted beyond repair. Front brake rotors beyond repair. Jeep dealers said vehicle has severe rusting and unsafe to drive. Was told may not be worth repairing. Most Jeep liberties are covered under a recall except 2008. Dealer said repairs would be in the thousands.

58 Power Train problem of the 2007 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/05/2016

I bought this vehicle on November 29,2014 a year later the Jeep start breaking down such as overheated and waterpump engine light electrical keep going off power windows seem off track all four windows . Pressure to drive it not pick up speed limit.

59 Power Train problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/26/2016

On two different occasions while driving on the highway at 60 mph to 70 mph, the engine of the vehicle shut down completely, without warning, with the loss of all steering or control over the vehicle. On two other occasions, the engine shut down completely, without warning, with the loss of any steering or control over the vehicle, after exiting the highway and entering city traffic. That is a total of four engine shut downs or stalls while driving the vehicle. The dealer can find nothing wrong with the vehicle. We just bought the vehicle, and this is nerve-wrecking and dangerous to say the least. The engine shuts down after driving long distances, and has happened from driving distances of approximately 90 miles to 160 miles. If you wait approximately one hour, the vehicle will then start up again and run. But it will stall again with complete loss of power. Others on the internet have also experience this problem with Jeep 3. 7 and 4. 7 powertech Jeep motors. Our Jeep is a 3. 7 motor. This appears to be the same problem as Jeep experienced with Jeep commander and Jeep grand cherokee models, which were recalled. This situation can obviously be life threatening. Chrysler Jeep should not be allowed to put life treating vehicles on the market and these Jeeps must be recalled. We ask for your help in this matter before someone is seriously injured.

61 Power Train problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 06/06/2016

To whom it may concern: I have a Jeep Liberty and I cannot drive it and I cannot get it fixed. It has been out of service for months. It was towed to my local mechanic. He tried to get a transmission several times but they were never the correct one. With the information provided by my mechanic and my research it appears Jeep put the wrong transmission in my Jeep Liberty which explains why I cannot find one to match. Jeep used the 42rle transmission from 2003-2013. The 42rle transmission has 4 connectors and a straight cross member. My transmission does not have 4 connectors and it does not have a straight cross member. Therein lies the problem Jeep put the wrong transmission in my Jeep. Also, Jeep recommends putting a transmission cooler on the vehicle. Why wasn¿t this done when it was first manufactured. The fact that the wrong transmission was used and they did not install a transmission cooler helps to explain why I have transmission problems. To me this is fraud. I did not receive what I paid for. I checked with a Jeep dealer and the service manager said the 2005 Jeep Liberty did not come equipped with a transmission cooler. Another Jeep dealer provided me with a recommended list of parts to repair the problem sight unseen and it included a transmission cooler that was not installed originally. Chrysler is offering a new lifetime powertrain warranty on 2006-2009 models that includes replacing powertrain components: engine, transmission and drive system including parts and labor or they will buy your vehicle back. These vehicles have the same components as the 2005 and for one year difference I receive nothing while others receive lifetime. That seems like discrimination to me. 62 Power Train problem of the 2010 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 04/15/2016

2010 Jeep Liberty spontaneously caught on fire and exploded on Friday April 15, 2016. My stepdad and I were out and we stopped and picked up a pizza on the way home and everything was just fine the whole drive home, no smell, no driving issues, no smoke, no overheating dings, no funky sounds. We pulled into the driveway to park and turned off the car, my stepdad got out first, and when I opened my door I said ¿ooh it smells like fall!¿ (I thought the neighbors were having a bonfire or something. ) then I saw it and told him ¿the car is smoking!¿ and I got out of the car and got away from it. He tried to open the hood thinking it was a radiator or something but it was so hot it burned his fingers and then he lifted it a bit with a screwdriver as we went to get the fire extinguisher and we saw the fire start shooting out of the sides. It was so hot and so fast. I screamed at him to get him away from it because I knew it was going to explode, and as soon as he was a bit away from it, the hood did explode up and then it started really shooting flames out and and that¿s when I called 911. There were several more explosions while we waited on the firefighters. It was totally engulfed in flames in 5 minutes. There is nothing left but a shell, and it was one layer from burning our house down. If we were in it another 60 seconds, we¿d have taken that first explosion to the faces. We could have died and we almost lost our house, our barn and another car inside the barn. I¿m furious. Other people could die.

63 Power Train problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 04/05/2016

The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Liberty. While driving at any speed, the speedometer malfunctioned and failed to display the actual speed of the vehicle. The vehicle lost power and stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the wiring for the sensor that was connected to the transmission became fractured when the emergency brake was applied. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 156,000.

64 Power Train problem of the 2007 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 01/26/2016

Auto transmission will shifts in and out of gear between 35 and 45 miles an hour. Jeep rearing end will knock really hard. It has been parked . An used as needed. Called about there recall they will not fix it.

65 Power Train problem of the 2012 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 12/21/2015

2012 Jeep Liberty, 55,000 miles. I stopped at a red light. When the light turned green I hit the gas to move forward and the truck went nowhere for about 5 seconds, when the transmission finally engaged. The truck jerked and I finally went forward. This truck has been checked with an independent mechanic then brought to the dealership as it is still under extended warranty. Very disappointing, as I love this truck. I guess I will be hesitant to buy another Jeep.

66 Power Train problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 11/13/2015

Manual transmission slams out of 1st gear into neutral when accelerating from a stop. This could cause a serious rear-end collision because the vehicle is suddenly out of gear at a critical point of acceleration. It is unpredictable and the only way to prevent it is to hold the stick shift securely while accelerating. It happens quite frequently.

67 Power Train problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/25/2015

The pain on the outside roof is peeling, I do live in a state where the roads are salted however, there is no salt used on the top of the vehicle, this, while not a new vehicle should not be peeling the way it is. The front windshield had a severe chip & the installer was barely able to sand this area down enough to be able to seal the windshield. I have done some research & this is a very common problem along with the rear window regulators both of which have had to be replaced. There are problems with the emergency break & the Jeep dealership gives one reason for the abs, esp among other wheel and breaking issues. And now the one thing that Jeep is finally supposed to be doing something about rather than me having to put more money into this vehicle for, the gas tank recall seems to be a ridiculous fix, and I have been on a waiting list for this for months and still have not been able to get it in to get this fixed. I saw a news story that said that Chrysler was being mandated to fix these very poorly made vehicles. I would like to know how this particular vehicle does not fall into the other recalls when it has been having the same issues. I have been having breaking system issues as long back as 13 months after I purchased this vehicle.

68 Power Train problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/15/2015

I was driving up the street heard something like a ran over something then Jeep cut off got out to see if I ran over something but nothing was there and Jeep would not start back up, what if I had been on the highway or busy traffic I could have been seriously hurt, which u am blessed that did not happen, the problem I have is Chrysler should notake anything that could cause you bodily harm. A computer should never go out that is dangerous. I had to have the Jeep towed to my home and then to a ship on two different times an one time back home from the shop because I did not have 900. 00 to repair. So I'm stuck without having my Jeep repaired because I'm on a fixed income. Also having electrical problem where Chrysler did poor wiring. , cigarette lighter keep going out, blinker and radio wiring is terrible and one of the front lights. Chrysler you got to do a better job, because I loved my Jeep, but very disappointed because I can't afford to have it repair.

69 Power Train problem of the 2008 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/06/2015

Driving on the freeway at 70mph when the ac compressor seized and blew the bearings out. Oil got on belt which caused it to slip on power steering pulley which slightly increased steering effort. Ac compressor is used to operate defogger. Since ac compressor is broken, defogger will not work and visibility may not meet federal standards depending on weather.

70 Power Train problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 06/17/2015

After driving my Jeep for about 20 minutes it will start going in and out of limp mode then it will downshift hard to 3rd gear and will rev the engine until it is shut off and started again. I am no longer driving it and am debating on whether or not to fix it as I just dumped over $3000. For engine. This car seems to be a walking time bomb.
