36 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 11/30/2015

I was driving at a speed of 50mph around a curve in the road and the engine stalled and the check engine light came on. I tried to put tin neutral and restart it, it did not turn over. I put it in park and after 3 tries it started. I immediately took it to the dealership and they told me it was a crankshaft position sensor. This happened once before on a Saturday and when I took it in on Monday they told me without a check engine light they could not know what was wrong.

40 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 07/15/2014

I purchased my 2011 Jeep Patriot from kraft Nissan November 16, 2013. When I initially purchased it they printed out the vehicle history report showing that the vehicle has never been in accidents and that there was only one previous owner. Since my purchase I complied with every scheduled servicing and hadn't had any major problems. Well, July 15, 2014, as I was driving on the highway, the transmission overheating light lit up so I drove to the nearest gas station and immediately contacted the Jeep customer service line and the operator instructed me to let the car cool off before starting it back up to continue with my journey. After about an hour and a half, I began to drive again and I immediately contacted kraft Nissan to schedule an appointment to get my vehicle inspected. My appointment was for July 17, 2014, and I left my car there with them for 10 hours, finally I called them and they explained that my transmission fluid was dirty and that I needed to get it flushed and the price would be over $500. I declined the service because the price seemed to be a bit steep, and I began to call around to find a better price, meanwhile, I was charged a $95 servicing fee even though that service should have been covered under warranty. As I stated before, I have never had any major problems with my automobile, well, July 18, 2014 my check engine light lit up and has been on ever since. It is now Sunday, July 20, 2014 and the light is still on. I am planning on taking my automobile back in to kraft Nissan to see exactly why my 'check engine' has been on since my visit with them.

41 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 07/08/2014

While driving several times I have had the engine stall out on me and all power is killed from the vehicle. I have taken it to the dealer and they told me that unless the problem is happening when I bring in the vehicle they don't want to put money and parts into it. I bring it to then while the check engine light is on and still they wont do anything about it.

42 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

Over the past year my Jeep has been very sluggish, accelerates at higher rpm's than normal, "shifts" rough ( even though it is a cvt and doesn't have gears). For example, when I slow down to make a turn and then proceed to accelerate after the turn, my Jeep hesitates to accelerate, the rpm's plummet and then reach to over 3000 rpm's before it slams/jerks into gear to return to around 2000 rpm's. Twice my Jeep has shuttered and stalled while at red lights. Last week after backing out of my driveway, as soon as I put it in drive the electronic throttle control light started flashing and dinging at me. My Jeep went into "limp mode" and I was not able to travel 8 feet from my driveway. I pulled to the side of the road and attempted to restart my Jeep 3 times, and every time I had the same "limp mode"/electronic throttle control issue. The check engine light did not come on at all. The manual states that "if the light is flashing when the engine is running you may experience power loss, an elevated/rough idle, and increased brake pedal effort, and your vehicle may require towing. Immediate service is required. ". This does not sound safe. I had it taken to a certified auto mechanic who said it was a throttle body issue and that I would need to have it replaced. However, Chrysler/Jeep has 1,500-2,000 throttle bodies on back order and I was told it would take several months to even receive the part. I'm glad that my Jeep did not stall or go into "limp mode" while traveling on the highway as this could cause a fatal accident. I consider myself lucky, even though I am now making car payments on a vehicle that will not run. This is also my only vehicle. There must be a major issue with the throttle body to have 1,500-2,000 on back order and should be looked into.

43 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 10/21/2013

I was driving down the road when all of a sudden my car felt like it pulled back then just shut off in the middle of the road thankfully there wasn't a car behind me or there would have been a serious accident. After a few tries the car started, so I drove it home then the next morning I took it to the dealer. They stated after getting it back to me 2 days later that there wasn't a code, so they'd cleared the check engine light and gave it back to me. The following week I'm driving down the main road on my way home from work and the car does the same thing. This time it was really scary, because it was rush hour and I almost got hit by a car. I attempted to start it several times then sat for a bit with the four ways then tried it again. It started up and I drove it right to the dealer. I was so shaken it took a few minutes before I finally let them know what happened again. I left the car with them then the next day they called me to come get it. I went in where they told me that it had been the crankshaft sensor that had caused the problem. I'm truly afraid to drive my vehicle I keep wondering if it will happen again. I never had problems with my used cars, but I got a new car thinking I wouldn't have to worry about anything and now I have to worry about this car turning off in the middle of the highway.

44 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 09/17/2013

On 09/17/13 at 0858 hours, I was driving my 2007 Jeep Patriot on the I-17 frontage road when the vehicle began to lose power steering. Prior to the loss of power, I was travelling northbound on an even concrete surface at approximately 50 mph in normal traffic conditions. When the vehicle began to "act up," the light for my electronic stability control turned on and the esc became active and my check engine light began to blink amber. Due to esc, my vehicle was extremely difficult to control (once again this was on an even, paved surface with no conditions requiring the esc to activate). Along with the esc becoming active, my vehicle began to stall and lose power. My engine would peak at a mere 2000k rpm and at about twenty miles per hour. Thankfully I was only on a frontage road and was able to quickly pull into an industrial area, however, if I was on I-17 (which does not have a shoulder) I would have been in great danger. Once stopped, I had to stop/start my engine four times for the esc and check engine light to deactivate. Once they did the vehicle operated normally. I took the vehicle to Jeep dealership in north phoenix to see what was wrong with the vehicle. They advised it returned a "torque request signal denied" historical code for when the incident occurred, which "doesn't make any sense. " I believe the above incident is related to two events that happen on 9/14/13. During two separate right turns the vehicle began to stall through a turn only to jolt and regain power.

45 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 07/29/2013

We bought the Jeep used with about 50k miles on it. After a short time the check engine light came on for a valve to be replaced. Also, when we use the turn signal the dome lights come on. Of course even though we bought the warranty none of these problems are covered. I don't know how the lighting system failing could possible be wear or tear or misuse, but they say its not their fault and it's not covered. So in the 3 day period where we were waiting to have those problems fixed we had another problem. My wife and I were driving down the highway at about 50mph and the tire completely and instantly went flat almost causing us to wreck! with my 4 year old son in the back! we take the tire to a tire shop and they say it was the valve and it's a known problem with our vehicle for that year and explains everything about it. I call 2 other tire shops to verify what he said and they both automatically knew about the problem and said it happens all the time and I also need to have the others replaced costing over $350!!! we tell the Jeep dealership about it and they say we hit a rock driving down the road and they know of no such problems. I google the problem of tpms and sure enough tons of websites talking about everyone's ball joints going bad, and tpms problems. Not only are they acting like it's not a known problem when it clearly is. . . They put me and my families' lives at risk by acting like nothing is wrong and not letting us know that the problem will likely continue happening to the other tires!!!! this is an outrage and something needs to be done!.

46 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 01/25/2013

The following incident has occurred twice within the last week and a half: today, while driving (luckily coming to a stop) my Jeep began shaking violently and the engine shut off. It restarted and drove normally. Last weekend, while backing out of a parking space, the check engine light flashed and I immediately lost steering (soon realizing that the vehicle had shut off). Again, it restarted and drove normally. Had this occurred while driving on the interstate at a higher speed I'm sure the consequences could have been worse that causing concern. However, I have read on the Jeep forum that this problem has been occurring in 2011 and 2012 Jeep Patriots at higher speeds, one with a fatality. That alone is very disheartening. My Jeep currently has 10, 430 miles on it, I bought it in April of 2012.

47 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 07/16/2012

Car isn't getting any fuel. While trying to accelerate it sounded like I was going to flood it out. It would only go 5-10mph. Very bad hesitation and shaking and engine light came on.

48 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2008 Jeep Patriot

Failure Date: 03/15/2009

Vehicle intermittently stalls at highway speeds, rpm's noticeably drop approximately 500 before automatically restarting and recovering. No check engine light has come on during any experiences of this complaint. I have had this happen numerous times on 3 separate trips it doesn't occur until around 40-60 miles into trip well after vehicle is fully warmed up, vehicle will return to normal function for weeks at a time. Vehicle will be going in for service on 03/23/09, I'm not confident the problem will be resolved due to intermittent habit of problem.
