Every time I refill my tank with fuel, the first several minutes of driving the engine will hesitate and almost stall (or will stall if driving at slow speeds). While stopped in idle, engine will completely stall. Once some fuel is burned, the engine will no longer stall. This issue has been ongoing for years.

Sitting at a red light, vehicle engine light came on followed by the throttle warning light. Vehicle lost power and engine felt like it would stall. Vehicle would only drive at very low speed to get to safety. After restarting, engine light remained on, vehicle was drivable but soon failed again within a few miles and the throttle warning light came on again. Stability control light may come on as well. Was too concerned with getting to safety to know for sure.

When the gas tank is full the service lights come on engine stalls out about half a mile down the road. The steering wheel locks up when the engine goes out so you cant even coast over to the side of the road.

The engine stalls unexpectedly while driving, due to the intermittent failure of the crankshaft or camshaft sensor on the engine. This could result in an accident.

While driving g engine stalls and can not accelerate, red light w light bolt flashes while car stalls, usually for 10 seconds, then recovers. It happens more and more often. Happens on both freeway and street driving, 60mph and 35mph first time happened about three weeks ago.

While driving the engine stalls, essentially cutting my power steering and have little control over vehicle. Happens on freeway and in city streets and stop lights.

When accelerating my engine seems to bog down and stall very frequently. This had almost caused what could of been a serious accident. Once I was turning in a 4 way intersection and it stalled when car yielding to me was approaching me in intersection almost causing a t bone type crash and the other times was on the highway while accelerating the engine stalled each time causing what could of potentially been a life threatening accident. I was extremely close to being hit by a semi once, a truck pulling a trailer once and multiple cars on different occasions.

My wife was driving the Jeep and it turned off on her twice trying to get it back home. All electrical went out and engine stalled. After the second time it only goes 10 mph and still stalls and powers off. It is very dangerous and I feel something should be done from the number of complaints on the web.

Anytime I accelerate from a stop my 2014 Jeep Patriot jerks and shudders. So I'll be in traffic on the freeway or at a light and once I start going the Jeep will be jumpy and not accelerate. It's getting to the point where it's almost every stop and I feel like eventually the engine will just stall in the middle of a light. Which is definitely is a concern because I drive with a 4 year old most of the time. No engine light has came on so that's also a concern when trying to figure out what is wrong with the vehicle. It's not okay.

Without alerts, engine stalled while driving at approximately 30 mph on a straightaway, frontage road. Steering wheel locked up. I brought vehicle to a stop and turned on hazard signals. Removed key entirely and then re-inserted and attempted to start vehicle. Car failed to start but made ignition noises for approximately 10 seconds without success at which all alert lights on dashboard lit up only while key was turned but failing to start. I removed key entirely again and waited approximately fifteen seconds before re-inserting and attempting ignition once more. This attempt succeeded and I was able to drive vehicle home.

Takata recall: as you drive this vehicle the engine will slightly stall out and hiccup. Also causing the transmission to jitter slightly but noticeably so. It does it whether its hot, cold regardless. I feel as if this vehicle is affected by the engine recall because it does stall and stutter while driving.

I have a 2014 Jeep Patriot sport 2. 0l 4cyl wuth a cvt transmission. I bought it used certified in Feb 2018. About a month into owning the vehicle it started to buck and jerk. The car shakes while on idle and there is a loud helicopter sound coming from the back of the car. I took to to 3 different Jeep dealer and nobody could tell me what was wrong with the car. About 3 months after that the engine stalled without any warning. This happened as I turned on my street to go home. I had to wait a few minutes and it turned it back on and drove as if nothing happened. I took it to local mechanic and he could not find anything wrong with the car. The vehicle was not firing any codes nor was there any warning lights on the dash. The latest incident happend on August 18, 2019 drving home from a camping trip. I had 2 passengers in the car with me. The car bucks and jerks while on the highway and the car stalls while im drving the speed limit at 60 mph. Thankfully I was in the slow lane and was able to pull over to the right. After being all shaken up, again I had waitied a few minutes and car started and drove as if noting happend. It was one of the scariest things I have ever experienced. I have taken it to local mechanics and they dint know whats wrong with it. So I am currently drving my car and wondering when the car will stall again. It still bucks and jerks, feels like it will stall so I take my foot off the gas peddle and that seems to help. I no longer drive this car on the highway as I am scared to death of getting into a car accident. I strictly use this car to travel to and from work. I am tired of sending this car to the dealerships and mechanics with no resolutions. I want to trade this car in, but am afraid for the next person. I think this car needs to be recalled. These cars should not be on the road period!!.

This is an ongoing problem. The engine stalls randomly while driving. It is very unsafe. We have taken it to the dealer several times and they said they were unable to duplicate the problem. The first time we took it to the dealer. They said they couldn't find the problem because there weren't any computer codes. We took the car back home and the problem still occurred. We brought it back to the dealer and paid for them to do the work for the s89 recall even though our VIN isn't covered. I don't know why the recall just covers the wire harness and not the crankshaft sensor itself. We got the Jeep back. The problem still occurred. I took it back to the dealer and the third time they replaced the fuel pump and the throttle body assembly. We had to pay for the repairs because at approx. 42,000 miles it was out of warranty which is only 36,000 miles. We got the Jeep back. Not fixed. The Jeep has stalled at traffic lights and stop signs and also upon turning. We have also stalled going 60 mph on the highway and barely had time to pull off the road. Most of the time, the engine will restart right away, but sometimes you have to wait several minutes. The Jeep is back at the dealer. We had called Chrysler and gotten a case manager. We got a call from him yesterday that the dealer service dept. Still had not found the problem. He was going to check with them again tomorrow. It is unsafe to drive in this condition and we don't know why the problem isn't being fixed.

Car cuts off (engine stall) after starting & driving! first it was hard to start, then it would cut off after starting or putting into drive, finally it cut off on me while driving in the middle of the street (had to be towed)! thank god, I wasn't on a main highway! before the complete shut down, auto zone ran a check on my vehicle for me, showing battery & alternator were fine, but found that the sensor (crankshaft or camshaft) was the problem, with car cutting off! NHTSA shows this to be a problem (vehicle stalling,) with the 2016 Jeep Patriot, but my VIN is not listed. I spoke with my dealer, they acknowledged that was a known problem but not on my VIN#, & that I would need to pay for a diagnostic from them, to prove that is what wrong (can accept information from auto zone)! I am unable to use my vehicle, because of this problem, if this is a known problem with the Jeep Patriot by the dealer & NHTSA, why isn't my VIN# not on the list??.

I was driving very slowly on a side street near a park. I made a u-turn and as I finished coming out of the turn, my vehicle engine stalled. I was able to coast off of the road. I was nearly hit by another vehicle.

After the repair, the check engine warning indicator continuously illuminated. The contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 16v907000 (engine and engine cooling), but the vehicle was not included. With in this month of March my 2016 Jeep Patriot have at least 8-9 engine stalls unexpectedly while my family and I are driving on the highway, street and 2-3 unexpectedly at a stop sign. You have a recall/ engine stalls (16v907000). I taken my car to my Jeep dealer on 3/9/2019 to my service advisor(james beisiegel , direct#-904-493-8979 and we spoken to a Chrysler representative:1-800-992-1997. They both agree that my Jeep fall under the recall 16v907000 symptoms. But my vehicle doesn't fall under recall perimeters. My Jeep fall one month out of the perimeter of the recall. Chrysler representative and my service advisor wanted me to call NHTSA to see can you umbrella my 2016 Jeep Patriot under recall / engine stalls (16v907000). I feel unsafe when I drive my vehicle. I bought the Jeep in Nov. 2017, I only have the for 16 months. . I have to take a chance everyday. When my family and I get into the vehicle.

Vehicle began stalling while driving without warning, stalled on busy roads, on hills, turning corners, ect. Stalling occurred at infrequent intervals. Sometimes 3 times a day, then wouldn't happen for a few weeks. Sometimes the traction control light would come on after the stalling. Finally, after 2 months of trouble, the car finally showed an engine error code after stalling. Code was for the crankshaft sensor. Had it repaired for $162. 40. Very dangerous situation when your car dies in heavy traffic and there is no area to safely coast to out of the way of danger. Always fearful of getting rear-ended. Mechanics can't fix the problem because they don't know what the cause is until there is an engine light on. There are complaints on the internet about it, but Jeep hasn't warned customers of the problem.

The contact was informed that the mechanic performed a complete engine tune up, test drove the vehicle, and was able to duplicate the failure; however, the repair did not correct the failure. Tl the contact owns a 2016 Jeep Patriot. While driving 45 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to greenwood auto (659 s high st, cortland, OH 44410, (330) 637-1055) where it was diagnosed that the crank sensor wiring harness failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there were no recalls for the failure. The failure mileage was 89,280.

While driving I made a right turn and then the "tire light" began to flash and a warning sound was heard then the "traction control light" began to flash and alert sound was heard and then a "red lightning bolt" warning light was flashing on the dashboard and the "engine light" turned on, all lights were lit up and the engine stalled and couldn't get passed 20mph even thought the accelerator was almost to the floor. The vehicle has only less than 32000 miles, and has had its regular maintenance. I've seen several similar complaints on Jeep Patriot forums and seen that the 2014 and 2016 had recalls for this or related issue. When stopping the vehicle idles high and still moves even though the brake is fully pressed, and the temperature rises fast. I was driving at night on a city street so luckily the wasn't much traffic. The lights came on before I lost engine power and I shut off the vehicle and turned it back on and they went away but that didn't happen the second time it occurred, the lights stayed on and that's when I also lost engine power and the vehicle would stall. Moves fine in reverse but because the vehicle is idling really high it takes off in reverse by itself without using the accelerator.

While driving on a residential road my car stopped without indication, I pressed on the pedal but it wouldn't go. I turned off the car and restarted it right away and it came back on. The next time it was on the highway, everything on the car was still running but the gas pedal wouldn't do anything and it just stopped. I tried restarting the car but it wouldn't turn back on. The car made a loud stuttering noise like it wanted to start but it wouldn't turn on. All the lights on the dash flickered off and on the whole time while trying to restart it. I was finally able to get it back on after about 2-3 minutes of trying to restart it. I found a recall on the crankshaft sensor which causes the engine to stall but I checked my VIN and it shows that there isn't a recall associated with my VIN. The recall with Chrysler is s89.

When driving on the highway, my Jeep instantly turned off with no indication that there was something wrong; no indication of lights or warning issues presented just a loss of complete power. Brakes were hard to push and the power steering was lost as well making it very difficult to control while the car slowed down from going 50 mph. I was luckily in the far right lane when it happened making it easier to pull off to safety for myself and for everyone else behind me. Once stopped, I turned the car back on and all it did was make a sputtering like noise, but never turned on. I waited 5 minutes and tried to start it again and the car turned on this time, but roughly 30 seconds later it just turned off again with no warning. I found a recall on the crankshaft sensor which causes the engine to stall, but when entering my VIN it shows that there is no recall on my car's VIN. This recall needs to be opened up for other VIN's. The recall with Chrysler is s89. This is a huge safety issue!.

The engine is randomly stalling. It stalled the other day at the highway and keeps randomly doing it without any warning. I have to pull over every time and wait a couple of minutes to turn it on. It seems by reading this has been reported for the same model multiple times.

When driving the engine will stall/stop without warning. With it going staright or turning it does not matter. You have to completely stop the vehicle and then restart the engine. This has happened on a number of occasions.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. The contact cited NHTSA campaign number: 16v907000 (engine and engine cooling). Every time I fill up with gas the engine stalls shortly after and the steering wheel locks up while driving. Very unsafe! I've tried to get the issue fixed but it sounds like a defect in the gas tank. Nothing that I have replaced has resolved this reoccurring issue.

My car is 5 years old. During highway drives (1-2 hours), the engine stalls in the middle of the highway and is unable to maintain speed. This has happened several times. I am concerned about the safety of this vehicle.

I have a 2014 Jeep Patriot with about 33,474 miles when the problem occurred. I was driving going home in a busy street in los angeles when all of a sudden the malfunction indicator light (mil) and electronic stability control (esc) (see photos) light showed up on the dashboard and I stopped because the traffic light turned red. I had 3 passengers with me and they were trying to google what the dashboard light means. When the light turned green, I started to drive but the engine was stalling, as if it doesn't want to drive, no power. So I parked at the curb, turned off the ignition and waited for a few seconds then turned the ignition on again. The esc disappeared from the dashboard but the mil remained lit up. I was able to drive home and the next day, took the vehicle to my mechanic. My mechanic replaced the throttle body and it's working fine now. I noticed the difference in the performance of the vehicle before and after the throttle was changed. I am reporting this to you because I have heard news and got a letter from a law firm informing me of a number of mechanical defects reported about the vehicle. At this point, I am too late to bring it to a Jeep dealer for repair because the vehicle is out of warranty.

Anytime I fill my gas tank completely, the engine stalls while I am driving, within less than a mile from the gas station. Steering wheel locks and I have to turn off the car, wait 10-20 seconds, then restart the car in order to continue driving.

I have spent over $1500 on repair of an electrical throttle body and catalytic converter and I still have engine stalling and not being able to accelerate cars slows on its own I can't drive more than 20mph.

After filling my tank, everytime I leave the gas station the engine sputters and will stall. Luckily I'm able to sometimes get over on to the side of the road before being in an accident. This is very dangerous. During the winter months when it is cold outside, I am only able to put in a few cents at a time. It can take over 20 minutes to slowly fill up the gas tank. Max it will fill is a few cents at a time before you have to release the handle and then press it ever so lightly to fill up the next part. The engine will often sputter as it feels like it is going to quit running as I'm driving down the highway or interstate similar to what happens after you fill up your tank. The va the only time the Jeep is stationary is when I'm filling it up or after it dies after a fuel philip. The vehicle is always in motion either in the city highway city road when it kills after filling up. When it sputters and pills after filling up you are unable to use your wheel as it locks up, very dangerous. My life and my family's life is at risk.
