Jeep Renegade owners have reported 69 problems related to engine burning oil (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
2018 Jeep Renegade (2. 4l) automatic 4cyl 2wd with under 20,000 miles at the time it first started seizing up mid-drive, back in October. The vehicle spontaneously shut off in the middle of the street. I almost died! I took it to the Dodge Chrysler dealership after that, and I was told that there was a computer software issue that was supposedly reset but here we are months later and it happened again where the engine seized and I was stalled in the middle of a busy road! my passenger and I are lucky to even be alive after that incident! I noticed that the low oil-pressure light comes on for a half-second when turning a hard corner then goes away. After looking up to see that there is a "current campaign for repairs" I have scheduled an emergency appointment with the dealership service department (why not a recall? this situation is dangerous!) from my research based on information from several sources, it looks like updating/reprogramming the pcm software is not enough to fix the oil consumption issue. This is a faulty engine issue and I need my engine to be replaced to ensure my personal safety in a vehicle that I have owned for less than a year. I have gone into debt just to buy the vehicle, the least Dodge Chrysler Jeep can do is ensure the quality of the product I purchased. The lives of many people are at risk, here. I've read the details of the class action lawsuit.

Engine oil consumption issues.
My vehicle has stalled on the highway 3 times and the transmission is very jerky. The dealer did an oil consumption test and said it is normal for my car to consume 2 quarts of oil every 3000-4000 miles. I have never owned a vehicle that uses this much oil. The oil warning light has never come on indicating g the oil is low.

Oil consumption problem (oil completely empty) the car stalled while driving in the neighborhood. Started acting up and being sluggish while on the highway. No sensor, engine light, or notice to add oil came on. When the car stalled, checked the oil and it was completely empty. Has happened more than once. ,.

My vehicle has been burning oil at an abnormal rate. I have to top it off several times between oil changes. It also runs extremely rough when in drive/reverse, but not moving(stop signs, drive throughs). If I put it into park or neutral, it runs fine. Occasionally, it will stall out when coming to a stop. I've had it at the dealership and they couldn't find an issue. They updated the ecu and tcu, but it didn't resolve it. My vehicle is no longer covered by warranty now.

A couple of times my Jeep Renegade 2018 stalled when I was driving, said something about low oil pressure when I already did an oil change, also said on the dash that the gear shift wasn't working and slow down and stop, I couldn't imagine if I was on the highway that would've been a bad accident. I safely parked, turned off the vehicle and started back up. Took it last year to the dealership they said that was a safety thing and this year October 30th 2020, I took it to check why it kept saying low oil pressure when the oil is new and I wanted to know if was leaking. They said wasn't leaking, that it was burning oil. That shouldn't be happening that the oil is new and less than a month it says low oil pressure.
Excessive oil consumption. Oil changed 8/7/2020, low oil light on 9/4/2020. Oil changed again 9/5/2020 short 4 quarts 10/25/2020. Jeep stalled. No warnings. Battery fine, has gas.
My engine is burning oil. Before I need an oil change my car is showing low oil pressure and results in the engine being cut off when I'm driving. I check the oil gauge and it's at an unsafe level. Two quarts of oil needed to be added to be within the same range. This is not the first time it's happened. Going on the 4 event of consecutive oil changes now.
I bought my Jeep Renegade in August of 2018. Not even a month of driving later (2,000 miles), I was on the side of the highway because the engine stalled and then gave me a low oil pressure warning. When I took the vehicle into the dealership they said it was too early to do an oil change and to come back at 10,000 miles. I had to fill the vehicle with 2 quarts of oil to keep it running. I then ran into the same problem at the 7,000 mile mark where I stalled on the side of the road. The dealership finally did an oil consumption test, and I thought they would see it as a problem that the engine is "consuming" 1 quart per 1,000 miles. However, it is "normal" under the fca guidelines for their engines to consume this amount of oil. I tried to get the dealership to get me out of the vehicle I had just bought, and they told me it wasn't worth very much because it had a bad engine. They would not fix the engine though unless it was consuming more than 1 quart per 1,000 miles. I completed yet another test to find that the oil consumption stayed the same. I was having to fill the oil reservoir in between oil changes in fear that I would stall on the highway again and get hit by a vehicle. There are no warning lights for this issue until after the engine stops. The dealership told me I needed to just check the dipstick everytime I fuel up. This is only a temporary fix as I am filling up with $10 quarts of oil every 1,000 miles and then doing an oil change every 3,000 miles because if I go to the recommended 10,000 miles there will be engine problems. I would like to do my own oil changes, but have been going to the dealership in fear that I would be to blame for the oil consumption issue if I dared to change my own oil. I am currently at 30,000 miles. It appears that Chrysler is avoiding resolving the issue until it comes out of my pocket in 6,000 miles.
Burns 3+ quarts of oil every 2500 miles. When oil gets low it causes the vehicle to stall. I have been sitting in traffic and had my vehicle stall 3 times. I am using full synthetic 0w-20, getting oil changes every 6,000 miles and I still have to put oil in it regularly. It also slams gears around 27-29mph regularly, this may be associated to the oil consumption because I notice it more frequently when the oil is low.
Oil consumption issue uses more oil than I feel it should. No car unless really high mileage should use more than a quart maybe between oil change I've already put in 2. 5 in this oil change.
My 2017 Jeep Renegade burns a tremendous amount of oil. When the oil is too low the car just shuts off while turning or accelerating too fast.
My car is shutting down while driving it. My car just started saying low oil pressure and not even a day later turned off while I was driving it and I was almost rear ended. It did it once more before I was able to get it into the dealership. The dealership told me to do an oil consumption test and bring it back in but I don't think I should have to drive a potentially unsafe car. There is a class action lawsuit against fca from other people experiencing the same problems I am experiencing because fca has known about these issues for years and has done nothing to fix the problem.
While driving down the road my Jeep stalled and shut off on several different occasions. I called the dealership and was told the oil was probably low and to bring it in. Sure enough it was not registering on the dipstick. I got my oil changed and less than 2 months later the Jeep stalled out again. I checked the oil and there was none. I called the dealship and I have an appointment today to start an oil consumption test. I drove less than 4,000 miles between oil changes before I broke down again. The Jeep gives no warning or light indication when this happens. I am thankful I was not driving on the highway causing a serious accident. The Jeep is burning through some serious oil.
Car is burning excessive engine motor oil. Car has stalled several times while driving in congested traffic due directly to low oil. This is a safety concern as well as a defective engine by manufacturer. Problem is pervasive across all Jeep Renegade vehicles. Local dealer is aware of oil issues with engine. Need government intervention to force manufacturer to issue a recall on this know issue.
The engine burns through oil way to fast and creates unnecessary cost. Also it always feels like it's going to shut down when I turn right slowly. Power constantly fluctuates.
Two issues one. The electrical malfunctions and change his settings randomly. To. Oil consumption is hazardous repeatedlyconsuming a quart of oil in just 200 miles. Various mechanics have stated this is a common problem in 2018 Jeep Renegade and requires manufacturer repair.
Engine burns oil to the point to where it is unsafe to operate without constantly adding oil between scheduled oil change intervals. The engine feels like it is gasping for air after coming to a halt and then starting again(stop sign, making a left turn after yielding to oncoming traffic, etc. ). Additionally, the fog light housing on both sides is completed burned and melted. This lead me to believe that there is a wiring issue causing too much power to go to the bulbs or the recommended bulbs may be too hot. The engine issue has been ongoing through all 39,000 miles on it. The fog light housing concern was just discovered on 4/15/2020 however I'm sure the issue was prevalent before hand. Many friends of mine with the same vehicle have also expressed both aforementioned concerns. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.
This is a problem with the 1. 4 turbo engine in my 2015 Jeep Renegade latitude burning engine oil until there is nothing on the dipstick. I usually get an indication on my dash that I have low oil pressure, then I go to the store and buy the euro synthetic oil to top off the oul until I can get to a service station or the dealer for an oil change. The oil change needs to be done evey 3,000 miles or so, or I will be out of oil. The dealer has run some tests and isn't able to locate the problem. It just burns oil and it is, of course, no longer under a warranty. Besides this problem, I have had numerous other weird problems that happen and can not be identified. I think this 2015 Jeep Renegade is a lemon. I bought it used and it was re-certified. Yeah, by idiots? ocassionally the vehicle just stops running, check the oil, and there isn't any on the stick. This has recurred 5 times. The latest being 3//5/20.
Car powers off when driving. It has happened 3 times this week. It shuts off so you can't give it any gas and says on the screen place vehicle in p and hit the start button this happened 3 times this morning and the dealer said it might be oil consumption and I'm now doing a test for that which they said they might have to replace the engine.
The vehicle burns oil causing the vehicle to shutdown without warning. We have the vehicle services regularly, but it burns so much oil we're having issues before it's due for routine oil change. My son was about 30 miles away from home when his vehicle stalled without warning. He also mentioned that at times it would sputter during acceleration. We purchased this vehicle new and currently it has 29,000 miles. We had the vehicle towed under warranty to the dealership and they kept it for over a week before they were able to look at it. I inquired about getting a loaner vehicle since we were down a vehicle and the dealer said all their loaners were out and they will only allow us to have the loaner for 5 days total. So, they said they would contact us when they had a loaner available. We never heard back from them, so my husband called them back 8 days later to inquire about a loaner again, and at that time they said the vehicle was ready; all it needed was oil. So, when we went to pick-up the vehicle they're charging us $189 and this vehicle is still on warranty. The warranty on the Jeep is fraudulent and the dealerships are devious.
I was driving my Jeep Renegade and it just cut off in the middle of me driving for no reason, the only thing that it showed on the dash was you must put your car in park to shift. There were no warning lights or anything. I took it to the Jeep dealer they plugged it in said there are no codes it's fine. I left went across the street to work. When I left I pulled out into traffic and it cutoff. I got it started after a few tries and started on my way to the dealership. When I went to pull in it cutoff again. Service plugs it in, no codes, he wanted me to drive it home and come back in the morning. I'm like it cutoff twice in traffic, your keeping it. He calls this morning says it needs a new motor there wasn't any oil in it. Then he calls back later says Chrysler says I have to do an oil consumption test and that they are designed to cutoff if there is no oil pressure. What if I was going 70 down the interstate and it cutoff. What if my 16 year old daughter was driving it and it cutoff. In looking up problems with this vehicle it is a known fact and happens all the time. How can they sell a vehicle that just shuts off when it feels like it with no warning or warning lights.
Vehicle shut off twice while in motion with no warning. Changed oil at 12000 miles. At 14,500 miles the vehicle flashed a low oil pressure sign and shut off while moving on a 45mph road. It then struggled to restart. Had the vehicle towed to the dealership where they confirmed there was no oil. I am now doing an oil consumption test per the dealership's instructions and the dealership confirmed on the 3rd test (16000 mileage) after 1500 miles that the vehicle burned a quart of oil so far. We are continuing the tests. The vehicle does not warn of low oil or give warning when it is shutting off. It will completely shut off while in motion, leaving the driver to attempt to coast to a safe area. The dash will then read place gear in p and press button to turn on this has occurred twice - the first time that required the oil change at 12000 in November 4, 2019 and the second at 14,500 on December 31, 2019. In summary, the vehicle burned through 5 quarts of oil in a little over 2000 miles and shut off with no warning, and is beginning the process again while being monitored under the dealership.
Engine stalled two times on different occasions while driving. This occurred both times while turning on a city street at an intersection. Vehicle brought to dealership same day of second occurrence. Service department found no oil on dipstick. Oil consumption test being performed at this time.
Had an oil change around 2 months before the issue occured. When pulling out of my drive way the Jeep stopped and shut off. Upon inspection I was low on oil. After adding 3 quarts of oil I found where other people online had similar issues with specifically the 2018 Jeep Renegade 2. 4 liter motor consuming copious amounts of oil. Others had they're Renegades stop while driving down the highway but lucky I was lucky enough to be in my driveway. I have always had an oil change on time and through Jeep as well. I also don't understand how they passed and emissions test while the motor burns that much oil.
Twice now car has just stalled/shut off without warning. Engine light at that time suddenly shows "low engine oil pressure". Taken to dealer twice and oil level low-->oil change done and problem resolved for ~ 3k miles. First time happened around 4-5k miles after oil change, 2nd time happened around 4k after oil change. Oil consumption test at 1k after last oil change shows engine is burning at least 1/2 quart of oil. Dealership states Jeep is stating this is within normal and that I should get oil changed/topped off every 3k miles. This is dangerous and unacceptable that oil consumption is so high that my engine randomly stalls because of low engine oil.
Tl- the contact owns a 2018 jeeo Renegade latitude. The contact stated while his daughter was driving at approximately 35 mph the oil pressure light unexpectedly illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic to check the oil pressure and to refill the oil tank. The dealership was then contacted and informed the contact every 1,000 miles the vehicle needs a quarter of oil because there is an issue that they are working on. The manufacturer confirmed what the dealer said about the oil consumption. The approximate failur was 4,000-5,000 tp.
Car is excessively burning oil. It randomly shuts off going down the road. It has almost caused accidents.
My 2017jeep Renegade burns oil and it has ever since I got it. Well before the scheduled time to get an oil change, the oil runs so low my car will start dying and stalling randomly and then the low oil pressure light will come on. I have taken it for service twice about this same issue and both times the problem was overlooked, I was given an oil change and sent on my way being told it's "normal" for my 2017 vehicle to burn oil. It happened to me again this morning, so I was forced to add two quarts of oil in the middle of the road to get to work. I feel like taking it for servicing will do me no good, as I am not being heard. This is not normal, but nobody with Jeep is listening or acknowledging this issue.
Update to complaint # 11270456 reported on 10/23/19. I called Jeep directly to report the issue and they instructed me not to pick the car. They called dealership directly. They are aware of an "oil consumption issue" with 2016 Renegades which is related to the car stalling/going into neutral and the gear shifting issue. Since they did an oil change on 10/22/19, they want me to put 1,000 miles on the car & bring it back for an oil consumption test. Depending on the results of that test, they may have to replace the engine.
The vehicle loses fuel pressure and burns oil when there is no present oil leak. The vehicle shuts off while in drive causing the wheel to lock.
I was driving my 2016 Jeep Renegade latitude (2. 4 liter) when the vehicle stalled on me. Before it stalled I was stopped in what is referred to as a michigan left. Once traffic was clear I started my turn and as I started to straighten out my wheel, a vehicle in front of me was turning right into a business. I applied my brakes and then started to push the accelerator when I noticed no response. I pushed a little more and realized the engine had shut off. I applied the brake and shifted the vehicle back to park and restarted the engine. There was a gas station near so I headed there. As I was turning right into the gas station (slight inclined driveway) I noticed a quick flash about oil. I parked at a pump and popped the hood to check the oil. To my surprise I was getting very little to nothing on the dip stick. I checked multiple times and it was the same reading. I just had an oil change on July 18, 2019. I hadn't even hit the next service date (5,000-6,000 miles) and there had been no leaks they I had seen under my vehicle or any abnormal exhaust smoke (oil burning) in any of the time driving the vehicle. My vehicle doesn't even have 48,000 miles on it. I have only owned the vehicle since the end of June. This struck me as odd as I have never had any vehicle consume this much oil with out some type of noticeable leak or burning of the oil. There was no warning light prior to this event about oil despite there being little to no reading of oil on the dipstick.
Low oil pressure warning, vehicle had burned up 5qts of oil between oil changes 5000 miles barley any oil on dipstick. Car stalled in intersection as driver accelerated. Vehicle has been serviced regularly and had oil changes before service date and prior to this incident.
My Renegade first gave me issues before the first oil change due date. Just 2 months after purchasing the vehicle brand new, it shut down while driving back from my beach vacation. I was driving 70 mph on interstate 65 and it just completely shut off. I had to coast from the flow of traffic onto the side of the interstate. My 8 year old son was also with me during this first of several dangerous encounters. It took me about 6 or 7 attempts at restarting my car and getting back in traffic before I finally made it safely home that day. Each of those attempts first resulted in the car shutting off and me coasting to the side of the interstate to avoid an accident. Every time my car is close to an oil change, within about 300-500 miles, it experiences the above scenario. It has taken several months to finally find the pattern and realize the problem. The problem is that the engine is burning an excessive amount of oil, running the car low on oil, and then the safety feature shuts off the car completely. This happens without any type of warning; no lights or any type of signal. This summer, I had to complete an oil consumption test on my vehicle. This consisted of me driving to the dealership every 1,000 miles for them to check my oil, chart how much it used, and fill it back up with oil. The distance from my house to the dealership is 35 miles; quickest route being a 46 minute drive. I had to repeat this process 5 total times. At the end of the 5,000 miles I was told by my service technician (allan) that I missed the cut off for receiving a new engine by about quart of oil. He also expressed that his personal opinion may be different, but that the standard/guidelines was what he had to go by for diagnosing the results.
I was driving when all of a sudden my car started losing power. The display read "put car in desired drive mode" and then changed to "low oil pressure". At this point my car was stopped in the middle of the road. I could shift gears but it did nothing to resolve the problem. I pressed the start/stop ignition to completely shut off my car. I gave it a minute before trying to start it again. Even when I attempted to start the car it took a bit to get it to turn over. It had been just over 2 months since my last oil change so I thought that it was odd that I had low oil pressure. I made an appointment at my local dealership. After inspecting my car they noticed that I had no oil in my car. The mechanic that pulled the dipstick said it was smoking when he pulled it out because it was so dry. They did an oil change and told me that the 2. 4l engines in the 2017 Renegade tend to burn oil faster than other engine models. I was told to come back in 500 miles so that they could check my oil. Fast forward 2 weeks and I hit 500 miles. I made my appointment and took my car into the dealership. They checked my engine and ran a consumption test. In 500 miles I burned through 2quarts of oil. My Renegade made it to 27,600 miles before this issue. I was being told that I would get a new motor. They had my car for about 5 days and I now have a new motor. But it is still a 2. 4l, so what is to say this won't happen again? this is the second Chrysler product that I had to get a new motor before 30,000 miles due to a factory defect. The other was for a 2013 Dodge dart. I no longer trust Chrysler products.
