Jeep Renegade owners have reported 35 problems related to radiator (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
My car's radiator fan started rattling and after looking further into the issue, I found endless sources of owners of the same car as me that have had the same issue. If not diligently acknowledged and fixed, the radiator fan motor will eventually go out. This has caused smoking and flames and catastrophic engine damage. The sound happens when my car is idling and stopped in first gear. To avoid these costly and dangerous effects of when the radiator fan motor does fail, I have been unable to drive my car. Class action lawsuit case 2:19-cv-10417-nge-eas has been filed, but no further updates have been released.

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Renegade. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, there was gray smoke coming from under the hood and inside the vehicle from the vents while the temperature gage warning light illuminated. The contact mentioned that the vehicle stalled and was able to restart. The contact stated that the smoke extinguished independently. In addition, after coolant was poured into the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated continuously. The vehicle was taken to cross Chrysler Jeep fiat (1501 gardiner ln, louisville, ky 40218) where it was diagnosed that the radiator coolant fan assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage 50,000.
Check engine light randomly comes on at higher speeds on the freeway and then goes back off. Last time it was on, went to repair shop and had it hooked up to the dialysis machine and it stated that the thermostat needed replacing. But the check engine light never stays on. After I stop the car and restart it, it's off. It also randomly lurches forward or shakes while in drive or parked. I've already had to replace the radiator fan which kept blowing fuses due to the fan going off track and getting stuck. I thought that fixed the jumping, but it still occurs. Just less often. My mysky panel engine is also broken and will not open. Starts to open, then closes or stops completely after only an inch or two of opening.
Radiator fan.
Radiator fan failed at 53,000 miles resulting in the engine overheating. Vehicle has been maintained as per manufacturer requirements.
The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Renegade. While driving 30 mph, the contact noticed that the air conditioner blew hot air. The contact's son attempted to loosen something in the radiator and the engine overheated, the coolant bubbled up, and the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact scheduled an appointment with an independent mechanic on June 17, 2019. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000.
The engine on my 2016 Renegade with only 32000 miles on it began making a loud knocking sound while idling. After researching online, I determined it was most likely the radiator fan that had either come loose or was bent. It appears that this is an extremely common problem with this make and model due to the multiple online complaints. Of course it happens right past the original warrant expiration so that it is not covered. The cost to fix this was $620 and they had to replace my whole fan assembly.
My radiator fan is making a noise and I don't believe is functioning properly which is causing my Jeep to run hot. My engine smells like burned rubber underneath the hood. The noise occurs when my vehicle is idle.
My 2016 Jeep Renegade radiator fan assembly is shot. Stopped working when I was idling on my way home. It is almost $1000 to fix and I can not safely drive my vehicle. It is only two years old. It has 45k miles. Online there is a ton of people complaining about this same issue, particularly in the 2016 Jeeps. I want to urge you to investigate this car and company to do the right thing and cover the cost of the repairs.
Around 40000 miles, the car began making a rattling noise under the hood and a burning smell was noticed. Shortly thereafter, the check engine light came on. We took it to our mechanic and the code indicated that the radiator fan had failed, making the car unsafe to drive. I find it highly indicative of a faulty and dangerous part for a radiator fan to fail so quickly. The large number of complaints for the same issue confirmed this, the part was defective and is replaced by Jeep with a better one, but at the cost of the owner. I find this highly negligent, Jeep should be replacing this part for free ad part of a recall, as they clearly know it was an inferior part.

Bought my Jeep brand new 2015 Jeep Renegade in October 7,2015. My radiator fan is not working and the car is starting to over heat. At first kept hearing a loose dragging noise before leaving to the store from my house and I poped the hood open of my car and I saw the fan not working to cool the car down when the temperature of the car was going up. So I called the dealer to make an appointment for Monday for them to check out the cars issue. My car only has 31,000 miles. I have also taken my Jeep to the dealer this same year for them to replace the thermostat. My check engine light is now on. This should be recalled it's not safe and it's dangerous for any vehicle to operate with any malfunction in the engine compartment especially for a brand new car not even 5 years and the radiator fan is already broken.
The radiator fan is wobbling and causing a rattling noise. This is a known issue among other Renegade owners. It may catch on fire or rupture the radiator. It will certainly lead to overheating if it isn't replaced.
I went out to pick up dinner. I left the vehicle running when I went into the restaurant, came out two minutes later and noticed a really weird rattling/revving sound coming from under the hood. I popped the hood and the whole radiator fan and housing was wobbling and had a terrible electrical fire smell. I was thankfully able to get home, which was only five minutes away, but as soon as I got in the driveway the message "service engine" came onto the screen. I popped the hood again and the fan locked up and is no longer spinning. I see I'm not the first with this issue. . . Can we please get a recall?this is very dangerous.
My electric radiator fan is wobbling at only 32,000 miles on the car and it's make a hitting noise from it.
My radiator fan went out at 50,000 miles therefore out of warranty. I had noticed a few times that I would hear a noise coming from the engine, I took it to the shop and they saw no issues. Fast forward 4 months and I was sitting in traffic and my car began to overheat. I was informed that this is an ongoing issue and that I should submit a complaint to hopefully get a recall on this as I paid a significant amount of money to fix it .
Radiator fan is loose and is making loud noises. Done research and have seen this is a very common problem with 2016 Jeep Renegade. It has now caused the check engine light to come on.
The radiator fan is causing the vehicle to overheat. It is breaking due to not having a heat shield on it and it is causing the vehicle to overheat. Jeep fixes the problems in the late 2016 models by putting in a metal fan and took out the plastic fan. Fear of Renegade catching fire. Vehicle overheats in the parking lot.
Radiator fan is failing at 20,000 miles not not keeping the radiator and engine cool. This occurs while driving and idling. Jeep has this part on back order with no eta. I was told that it could be weeks before the part arrives. I have been made aware that many other Jeep Renegade owners are experiencing this problem, as well as the long delay for the part to arrive. However, there is no recall that has been issued. I have a rental car that I am paying out of pocket for with no assistance from Jeep.
This car is eventually going to kill someone. The accelerator chooses when to work. My car has 35000 miles on it and when I am turning or on the highway or just driving normally, pressing down on the accelerator it has a two to three second delay before it will engage. The dealerships won't help me and it has almost caused me to get into numerous accidents with my three year old son in the car! many people are having the same issue. Also as of today I am having to replace the radiator fan for the third time. It has burned up twice before! how unfair to buy a new car and have to have these outrageous expenses and safety issues!!! this has to be fixed.
When I would get out of my vehicle with it on I could hear a raddling noise coming from the front of my Jeep. When I checked it out my radiator fan would wobbling when it spins. My Jeep only has 31,000 miles in it.
I have a 2016 Jeep Renegade that I bought brand new. It has 45,000 miles and when my girlfriend was driving to get some lunch from work and the car started overheating. Now I have realized the issue is that the radiator fan has stopped working. After doing some research I have learned that this is a nation wide problem effecting many people.
The radiator fan has gone out for the third time and the part is on national recall. The fan was first replaced at about 38,000 miles after failing. The part failed again at about 67,000 miles. I took to the dealership and, after several days, was informed that the part was on national backorder and that they could not guarantee that I would receive a part in the next shipment in about a week and they did not know when more would be available. This is my only car. I found a universal fan that was compatible and had it installed in early September. Yesterday, the fan failed again and wiring leading to fan has melted. Parts are still on national back order. The first time the part failed (previous report filed), I was driving at about 35 mph. The second time was on the highway and the third time, the car was in park and idling and had been for about 10 minutes.
I bought this car a year a ago. It is still under warrenty. The radiator is messed up and car is over heated. It shows check engine light. But dealership is saying it could take them months . Why do not they recall all the cars??.
My Jeep Renegade began over heating due to the radiator fan failure. My vehicle isnunder warranty at 20,276 miles . The parts are backordered for months and am not being offered a loaner or getting true responses from Jeep only generic we are sorry for your struggles of being a family of 5 with different work schedules . Cheerand band etc. There must be a recall to save other owners with this issue and ones that will arise.

VIN # zaccjabhxfpc24219. Bought brand new 2015 Jeep Renegade latitude 2wd. Brought Jeep into Jeep dealer in poway, CA. , due to empty radiator reservoir & clutch smoking issues. Jeep in poway, CA told me everything was fine. Brought Jeep in for the second time at the Jeep dealer in poway, CA due to empty coolant reservoir again & Jeep replace reservoir. Brought Jeep in a 3rd. Time in poway, CA & Jeep dealer replaced freeze plug & water pump. Brought Jeep into poway, CA Jeep dealer a 4th. Time & dealer replaced long block & clutch. All of this was within 23,000 miles. Told Jeep poway, CA. On 9/4/17 that the clutch still has a smoking issue & they told me it was driver error even though they admitted to me the clutch used on the Renegade is not that great of quality! the clutch smoking is a safety issue.
I was driving and started to smell burn rubber. Then the engine light came on. I took the car into the shop. The dealership said the radiator fan assembly seized up and will not rotate any longer. Apparently, this is a problem with Renegades and the parts are on national back order. No eta was given for when there would be parts available.
The radiator fan is messing up. Moving around in the engine and not working most of the time. The temps in the engine are going higher than they should beucase the fan is failing.
At just under 48k miles, radiator fan gave out. Under normal driving conditions on a city street, the ac began to blow outside temperature air and service engine lights came on. Troubleshooting the following day revealed that the fan was no longer working and engine risked overheating. Seems to be a continuously reoccurring issue since the part is on back order for 4 months for the 2. 4l 9-speed Renegade.
Radiator fan motor burned out. Cause the engine to over heat, created smoke condition and failure of all systems. Car needed to be towed to dealer. Parts are back ordered. Internet comments indicate this has become a common problem with this vehicle.
One problem I dealt with was a crack on my front windshield from top to bottom, dealership ship had me back and forth with this ! it doesn't show that something hit it , the other problem is the radio turn off with out me able to turn it back on with everything else going off after that . Meaning I couldn't tell the speed I was going as I was driving , gas level , anything else . After it turn back on the emergency break goes off and I'm on the freeway and almost cost a serous crash. The last this that happen on Saturday 6/17/2017 was the same thing with the radio going off and ac not working at all and over heating. Turn off my car and it was leaking from the radiator. Second time I seen it over heat and low on the radiator. I have complain many times to the dealership ship about electronic problems and the emergency break setting off when I'm on the freeway . The front windshield I complain since I got my car . All they did was have me back and forth with it . Also the back set seatbelt sit belts sometimes lock where you can't put it on or it's stuck .
The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Renegade. The contact noticed smoke underneath the hood of the vehicle. The contact had to turn off the vehicle and allow it to cool off and the smoke to dissipate. The failure recurred when the vehicle was restarted. The contact took the vehicle to the putnam Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealer (3 California dr, burlingame, CA 94010; 650-558-5612) where it was diagnosed that the radiator fan failed.
