Engine warning light came on upon starting vehicle. Checked all fluids, and that gas cap was tight. Contacted dealership who said to drive it for a few days to see if light remained on. Indicator light went off several days later. My engine is now exhibiting what sounds like a stuck lifter and Chrysler is refusing to honor the warranty on the lifetime powertrain warranty. I also had a steering dampner fail on the vehicle at 32k miles which Chrysler made me pay half for fixing.
In reference to tipm recall. While driving, the horn will blow nonstop, as well as windshield wipers engage, fluid sprays nonstop onto windshield, a/c will not blow, engine has shut off spontaneously which caused a truck to lightly bump me in an intersection. Selling dealership (hebert's town and country shreveport, la) will not fix. . Read more...
Everything is normal and working, you try to start the car and there is a click then nothing. I then move the shifter to neutral and start the car then move shifter back to park. There are no codes being registered if you plug in a diagnostic machine and I've had several competent mechanics check it out to no avail. This is happening . To many other people and isn't an isolated incident, which is why I'm reporting it. It appears to be an electrical issue, a grounding issue to be specific.
I was leaving home at 6:00am to go to work and the small red light for engine problems came on. Then the low tire pressure light came on, then went off and so did the red light. There is nothing I could do at that time of the morning so I limped to work, 25 miles of on/off/on/off/on gets to you. I called the dealer and they said to bring it in. I did and they couldn't find anything wrong with it and couldn't make the light come back on. Over the next couple of months, the red light would come on but not the tire light. What is wrong with my Jeep? if the light doesn't come on, they can't fix it??? it doesn't come on by command. And it is still coming on/off/on/off.
Driving in beach dune area in oregon (had arrived maybe 10 minutes earlier). Smelled something burning and car burned to the ground. No overheating of engine coolant but hot oil and other lights flickered before shutting engine off. Got out of vehicle, looked under hood and wire harness along firewall was on fire and flames coming from that and between engine and firewall. Tried to suppress fire but was unsuccessful. Car a total loss - burned to the ground.
Tl - the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where he was advised that there was a leak on the surface of the engine. The contact called the manufacturer regarding the engine leak and the manufacturer stated that there was nothing they could do because the vehicle was not under warranty. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a second diagnostic test which determined that the front crankshaft seal would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000. The current mileage was 85,000. Kmj.
I was driving my 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited on state route 23 northbound just outside of milan michigan when I began to notice a sputtering of the engine. I started to slow down to pull over and it stopped. As I accelerated back to speed I could feel it again. I pulled off the interstate onto the cone azail road exit as I slowed down the engine started to run fine again. I entered back onto the highway and as pick up speed it started sputtering I finally pulled over and as I was reaching to open the hood a flame shot out. With in minutes my vehicle was completely engulfed in flames. It happened so fast I was unable to recover anything out of the vehicle safely. When contacting Chrysler regarding this incident they told me to take it up with my insurance company and that they would not cover any damages.
On occasion my Jeep will not crank. The key will turn on, dashboard lights will come on, but just will not crank. The battery has been checked and is good. After several tries it will finally crank. This occurs at no certain time of day. It sometimes has happened 3 days in a row. Other times a week will pass before it happens again.
I put in a new battery in my car at the dealer and it corroded again. They told me they forgot to spray it. I have had cars for 6 years and the battery never corroded. I feel there is something wrong someplace and the dealer is not being honest with me.
My 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited has the problem of randomly not wanting to start. It gives me an initial click then nothing. I always end up getting it to start by letting it roll back a foot then start it. It seems to work. Other times it just randomly starts after numerous times. Don't know if this is coincidence or not. It is at the dealership now. Also have the problem of the gas tank not shutting off, and gas over flows over and outside the tank. Never will buy another Jeep! I have been driving them for 13 years and this is my last!.
The complaint is how Chrysler corp. Is addressing the j30 recall. Transmission overheating causing engine fires. I own a 2008 Wrangler that cost 50k. For the j30 recall fix they are adding a hot oil icon on the dash and flash the computer to recognize a sensor. The engine can still catch fire. Someone needs to force Chrysler to add a new transmission cooler to cool the fluid, and prevent the oil from boiling. I was told by the dealer engine fires can happen in city traffic starting and stopping. They also informed me that they could sell me one at $500 with two hours of labor at $110 per hr. If this is a recall, due to faulty engineering, then why does the customer have to pay to fix the recall ??? I am writing this before there is property and or personal damage. Hopefully, someone in NHTSA can help with the way Chrysler is handling this particular recall.
Vehicle engine started to make so much noise, shut off car and called for tow truck. Vehicle was towed to white plains Chrysler.
I owned a 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited, in 2010 the Jeep started not wanting to crank off and on, of course when it was in the shop it would crank everytime, except the last visit it had and was there almost 2 weeks then they were doing the process of elimination still not knowing what to do. I contacted chrylser's corp. Office many times, they even provided me a rental car on one of the times the Jeep was in the shop, this Jeep stayed in the shop more then in my yard in 2010. The last visit was all I could handle, chrylser corp was not going to help me anymore, they simple did not care, the service dept. 's that the Jeep was at they tried everything they thought possible, battery was good, so they changed out the battery cables said it was fixed, within a week same thing happens, I take it back, they replace the starter said that was the issue, needless to say within 2 weeks I was back with the same problem, the last time they said this might fix the Jeep, if not, bring it back we will try something else, experiment I guess. I once again contacted chrylser corp. Office was treated as though I was a problem to them, I told them I was just giving up and trading the Jeep in, which was one of thte hardest decisions that I have made, I loved my Jeep, but the lemon that I had was just too much to keep paying for and catching rides to work since the Jeep was in the shop all those times except the one time they paid for rental. I have traded the Jeep but I still follow the concerns and see now, I was not the only one with the problem, of course, too late my Jeep is gone now.
Purchased the car brand new in 2008. Approximately two years later , I began having problems with the car starting. Put the key in the ignition, turn it and you hear a click. Initially, it seemed to occur sporadically normally after it rained . Now, the problem occurs more frequently (daily) absent any rain. I've replaced the battery, alternator and starter to no avail. I also took the car to a Jeep dealer to no avail .
Jeep caught fire with out warning.
Have you had any investigations or experiences with fires in these new 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited models? these are the popular new 4-door models. There are a slew of videos and reports on the internet, but I'm having trouble identifying a common thread between them. Thanks, jay from NHTSA web site. Updated 01/30/09.
