Steering Column problems of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler

Five problems related to steering column have been reported for the 2019 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2020

While driving on the highway at approximately 70 mph, the Jeep began to shake (wabble) violently. The steering column became hard to control due to the shaking of the Jeep. Slowing down did not seem to help so I pulled off the freeway and came to a complete stop. This alleviated the issue temporarily. However, the shaking/wabble occurred 6 more times during my 200-mile trip. I took my Jeep into the dealer to get fixed and waited 3 weeks for the part to come in. During this time, the wabble happened twice at freeway speeds (65 mph+). Both times, I had to pull off the freeway and come to a complete stop to remedy the issue. My servicing dealer replaced the steering dampener as they said that was the issue. Unfortunately, at freeway speed, I encountered the shaking/wabble again. Speeds of 50 mph or less do not seem to trigger the shaking, but it occurs intermittently at speeds over 50 mph. As long as I am in the slow lane with room to exit the road, it is safe to drive. However, it is a huge safety issue if there is no way to exit the roadway when it occurs as the only way to stop the shaking is to come to a complete stop.

2 Steering Column problem

The car have multiple defective parts including steering column control module, console shift module. The car have a hard time shifting in to appropriate gear. Those defective parts cause abs to fail. Wheels keep getting locked when breaking, leads to increased breaking distance.

4 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2019

Steering wobbles and drifts violently at speeds over 60 mph on the highway. There has also been a water leak under the drivers side steering column that twice now the dealer has not been able to fix, all wiring under the steering wheel is wet after a rain as well as puddles of water on floor mat. This car is a lemon.

5 Steering Column problem

Failure Date: 03/06/2019

Play in steering wheel of 0. 75 inch to each side. Jeep tried to fix issue by installing an upgraded track bar, steering damper and intermediate steering column shaft. Issue improved to 0. 75 inches of play to each side from about 1 inch to each side. Steering play mainly noticable at highway speeds over 60 mph. Constant correction is required to stay in lane. Issue is really significant on windy days since over correction is likely. I had a situation passing two trucks in the middle lane and I could hardly manage the turbulence and not hitting one of the trucks. My daughter is not driving the the Wrangler since she feels not save. My wife and I getting tired driving really quickly. Jeep has no solution and the dealer says that there is no fix. If I move the steering wheel by . 75 inches the steering column turns , the link to the steering gearbox turns but the output arm of the steering gearbox is not moving.
