While driving on a canyon road at around 50 mph the jk Wrangler stopped responding. All the lights on the dash came on. The transmission felt like it went into neutral, but the engine did not stall. The problem lasted for 3-4 seconds before self correcting. I was on a straight stretch of road , and the vehicle was lined up well so there was not a crash.

Engine died @ 65 mph,and at other times at stop lights and while driving on off road trail. Trans didn't upshift while trying to merge on hiway and while attempting to pass other vehicles. Dealer said there wasn't anything wrong with vehicle.
Received letter from manufacturer safety recall e14. Scheduled appointment with dealer where vehicle was purchased. Vehicle was at the dealers at 8:30 am on day of appointment. Went to pick up at 4:30 pm (on a Friday) and was informed that they never got around to fixing it. "too busy". I wasted an entire day and someone's else's time getting the car to the dealer and back. No time was given as to when they would fix this problem and I left the dealer. I want this on record in case sometimes does happen with vehicle that causes damage, injury or possibly death. Vehicle is a Jeep Wrangler VIN # lj4fa9s95p316220. Dealer: galeana Chrysler Jeep, 14735 s. Tamiami trail, fort myers, FL 33912. Ph 239-481-2600.

Unintended acceleration / engine flare. Can be anticipated and vehicle movement prevented in 2 wheel drive, high range but will overpower brakes when in 4 wheel drive , low range. Occurrence not consistent or repeatable on demand but is frequent. Can occur with application (or release) of power brake, turning of steering wheel (power steering) or air condition cycling. When this happens in technical trail maneuvers (off road conditions in treacherous terrain) or in close proximity to trees, large rocks, abrupt drop-offs along road, the results are potentially deadly. No corrective action can be taken by any, non factory representative as this is a programming issue with the vehicle computer. This vehicle is not unique. The "dealer" is unable to reproduce the symptom.

Problem no. 1: my 2004 Jeep Wrangler unlimited has had a steering and wheel vibration problem since I purchased it brand new it in July 2004 from parrish Jeep in fairfax, va. The problem continues to get worst. The wheels and steering vibrate abruptly between 45 - 60 miles mph. I have to hold the steering wheel with 2 hands to attempt to safely drive my Jeep. As of August 2004, I have taken it to 2 virginia Jeep dealerships for the vibration problem on several occasions, in which the problem was witnessed and noted. Although the problem was witnessed by the Jeep dealership, I was told I had to provide proof of my vehicle services, which I did. Parrish Jeep has copies of all of them. After contacting Jeep customer service, which just told me to continue to call the dealership, I was finally told in December 2005 by the dealership that I had to bring my Jeep in to the dealership again for a Jeep engineer to test drive and diagnose. The service manager informed me that he believed the tires to be faulty, but now they were concerned about the mileage on my Jeep. I reminded him that the receipts show that I have complained of this problem when I initially brought the vehicle new in 2004. So, now I have been waiting over one month for a call to have the Jeep engineer review the problem. This is my 3rd Jeep that I have owned, in addition to the 2 that my family members have owned because of my recommendation, and I have never had this problem before. This may be my and my family members' last time to buy Jeep products due to safety and lack of customer service. Problem no. 2: the transmission jerks as I come to a stop. This jerking happens after I have driven the vehicle and it has warmed up. This problem was noted as of the summer 2005. I have taken it in to the same 2 va dealerships, but the problem has not been resolved. The computer was checked and I was told that all updates had been made. However, the jerking is still persisted.
Harsh shifting from 2nd into first on my automatic transmission.

Motor rattles going from 3rd to 4th in the 4l automatic engine.
After starting the vehicle, placing it in drive it will go a few feet and then it won't move. The dealer is unable to find the defect.
Each time the car was put into reverse when backing out of garage or parking lot, the automatic transmission would abruptly jump into reverse gear with a very loud and abrupt motion. If you did not have your foot on brake when you put it in gear, car would leap backwards. Dealer found a leaking valve base gasket in the transmission, which he replaced. Car has been fine since, with no further problems with the transmission.

Persistent leak problems since Jeep was 6 months old. Return to dealer over 5 times before noticeable leaks stopped (behind dash board, floor at drivers and a passenger side) fix under originally warranty. 4 new leaks and return of two old leaks - not covered by extended warranty now dealer wants $650 to fix. Additionally have numerous transmission problems and paint rusting problems since a month after I purchase the vehicle.
I bought my 1997 Jeep Wrangler in June, 2002 from a used car dealer in baltimore, MD with an as-is warranty and was told the vehicle had passed inspection and was in good condition. It had 64,000 miles on it and appeared to be good. Since then I have had nothing but problems with this Jeep. First the wiring harness, then the transmission, now a diagnosis to replace the intake and exhaust manifold, replaced fuel pump and has a faulty fuel gauge, and possibly the stabilizer bar or steering components. This Jeep is costing me more in repairs than the actual value of it. I fear that it is unsafe and that I m facing more expenses if I keep it, but I am still making payments on it. Do I have any recourse as far as lemon law protection, recalls, help!!! I don't know what to do with it.

I have an automatic transmission in this Jeep. It would not shift into 3rd geer. It has never been used off road. Its my daughters car. She uses it to go to college and back home.
When putting vehicle in park after about 2 minutes it will go into reverse, but the lever is still in park. Consumer has yet to contact dealer. At times the car will go into neutral, but the lever is still in park. The head lights also short out at times. I have to move the blinker handle to get them on again.
While driving could pass third gear then transmission will pop out to neutral. Had happened many times, and had taken vehicle to be fixed. But, dealer could not find what was causing this problem.

Gear shift froze in fifth gear pulled gear shift from transmission and couldn't shift into different gear. The fifth gear is now sitting in my closet. New part has been installed, now my check engine light is on due to faulty 4th cylinder ejecter. Dealer said all my valves needed to be replaced for $1400. 00 gave him the finger and said nice try!.
See attached letter to daimerchrysler - will be sent via mail. No safety defect listed.
Dealer built transmission 2 times and it's going in fore the 3rd time on9/11/01 whats the problem ( Chrysler ?).
While driving 25mph shifted vehicle to 2nd gear from 1stgear. Put vehicle in 4-wheel drive, and in between shifting, vehicle jumped out of 4-wheel drive and shifted into 2nd gear. Applied gas, and vehicle went sideways. Slid down road into a ditch and hit telephone pole. Had tried to back up, and noticed vehicle was not in 4-wheel drive. Sometimes later had placed vehicle in 4-wheel drive, and due to snow it failed to go into 4-wheel drive mode. Checked under vehicle and noticed snow/ice had built up on skip plate. Cleared skip plate and was able to put it into 4-wheel drive.
Consumer put vehicle in drive & it went into reverse. Dealer replaced the master cylinger because while braking pedal went to floor, consumer later heard a noise while braking, dealer lubricated and adjusted rear drums. Rear glass was chipped and was replaced.
Warped front rotors replaced twice in 9000 miles transmission very hard to shift grinds gears.
1. The transmission has started jumping in and out of 3rd gear in the 32 to 50 mph range. Bubbles are present in the fluid indicating a seal is failing. Repair estimate at this time is over $1000. This failure in snowy driving conditions causes vehicle control problems. 2. Passenger seat belt retracts intermittently. The passenger will lean forward and back may not notice the seatbelt has not retracted. This can certainly cause serious injury or death in the event of an accident. 3. Sudden acceleration at idle. Vehicle idle will jump from 1. 5k to 3k without warning. Obviously a serious safety hazard. 4. Anti-sway bar link failure. This is perhaps the most insidious failure. The stabilizer bar link ball will corrode in the socket and cause it to separate. The rubber boot around it covers the failure. When an emergency turn is required, the Jeep will sway violently. I talked to the Chrysler parts attendant and he said he sells about 12 a week to those lucky enough to notice the failure. For those who do not notice this, it is a time bomb. The parts attendant told me I would be back soon to replace more. What he said is true.
Driving in 5th gear attempted to downshift for stoplight, was able to get into neutral, but was unable to shift into any gear. Was stranded in the middle of busy intersection unable to move.
First off, my airbag light would come on and then the gauges would shut down. I took the Jeep in once, they said they didn't see any problems and couldn't fix it if they didn't see it. Next, I was driving the Jeep, had stopped to get gas, then started to drive and suddenly, the Jeep no longer would move. There was a horrible smell, and I had to have the vehicle towed at 9 p. M, 6 hours from home. The vehicle is still in the shop, and I don't know when they'll be through with it!!.
On 09/07/99 as my Jeep Wrangler was parked in the parking lot of my bank it proceeded to roll backwards out of the parking lot, across a busy street, and into a canal ( ditch). It landed on its right side and was submersed. It took two tow trucks and 3 hours to pull it out. Once at the Jeep dealership they investigated to see what had happened. They came to the conclusion that it was the gear shift ( which had been in the parked position) but never gave any specifics. My insurance and I ended up paying a total of about $9,000 dollars. The repairs took a month and a half, in which my insurance paid for a rental car. When I asked about having the powertrain investigated by an outside mechanic they offered to "sell" it to me for $1000 dollars. I filed a complaint with the manufacturer shortly thereafter, and never to this day have received a reply. After reading the artcile in the newspaper today about the defects in the grand cherokees it made me think about my Jeep and what happened to me. The situations with others was exactly like my experience except that no one was injured. Please investigate the Wranglers years 1995-1999 also for similar accidents. That Jeep was my first vechicle after graduating college, I had always wanted one. It was the first and will be the last Jeep I ever own after that horrible experience. I am just so thankful that no one was injured.
I took the Jeep last year to get the rattle fixed. They fixed it, but on the 1/12/02 I took it back for the same rattle. I don't believe they fixed it, just tightened the linkage up. My wife and I spent 7 hours at landers without anyone contacting us about what the problem was. They also broke a bolt off in the block that holds the exhaust manifold on, again we weren't informed. Our warrenty covered the exhaust problem, but landers said that the linkage wasn't covered even though they had worked on the linkage less than a year ago. They are supposed to cover any repairs they make for a year, but they didn't honor this. We spent 7 hours waiting for the Jeep to be repaired. They offered us a rental to get us home, but didn't offer any gas money or anything for our incovience about driving 150 miles (one way). I'm a gunsmith and make $30 a hour and I was away from my work for 20 hours because of landers not informing me of how long the repairs would take. Now I'm behind with my work and having to work16 hours a day to catch up. I would like some comp. For my time lost. Also my wife went with me to landers and sat through their lies, and she lost work time also. Landers is supposed to have a five star rating toward their customers. We were treated like unwanted step-children. Landers didn't offer to supply us with transport to go get something to eat, inform us of the problems with our Jeep, and charged us 69. 97 for labor and 24. 97 for parts, that shouldn't have worn out after 27,100 miles unless they damaged when they 'fixed' the linkages the first time. I know I'm not improtant to them, but I believe they destroyed the bushings the first time they worked on them, and broke the manifold bolt trying to tighten it down causing them to have to pull the head off the motor head off the engine to get to.
Automatic transmission, in 4wd, disengaged while climbing steep hill. The engine reved up then the tranmission re-engaged. This occured while transmission fluid was full to the upper mark. Problem did not occur when transmission fluid was over filled.
