1 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2016 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/28/2020

Upon my first start of the day (cold start) my Jeep starts no issue at all both remote start and standard ignition. When I put my Jeep into reverse, the rpm's drop and the Jeep shutters and then stalls. Sometimes it does a hard shutter low idle and can stay alive but usually stalls. Dealer says they can't find the issue but I have found several forums that say it's the torque converter. Please help.

2 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2016 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/27/2020

Torque convertor stalls engine and shutters when cold. Start the engine, try to put in gear and it either stalls or makes the entire Jeep shudder. The Jeep has to be completely warmed up before putting into gear or it stalls/shudders. It has stalled once when going to a stop and I had no power anything (steering, abs. . . ) and ended up in the intersection. Warranty person went to dealer and denied repair work. I have on video (several times) that it stalls/shudders. This is a known issue from the several mechanics (not just my dealer) that I have spoke to. My dealership where I get all repairs has it on record of stalling/shuddering when I left it there to try getting the repairs. Unable to upload videos here to show what it does.

3 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2016 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/11/2019

When it is cold outside, only first thing in the morning, and I attempt to place the vehicle in reverse, it stalls out. On some occasions the rmp's will drop but it won't actually stall out. This problem is all over this site and all over the Jeep forum. It is the torque converter, this was replaced in my vehicle. It took two different trips, to two different dealerships for them to diagnosis and fix the problem as it is intermittent. I am unsure why this is not a recall as so many Jeep owners appear to have this same problem.

Drive train vibration most noticeable between 59 - 64 mph. Vibration in steering wheel, driver and passenger front seats, floor pans. 10/3 - 10/8/18 dealer inspected entire vehicle, balanced, road force tested tires found all within spec and balanced with no indexing required. In addition to extensive road testing, evaluation, the service department temporarily replaced 2018 jlu rubicon wheels/tires with wheels/road friendly tires from other Wrangler model and drive train vibration was still present. Dealer service shop foreman indicated transmission, torque converter or drive shaft out of balance but needed guidance from Chrysler engineering on next steps and proposed resolution. Met with Chrysler engineering at dealership service department 10/22/18 and Chrysler engineer stated it's the tires and after another balance and road force test informed me everything was within specifications and they rotated tires front to back. No changes to problem and vibration still exists. I've had the tires/wheels balanced and road force tested by an independent 3rd party and now twice by the dealership. 10 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/22/2009

While driving on paved roads at speeds of 35 mph or less in a local park, a loud chime began to sound with no corresponding indicator light. I pulled over and shut the engine off, waited a few seconds, restarted the engine, the chime was not sounding, so I drove home. Once on the highway, the torque converter would not lock up properly and continued to slip for several miles until normal operation resumed. After checking everything once home, it appears that the chime was indicating the transmission was overheating, explaining the malfunction of the torque converter. I have read of others having similar experiences. I need to stress that this over heating occurred under normal operating conditions. Updated 05/24/jb.

11 Automatic Transmission Torque Converter problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/13/2008

Whilst driving at 65mph the vehicle began to vibrate violently and become uncontrollable. Almost like it was bouncing from tire to tire. Came to a stop and turned off the engine. Took the vehicle to the dealership and was told they have recognized the problem and fixed it. I was told it was a problem with the torque converter. This occurred around 14000 miles. Since it was "fixed" I have had problems with the transmission and went back to the dealership who could not find a problem. The initial problem occurred again at around 16,000 miles the vehicle becomes uncontrollable due to the violent shaking. This is a serious safety issue.
