Failure Date: 03/06/2008

Driving a rental Jeep in kauai, hit a small bump in road - the Jeep went into a violent shimmy - would not stop until the vehicle came to a complete stop - then it behaved normal - this happened about 2 times on the 3rd day of the rental period and another 5 times over the 8 day rental period - should have requested a new Jeep the first time it happened - the last day it happened 3 times on the way to the airport - my wife and kids were extremely upset - lost control of vehicle and almost was in a head on collision - ended up parking on the side of the road and called a taxi - I understand this is a common problem in Jeeps - someone is going to get killed if Jeep does not figure out what is going on and how to fix this problem -.

6 Axle Assembly problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/11/2003

I driving my Jeep and was hit on the drivers side by a mercedes that was moving 35mph. I watch the whole scene coming through my front soft top glass window. My face hit the soft top window and broke my nose pretty bad according to dr. Charles shaffer (my surgieon). By the way the soft top and upper door halfs were the factory equipped "willy's edition" model specific which are supplied to dailmer Chrysler by hertz. Blood was everywhere and took 3 hours to completely stop the bleeding. I was wearing my seat belt by the way. I had to have surgery to my nose and several follow up sessions. I feel very lucky that it was a mercedes that hit me because they are able to crush very well. His vehicle was totaled and had neck pain and I drove home with a broke nose, bent rear axle shaft (bend was outside of the axle bearing, which makes one of my rear brakes useless), damaged factory rocker panel (willy's edition model specific), damaged body, rear fender flare, I also had to straighten and reweld the body mount that tore off the frame( there are 3 body mounting points that are clearly visible between the 2 drivers side wheels, the mount closest to the rear tire was torn off the frame) please contact me if you would like to ask me more questions at (704) 506-4592.

7 Axle Assembly problem of the 2000 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/21/2003

I purchase this 2000 Jeep Wrangler from a Toyota dealership and paid the coverage warranty during the time of purchase. When I purchased this vehicle I noticed there was a weilding underneath the axle and told the salesman about it and he said not to worry about it, it won't cause any damage. Four months later the axle broke on a freeway for no reason. We told the Jeep dealership to fix the problem. They didn't even help us with the problem and quoting us 1,000 dollars to get it fixed from a Jeep Wrangler dearlership. This problem was already there when we purchased this vehicle. They should have fixed it before selling it to us. The warrenty we purchased did not cover the damage because it wasn't under warrenty. So,they can not fix the problem and need to tow it to a professional body lifting shop. We towed it there and it cost us 500. 00 to fix the damage that was already there in the beginning when we purchased the vehicle.

8 Axle Assembly problem of the 1999 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/07/2003

As I was driving down the road in my 1999 Wrangler, with only 70000 miles on it, and the entire rear end gave loose. Now I have a Wrangler, that is supposedly worth 14000, that is neither worth that nor is it drivable, and on top of that I have to shell out 1000 dollars in my own money to fix the thing.

9 Axle Assembly problem of the 2003 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/12/2003

According to internal sales brochures and advertisements the 2003 Jeep Wrangler rubicon is supposed to be the most capable off road Jeep ever. My Jeep has been nothing but problems, which consists of 2 broken axles, faulty brakes, faulty parking brake, faulty u-joint clips, faulty wheel bearing. After paying the dealer to replace parts that should have been covered under warranty, then realizing that they failed to replace another failed part, called to ask about a workaround until the needed part came in. The advice given was to remove the broken axle shaft and drive without it. This caused brake and wheel bearing failure. An attempt to get the dealer to take responsibility for the repair cost took some time to get resolved. Finally, they fixed the problems and voided the manufacture's warranty. Reason for voiding the warranty was misuse/abuse because the vehicle had been used off-road and had mud on the under carriage. This is unacceptable because you cannot market a vehicle as off-road and then void the warranty if it is used in this manner. The vehicle was never submerged, or in mud/water deeper then the height of the bottom of the front bumper. Furthermore, Jeep claims I am a member of a 4wd club that I have no affiliation with and claims a witness saw the vehicle under water. Both not true. Asking for help from the dot to make Jeep stand by it's warranty, or have them not market the vehicle as off-road since if using it off road voids the warranty then this is false advertising.

10 Axle Assembly problem of the 2002 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/19/2003

In 4-low trying to get out of snow in a 2002 Jeep Wrangler, the axle broke for no apparent reason. This is not being covered by warranty since I was told it happened when spinning tires hit pavement, although I never did get to pavement.
