Consistently "spongy brakes" having continued decreased stopping ability for 6 months after purchase. On 06/05/2018 had brakes inspected by dealership and told they were fine. On 06/14/2018 vehicle was at a complete stop at drive-thru restaurant with brake pedal completely engaged and vehicle moved and rolled forward into the vehicle in front, causing damage. Unaware of a problem thinking it was driver error even though driver stated "foot was on brake the whole time" the vehicle sustained minimal damage and was continued to be driven. On July 7, 2018, with different driver, brake fully engaged at stop light and on city road and vehicle "rolled forward" and hit vehicle in front. On July 9, 2018 vehicle was delivered to dealership with third driver and brakes failed to stop at stop sign going into traffic on city road with brake being engaged and then going to the "floor" of vehicle. On July 17, 2018 dealership state master cylinder has internal failure and it was ready to be picked up. Upon test driving, brakes continued to "go to the floor" after braking and stopping. Dealership kept vehicle and "found internal leak at the brake master cylinder that leaked into brake booster and hcu not responding and found internal failure int he hcu. Vehicle was picked up August 15, 2018. Vehicle appeared to be operating efficiently; but, seemed to still have "play" in the brakes. Had fourth driver test drive, that is experience in car/motorcycle repair and stated that brakes stopped vehicle; but, when slammed to "lock" they never locked before abs kicked in. All 3 drivers of Jeep noticed brakes starting to develop the same issue as previously experienced. Traded Jeep in on new vehicle as 17 yr. Old driver was main driver on vehicle and felt too dangerous to risk this issue again.

Driving down the road the rear upper control arm brackets separated from the frame as a result of the frame corroding from the inside out. This caused the rear brake line to brake draining the master cylinder.

Attempted to stop at a traffic light and the brakes would not work. Brake pedal went all the way to the floor but nothing happened. Tried pumping but nothing. Ended up running the red light and was not able to get it to stop until I had crossed through all the lanes to the other side. Brakes started working after crossing the street and continued to work until taken back to Jeep service. They replaced the master cylinder and brake fluid. Found internal failure of brake master cylinder, installed new one and bleed master cylinder. Evidently there was a recall on the 2010 master cylinders but my Jeep did not receive a recall notice. How do I know that the master cylinder was replaced with a new type and not the same style master cylinder that failed.

After driving on the freeway for approx. 40 miles I attempted to exit. I applied my brakes to start slowing down and proceed to get into the exit lane. Once in the exit lane I tried to apply more brake pressure to slow down faster, and the brake pedal slowly traveled all the way to the floor. I managed to get back on to the freeway without incident and onto a breakdown lane to slow down. I applied my brakes again, and after applying a moderate amount of pressure the brake pedal continued to travel to the floor. Using only moderate brake pressure I was able to slow down my vehicle and stop. Any more than moderate pressure would cause the pedal to go to the floor. I checked my brake fluid level, and it was still at the max level, so I proceeded to pump my breaks to try and locate a leak. There were no leaks and the brake fluid level did not go down. I slowly continued home knowing that I had limited braking ability. At home I inspected my vehicle again, and there was no brake fluid loss. I opened the brake fluid container and inspected the fluid level, the fluid level was at the max mark, but I noticed small black particles at the bottom of the container. I called the dealer I purchased the vehicle from and described the incident. They picked up my vehicle and replaced the brake master cylinder.
My daughter experienced brake failure in her 2004 Jeep Wrangler causing her to coast through a stop sign and hit an oncoming car. Upon inspection of her Jeep, there was a clip missing that secured the connection of the brake pedal assembly to the actuator rod that goes into the brake booster/master cylinder. Without the clip, the two parts separated causing complete brake failure. This car has no history of brake repair in that area which indicates a faulty clip or a clip was never installed from the factory.

2006 Jeep Wrangler replaced brakes. Consumer states that the brake backing plates were replaced due to damage. He states that the vehicle became stuck in a snowdrift and after being shoveled out the brake indicator light started flashing. The dealer stated the master cylinder was blown and the brake pads were ruined due to driving with the brakes being frozen. The consumer was told the damages would not be covered under warranty due to weather conditions.

Consumer put vehicle in drive & it went into reverse. Dealer replaced the master cylinger because while braking pedal went to floor, consumer later heard a noise while braking, dealer lubricated and adjusted rear drums. Rear glass was chipped and was replaced.
When consumer applies brake pedal it goes all the way down to the floor. Brakes wouldn't hold. Consumer has to use emergency brakes in order to stop. The brake failed due to defective brake cylinder. The owner says the rear glass is also defective as well as the tire, which was replaced.
No rear brakes and the front brakes locked up. The trouble takes place mostly when it snows or when it is slippery. The back brakes have never worked. Dealer changed everything in the brake system, except the master cylinder. Inspector from Jeep came ,. And worked on it. Then, they said the nature of the beast was not to have any rear brakes. Parts that were changed included three sets of brake shoes/two rear brake drums/two sets of rear wheel cylinders, proportional valve/abs computer for brake system, and two brake lines.

Master cylinder seal leak.
When brakes are applied, the front brakes lock up, but the rear wheels continue to turn, which is extremely hazardous during slippery conditions. Dealer has tried to correct problem by replacing drums and valve, but that did not cure the problem. They have now ordered a new master cylinder. We are hoping that the master cylinder cures the problem, but are concerned that other people may not realize that there rear brakes are not functioning properly.
