36 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

During fueling, when the fuel pump nozzle automatically stops the flow of gasoline , fuel surges back through the filler tube and vigorously splashes out on the side of the vehicle and anything or person within 2 to 3 feet of the fuel filler. This occurs every time the fuel tank is filled. It has spilled fuel on every fill up (at least one cup), despite precautions (slowing filling rate). Manufacturer and dealer have done nothing to correct this problem, this happens every time I fill up.

37 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/02/2010

At the end of fueling fuel shoots from filler neck after fuel pump shut off.

38 Fuel Pump problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/30/2010

Fuel sprays out of gas tank when gas pump auto stop is used. This is a fire danger as the muffler is very near the fuel inlet. Also, I have had fuel sprayed on my body, and if ignited, would have caused severe burns. This occurs about 75% of the time when using pump auto stop. I have since quit using auto stop, and manually stop the fuel pump. I'm taking to dealership for them to attempt a permanent repair.

39 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/02/2010

I have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler unlimited. This vehicle has a fuel overflow spill problem every time I gas it up. As a matter of fact, I have been banned from a local gas station because I constantly spill fuel due to a Jeep defect that does not shut the fuel pump prior to fill. Clearly a safety and environmental problem.

40 Fuel Pump problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/04/2010

Fuel spraying out of fuel tank when filling up at pump. 2007 Jeep Wrangler. This occurs on every fill up. No damage other than fuel spraying all over vehicle, fuel pump area, etc.

41 Fuel Pump problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

Fuel tank will overflow spilling anywhere from 1-2 quarts of fuel from vehicle when automatic fuel pumps are used. It appears as though the tank does not vent properly, when the automatic fuel pumps shut off (regardless of station) the tank appears to "burp" venting more gases and 1-2 quarts of fuel. This is a consistent problem happening regularly (every second or third fill up).

42 Fuel Pump problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/09/2010

I ran out of gas, I pulled into a gas station, I filled my tank. As my tank became full, I expected the pump to automatically stop, as they are designed to do. Instead, I watched fuel spew out of my filler neck, and had to stop the pump myself. I went inside the gas station to tell the attendant that their pump must be faulty. They explained to me that they have never received that complaint before, so I left. The next time I needed fuel, I went to a different gas station, and experienced the same problem. I then went three fill-ups with no issue. On the fourth re-fueling episode, it happened again, at a totally different station. Therefore, I believe the problem is in the Jeep's filler neck, not the fuel pumps I was using. The consequences of this problem are obvious, it is a fire hazard, it spews gasoline all over the vehicle's paint, and all over your legs and shoes, depending on where you are standing. Also, it is an environmental issue.

43 Fuel Pump problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/08/2010

Gas overflow at fillup. Automatic stop does not function with this gas tank at a variety of filling stations. Using hand, or auto, the gas keeps pumping past full. Every fill up ends with a gallon or more of fuel pumping onto the ground.

44 Fuel Pump problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/02/2010

Vehicle failed to shut off fuel pump during refueling operation when tank became full, allowing fuel to overflow onto the side of the Jeep, and onto the ground.

45 Fuel Pump problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/13/2009

Fuel blows out of tank after fuel pump shuts off. I've tried different gas stations and pumps but it does it every time.

46 Fuel Pump problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/01/2009

When filling the fuel tank from empty to full on 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited x the fuel pump nozzle does not shut off automatically. Causing a dangerous overflow that gets on the person, ground and the side of the Jeep. This started on about 9/01/09. I bought the Jeep new in 05/01/07. The mileage is 54,000 on it now.

47 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

While filling gas tank in san diego at the same location I had filled up at many times the fuel pump kicked off and in less than a second later gas came squirting out of the vent holes with enough force to spray gas 3 - 4 feet away from the car. I initially thought it may be a problem with the pump but over the last 10 month this has occurred at many different gas stations. I have also tried filling at the lowest speed of the pump but it will still spray out. It stopped for a month or so but has started up again over this last month. This is very dangerous when it comes out with enough force to get into someone's eyes or possibly cause a fire. The first time this happened my shirt and pants were sprayed with gas.

48 Fuel Pump problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

Fuel spray everytime I fill the vehicle. Fuel pump does not sense tank is full and sprays fuel everywhere. Widely reported by fellow Jeep Wrangler owners across the country. Chrysler denies problem while replacing some tanks with new tank that continues to use faulty design. Currently there is no aftermarket help or support for this issue and certainly none from Chrysler or Jeep.

49 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/01/2009

When filling my 2005 Jeep Wrangler with gas it overflows and sprays gasoline out the fill hole instead of the fuel pump shutting off as it should. This happens everytime I fuel up regardless of what gas station/pump I use. This seems like a huge fire hazard as well as an environmental issue.

50 Fuel Pump problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/01/2008

My 2007 Jeep Wrangler spits back fuel when filling the gas tank. This has been going on since I bought the Jeep. I have had the fuel tank, o-ring, fuel pump and level unit replaced.

51 Fuel Pump problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/19/2008

I bought a 2008 Jeep Wrangler (4) door unlimited rubicon. I did not have more than 150 miles on it before the engine would stall while making a turn at an intersection. The vehicle stalls on a regular basis. The vehicle now has 7000 miles on it and about two weeks ago it stalled on a main city road going about 40 45 miles per hour. Vehicle display showed that it was out of gas but it had â¾ of a tank. After having it pushed off the road, and having 5 additional gallons of gas put in, it started with a very high rpm. The vehicle is now about 8 months old and has been in the shop for about 60 days. Some of the things that have been replaced are: fuel pump, tork converter, and power module. This stalling problem is a life safety liability. The dealership has been good to work with but our family is at risk every time we leave the drive way.

52 Fuel Pump problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/05/2008

My car was parked on an incline of about 20 degrees and I had 1/4 tank of gas. When I went to start the car it wouldn't turn on. All the lights on the dash came on, but the engine wouldn't turn over. My radio and lights worked fine. This is the 3rd time that this has happened in a year and 2 months. The two prior times, I coasted down to a flat area and the car started. Tonight it didn't. I think there is a problem with the fuel delivery system or fuel pump. The three times that this has happened I have had 1/4 of a tank of gas or less.

53 Fuel Pump problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/16/2007

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that intermittently, fuel would spew back from the filler tank during refueling. The contact stated he would have to hold the fuel pump aggressively when refueling to keep the gasoline from spilling. The dealer stated that the rollover valve on the fuel tank was fractured and would only become worse. The dealer stated the failure was not a defect but a warranty issue. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 2,700 and the current mileage was 33,000.

54 Fuel Pump problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/25/2007

I was going down a steep hill on a remote trail with a half a tank of gas. After 10 minutes the fuel gauge showed empty and the engine died, I lost my brakes just when I needed them the most. I could not stop the car and we plunged down the very very steep hill with no way to stop or to steer. For some reason in a steep down hill the engine did notnot get fuel. Losing brakes and steering power just when it is needed the most is an accident and a law suite waiting to happen.

55 Fuel Pump problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/01/2005

When fueling my 2005 Jeep Wrangler , and allowing the fuel pump to automatically turn off when the gas tank reaches the full level, fuel will often overflow out of the fill port. My Jeep dealer says that the fix is to replace the gas tank and that they are aware of this problem, cost for new gas tank $800. 00.

56 Fuel Pump problem of the 1998 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/25/2005

While traveling at 60 mph driver felt the engine running real rough and making noise. Driver pulled over, and noticed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. 57 Fuel Pump problem of the 1997 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/15/2003

I bought this 1997 Jeep Wrangler from a used car dealer in June 2002 with a limited warranty and was told the vehicle pased inspection and had no problems. Since then I have had to have the wiring harness repaired, the fuel pump replaced, the transmission replaced, it has a faulty fuel gauge reading, the intake and exhaust manifold need to be replaced and now the steering linkage or stabilizer bars are faulty.

58 Fuel Pump problem of the 1997 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/15/2003

I bought my 1997 Jeep Wrangler in June, 2002 from a used car dealer in baltimore, MD with an as-is warranty and was told the vehicle had passed inspection and was in good condition. It had 64,000 miles on it and appeared to be good. Since then I have had nothing but problems with this Jeep. First the wiring harness, then the transmission, now a diagnosis to replace the intake and exhaust manifold, replaced fuel pump and has a faulty fuel gauge, and possibly the stabilizer bar or steering components. This Jeep is costing me more in repairs than the actual value of it. I fear that it is unsafe and that I m facing more expenses if I keep it, but I am still making payments on it. Do I have any recourse as far as lemon law protection, recalls, help!!! I don't know what to do with it.

59 Fuel Pump problem of the 1998 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/11/2000

In tank electric fuel pump gasket failure. I filled the fuel tank on a 1998 Jeep Wrangler on a Sunday night, the vehicle sat in my driveway over night and into the following afternoon. Upon returning home from work I noticed a very strong odor of gasoline, upon further investigation I found the fuel running at a steay stream onto my driveway from the Jeep I had filled up the previous evening. I attempted to locate the source of the leak and stop it, however I was unable to locate the source of the leak. I removed the fuel tank from the vehicle and found the fuel to be leaking around the retaining ring for the fuel pump that is installed in the fuel tank. I checked the screw on retaining ring for tightness and found it to be secure and snug on the tank. The ring is a screw on type collar made of hardened plastic, which holds the fuel pump in the tank, the fuel pump sits on a flat rubber gasket which sits on the lip of the plastic gas tank. Upon removing the retaining ring and lifting the fuel pump out of the tank I noticed the gasket was crimped and torn on the top flat portion of the gasket. I contacted the owner to discuss possible causes for the gasket tear, the owner claimed to have had the vehicle in for a faulty fuel level indicator a couple months earlier. Which was inline with what I had assumed seeing as the fuel tank had grease pencil writing on top of the tank indicating a technicians initials, date and mileage. This probably explains the torn gasket, however upon obtaining a new gasket and attempting to reinstall the new gasket in the tank with the fuel pump I noticed the reason the gasket probably tore, the retaining ring has a tendency to grab the gasket and turn it as the ring seats itself. I was very careful and cautious while installing this ring and gasket considering I did not have another gasket and I did not want to tear this replacement part. I need more room to finish. Please email me at vpbaraz@mail. Com thanks. Im out of room.
