36 Manual Transmission problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/01/2009

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would shift into neutral. The failure would recur sporadically and the vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The dealer replaced the transmission twice in an attempt to correct the failure but to no avail and the failure would recur within six months following repairs. The manufacturer was contacted who advised that it would be left up to the dealer to repair the failure and offered no further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage 81,850.

Failure Date: 07/04/2009

2009 Jeep Wrangler unlimited 4x4 rubicon. Pops out of first gear upon starting from a complete stop. When I let out the clutch and press the gas the shifter pops out of first gear. It is quite alarming. Never on deceleration or once the clutch is let out.

38 Manual Transmission problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/20/2009

First I started to have a loud rattling sound when I am idling, neutral with the clutch out. I was told it was normal wear noise, but I could replace the throw out bearing to make it quieter. After it was replaced I started hearing a loud whistling sound when my Jeep is coasting and above 2000 rpms with the clutch out. The dealership keeps telling me it's normal. I have taken it back 2 times, but they can't find the problem. I'm still having the noise and there is no sign of a fix from the dealership. They just keep saying it's normal. Just like everything else they have had to fix!!!.

39 Manual Transmission problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/01/2009

2009 Jeep Wrangler x pops out of first gear as the vehicle accelerates from a complete stop. As this is occurring in first gear from a stop it is usually when the vehicle is merging into traffic or at a stop sign, thus creating the potential for a broadside collision or rear end.

40 Manual Transmission problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/29/2009

Incident has occurred since purchase of the new vehicle. About 50% of the time, the standard transmission will thrust out of 1st gear when attempting to accelerate. This often is dangerous when pulling into busy traffic or merging onto crowded highways. Dealership and manufacturer have been unresponsive.

41 Manual Transmission problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

Multiple defective 6 speed manual transmissions. I have had three transmissions installed in my Jeep, and all have the same problems, hard to pull out of first, and grinding during up shifts from first to second and second to third. I have found multiple other owners of the same vehicle on the internet that have the same problem, but Chrysler has not come up with fix for the problem. The issue can be hazardous, if you are trying to accelerate in traffic, you can't because the transmission won't go into gear.

42 Manual Transmission problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/27/2009

2009 Jeep Wrangler hesitates when accelerating, sometimes loses power, and/or bucks randomly. When starting from a stop, the vehicle will take some time to start accelerating, with the delay being in the order of 2 seconds or more. When merging, the vehicle sometimes loses power if you step on the accelerator hard. When driving the vehicle and accelerating gently, it sometimes hesitates or 'bucks' and then gains power.

43 Manual Transmission problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/05/2009

Manual transmission spontaneously pops out of gear in cold weather. This results in a moving vehicle being in neutral. After failing to remedy the problem Chrysler advises to leave the vehicle parked in neutral with the parking brake on in cold weather. This does not fix the problem and is warned against in the owner's manual.

44 Manual Transmission problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/28/2008

I have had multiple occurrences where the vehicle will stall at 50-60mph. All of sudden I just lose power and my sensor lights come on in the dash. I have to attempt to pull over without any steering and turn the vehicle off and turn it back on, this usually works but recently this happened and when I went to start the vehicle the check engine light stayed on and it did the same thing after driving about 100 more feet and would die out after about 3 attempts and I could not get the vehicle started, I let it sit for about 10 minutes and then it restarted and I drove it approximately 12 miles with the check engine light on, without any problems before driving it into the shop. It has now been into the shop twice for the problem, it has happened more times than I have taken it into be fixed because I was told to keep driving it until it happened again. After the first time of being apparently fixed it a few days after it was fixed and they ran a test on it and said it should be fine and to keep driving it. It then did it about 3 weeks later and I brought it into the shop again, this s when the check engine light stayed on.

45 Manual Transmission problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/12/2008

2008 Jeep Wrangler 6-speed. The transmission and engine rattle and shake on a constant basis. It is worse on bumps and rough roads. Took it to dealer twice, Chrysler rep looked at it and said there is no replacement parts. They said all Wranglers do this so there is nothing I can do about it. Called Chrysler hot line to register a complaint. They said they would look into it and call me. They've never called. I believe this condition interfers with normal driving and is very dangerous when using 4 wheel drive in off road conditions. I think they said they all do this is so there is no diminished value so I can't use the lemon law. The dealer has been very cooperative but he's limited to what the factory tells him to do. This started at 2,000 miles and now have 4,000 miles.

46 Manual Transmission problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/01/2007

It is a 2007 Jeep Wrangler x with a 6 speed manual, there is a loud squealing noise coming from underneath the truck. When in the rpm range of 1500 to 2000 rpms it makes this noise. It is starting to become very annoying because the more I drive the louder it gets. The dealership has replaced the throw out bearing per the TSB that was given. That has not fixed the problem. The dealership said they contacted Chrysler and that it would take 30 days to get a field engineer out to look at my problem to come up with a solution for it. So I am still waiting and not very happy with the dealerships outcome.

47 Manual Transmission problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/12/2007

Throw out bearing and noisy transmission I was told at the dealer when I took this 2004 Jeep Wrangler in for service, took the Jeep to canyonlands in utah where it wouldn't go into any gear at all, had to pull it home behind a friends Jeep. This needs to be address as a recall issue! I was told by the service department representative to take my Jeep someplace else for service real rudely. Also paid for a 7 year 70,000 mile power train warranty transfer from original owner to me, this same dealer also showed I paid for nothing, since it wasn't applicable even though it was sent to me by daimler Chrysler.

48 Manual Transmission problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/26/2007

Starting with the purchase of the 2007 Jeep in may 2007 we have had nothing but problems. Leaky roof, electrical stall issue (still not fixed after multiple recalls), electronic stability death wobble, etc.

49 Manual Transmission problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/10/2007

Vehicle has stalled while driving 45mph on exit ramp and 65mph on highway. Vehicle restarted right away as it's a manual transmission. All dash warning lights lit up like when first turning vehicle on. Didn't notice loss of power steering as I was going straight both times. Didn't file complaint before because I didn't know I could. Was just waiting for Jeep to come up with the solution and then take it in for it.

50 Manual Transmission problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/08/2007

While driving at roughly 70 mph on highway throttle felt a little weird then the rpms dropped to zero as the electronic throttle control light on the dash came on. Immediately headed for the shoulder as I lost power steering and power braking although the electronic steering/braking system was alerted during my swerve towards the shoulder. The vehicle was very unresponsive. Upon reaching the shoulder the vehicle stalled. Turned off the vehicle, and then restarted it and cautiously returned home. Consulted the manual and it appeared that such events were expected and considered normal if the electronic throttle control light did not returned upon restarting the vehicle. The vehicle has shown signs of repeating this trouble and during those times I have let off the throttle, down shifted and then shifted up again in hopes that whatever glitch was occurring would be reset. Conditions: late afternoon, f, driving for about 45 minutes manual transmission , stereo was on.

51 Manual Transmission problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/12/2007

Transmission pops (clutch slap) out of first gear on acceleration from a stop.

52 Manual Transmission problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/01/2007

The contact owns a 2005 Jeep Wrangler. While driving 10 mph, the transmission slammed out of gear. The contact heard a rattling sound coming from the transmission when the failure occurred. He stated that the other gears operate normally. The dealer replaced the throw out bearing, however, the failure still persists. The current mileage was 34,461 and failure mileage was 18,000.

54 Manual Transmission problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/29/2006

Three month old Jeep Wrangler with 6 speed. After vehicle has been sitting for a few hours, regardless of outside temperature, the first several 1-2 shifts upon driving it again exhibit a loud grinding sound which can also be felt through the shifter. The transmission is reluctant to come out of first gear. It has to be pulled out of gear instead of just sliding out. It then feels like it bounces off of second gear, requiring another attempt to engage second. When I first got the vehicle, it actually felt like there was no fluid in the transmission. Shifting becomes much smoother, I. E. Normal, once it has been run for a few miles, although I do feel it occasionally even after driving for a while. Dealer road tested the vehicle and says it is "o. K. At this time. " this condition may have some safety ramifications in addition to the transmission longevity issues. First gear in this vehicle is very low. I only use it to start rolling a little bit and then quickly try to engage second. However, I am so conscious of the difficulty of this 1-2 shift that I execute it very slowly, all the while cringing at he thought of the damage I am doing to the transmission. The problem is that the rpm's drop off so much during the time of this shift that there is little power available once I actually engage second, resulting in leisurely acceleration at best. On two occasions already, the people behind me have blown their horns and nearly run up my back because, I believe, they must have thought I was going to stop instead of continuing to accelerate. It is getting to the point where, if the road is level, I take off using second gear instead of first until I have traveled several miles and the transmission begins to behave normally. I have driven manual transmissions for 20 years and have never experienced this type of behavior.

55 Manual Transmission problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/15/2006

I have had a problem with my six speed manual transmission in my 2005 Jeep Wrangler since January, 2006. While my vehicle was still under warranty I had the dealership take a look at it they told me there was nothing wrong with it. Since then I have had three transmissions put in my Jeep at my cost and it still pops out of first gear. It sounds like somebody ran into me. The dealership as I know now was aware of the problem and did not want to fix it. My Jeep is no longer under warranty and thanks alot.

56 Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/02/2005

I have a 2003 Jeep Wrangler with 48,000 miles. I am experiencing intermittent sticking of the shifting lever when entering 3rd from 2nd gear. At other times there is no problem shifting. I had it in to the dealer this week. We change the oil. The problem is not a bad.

57 Manual Transmission problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/03/2004

Leaking transmissdiontransfere case. Dealer has tryed to fix without success. Brand new rubicon less than 2500 miles on it and leaking bad. Dealer has tryed to replace seals without any success. Now they say its a manufactores defect.

58 Manual Transmission problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/03/2004

Oil leak from engine/transmission.

59 Manual Transmission problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/03/2004

New 2004 Jeep Wrangler se. The manual transmission clunks clinks & sometimes grinds when upshifting from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd gear. I was nearly rearended last week. I was going up a hill from a stop. When I shifted from 2nd to 3rd gear the syncros started grinding. Not wanting to abuse my Jeep, I backed off to neutral and was nearly rearended by the car behind me. I have been told by the dealer and the factory rep. That there is nothing wrong with the transmission. That it is"the nature of the beast", all of these transmission are a little noisy, but not to worry because I have a 7 year,70,000 mile warranty. What good is a warranty if they refuse to admit that there is a problem?.

60 Manual Transmission problem of the 1997 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/30/2003

My vehicle has run rough, idling rough, "bucking", losing coolant and dripping from the tailpipe about a week after the extended warranty expired. I have had major valve train problems and had to have the camshaft replaced along with the gasket, cylinder head, core return, radiator and now the latest is oil pressure gauge sending unit. Oil pressure still showing zero even after replacing sending unit!.

61 Manual Transmission problem of the 1998 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/29/2003

I have had numerous problems with my Jeep Wrangler 1998. This is a partial list I sent to Chrysler: I bought my Jeep with just 3600 miles on it from a dealer in 1999. From day one I started experiencing problems. Many of them I returned to the service department. Some they were able to fix, others, after many return trips, they were 'unable to duplicate the problem'. 1. Gauges would stop working while driving - I brought the vehicle in 5 times before they were able to duplicate and finally fix the problem. 2. This was also true of the blinkers that not always worked - or worked all at the same time. 3. My hazards still do not work every time. 4. The air conditioner goes out when driving, very uncomfortable when it is hot and raining. 5. The sound bar has never worked properly - first it would only come in some times - now never. 6. Headers are cracked - bad. They have been welded several times. When I went to have them welded it was found they were welded before my purchase - at 3600 mil! they are still cracked, welding does not hold. I can not get anyone to replace them because even exhaust specialists say it is too cumbersome. The dealer charges way more than I have considering the number of repairs and the price of gas - at 12 mpg. 7. Drivers seat belt locks tightly with any amount of pressure on the brakes - it has now gotten to the point it locks just while driving. 8. Windows - the zippers broke almost immediately - I paid alot to have these replaced. The back window now has a cut in it and is very difficult to see through. 9. The top has never quite fit right; it has always leaked and been extremely noisy - more so than anyone else's that I know. It has also come apart at the seams. The dealership has not been of any help. They wanted to charge outrageous amounts just for diagnostics, even when I had the best warranty. I've also had problems with the door molding coming out immediately, grinding in the steering wheel, grinding while trying to put it in reverse and more.

62 Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/25/2003

I have a 2003 Wrangler with a 5-speed transmission. I have had a problem when shifting into second and third gear. It is either hard to get into gear or it grinds as it goes in. The dealership has looked at three different times and has found no problem. The vehicle now has 14,000 miles on it and it now seems to be worse during colder weather.

63 Manual Transmission problem of the 1997 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/18/2003

5-speed trans hard to shift cold. Front sway ber links breaking.

64 Manual Transmission problem of the 2002 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/20/2002

The 5 speed transmission makes a rattling sound when idling in neutral. Nlm.

65 Manual Transmission problem of the 2000 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/01/2001

I get a roaring sound from the transmission when the clutch is not depressed, and in neutral, but goes away when the clutch is depressed. If you turn the ignition off with the clutch not depressed the engine rattles and shakes. It's also hard to change gears after the Jeep has been driven for 20 to 30 minutes, and it has popped out of gear several times. The first time it popped out of gear I was merging in traffic on the highway, and caused a truck behind me to run off the road to avoid hitting me. Nobody was hurt, but they very well could have been. I have taken it to coker Jeep and Chrysler in texarkana, texas, and was told that they couldn't find any thing wrong, so I made them drive me around, and they saw what I was talking about. They were going to order, and change the throw out bearing, but I drove another 2000 Jeep on there lot and it did the exact same thing, so they just wrote it off as normal, and have refused to do anything about it. I know I am only 1 person, but it seems to me that it would be in the best interest of Chrysler to adress this problem instead of ignoring it. Eventually somebody is going to die as a result, and Chrysler will be in the same position as Ford found theselves in, but Chrysler won't have a tire company to blame it on. I also have a problem with the passenger side floofboard taking on water. It doesn't matter if it's raining or not, after an hour or so of driving with the a/c running the floor gets soaking wet. The floorboard around the drain hole on the passenger side is starting to show signs of rust. I have read the complaints on your website, and it seems to me that there are enough complaints about these problems that Chrysler would do something about it. My Jeep is 3 years old this month, and subsequent my factory warranty has run out. I would like some answers.

66 Manual Transmission problem of the 2000 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/01/2001

No summary listed for abov evehicle.

67 Manual Transmission problem of the 1997 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/10/2000

Transmission sticks trying to shift into 2nd gear, has been serviced, still is sticking while shifting especcially into 2nd gear, which sometimes grinds. Dealer has changed the transmission fluid twice, 2nd time used synthetic fluid. 2nd gear feels like the syncronizer is not working properly, or very slowly. I must hold the clutch in for an extened period to allow 2nd gear to syncronize before shifting into it up and down shifting.

68 Manual Transmission problem of the 2000 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/18/2000

I believe a brand new vehicle should have nothing wrong with it for at least 2 years thats why I bought a new one. This has been the worst time of my life and I cannot get help without spending loads of money to fight these people and Chrysler. No ,safety defect listed in summary.

69 Manual Transmission problem of the 2000 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/25/2000

Water leaks under the dash on the drivers side if driving at hiway speeds. Transmission pops out of gear at take off and is hard to shift after the vehicle is driven and warmed up.

70 Manual Transmission problem of the 2000 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/01/2000

My complaint is the same as all the others, this wonderful new transmission pops out of gear upon take off periodically. I've had two near miss collision in intersections when it pops out. Transmission also sounds like it has a handfull of marbles in it. All the complaints make me feel better because if I ever get killed in an accident when it pops out of gear my wife can sue the pants off of Chrysler! hopefully they will recall this before that happens. I will never buy another Chrysler product!!!.
