1 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/16/2021

While driving, the vehicle loses propulsion; the rpms go to zero for about 3 seconds and then return to normal and acceleration is regained. No check engine light or code is given. This occurred randomly for the last year. In June of 2020 I took it to Jeep dealer who was not able to replicate the problem and said that no code was given. Then in December of 2020 the issue became worse to where the vehicle would completely shut down and not regain power unless restarted. On one occasion it would not restart, leaving me stranded. I took it to an independent mechanic who also could not replicate the problem. The independent mechanic suggested that the symptoms sound like they are related to a fuel pump relay, but that part is not replaceable on my Jeep. They said that other Chrysler vehicles have had recalls for similar problems, but not my year model Jeep. The problem continues to persist randomly. Sometimes it happens twice within an hour, sometimes not at all. When it happens it's always in motion. On January 16th I video recorded the incident while driving. I have the entire thing on video that I can share with you. In the video you can see that I'm driving at a steady speed at 2500 rpms. Then the rpms flash quickly to 3500 rpms and then instantly drop to zero, as though the ignition had been turned off. Although I still have electrical, as my radio and blinkers are working, the Jeep very quickly loses power steering. If I had not been able to quickly pull off the highway my Jeep would have been dead and stranded in the middle of a busy highway. I then attempted to restart the Jeep, but it would not start. I would turn the key just once and let go, but the Jeep would continue trying to start over and over for about 10 seconds before stopping. I was unable to start the Jeep until waiting for a period of about 10 minutes. Then it started up and operated normally.

2 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/28/2020

Vehicle was stationary at fuel pump with the fuel tank half full. Began refueling and had an immediate back splash /spewing of fuel. Estimate at least a half gallon was spilled onto the vehicle, the ground and on my person.

3 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/10/2019

Vehicle stalled while in motion on a highway. This has been a consistent issue for the last several years. I believe it first occurred in 2016. The vehicle will just stall on a city street, in a residential area, or even on the highway. Fuel was not related as it has happened on a full tank of gas or a quarter tank. It was taken to the Jeep dealership on multiple occasions (that has been documented) because of this dangerous hazard, and they were not able to replicate so it was never fixed. I even showed them video evidence 3 times. The vehicle just stalls randomly while driving (in the middle of high speed traffic). The rpm would just go to zero, and when trying to start the car back up, it would try to crank, but would not start. The car would have to be turned off for 5 minutes and then the car would eventually start again. This would occur at least 1/month for several months. The Jeep dealership replaced fuel pump, and checked other components as the engine light never turned on, and they could not find the resolution to this issue. This is a highly dangerous problem and seems to be very common among this model year Jeep, and Jeep continues to claim no fault. Someone could die if their car stalled on the highway with cars going 70+ mph. An experienced driver may be able to maneuver, but certainly an inexperienced driver would not. This vehicle was intended to be for a teenage child, but I could not knowingly give this to them having this unresolved issue. After much research, I believe it is a faulty or defective crankshaft position sensor, but Jeep refuses to acknowledge this and continues to say this is not the issue, yet the car has continued to stall on various occasions still. They should be liable for any serious injury or death that may potentially occur! I will be taking this vehicle to be repaired elsewhere after my own research and troubleshooting.

4 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

When filling up at a fuel pump, the fuel pump handle will click off and after that happens, about 1/4 of a gallon of fuel will spill out of the filler neck onto the side of my vehicle.

5 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/01/2019

The vehicle is stalling while driving or acting as if its going to cut off while in motion causing a very uncomfortable jerking motion. It also powers off and will not move until 3-5 minutes later regardless of what gear it's in. This vehicle has cut off on me numerous times while driving and has even caused me to be stuck in the road blocking traffic. I've contacted the dealership multiple times over the past few months and I also have diagnostic receipts that claim they can't find any issues with my vehicle when they inspect it. However, about a week ago I was watching channel 4 news and they reported a recall for 2011-2013 Jeep grand cherokee and durangos for engine stalling issues related to the fuel pump. . Read more...

6 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2014 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/01/2018

Strong fuel smell from leaking fuel on top of fuel tank, especially when tank near full. Strong enough to smell anywhere around the car when parked whether it was running or not, even outside. Dealer diagnosed cracked fuel pump but unable to get the part due to backorder, no safety recall, no warranty. Obviously dangerous to to drive so had it fixed by independent mechanic. Pulled out fuel pump and the plastic was cracked all around the outside edge under the locking ring which was the source of the leaking fuel. Dealer and Jeep customer service offered no remedy. Beware of this problem if your Jeep jk has a strong fuel smell.

7 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/01/2018

Numerous events of sudden stalling of vehicle at high speed in drive, at low speed in drive and reverse; creating a very dangerous situation involving near-miss rear end collisions. Can take up to 15 minutes to restart engine. Engine sometimes appears to restart with a ticking sound, has no power and automatic transmission can't be shifted into drive or reverse. Other times, engine starts and transmission can be shifted into drive or reverse, but gears do not engage. Numerous events, as common as stalling events, involving sudden and sometimes violent shocks to the drivetrain, which happen at all speeds, usually when accelerating. Everyone knows this is a tipm issue, with serious safety implications related to the potential for high speed rear end collisions by following vehicles, that Chrysler and the NHTSA have not taken adequate action to remedy except on limited affected vehicle types. Substantial information exists on this known issue, including information and documentation submitted to Chrysler and NHTSA. This particular vehicle was purchased new, started to exhibit this series of problems at the beginning of 2018 after 60,000+ miles, and has been back and forth to the dealer multiple times. There are no recorded error codes according to the dealer. The fuel pump relay has been replaced by dealer, supposedly, which was the latest unsuccessful attempt at solving the problem? prior to that work was performed on the transmission, supposedly, which also did not solve the problem? prior to the current symptoms, two unexplained dead battery events occurred. Now, readily found information shows a link with tipm and fuel pump relay failures that allow the fuel pump to run and drain the battery after turning off the ignition. How many more reports to NHTSA will it take to responsibly address this very serious potential rear collision safety issue related to the tipm?.

8 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/15/2017

I started smelling gas around my Jeep . I took it to the dealer . They did the chek valve recall . Gas leak still presisted . So I took it back to the dealer . They told me that the way the tank is designed that it weres the tank thin on top and starts to leak . It also started to leak around the fuel pump area they said due to dirt . This was a 9 hundred 5 dollar fix that I feal is not my fault the Jeep is garage kept and only has 82000 miles on it . Thats crazy to have to replace a tank with that many miles .

9 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/11/2017

Jeep Wrangler x 2006 automatic. Sthall while running in highway . Then would not start ,no crank. No fuel pump start , no panel indicators working. Shows a 06- 02 code error in panel. Mean fueling calibration error. 3 or 4 days later it start like new.

11 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/27/2016

Gas overflows and spills out during every fueling. I think it is an inlet check valve issue. Gas tank also leaks gas around the fuel pump seal. Smells like gas outside the vehicle.

12 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/05/2016

2011 Jeep Wrangler is very hard to fuel. When fueling fuel pump continually shuts off. Must reduce to a very slow rate and even then it will sometimes shut off no matter what pump is used. Occurs at every gas station and every pump. So now I have to pump gas into the Jeep really slow been care full as not to have a fuel back splash.

13 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/31/2016

When I fill up at the gas station, and the fuel pump clicks off, fuel spills out everywhere. Every single time.

14 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/02/2016

Bad fuel pump.

15 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/20/2016

Fuel pump does not shut off when full causing about 10 ounces of fuel to spray on me and on the ground. It also drips down the paint which can cause issues down the road over time.

16 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 1990 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/30/2015

The contact owns a 1990 Jeep Wrangler. While driving at approximately 55 mph, there were odors of fuel coming from the vehicle. The contact noticed that there were signs of the fuel leaking on the ground. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 07e064000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,000.

17 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/04/2015

My 2011 Jeep Wrangler has major electrical problems. The windshield wipers wouldn't turn off even after shutting off the engine. I pulled the fuse but they still stayed on. I could smell something electrical burning so I had to disconnect the battery. Also the door locks don't work and front cigarette lighter stopped working. I called the dealer and made an appointment to bring it in. While driving to the dealer the Jeep started to shake horribly when accelerating (due to electrical issues with the fuel pump). The dealer says that I need a new totally integrated power control module (tipm). The cost is well over $1000 (the vehicle is out of warranty). When I searched tipm problems on-line I found that Chrysler has tons of complaints about this but the only issued a recall on a few vehicle models and Wrangler wasn’t included. There are obviously a bigger number of vehicles affected and Chrysler should recall the remaining models.

18 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/14/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. . The contact smelled a strong odor of gas from the vehicle and noticed a discoloration of fuel leakage from under the vehicle on the ground. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed that the corroded top of the gas ring, fuel pump, and locking ring need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,820. Pp.

19 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4x4. The contact stated that strong fuel fumes emitted inside the vehicle. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that there was a leak coming from the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician diagnosed that the fuel tank, lock ring and the fuel pump deteriorated and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was not available. Pam.

20 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/28/2014

Fuel pump will not shut off when the tank is full resulting in gasoline spilled on the vehicle and all over the ground.

21 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/25/2014

When refueling, the nozzle on the fuel pump will not stop on time, allowing fuel to splash back at the person refueling. Today, the nozzle didn't stop at all, allowing a lot of fuel to spill on the ground. A person doesn't have to fill it up either. If you stop mid refill, it will still spray back at the person refueling.

22 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

Around the date listed above, and since then with every fuel fill up, once the fuel nozzle stops filling, the vehicle spills fuel all over the outside of the vehicle and onto the ground, creating a fire hazard. It did not do this when it was new, and it happens at all different fuel pumps and filling stations. There is a recall for similar vehicles, but it does not include this year. I think that it should.

23 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/25/2013

When refueling my Jeep, fuel was expelled from the filer neck at the same time the fuel pump cut off automatically. I was covered in gasoline this time after the fuel was expelled from the tank. This has happened on every refill starting about 6 months ago but the first time I have been doused with fuel. The Jeep dealer indicated that a recall had been initiated on hundreds of Wranglers but not the 2005jeep Wranglers for the same problem. This is an incredibly dangerous situation and the consumer needs your help!! many online articles from organizations like edmunds and consumer reports has indicated this is a serious problem and the problem needs to be identified by your organization and Chrysler needs to recall the vehicles.

24 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/19/2013

About 3 months ago the Jeep started spitting out a large amount of gasoline at the fuel pump 10 seconds after the pump shuts off. This happens at every fill now and is extremely dangerous as you have to start the car and drive with the rear corner covered in gasoline. I did research and this is a common chrylser/Jeep issue yet they said it's not a covered repair on my year model and could cost $1000 to fix. . . This doesn't make sense. I urge all drivers with this issue to file a complaint as it's dangerous and should be covered under the warranty if not, recall. My Jeep is stock everything and there was nothing that occured out of the ordinary when this started happening.

25 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/20/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that after adding fuel to the vehicle, the fuel pump automatically shut off and fuel sprayed out of the filler neck. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated the fuel purge valve had to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000.

26 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

I purchased the above vehicle back in10/2007 used. I never had a problem with the vehicle until recently that as I was driving, the car would try to shut off and the smell of gasoline was comng inthru the vents. In the last three weeks I have spent close to 600. 00 dollars in tune up, replaced coil pack and the fuel injector and still the problem was not fixed. I took my car to another mechanic who determined that the problem is the fuel pump. The mechanic asked me if there was ever a recall and I did a search and long and behold there was a recall, but they are telling me that I don't qualify. Please can someone help me. 27 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

When putting gas in my Jeep using a fuel pump gas runs out all down the side of my vehicle and makes a puddle on the ground before the pump clicks off. This has been happening for over a year now. It happens every time I fill up my car unless I happen to hear how close the gas level is getting and shut the pump off on my own.

28 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/16/2012

It seems that fuel pump in car is not working appropriately, everytime I drive vehicle it wants to shut down and the radio shuts down or comes on when it wants too.

29 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/15/2012

When filling up my Jeep with gas sometimes fuel will spew out even when the fuel pump clicks to stop. It will spew out and go down the side of me Jeep onto the ground. Enough where the attendant needs to be told. This is the same thing that happened on my 2008 Jeep Wrangler as well.

30 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/15/2012

Over fills at the fuel pump all the time.

31 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/03/2012

Recently purchased the Wrangler used. Fuel spill every time you fill the gas tank. When the fuel pump clicks off fuel shoots out the fill spout.

32 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/19/2012

While pumping gas at multiple different gas stations, the pump failed to shut off when the fuel tank became fuel. As a result of the pump not shutting off, fuel spilled out of the tank as it became overfilled. I did not leave the pump nor did I set the lock on the pump so I would not have to hold the pump handle during any of the times I have pumped gas into the vehicle to avoid spilling fuel the best I can. This happens at many different stations that I fill my fuel tank up at, the only common denominator in my situation is the vehicle itself. The vehicle has not been modified in any way that would interfere with normal fuel pumping procedure.

33 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

When fueling, it always overflows and spills fuel out from the gas tank. It seems to be a bit better if I manually hold the fuel pump and pump the gas at an extremely slow rate. I am not able to let the pump automatically fill otherwise fuel spills. This happens every time I fuel the Jeep.

34 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

Very often, when I fill up my gas tank, it spits gas out. Sometimes, the gas sprays out so far that it wets my clothing, the fuel pump stand, and the surrounding area. I am concerned that this can one day cause a fire and is a health and environmental hazard. I have tried to pump at different pumps and at different speeds but the problem persists.

35 Other Fuel System Pump problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/30/2010

At any refueling, before the fuel pump auto shut off is engaged, there is fuel spit back out of the fuel filler. It runs down the corner panel and behind the left rear fender flare, as well as onto the ground. Depending on what setting you have the pump handle set to (high, medium, low), depends on how much fuel is spat back out.
