1 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/19/2020

Fuel spills out of gas tank filler tube onto side of Jeep and onto ground every time fill up tank. Wife normally drives Jeep and didn't tell me when this started happening, but I think has been going on now for more than a year but she didn't investigate it online or report it to your staff. Then she went out of town few days ago and when I filled tank on 10/19/20 it overflowed a very noticeable amount of gas onto side of Jeep when using automatic pump shutoff nozzle at costco. Online research indicated fca was aware of this defect in 2007-2008 Jeep Wranglers and TSB issued in 2011 to cover free repair of valve, but although this is the same exact problem, could not find recall or TSB for 2010 Jeep Wranglers. Quick check online indicates many others with Jeep Wranglers built after 2008 having exact same problem. Never had a vehicle do this before, but it is a serious defect and should be fixed for free under a recall or TSB, as was done with the 2007/2008 Jeeps. Please let me know if you need and more info.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/27/2019

Jeep spits fuel back out when you fill up the tank. Not just a small amount either, a good amount all over the Jeep and the floor.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/23/2018

When filling the gas tank fuel will spill out when the nozzle shuts off. Spilling copious amounts of fuel down the side of the vehicle all over the nozzle and my hand and creating a large puddle on the ground. This happens almost every time the vehicle is filled up.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/20/2018

When I fill my tank and the nozzle shuts off a significant amount of gas spews out of the fill hole.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/26/2018

Gas tank overflow. Anytime I fill my tank, a large amount of gasoline shoots back out of the tank, dripping down the side of my car, and often splashing me or gas attendant. Not only is this dangerous, it is also damaging the plastic and paint on my car, as well as wasting gas.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/10/2017

Gas tank blows out a large amount of gas after filling up.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/06/2017

Every time I fill up my gas tank it clicks once to shut off and then fuel comes shooting out like a geyser. I have tried pumping slowly and all different positions with nozzle and that doesn't help. A huge amount of gasoline spits out everywhere.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/19/2016

The vehicle would spit gas out of the filler pipe after the pump would click off. The problem then developed into not letting me put gas in at all without the pump clicking off many times for a small amount of fuel. Replacing the tank fixed the problem. This problem has been well documented from 2007-2012 but Jeep only recalled or extended the warranty on models 2007-2008.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/13/2016

When filling the gas tank, fuel comes gushing out from the filler hole. This happens just as the gas pump clicks off. It spills a large amount of fuel all over the car and me. I would estimate 1/2 cup to 1 cup of gas spills depending on how quickly the gas pump is running. From my research so far this is not recalled and not under warranty. This seems like an extremely dangerous defect that was present and covered for 2007-2008 models. 2010 models need to be looked at and covered. This could be a potentially fatal defect.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

As the fuel tank is being filled with fuel and the fuel pump cuts off when the tank is full, the tank allows a significant amount of fuel to be "burped" out of the fuel filler onto the vehicle, ground, and the person filling the vehicle. This occurs every time the tank is filled at every fuel depot.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/05/2016

Fuel overflows and sprays out when filling tank at gas station. It happens every time we fill the tank over the last two years or so. (our Jeep has not been a primary vehicle until recently) I've never had this happen with any of the other vehicles I have driven over the last 32 years. We had planned to let our 16 year old daughter drive this vehicle. Now I have concerns that this vehicle could be too dangerous in its current state for her to drive. The amount of fuel spilled is significant. I am writing you now because my daughter had it spill out on her today.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

When pumping fuel while vehicle is stationary the fuel overflows. Must pump in small amounts slowly to keep overflow to a minimum; however, overflow still occurs especially at the end of pumping when the tank is full. Overflow squirts out and sounds like gargling when filling with fuel.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/12/2015

My gas tank overflows at the pump every time I re-fuel starting in January, 2015, 5 months after my warranty expired but with only 22,000 miles on the vehicle. The pump will shut off when full, then shortly after, overflow spills out onto the ground. The only way to prevent this issue is to guess when it is getting close to full and stop the pump before it is full. A significant amount of fuel splashes on me if I'm too close, on the body, bumper, and ground, causing a dangerous situation that could easily lead to a fire.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/10/2014

The fuel shutoff for filling up the tank no longer works. If you fill up the vehicle, when the shutoff clicks fuel gushes out. When you remove the fuel nozzle, more fuel gushes out. I use the term gush because it is not a small amount but quite a bit of fuel.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/05/2014

Fuel overflows every time I fill up. If I fill the tank to the auto shutoff point a fair amount of fuel spits out and down the side of the vehicle. This is a potential fire hazard, and not very good for the environment. So now I only put three fourths in so I don't have it pouring out and onto my Jeep.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2011 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

Excessive fuel spit back when refueling, even after gas nozzle is stopped. Gasoline "bubbles" and an excessive amount comes out of the tank even if not full but close to full.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 09/11/2014

I purchased the vehicle in September of 2014 for my 16 year old daughter. Every time we attempt to fill up the fuel tank, the pump doesn't cut off and gas spews all down the Jeep and whoever is pumping the fuel. I did some internet research and found it was a common problem with the Jeep and had hoped the vehicle would have been recalled by now to fix. I took it to the dealer and was told the gas tank has to be replaced to fix the problem at a cost of $1,300 and that the tanks were on backorder. Since I don't think it is safe for my daughter to pump the gas, I will continue to do it for her but I think given the amount of complaints and the safety issues, a recall is imminent.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2013 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

When I go to the gas station to fuel up, I engage the pump lock lever so the pump will fill up and shut off automatically when my gas tank is full. Unfortunately, the fuel pump disengages too late, and an unbelievably excessive amount of fuel will spurt out, cascading down the side of my vehicle. 2 different dealerships have attempted to resolve the issue, yet the problem persists. I have filled up at gas stations across no less than 10 different states - from the west coast to the northeast; with a variety of fuel pump styles; amid various temperatures; yet the only variation is the velocity with which the fuel sprays from the pump.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/29/2014

2010 Jeep Wrangler unlimited - fuel overflows every time I fill up. If I fill the tank to the auto shutoff point a fair amount of fuel pukes out and down the side of the vehicle. This is a potential fire hazard, and not very good for the environment. It happens at every gas station - the only work around is to not fill the tank.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/04/2013

I bought the Jeep in July of 2013. Every time I fill the tank the fuel spills out on the ground, me, and the Jeep's body. This happens at every station, every time. I have taken to mathematically figuring out the amount of fuel I need to add to the tank at each fill up so it doesn't fill, but if I'm wrong it spills out all over me!.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 04/29/2013

When filling up the gas tank, gas spills out of the tank onto the fender and ground. A significant amount of gas comes out of the tank when the pump nozzle shuts off. This has happened at several different gas pumps and gas stations. Now the check engine light comes on and is related to the gas cap. I suspect this overflow problem may have damaged the vapor canister and is the ultimate cause of the check engine gas cap code. No fire yet, but the potential is a lot greater with this safety issue.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/21/2013

Every time I go to fill up my gas tank- once the fuel pump reaches the full amount the fuel starts coming out of the tank spilling all over the side of my Wrangler and sometimes on my shoes. Even when I slow pump the gas into the tank, once it reaches a certain point (which I can never tell because most vehicles make the gas pump click off once full) it almost always automatically purges itself.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2005 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/13/2013

About 1 year ago the gas tank started over flowing when I put gas in. I initially thought it was a pump problem but it got worse over time. When I fill the tank it over flows about a cup of gas. When I contacted the dealer they knew about the problem and said it happens on some Jeeps. The problem is the roll over valve sticks open. The only fix is to replace the complete gas tank - $1,250. 00. Neither the dealer nor Chrysler would take responsibility for fixing the problem although Chrysler acknowleded it was a design defect not a manufacturing defect. If there are 1 million Jeeps on the road with this problem, their drivers fill up once a week, and spill a cup each that amounts to 60 thousand gallons of gas dumped into the environment a week. Seems like Chrysler should be more concerned about the problem and either you or the epa should encourage them to take ownership.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/12/2013

Vehicle will spit back fuel when performing a fill up (at time of filling. ). The fuel forcefully shoots out of the refuiling access point. Amount of fuel that spits back is condiderable (the better of a pint;) enough to cover the side of the vehicle, the rear bumper (as well as on myself) and will leave a consideral amount of fuel on the pavement at the gas station. I will point out that I never top off the tank. I simply fill until the fuel nozzle stops - a normal way of fueling. The "spit back" occurs within 1-2 seconds after fueiling is completed. I have checked with Chrysler, and this is a known issue. In fact, a TSB (14-001-11) as well as a warranty extension was issued for this problem, but the the extension was only issued for 2007 and 2008 models. My model (2009) is the same vehicle, however, I am not being afforded (by Chrysler) the same consideration simply due to the fact that my model year exceeds 2008. I view this as a major safety issue, especially given the fact that I at many times, I have my children in the vehicl when I need to fuel up. I truly feel this problem has not been rectified for the 2009 model year, and further believe that I should be afforded the same benefit to have this fixed at no charge - as I am experiencing the identical issue. Again, this should be addressed as it really is a safety issue. Please note that I selected that there was an "injury" due to the fact that I had been covered in gasoline, which is known to be toxic. -thank you for your help/consideration. I welcome a call to discuss further or if I can provide any more info to help.

25 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/14/2012

While filling up my gas tank I set the pump's trigger mechanism that allows for continuous flow. Prior to the automatic stopping of the pump a substantial amount of gasoline spewed out from the tank. This resulted in a trail of gasoline from my tank down the side of my vehicle and ultimately a large puddle of gasoline on the pavement.

26 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/08/2012

While fueling the vehicle, after the pump auto-shut off engages, copious amounts of fuel are propelled from the tank inlet; spilling on the vehicle, service station floor, and sometimes the driver. This recently started and has happened repeatedly since the initial time, at several stations and several pumps. Our other vehicles do not display this behavior.

27 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/08/2012

Every time I pump gas now, the pump will stop and then discharge a fairly large amount of gas. Probably around a half gallon. I feel that with these discharge of gas being every time I fill up is a safety issue and needs to be looked in to. If there is ever a spark when it discharges it will indefinitely cause a fire that has the likely hood of causing injury or death to me and whoever else is around when it happens. Also, I know that it is not only my Jeep that is having the problem. My friends Jeep does the same thing. He told me that one time the pump did not stop and gas was shooting from his gas tank.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

When filling the fuel tank, regardless of fast or slow, gas spews out of the fill port when the tank if full. Fast, it spews gas about 2 feet out from the vehicle, slow, it just runs out the filler spout without shutting the pump off. This is very dangerous as I usually loose a couple cups of fuel on the the ground every time I fill up.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/09/2012

When filling up the gas tank a large amount of fuel will spit back out of the tank. This has occurred each time I fill my tank from 3 separate gas stations. It appears to be a significant safety hazard and environmental hazard.

30 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2010 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/02/2012

When filling up gas tank, I set the pump to automatically shut off. Upon shutting off, a significant amount of gas spewed out down the side of vehicle and onto the ground. This has happened every time I have filled up since. I have tried different gas pumps and station and it has continued to happen every time I have filled up.

31 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/10/2012

Purchased my 2008 Jeep Wrangler five weeks ago. Since that time, I have filled the fuel tank 6 times. Each and every time the fuel tank has overflowed out and down the side of the body, bumper and pooled on the ground. I have tried slowing the fill rate, guessing the amount that the tank will fill to and even holding the rubber cap on the gas pump filler down tight. It makes no difference. I've been splashed in the face, and on my clothes. I've never seen this on any car I've owned in the past. I'm a professional auto/truck mechanic, this is not user error, it is a design failure of the part. A redesign and recall is in order.

32 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

When filling the vehicle up at a gas station an excessive amount of fuel will kick back out of the tank and get on the individual, the vehicle and the ground. This happens when it nears a full tank. I had the same issue on a 2007 that was recalled by Chrysler, but they tell me that they will not cover the 2009. This condition is significantly worse than my old 2007 and poses as a serious saftey concern.

33 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/15/2012

Large amounts of gasoline sprays out when refueling the vehicle. The gasoline comes out with such force that it is impossible to avoid getting gasoline on hand, arm and clothing. It occurs when the tank becomes full. At first I thought it was a problem with the gas stations pump. It was intermittent at first but now occurs every time I put gas in the vehicle regardless of which gas station pump I use. This is more than an inconvenience and should be considered a safety issue!.

34 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

When filling the fuel tank and when the gas pump automatically stops due to the tank being full, a sizeable amount of gas spills out to the pavement. It had initially begun as a sporadic occurrence a while back which I thought to be related to certain stations but for several months it has occurred every fill-up regardless of where I have gone. The amount of gas is enough that I need to clean it up at the station off the ground and around where the pump connects to the Jeep.

35 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/08/2012

I was at the gas station filling up my 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara when the click of the gas pump that lets you know your done filling the tank came on and all of a sudden gas starting overflowing in a large puddle all over the side of my Jeep. I thought it was a fluke of some sort so I didn't think much of it. Then the next time I filled up I had the same situation happen and the same amount came pouring out. After this I knew that there was a problem and I tried filling my tank slowly and it still made no difference in the spillage. I have had this issue occur numerous times since purchasing the vehicle and feel as though it should be recalled. I have contacted the dealership regarding this issue and they state that they have no knowledge of the issue. I have seen numerous other Jeep owners have the same issue. This is a safety hazard and should be an issue fixed by Chrysler.
