Within 40 miles of purchasing and departing the dealership, this brand-new 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4 door sport s experienced two severe and uncontrollable steering oscillation events (commonly known as "death wobble"). The first incident occurred on I-265 east (from I-65) in indiana after going over a standard bridge expansion joint/hump at approximately 60 mph. The steering wheel and front axle shook with such violence that vehicle control was nearly lost, necessitating emergency braking and pulling onto the shoulder. The event repeated under identical conditions within two miles. The vehicle was brought back to the dealership where tire balance, pressure, and alignment all appeared normal. Dealership took the vehicle for a test ride and was able to replicate the issue. Odometer leaving dealership: 133 miles.

While driving at highway speed, my 2018 Jeep Wrangler violently shakes in the wheel. It is unpredictable and very concerning. This is very unsafe as you have no control over this violent shaking, and you aren’t sure of what could happen. This appears to be a very common issues in the Jeeps as there are various reports of this occurring. There is no warning lamps, messages, etc. When this occurs. This is a very big safety issue that needs to be addressed. After taking it to get looked at, I was made aware this could occur for several reasons in the car. All of these reasons should be addressed and fixed as this is a very known issue.

This compliant is based on the manufactures unwillingness to provide a rental car despite the fact the car is in the shop now for over a week. They have stated in writing that they will not provide a rental car or alternative transportation until the repair for NHTSA recall number 25v-766 or 78c is determined. This leads me without a usable vehicle for an unknown period of time and their refusal to provide a rental in the main time while the vehicle is under factory warranty is a dereliction of their responsibility to provide a working product to the customer. I have a call with the manufacturer fca which is #95240670.
Death wobble really bad.

Steering death wobble, usually on bumpy type of roads. Has improved some after front end alignment. No safety risks so far but very scary. Dealer has not been able to reproduce it, only happens so often. No, only a mechanic shop has looked at the vehicle. No warning lights or messages came on before.

Two issues that I want to make known. First is a classic Jeep issue with the death wobble. I currently have the Jeep back in the shop for the current recall and having them fix the wobbling again. This would be the second time that it has happened. Worried because the warranty is about to expire. Next is a problem that I almost forgot about until recently because I started driving a rental Jeep Wrangler. With my Jeep, when I have the adaptive cruse control on, it some times thinks there is a car in front of me when it is in the next lane, and right in the middle of the highway, my Jeep tries to stop because there is a car next to me in its own lane. This has been going on for a while now but I have never gotten it looked at because of the cost. Im going to have both issues looked at during the recall because my extended warranty is ending and im worried that if I dont get it fixed now, im going to have to pay more in the future. Side notes about my Jeep, it was a buy back before I purchased it. Was supposedly fixed. At around 10k miles I had a radiator issue and then needed to have a complete engine replacement. With both of these battery recalls, I have had to get a new battery. Im about to get by 3rd. There has also been hvac issues fixed in the past. I tried to contact Jeep about another buy back, but they denied the claim without even talking to me. Currently working on trying to actually talk to someone.
When going over a bump the Jeep goes into a "death wobble". This was fixed approximately 3 years ago. It now has started again.
Vehicle information: make: Jeep model: Wrangler model year: 2007 VIN: [xxx] safety recall information: NHTSA campaign 16v-290 manufacturer recall number: s33 component: airbag / clock spring this recall was previously performed by a dealership in February 2021; however, the vehicle is now experiencing the same symptoms the recall was intended to address, indicating the safety defect has reoccurred or was not permanently remedied. The vehicle is currently experiencing: illuminated airbag (srs) warning light horn failure traction control / electronic stability program warning light erratic or abnormal a/c behavior that coincides with the srs/steering wheel electrical faults these failures are consistent with a defective clock spring and directly impact the supplemental restraint system and other active safety systems. I contacted an authorized Jeep dealership to request inspection and repair of this recurring safety defect. The dealership confirmed the recall had been previously completed but refused to diagnose or repair the vehicle, stating in writing: “due to company policy, we are unable to perform diagnostic or repair services on vehicles that are more than 10 years old. ” they further stated that because the recall was marked as completed in 2021, they would not assist further and recommended I seek an independent repair facility. I believe this refusal violates the intent and requirements of the national traffic and motor vehicle safety act (49 u. S. C. §§ 30118–30120), which requires manufacturers to remedy safety defects and does not allow age-based or policy-based refusal when a safety defect exists or reoccurs. This defect involves the airbag system and active safety features and presents an ongoing risk to vehicle occupants. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in reviewing this matter and ensuring that the manufacturer and/or authorized dealer fulfills their obligation to properly remedy this safety defect. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 5.

The Jeep lost power while I was driving. The lights stayed on but Jeep came to a stop. I touched the key area and it started running again.
I was driving on the interstate and when I went over a little bump my truck started to shake like it was going to loose control. I read up on this and people who own Jeeps refer to it as the death waddle is there a recall on this issue.

My wife and I were driving to the dealer to have a safety recall service performed on her Jeep Wrangler 4xe. We had just merged onto the highway, I was in my car, behind my wife in her Jeep. Less than a mile onto the highway, my wife suddenly slowed down and moved to the right lane. As she moved over to the right lane, I saw her front tire violently wobbling back and forth. We slowed down to 30mph on the highway and after approximately 30 seconds the problem seemed to resolve. We limped our way to the exit (about another mile) and to the dealer about 1/4 mile off the highway. When my wife got out of the car she was still shaking, rattled by what had just happened. When we described what happened to the service center they responded "OH, you had the death wobble. " after some research, I watched several videos about the death wobble, which confirmed what I had just seen. What if my wife had panicked and pulled over into another car in the right lane? what if she was on a small 2 lane highway and veered off the road and down an embankment? there were no warning lights or messages on the vehicle indicating any problem prior to this happening. This happened with zero warning and was terrifying to watch, let alone my poor wife experiencing first hand. The Jeep dealership has run diagnostics and report it is a bad steering damper. More than 3 weeks later the car remains at the dealership, awaiting repair of not only that, but also the safety recall fix for the hybrid battery. Communication from the dealership has been vague and suspicious in my opinion. They repeatedly have said they are waiting to hear from Jeep on what to do next. My research indicates a previous class action suit relating to this "death wobble" issue on previous models. How does something this dangerous still happen on a 2023 model car with 19000 miles in 2025. I'm shocked at how casually the dealer and manufacturer have addressed this issue.

In the last month my wife and I have 4 experiences with an extreme vibration and wobble in the front end of my Jeep while driving on the highway. The vibration is violent and the last time it seemed as if the wheels were going to come off my 2021 Jeep Wrangler. Once I slow down the to a lower speed, 45 mph for example, the wobble stops but it seems to be a problem with many Wranglers based upon my research. I am going to schedule an appointment with a dealer to have this investigated but I have less than 35,000 miles on my Jeep and it seems to be a manufacturer issue. There are no warning lights that indicate I may have any kind of problem.
The power steering system experienced a sudden failure while the vehicle was in motion. Steering assist was lost without warning, causing a significant and immediate increase in steering effort. This created a serious safety hazard and I nearly lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle is a 2021 Jeep Wrangler rubicon with approximately 31,000 miles. There were no warning lights, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure. The loss of power steering occurred unexpectedly while driving. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Jeep dealership, where the issue was confirmed. The dealer stated the failure was related to two communication bus lines associated with the power steering system. The dealer is refusing warranty coverage and has quoted approximately $1,000 for repair. The failure directly impacted my ability to safely control the vehicle and posed a risk of crash, injury, or death to myself and others on the road. The vehicle is currently available for inspection upon request. The issue has been confirmed by the dealer, and no inspection by the manufacturer or other third parties has occurred at this time.
Concern: suspension, steering, and electrical system malfunction description of the problem: while driving at highway speeds (approximately 75 mph), the vehicle experiences a wiggling or unstable sensation in the suspension, making the car feel unsafe. At the same time, the steering wheel becomes stiff and difficult to turn. Additionally, a warning message appears stating “service shifter. ” when this occurs, the electrical system freezes, affecting vehicle functions. This electrical malfunction lasts for 1 to 2 days, during which systems do not respond properly before eventually resetting on their own. Safety concern: the suspension instability, loss of steering responsiveness, and electrical failure at high speeds present a serious safety risk to the driver and others on the road. Request: requesting a full inspection of the suspension, steering system, shifter system, and electrical components, including any sensors or modules that may be causing these failures.
It states that our vehicle is not on the recall list for death wobble, however, when we go over a bump or over 60 mph our Jeep vibrates and shakes (feeling it in the steering). We took to have tires checked, even rebalanced and they checked stems.
I'm experiencing a known Jeep issue called the "death wobble". I only have 17800 miles on the vehicle and I'm 6 months out of warranty. When this vehicle gets into the death wobble mood it becomes totally uncontrollable and extremely unsafe to drive. The driver needs to slow down to under 40mph or to a complete stop for it to stop. You can be driving at 65 mph and the vehicle will go into convulsions, I feel it is so dangerous I will not allow my wife to drive it.

For a few weeks prior to 12-21-2025, I've experienced minor Jeep "death wobble" (suspension issue) at highway speeds when encountering an irregularity (bump) in the road surface. On 12-21-2025, I experienced moderate Jeep "death wobble" at around 60 mph (several times). On a desert 2 lane highway, I was seriously in danger of running off the road to the right (crashing into rock faces bigger than the car) or running into oncoming traffic to the left. I was about an hour away from home and was able to reproduce the problem. I found that the issue was minimized if I kept it under 58 mph. Unfortunately, this motivated many drivers to dangerously pass me. The next day, I took it to the local off-road mechanic and they determined it was a worn tie-rod and recommended replacing the tie rod and installing/upgrading the steering stabilizer. From what I have read during my research is that those are band aid approaches to a more serious engineering/design issue with the Jeep Wrangler. I've further learned that fiat-Chrysler (or the current owner) has continued to address the issue that has been problematic for decades. There are no recalls for my vehicle and the relevant tsbs I could find apply to older models (latest I saw was 2020 jl). However, it's clear the issue has not been resolved on my more current model (2021 Jeep Wrangler rubicon jl). The vehicle is available for your inspection.
Loss of motor power recall has been present since October 17, 2025 - #25v710. This is an issue that started with our specific Jeep prior to this recall. It is January now and no remedy has been found. The manufacturer will not provide a loaner or rental for us even though the car has shut off on us personally on multiple occasions. They asked us to take it into the dealer to perform a diagnostic, they are unable to reproduce the shut-off issue we've experienced and have told us there is nothing they can do at this time. I looked up at your website and see there is an "interim corrective action" that has been implemented to avoid loss of motive power using an update to the backend policy while a final remedy is still under development. When I asked the dealer to either confirm if they at least performed the interim corrective action or if they can guarantee we will not experience loss of power anymore. I was told they could not answer the question and that they did not have anything they could perform on the vehicle at this time and told us we can pick it up. Again, this issue has happened to us personally on multiple occasions and have been fortunate that it's only happened on residential streets thus far. We do not feel safe to drive the car around on a daily basis and just hope the car doesn't shut off again in a more dangerous situation until a remedy is found. We originally brought this car into the dealer for a similar issue on October 14th - the dealer updated some software and gave us the car back on October 16th. By October 18th, we had a check engine light come up again and on October 19th, the car would not start on occasions again. Again they took it and said they did a software update to it. The shut off issue persisted again in December when we stopped driving the car and were able to get a rental from them for the 25v-741 issue but they are saying because they themselves cannot replicate our 25v710, they can't help us again and no fixes are available.
On Monday, December 15th at approximately 4:30pm, after having turned east onto highway 556, aka roy avenue, accelerating to the speed limit of 45 mph, I crossed over a "seam" connecting the roadway to the bridge, which immediately set off the infamous "death wobble" on my 2024 Jeep Wrangler jlu. I was unable to control the vehicle, and I had to slow down while wrestling with the steering so that I could pull off to the right hand side of the road. Had I not been able to react in such a quick manner, I could have easily collided with oncoming traffic, killed or injured others, or been killed myself. I took the vehicle to the dealer two days later, who said that the issue was a "steering stabilizer", which appears to be the default response from stellantis as all steering stabilizers are on back-order. There were no warning lights, no indicators that this event was imminent and the dealership indicated that all other parts were in normal working order.
“violent steering oscillation / loss of steering control at highway speeds” speed when it occurs (usually 45–70 mph) trigger (bumps, bridge joints, potholes) it requires slowing significantly to regain control. “this is consistent with Jeep’s known steering damper failure causing death wobble. I requested evaluation under Jeep’s known corrective actions. ”.
I own a 2022 Jeep Wrangler. On 12/13/2025 while driving 50 - 60 mph, the vehicle started shaking/vibrating violently after going over bumps, in what I've heard is the "death wobble". The steering wheel did not shake as much as the entire vehicle shook. Which recurred several times while driving, feeling as if the Jeep would lost control and crash. The vehicle is scheduled to be taken to my mechanic who stated that it was the steering damper leading to other steering issues.
This is a 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe. It currently has 22,700 miles on it. These issues began prior to 20,000 miles. The car stops driving with out warning. This has occurred on three occasions, while driving in traffic. It locks up, but power is still working. A message pops up that says put the vehicle in drive. . . Which it already is. It comes to an abrupt stop. It will not regain power. You have to power on and off multiple times to get it to start. Recently it failed to start (engine). Again, had full power, but the engine would not start. It also will not charge fully to 100%. The display screen will bling or go black, with no power. The steering wheel will shake uncontrollably while driving over 65-70 mph. These issues began in summer 2025. One incident was in sept. Oct, Nov, and Dec 13 was the last.
Steering wheel electrical failure. Melted wiring inside steering wheel. Potential airbag and steering safety failure. Serious safety defect. Fire risk! while getting ready to leave a retail parking lot with heated steering wheel on, we became overwhelmed with fumes. Noticed the steering wheel was hot. Immediately shut off the car and opened the doors. When the fumes subsided, started the car and made sure the heated steering wheel was off. It no longer worked at all, when car was re-started. This could have been life threatening had we been traveling on the highway and not in a parking lot. Took vehicle to our dealer- central Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge for repair. Dealer service advisor unable to diagnose exact cause due to extent of damage. Also commented shock that we didn’t experience a fire that could have caused the airbag to explode as well. Service advisor stated steering wheel heating element short and steering wheel wiring to clock spring melted due to excessive heat in circuit. I requested photos. I received one photo. I do not believe there were further inspections. Repairs were completed at my expense. Both dealership and stellantis refuse to cover the cost of repairs citing I had no warranty coverage. I believe this goes beyond normal wear and tear. I did smell something mild, like sugar burning earlier in our errands yet it dissipated quickly and I assumed it was outside, in the air. It wasn’t until the overwhelm of fumes upon starting the car in a retail parking lot that we became aware there was a serious problem and immediately turned the car off.
Filing this complaint regarding a known safety defect affecting my 2019 Jeep Wrangler sport - specifically the steering damper column defect commonly referred to as "death wobble. " issue: my vehicle experiences violent and uncontrollable steering wheel oscillation when hitting bumps or road imperfections at highway speeds (typically above 55 mph). This phenomenon causes the entire front end to shake violently, requiring me to immediately slow down to regain control of the vehicle. This poses an extreme safety risk to myself, my passengers, and other motorists. I believe my vehicle has an issue with steering damper failure - the exact same defect addressed in customer satisfaction notification v41 issued by fca in June 2019. The problem: while fca issued csn v41 covering approximately 192,000 2018-2019 Jeep Wranglers for steering damper defects, however my VIN was excluded from this notification despite experiencing the identical safety defect. Fca selectively applied the remedy to certain vins rather than addressing all affected vehicles from these model years. Safety concerns: this defect creates loss of vehicle control at highway speeds, significantly increasing crash risk. The NHTSA investigation (pe19-012) identified frame weld quality deficiencies and steering-related defects in 2018-2019 Wranglers affecting approximately 270,000 vehicles. Multiple investigations have documented steering looseness, steering wobble/shimmy, and loss of steering control in these model years. Manufacturer refusal: despite the known defect and my vehicle exhibiting the exact symptoms addressed in csn v41, I believe once I take it in for service, Jeep will refuse to repair this safety issue under warranty, forcing me to bear the financial burden for a known manufacturing defect. Request: I request NHTSA investigate why fca limited csn v41 to select vins when the defect clearly affects a broader population of 2018-2019 Wranglers.
Abs control module defective per dealer diagnostics (110 bucks) , abs light on, brake light on, traction control light on , little car on downhill slope, safety issues are driving without brake control and steering, parts on back order alot of people flooding internet with same issue, as well as oil cooler, who puts plastic in the middle of a hot motor and thinks that wont break, that should have been a recall that was 1000 replacement now 1400 part replacement because it has to be done at dealer.

My 2021 Jeep Wrangler has the well known "death wobble". Jeep isn't taking this very serious safety concern seriously. When speed increases to 70 mph the Jeep shakes uncontrollably and you must slow down almost to a stop to regulate again. This should be a recall! huge safety issue. If you google Jeep death wobble you could read for days how many Jeep owners are experiencing this issue. There apparently is a recall for older Jeeps, but unfortunately Jeep did not fix the issue and the 2021 Jeeps are also affected. It's time to put a recall on the 2021 Jeep Wranglers and fix the death wobble.
I am filing this complaint regarding the serious safety hazard associated with the fire-risk recall on my 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe. The official manufacturer recall letter states: “the high-voltage battery may become damaged under normal operation which could lead to a vehicle fire. ” the recall instructions also direct me fully discharge the high-voltage battery not charge the vehicle park the vehicle away from all structures because of the fire risk this indicates that the vehicle may spontaneously catch fire even when driven or stored as intended. I currently cannot safely store or use this vehicle at my residence. I am a 100% permanently and totally disabled marine corps veteran with ptsd, and this fire hazard and the required parking instructions significantly worsen my medical condition. There is no available remedy or repair at this time. I am requesting that NHTSA document this hazard, investigate stellantis’ handling of this recall, and ensure owner protection given the severity of the fire risk and lack of resolution.
The contact owns a 2020 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle experienced the "death wobble". The contact stated that the front end of the vehicle violently shuddered and vibrated. The contact stated that the failure had occurred while driving on uneven pavement on two separate occasions. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 60,000.
The steering wheel started to shake and then escalated to the whole car shaking at which time I had to stop the vehicle on the highway to make it stop shaking. This isn’t the first time this has happened.
The Jeep goes into a death wobble when it encounters small bumps at speeds above 55mph. It begins shaking violently and forces you to brake quickly. This make it very dangerous to drive on highways or interstates.
While driving at highway speeds, the wheel started to wobble uncontrollably for 20-30 seconds. I lost fine control of steering had maneuver to the shoulder as I reduced speed the wobble immediately stopped. This is extremely disconcerting and dangerous. I noticed this happening months ago but wasn't sure if it was rough patches in the road or speed bumps. But almost losing control confirmed it was the vehicle.
While driving at highway speeds 40 and over vehicle may begin to experience “death wobble” where deceleration and sudden stopping is required. It becomes very hard to control vehicle and loss of control may be possible. Vehicle violently shakes from front end after minor bump or skip in roadway. Although reporting for first time now has happened several times since I have owned the vehicle.
The 1st time it happened I was getting on highway and went over a crack in road and my Jeep started vibrating violently. Totally scared me but once I slowed down it stopped so I figured it was a fluke thing. My hubby drove it to seattle and going 70 he went over grooved pavement and the shaking happened again. Third times a charm at 65 and didn't go over anything and it scared the crap out of me so bad I slowed down to 30 in a 60 in order for it to stop. Immediately contacted dealership and was told it would be hundreds of dollars and it isn't covered under warranty. I bought this Jeep brand new, only has 41,000miles and dont beat her up on off road because she is my daily driver. This violently shaking is scary and this could really do a new driver some harm and needs to be addressed and fixed in all Jeep vehicles.
While driving on the highway my Jeep lost speed and power steering. All the warning lights flashed on and off while dinging. Dealership can't get a code to see what the problem is to fix correctly. Jeep has 2 dangerous recalls that could catch fire while driving or sitting. Both issues put my life at risk. Stellantis denied buy back.
While driving at highway speed on November 11, 2025, my 2021 Jeep Wrangler experienced a sudden and complete electrical failure without warning. A “battery saver mode” message appeared, and within seconds multiple safety systems began shutting down. First failure: while driving on the highway and exiting, the vehicle abruptly lost power steering, abs, stability control, airbag system, exterior lighting, dashboard displays, and engine power. Multiple warning lamps illuminated at once. Steering and braking became extremely difficult, creating an immediate safety risk. I was able to coast to a stop and park. The vehicle then appeared stable and the messages cleared. Second failure: after restarting the vehicle, the warning reappeared. While driving on a major high-traffic roadway, the vehicle experienced a total electrical shutdown in active traffic and would not restart. Third failure: a towing service attempted to jump-start the vehicle; it briefly powered on, illuminated nearly every warning light, then immediately shut down again with the radiator fan running at full speed. The electrical system continued to collapse and the vehicle required a full tow. Inspection and diagnosis: the dealership confirmed a complete alternator and charging system failure at approximately 36,419 miles. This failure occurred at only 4 years of age, which is unusually early for an alternator or charging system failure. The vehicle’s original battery also failed unusually early (at only 2. 5 years old) without warning, which may have been an early indication of a charging system issue. The vehicle is lightly used, garage-kept, never off-roaded, and regularly maintained. The sudden loss of steering assist, braking assist, airbags, lighting, and engine power at speed and in high-traffic areas created an extreme safety risk for myself and others. This appears to be a premature electrical system failure and may relate to broader charging system concerns reported in similar vehicles.
