Driving at highway speed (65-70mph) on curve with slight road surface deviation experienced the infamous "death wobble". Slowed to 45-50 mph before vehicle steering returned to normal. The steering dampener was previously replaced to fix the first time this happened. Apparently this is not a fox.

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Wrangler. The contact while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle experienced the death wobble. No warning light was illuminated. A dealer was contacted. The contact pulled over twice and drove 65 mph on the way to the residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering damper and tie rod needed to be replaced. The steering damper and tie rod were replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. However, the failure reoccurred several times. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 28,998.
While driving on roads I would characterize as good, our 2021 Jeep wrangle has exhibited what is widely know as the "death wobble". 1st time was when vehicle has approximately 10,000 miles and it was noted as being severe, dangerous and very scary. 2nd and 3rd time time and with the same road conditions, it occurred. Mileage was 20,000 and 21,000. On March 13th, and with 23,702 miles, we serviced the vehicle to address a known issue with water pump coolant leak and I explained the front wheel steering "wobble issue". They reviewed, test drove and found no issues with it. 3 miles after picking up vehicle, and at approximate 50 mph, the unit went into a major wobble condition. I immediately returned to the dealership. Technician recommended steering stabilizer and I was told 9/10 times this fixes the "shake". Service team also explained this is a fairly widespread concern with Jeep Wrangler. I consider this a major risk to me, my family and other drivers around me/vehicle. Only my wife and I have experienced the condition. Dealer was unable to duplicate. No other warning lights or fail conditions are available. On youtube, search Jeep death wobble and you will be able to see and witness the condition. Its spot-on. Links below. We have had the death wobble happen several times when driving. It was so violently shaking we tried to stop quick on a 75 mph hiway. Very dangerous and scary. This has happened many times over the last month. Had wheels realignment and new shocks. Still happening.
Vehicle communication failures. One point unable to start the vehicle. Then the wipers and all warning lights came on without being able to turn the vehile off. Had to disconnect both batteries while the wipers destroyed themselves on a dry windshield. This is also causing a service shifter warning light then total loss of power steering while driving down the road at any speed. This includes highway speeds. Dealer replaced power steering system with no resolution. Thousands of dollars in repair. Dealer stated they repaired wiring. Did not fix the issue. Now it is more intermittent. When the communication between modules is not functioning properly it disables the power steering even while driving. This is extremely dangerous and I can no longer trust my vehicle. There are thousands of reports and or reviews about this issue. Someone has to be held accountable. I have spent thousands and my dealer spent weeks trying to resolve the issue. Jeep has roughly 37000 miles. This is an on going issue since October of 2025.
At speeds around 50 mph the steering wheel will "lock up" and become extremely difficult to steer if not impossible. Lowering speed to 28 mph will suddenly jolt the steering back to normal causing extremely dangerous steering response with a danger of over correcting once steering assist is regained. Dealer has not been able to replicate the issue and cannot find anything wrong with the vehicle. This has happened multiple times nearly resulting in a head on collision 2 separate times.

The contact owns a 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle drove over a bump in the road, and the vehicle started to wobble and shake violently. The contact slowed down and stopped the vehicle. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the steering dampener needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated had experienced the failure several years prior. The vehicle was repaired under warranty; however, the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.
My Jeep steering wheel and entire vehicle shake violently at high speeds and after a bump.
Safety concern – steering instability / death wobble – 2021 Jeep Wrangler sahara to whom it may concern, I own a 2021 Jeep Wrangler sahara with approximately 30,000 miles. I am writing to formally document and request a resolution for a recurring and severe steering instability commonly referred to as “death wobble. ” the vehicle experiences violent front-end oscillation after encountering normal road conditions (e. G. , highway speeds and minor road irregularities). This condition poses a significant safety risk to me, passengers, and other drivers. This issue has been widely documented in Jeep Wrangler models and addressed in various technical service bulletins concerning steering dampers, ball joints, track bars, and front suspension components. Given the known history of this condition in Jeep vehicles, I am requesting: a full diagnostic inspection of all steering and suspension components. Confirmation of any applicable technical service bulletins. Repair or replacement of defective components at no cost. Written documentation of findings and repairs. This vehicle has been properly maintained and has low mileage for its model year. A violent steering oscillation at highway speed is not normal wear and tear — it is a safety defect. If this issue cannot be resolved under warranty or goodwill assistance, I will pursue escalation through stellantis customer care, the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA), and applicable consumer protection or lemon law provisions. I am requesting written confirmation of how this matter will be addressed. Sincerely, cindy rossbach 29872 milby drive easton, MD 21601 410-829-2098 ccr29872@yahoo. Com VIN: 1c4hjxenomw771106.
My Jeep Wrangler abs module has failed and needs to be replaced. But Jeep decided not to make this part anymore and now me and a lot of others can’t get a new abs module. My Jeep is way too dangerous to drive now. When accelerating from a stop the vehicle barely kicks in like the tires don’t know what direction to move. When I’m coming to a stop the breaks don’t work right due to the abs module. This is a big safety concern and Jeep needs to be held accountable and fix this issue. This is a major issue and needs to addressed before people get into accidents. I’m sure some people already have.

There is a class action lawsuit for 2021-2023 Jeeps where the power steering catches fire. That happened to us.
Within 40 miles of purchasing and departing the dealership, this brand-new 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4 door sport s experienced two severe and uncontrollable steering oscillation events (commonly known as "death wobble"). The first incident occurred on I-265 east (from I-65) in indiana after going over a standard bridge expansion joint/hump at approximately 60 mph. The steering wheel and front axle shook with such violence that vehicle control was nearly lost, necessitating emergency braking and pulling onto the shoulder. The event repeated under identical conditions within two miles. The vehicle was brought back to the dealership where tire balance, pressure, and alignment all appeared normal. Dealership took the vehicle for a test ride and was able to replicate the issue. Odometer leaving dealership: 133 miles.

While driving at highway speed, my 2018 Jeep Wrangler violently shakes in the wheel. It is unpredictable and very concerning. This is very unsafe as you have no control over this violent shaking, and you aren’t sure of what could happen. This appears to be a very common issues in the Jeeps as there are various reports of this occurring. There is no warning lamps, messages, etc. When this occurs. This is a very big safety issue that needs to be addressed. After taking it to get looked at, I was made aware this could occur for several reasons in the car. All of these reasons should be addressed and fixed as this is a very known issue.
On multiple, though infrequent occasions, while beginning a turn in our 2018 Jeep Wrangler jl, the steering wheel, abruptly and without warning, stops turning. The turn cannot be completed without exerting significant force on the wheel to overcome the resistance. This is very dangerous, especially when moving at highway speeds, as drivers may find themselves unable to stay on the road or worse, to avoid oncoming traffic. When we first reported this problem to a Jeep dealer in 2018-2019, we were repeatedly told that they were unaware of the problem we described, and since they couldn’t reproduce the malfunction, they could not effect any repair. Over time, the problem worsened, not with more frequency but with more and more force being required to overcome the steering wheel resistance - increasing the likelihood that one might inadvertently oversteer when breaking through that resistance. After a recent incident that could have caused a serious accident, we looked online and found that ours was not an uncommon problem. There are numerous reports describing this very issue on the carcomplaints. Com website. And Jeep actually issued a technical service bulletin in 2018 (TSB 08-092-18) that not only describes the problem, but also the fix. So Jeep not only knew about the problem, but they knew how to fix it and did not do so when we were under warranty. Now they are saying the fix will cost us literally thousands of dollars. This issue is dangerous and should have been under a mandatory recall from day one.
At any speed above 50 mph the steering violently shakes if I hit bridge seams, cracks, or potholes. At speeds about 60 it's significantly worse and around 40 it still wobbles for ~3/4 of a second.
This compliant is based on the manufactures unwillingness to provide a rental car despite the fact the car is in the shop now for over a week. They have stated in writing that they will not provide a rental car or alternative transportation until the repair for NHTSA recall number 25v-766 or 78c is determined. This leads me without a usable vehicle for an unknown period of time and their refusal to provide a rental in the main time while the vehicle is under factory warranty is a dereliction of their responsibility to provide a working product to the customer. I have a call with the manufacturer fca which is #95240670.
Death wobble. Dealership that has it now (campbell chevorlet in bowing green ky) knows and fails to fix or report it.

Death wobble really bad.
Steering death wobble, usually on bumpy type of roads. Has improved some after front end alignment. No safety risks so far but very scary. Dealer has not been able to reproduce it, only happens so often. No, only a mechanic shop has looked at the vehicle. No warning lights or messages came on before.
Two issues that I want to make known. First is a classic Jeep issue with the death wobble. I currently have the Jeep back in the shop for the current recall and having them fix the wobbling again. This would be the second time that it has happened. Worried because the warranty is about to expire. Next is a problem that I almost forgot about until recently because I started driving a rental Jeep Wrangler. With my Jeep, when I have the adaptive cruse control on, it some times thinks there is a car in front of me when it is in the next lane, and right in the middle of the highway, my Jeep tries to stop because there is a car next to me in its own lane. This has been going on for a while now but I have never gotten it looked at because of the cost. Im going to have both issues looked at during the recall because my extended warranty is ending and im worried that if I dont get it fixed now, im going to have to pay more in the future. Side notes about my Jeep, it was a buy back before I purchased it. Was supposedly fixed. At around 10k miles I had a radiator issue and then needed to have a complete engine replacement. With both of these battery recalls, I have had to get a new battery. Im about to get by 3rd. There has also been hvac issues fixed in the past. I tried to contact Jeep about another buy back, but they denied the claim without even talking to me. Currently working on trying to actually talk to someone.
When going over a bump the Jeep goes into a "death wobble". This was fixed approximately 3 years ago. It now has started again.
Vehicle information: make: Jeep model: Wrangler model year: 2007 VIN: [xxx] safety recall information: NHTSA campaign 16v-290 manufacturer recall number: s33 component: airbag / clock spring this recall was previously performed by a dealership in February 2021; however, the vehicle is now experiencing the same symptoms the recall was intended to address, indicating the safety defect has reoccurred or was not permanently remedied. The vehicle is currently experiencing: illuminated airbag (srs) warning light horn failure traction control / electronic stability program warning light erratic or abnormal a/c behavior that coincides with the srs/steering wheel electrical faults these failures are consistent with a defective clock spring and directly impact the supplemental restraint system and other active safety systems. I contacted an authorized Jeep dealership to request inspection and repair of this recurring safety defect. The dealership confirmed the recall had been previously completed but refused to diagnose or repair the vehicle, stating in writing: “due to company policy, we are unable to perform diagnostic or repair services on vehicles that are more than 10 years old. ” they further stated that because the recall was marked as completed in 2021, they would not assist further and recommended I seek an independent repair facility. I believe this refusal violates the intent and requirements of the national traffic and motor vehicle safety act (49 u. S. C. §§ 30118–30120), which requires manufacturers to remedy safety defects and does not allow age-based or policy-based refusal when a safety defect exists or reoccurs. This defect involves the airbag system and active safety features and presents an ongoing risk to vehicle occupants. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in reviewing this matter and ensuring that the manufacturer and/or authorized dealer fulfills their obligation to properly remedy this safety defect. The Jeep lost power while I was driving. The lights stayed on but Jeep came to a stop. I touched the key area and it started running again.
I was driving on the interstate and when I went over a little bump my truck started to shake like it was going to loose control. I read up on this and people who own Jeeps refer to it as the death waddle is there a recall on this issue.

My wife and I were driving to the dealer to have a safety recall service performed on her Jeep Wrangler 4xe. We had just merged onto the highway, I was in my car, behind my wife in her Jeep. Less than a mile onto the highway, my wife suddenly slowed down and moved to the right lane. As she moved over to the right lane, I saw her front tire violently wobbling back and forth. We slowed down to 30mph on the highway and after approximately 30 seconds the problem seemed to resolve. We limped our way to the exit (about another mile) and to the dealer about 1/4 mile off the highway. When my wife got out of the car she was still shaking, rattled by what had just happened. When we described what happened to the service center they responded "OH, you had the death wobble. " after some research, I watched several videos about the death wobble, which confirmed what I had just seen. What if my wife had panicked and pulled over into another car in the right lane? what if she was on a small 2 lane highway and veered off the road and down an embankment? there were no warning lights or messages on the vehicle indicating any problem prior to this happening. This happened with zero warning and was terrifying to watch, let alone my poor wife experiencing first hand. The Jeep dealership has run diagnostics and report it is a bad steering damper. More than 3 weeks later the car remains at the dealership, awaiting repair of not only that, but also the safety recall fix for the hybrid battery. Communication from the dealership has been vague and suspicious in my opinion. They repeatedly have said they are waiting to hear from Jeep on what to do next. My research indicates a previous class action suit relating to this "death wobble" issue on previous models. How does something this dangerous still happen on a 2023 model car with 19000 miles in 2025. I'm shocked at how casually the dealer and manufacturer have addressed this issue.

In the last month my wife and I have 4 experiences with an extreme vibration and wobble in the front end of my Jeep while driving on the highway. The vibration is violent and the last time it seemed as if the wheels were going to come off my 2021 Jeep Wrangler. Once I slow down the to a lower speed, 45 mph for example, the wobble stops but it seems to be a problem with many Wranglers based upon my research. I am going to schedule an appointment with a dealer to have this investigated but I have less than 35,000 miles on my Jeep and it seems to be a manufacturer issue. There are no warning lights that indicate I may have any kind of problem.
The power steering system experienced a sudden failure while the vehicle was in motion. Steering assist was lost without warning, causing a significant and immediate increase in steering effort. This created a serious safety hazard and I nearly lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle is a 2021 Jeep Wrangler rubicon with approximately 31,000 miles. There were no warning lights, messages, or symptoms prior to the failure. The loss of power steering occurred unexpectedly while driving. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Jeep dealership, where the issue was confirmed. The dealer stated the failure was related to two communication bus lines associated with the power steering system. The dealer is refusing warranty coverage and has quoted approximately $1,000 for repair. The failure directly impacted my ability to safely control the vehicle and posed a risk of crash, injury, or death to myself and others on the road. The vehicle is currently available for inspection upon request. The issue has been confirmed by the dealer, and no inspection by the manufacturer or other third parties has occurred at this time.
Concern: suspension, steering, and electrical system malfunction description of the problem: while driving at highway speeds (approximately 75 mph), the vehicle experiences a wiggling or unstable sensation in the suspension, making the car feel unsafe. At the same time, the steering wheel becomes stiff and difficult to turn. Additionally, a warning message appears stating “service shifter. ” when this occurs, the electrical system freezes, affecting vehicle functions. This electrical malfunction lasts for 1 to 2 days, during which systems do not respond properly before eventually resetting on their own. Safety concern: the suspension instability, loss of steering responsiveness, and electrical failure at high speeds present a serious safety risk to the driver and others on the road. Request: requesting a full inspection of the suspension, steering system, shifter system, and electrical components, including any sensors or modules that may be causing these failures.
It states that our vehicle is not on the recall list for death wobble, however, when we go over a bump or over 60 mph our Jeep vibrates and shakes (feeling it in the steering). We took to have tires checked, even rebalanced and they checked stems.
I'm experiencing a known Jeep issue called the "death wobble". I only have 17800 miles on the vehicle and I'm 6 months out of warranty. When this vehicle gets into the death wobble mood it becomes totally uncontrollable and extremely unsafe to drive. The driver needs to slow down to under 40mph or to a complete stop for it to stop. You can be driving at 65 mph and the vehicle will go into convulsions, I feel it is so dangerous I will not allow my wife to drive it.
For a few weeks prior to 12-21-2025, I've experienced minor Jeep "death wobble" (suspension issue) at highway speeds when encountering an irregularity (bump) in the road surface. On 12-21-2025, I experienced moderate Jeep "death wobble" at around 60 mph (several times). On a desert 2 lane highway, I was seriously in danger of running off the road to the right (crashing into rock faces bigger than the car) or running into oncoming traffic to the left. I was about an hour away from home and was able to reproduce the problem. I found that the issue was minimized if I kept it under 58 mph. Unfortunately, this motivated many drivers to dangerously pass me. The next day, I took it to the local off-road mechanic and they determined it was a worn tie-rod and recommended replacing the tie rod and installing/upgrading the steering stabilizer. From what I have read during my research is that those are band aid approaches to a more serious engineering/design issue with the Jeep Wrangler. I've further learned that fiat-Chrysler (or the current owner) has continued to address the issue that has been problematic for decades. There are no recalls for my vehicle and the relevant tsbs I could find apply to older models (latest I saw was 2020 jl). However, it's clear the issue has not been resolved on my more current model (2021 Jeep Wrangler rubicon jl). The vehicle is available for your inspection.
Loss of motor power recall has been present since October 17, 2025 - #25v710. This is an issue that started with our specific Jeep prior to this recall. It is January now and no remedy has been found. The manufacturer will not provide a loaner or rental for us even though the car has shut off on us personally on multiple occasions. They asked us to take it into the dealer to perform a diagnostic, they are unable to reproduce the shut-off issue we've experienced and have told us there is nothing they can do at this time. I looked up at your website and see there is an "interim corrective action" that has been implemented to avoid loss of motive power using an update to the backend policy while a final remedy is still under development. When I asked the dealer to either confirm if they at least performed the interim corrective action or if they can guarantee we will not experience loss of power anymore. I was told they could not answer the question and that they did not have anything they could perform on the vehicle at this time and told us we can pick it up. Again, this issue has happened to us personally on multiple occasions and have been fortunate that it's only happened on residential streets thus far. We do not feel safe to drive the car around on a daily basis and just hope the car doesn't shut off again in a more dangerous situation until a remedy is found. We originally brought this car into the dealer for a similar issue on October 14th - the dealer updated some software and gave us the car back on October 16th. By October 18th, we had a check engine light come up again and on October 19th, the car would not start on occasions again. Again they took it and said they did a software update to it. The shut off issue persisted again in December when we stopped driving the car and were able to get a rental from them for the 25v-741 issue but they are saying because they themselves cannot replicate our 25v710, they can't help us again and no fixes are available.
On Monday, December 15th at approximately 4:30pm, after having turned east onto highway 556, aka roy avenue, accelerating to the speed limit of 45 mph, I crossed over a "seam" connecting the roadway to the bridge, which immediately set off the infamous "death wobble" on my 2024 Jeep Wrangler jlu. I was unable to control the vehicle, and I had to slow down while wrestling with the steering so that I could pull off to the right hand side of the road. Had I not been able to react in such a quick manner, I could have easily collided with oncoming traffic, killed or injured others, or been killed myself. I took the vehicle to the dealer two days later, who said that the issue was a "steering stabilizer", which appears to be the default response from stellantis as all steering stabilizers are on back-order. There were no warning lights, no indicators that this event was imminent and the dealership indicated that all other parts were in normal working order.
“violent steering oscillation / loss of steering control at highway speeds” speed when it occurs (usually 45–70 mph) trigger (bumps, bridge joints, potholes) it requires slowing significantly to regain control. “this is consistent with Jeep’s known steering damper failure causing death wobble. I requested evaluation under Jeep’s known corrective actions. ”.
