1 Steering Column problem of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/27/2020

While driving on the highway at approximately 70 mph, the Jeep began to shake (wabble) violently. The steering column became hard to control due to the shaking of the Jeep. Slowing down did not seem to help so I pulled off the freeway and came to a complete stop. This alleviated the issue temporarily. However, the shaking/wabble occurred 6 more times during my 200-mile trip. I took my Jeep into the dealer to get fixed and waited 3 weeks for the part to come in. During this time, the wabble happened twice at freeway speeds (65 mph+). Both times, I had to pull off the freeway and come to a complete stop to remedy the issue. My servicing dealer replaced the steering dampener as they said that was the issue. Unfortunately, at freeway speed, I encountered the shaking/wabble again. Speeds of 50 mph or less do not seem to trigger the shaking, but it occurs intermittently at speeds over 50 mph. As long as I am in the slow lane with room to exit the road, it is safe to drive. However, it is a huge safety issue if there is no way to exit the roadway when it occurs as the only way to stop the shaking is to come to a complete stop.

5 Steering Column problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 02/13/2020

We bought this vehicle from hoffer Jeep in topeka, KS. The vehicle was won buy a person at a casino event so we are the 2nd owner. The vehicle had, I believe under 2k miles, upon our purchase. Since, we have owned the vehicle it has consistently had a "death wobble". I simply cannot count how many times at or under mandated highway speeds this vehicle has entered a 'death wobble". The most recent was from returning from manhattan KS to kansas city the vehicle entered a "death wobble" no less than 4 times. The last time I was driving 5 miles under the 75mph speed limit when hitting some road chatter, nothing significant, caused uncontrollable chatter in front wheels, axle, generating strong vibration through the steering column and wheel. I released the accelerator and the vehicle came out of the "death wobble" at 27mph, on an incredibly busy highway. This was/is unsafe at highway speeds. The dangers it caused could have been catastrophic in nature and need to be addressed before someone is killed. This vehicle is stock and has not had its suspension, tires, etc. , adjusted or manipulated in any shape, fashion, or form. Please advise on how this matter should be dealt with going forward? thanks.

8 Steering Column problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/07/2019

I was driving down the highway when my Jeep Wrangler jl hit a bump and the car started shaking uncontrollably and it was very difficult to drive. I wasn't sure what was happening so I slowed down significantly in case I needed to pull over. The shaking then stopped but after about 15-20 seconds. Not less that a mile down the road did this exact same thing happen again after I hit a bump. It lasted just as long and didn't stop until I slowed down significantly. I believe this is related to an issue with the front suspension and steering column.

This car is a lemon.

11 Steering Column problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/31/2019

2018 Jeep Wrangler has terrifying steering issues. Consistently while steering a highway curve at 40-55 mph my Jeep steering disengages and results in an unsafe inability to maintain the steering column. The steering can be described as loose and commonly described by passengers as the unsettling feeling that the frame of the vehicle is coming off the wheels. Please look into this safety issue. I have not been injured yet but if this continues I don't think it will remain that way.

12 Steering Column problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 06/23/2019

While stepping on the brakes, the service shifter light comes on, power steering goes out, then the dashboard goes crazy with all sorts of warnings blinking and dinging: sway bar, stability control, blind spot alert, auto park, etc. Temp goes up and down, speedometer goes crazy. When the vehicle is shut off and re-started, it usually starts as normal. Most occurrences have been when slowing down (in line at a drive thru, approaching a stoplight). The Jeep has been in the shop 4 times. This service shifter late first came on June 23 and it occurred four times that day. First they repaired the power steering. The problem happened again and they replaced the module in the steering column. The problem happened again and the dealership could not duplicate the problem. It happened again and the vehicle had to be towed to the dealership where it is still sitting.

13 Steering Column problem of the 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 05/01/2019

There have been 1000s of people who drive Wranglers complain of the steering clunk when driving. When the Jeep warms up and the suspension cycles you can feel a thud iin the steering column somewhere. It makes you feel very uneasy and scared not knowing when the steerint shaft will finally go. Most problems result from the lower and upper intermediate shaft being made from 2 separate metals and expanding. Jeep located these near the manifold. The replacement part is always on backorder so Jeep must know there's anproblem somewhere.

14 Steering Column problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

15 Steering Column problem of the 2019 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/06/2019

Play in steering wheel of 0. 75 inch to each side. Jeep tried to fix issue by installing an upgraded track bar, steering damper and intermediate steering column shaft. Issue improved to 0. 75 inches of play to each side from about 1 inch to each side. Steering play mainly noticable at highway speeds over 60 mph. Constant correction is required to stay in lane. Issue is really significant on windy days since over correction is likely. I had a situation passing two trucks in the middle lane and I could hardly manage the turbulence and not hitting one of the trucks. My daughter is not driving the the Wrangler since she feels not save. My wife and I getting tired driving really quickly. Jeep has no solution and the dealer says that there is no fix. If I move the steering wheel by . 75 inches the steering column turns , the link to the steering gearbox turns but the output arm of the steering gearbox is not moving.

17 Steering Column problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

When driving at highway speed, approx 70 mph, and hitting a small bump in the road the steering column and interior of the car shook violently. (death wobble). I had to slow down rather quickly and was almost rear ended by the car behind me,. This happened prior and we brought it back to the dealer and they the replaced a part, but that obviously that did not fix the problem. The first time it happened my wife was driving and I told her it's just a Jeep and that is how they ride over bumps, but after it happened to me, I knew right away that was what she felt the first time! we brought the car to the dealership and they said it this is not the first time someone has complained about this. The car is at the dealership and we are not sure it will ever be fixed properly. She does not want to drive the car again.

18 Steering Column problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/18/2019

Death wobble, has been at the dealership 4 times and was just picked up for the 5th time. Today they are replacing recalled parts this happens at ant speed at this point in time. And began in January 2019. I have only had the vehicle since July 2018. In February the steering damper was replace, at this time we also had an issue with the steering column locking up while driving nothing was fixed on that issue only the steering damper, about 3000 miles later, the wobble began again, in July 2019 the vehicle went back in for the replacement of the steering damper, in August it went back in for what they stated was the recalled part a new steering damper was replaced, that night I drove the Jeep home and still had the wobble, they picked it up last week to replace the steering damper and nothing was done, the picked it up today to do a new task bar and an alignment. This vehicle is unsafe. I have already lost one child due to an automobile accident. This does not make me feel safe driving this vehicle.

19 Steering Column problem of the 2018 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/29/2018

At highway speeds (60+ mph), the entire steering column and Jeep shakes after I pass over a bridge. The only way to come out of the shake is to lower my speed down to about 40 mph which is unsafe when in heavy traffic. The first time it happened (~10,000 miles on my new Jeep) with intensity, I would have lost control of my vehicle if I did not have both hands on the wheel. I was truly scared. The dealership replaced my steering wheel damper which helped for a little while. About 2 months later (~13,000 miles on my Jeep), it happened again. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and they are looking it over again.

Too much play in the steering wheel, dead zone between 11:00 and 1:00. Have to drive with two hands on the wheel at all times to keep it in a straight line and feels dangerous at highway speeds. 29 Steering Column problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/14/2015

"takata recall" as of yesterday, December 14, 2015, a white tape started coming out of the steering column. A few weeks ago, the air bag light would come on and go back off which I thought was odd but, it went back out so I wasn't concerned and it never stayed on for any length of time. Then yesterday I get in my Jeep to go to work and as I turn the wheel out of my driveway, I could hear this noise like someone was wrinkling up paper. It is only eight miles from my home to work so, I kept listening to figure out what it was. By the time I got to work, there was a white tape coming out of the steering column. After work, I took it and had it looked at and was told that the "clock spring" is unraveling in the steering column. Usually this is only seen when you have been in an accident and the air bag has been deployed. I have never been in an accident so, it should not be unraveling inside the steering column. I was also told, I shouldn't drive my vehicle because there is a chance the air bag will deploy. I got it home and now it is sitting in my driveway.

32 Steering Column problem of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 11/25/2014

I purchased this 2012 Wrangler in 2014 the next day I noticed the steering had play so I took it to the Jeep dealer they test drove it and said there was nothing wrong. I then replaced the steering gear and all the end links. It still follows the road instead of going straight. Driving this Jeep over 35 mph is scary there is something wrong with the steering column and every time I told the Jeep deal they told me I am wrong. I have wasted so much money trying to fix this dangerous steering problem. There needs to be a recall for this issue. I have gone to other mechanics to no avail because there are no Jeep specialists in northern California all parts changers. I have had the alignment done at two different shops everything is straight. There is something seriously wrong please don't blow this off, this is a danger to my family and others driving around the Jeep.
