37 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 06/16/2019

This happened back in June of 2019. I left work normally and not even 2 minutes down the road, my car started struggling to move forward. It was bucking and could not accelerate, but still trying to go forward. Then suddenly it started making a very loud tapping noise, still bucking and then a large pop and the car stopped moving since it died in the middle of the road. This all happened within a matter of seconds. Smoke started seeping out of the hood of my car. I had no lights on in my car on my dashboard. I always had free regular maintenance(oil etc. ) done at my kia dealership. I obviously had to have it towed and got it to the dealership so they could look at it in the morning. They said they didn't know why, but my entire engine had just blown out for no reason. My car was only at 87,000 miles and it was just totalled. I wasn't worried initially because I paid extra for the warranty to fix any major problems like this, however I came to find out the warranty refused to cover the entire cost to replace the price of a new engine in my vehicle and on top of that, when the engine blew it killed the computer in my car, and the dealership also strongly advised I replaced several other things on the vehicle. I'd have to pull out my receipts to give you all an exact amount but we paid at least $5,000 - $10,000 out of pocket for the engine and computer alone. Today is may 8th, 2021, almost 2 years later and I just happened to be on kelley blue book trying to see what I can sell my garbage kia for. I happened to enter my VIN into the recall checker and I could not believe my eyes, engine recall issued late 2020. I have not been notified by anybody about this and probably would have never been told seeming as they already basically stole my money from me 2 years ago. I am really hoping you can help me resolve this and more than happy to provide anything you need.

40 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 02/14/2019

It started with a ticking noise coming from my engine like it needed an oil change but it had just had one. I took it to a kia dealership to have it looked at and was told it was the engine. They said that the rod bearings were wearing down and resulting in metal contamination in the engine. They said I needed my engine replaced immediately or risk it locking up while driving. After research I found other models from the same year and the same type of engine have been recalled do to the same issue. I have attached the invoice for the replacement engine.

41 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 02/08/2019

At around 125,000 miles - I noticed a ticking sound and tapping coming from the engine on my 2. 0l mpi "theta ii" 2012 kia Forte. At first it went away quickly after startup but then when it got colder that winter it got noticeably louder and is now constantly present at 157,930 miles, speeding up as I accelerate the vehicle. I brought the car to my mechanic at around 128,800 miles and he said that I would need to have the engine taken apart to do more diagnosis and that it might be better to just drive it to see if it gets worse. I've gotten documented regular oil changes since I was the owner in 2017, switching to the kia dealership at my mechanic's suggestion after having them check out the tapping/ticking issue. These oil changes have not resolved the problem, instead it's continuing throughout the year with each winter making it slowly get worse. In doing some searches, I'm not alone in my experience and I'm apparently lucky that I've made it this long with my theta ii engine. When the recall campaign began for the gdi engines I was hopeful that kia would do the right thing and include the mpi engines. However, while they have expanded the recall to include mpi engines, they have not expanded it to include 2. 0l mpi engines with the same components that can wear excessively including connecting rods/connecting rod bearings. Many 2. 0l mpi owners have experienced failures, including fellow enthusiasts that love and take care of our vehicles, and I worry about the danger that can occur with a suddenly failing engine, let alone the potential fire risks. I believe that the 2. 0l mpi engine kia Forte models should also be included in the recall. I have attached documentation from parts diagrams that show the parts commonality between the 2. 4 mpi and 2. 0l mpi engines. I.

42 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 02/01/2019

Vehicle makes a loud ticking noise which seems to be the exact complaint of recall sc147. However, sc147 does not include the Forte. Vehicle has 104,000 miles and has had frequent oil changes conducted by a kia dealer. All descriptions and videos online point to the rod bearing causing the ticking noise.

43 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 12/17/2018

While driving at 70mph on the highway heard a tapping sound from the engine. Towed to the kia dealership. Mechanic found that the connecting rod bearing failed, ruining the engine (2. 4l). Quoted $6,000 for repair. 82,000 miles. All maintenance done on time. Dealer and kia corporate denied any help or that the 2. 4l was defective at manufacture.

44 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 10/02/2018

While driving, engine made a sound like a ticking noise then just blew. Oil all over the engine bay and ground. A lot of smoke coming from under the hood. Would not start or do anything. Glad it didn't catch fire with all the oil everywhere. Had to have it towed. Took it to mechanic, come to find out the engine had seized up. This happen while driving on highway. Speed limit 70. It was like the engine went boom. Glad I was in the right lane to be able to get the car over to the side. Lost all power and unable to control car. Mechanic had to order and waiting on used engine coming from California to put into car. Will cost 4000. 00 for this repair. Still owe on this car too.

45 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2010 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 09/26/2018

My engine started making a loud clicking sound when I started the car and continued as I drove, then the check engine light came on. We took it to a mechanic that same day. I spoke with 3 mechanics, all said it's a common engine problem with kia's and they said it was spun crank on the rod bearings and it's a common issue with kia's. I have had the car since 2010 and only have 50k miles on it. They refuse to honor their 100,000 miles 10 year warranty.

46 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

My son was driving our 2012 kia Forte down the highway. We bought this car from kia dealer about 11 months ago with ~115,500 and it now only has ~118,100 miles on it. So we only drove it less than 3000 miles over the last one year. While he was traveling down the highway, he started hearing a clanking noise and then the car stopped and would not drive any longer. He said no engine warning light ever came on. Only his oil maintenance light had come on right before it occurred. He checked the oil on the side of the road and the oil was fine and still had approximately 2000 life miles remaining on it. We had it towed to a mechanic that inspected the car and he said the engine is seized up. But, he says sees no maintenance related reason for why this engine has seized up like it has. I did some checking online to see if there were any issues reported for this. We found there was a recall by Hyundai and kia for an issue that sounds exactly the same as what occurred to our engine. I believe this car has the same engine or at least has the same issue as the other engines, which are same year models, but different make. I believe the 2012 kia Forte has the exact issue as the other multiple recalled models I would like to have the same diligence done for this model to see if the same issue has occurred with our engine. There are multiple Forte owners that have also had this complaint.

48 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 01/25/2018

The engine is making a loud ticking sound so I brought it to the dealer that I purchased it from 11 months earlier. They told me the engine needs to be replaced and it will cost about $7,000. I paid $9,000 for the car 11 months ago and it only has 77,000 miles on it. I've learned through some extensive research that kia has recalled the engines in several of their other models. This recall was put into place because the engines are "stalling" and posing a safety hazzard. This car can not be driven until the engine is replace. All scheduled maintenance has been performed and the engine still gave out at only 77,000 miles. The dealer is berlin city in gorham, nh. The r. O. Print out of codes and issues with the engine is half a page long and includes blue smoke from exhaust, missfiring on two cylinders, knocking, flashing "check engine light", leaking head gasket, etc. My research seems to tell me that this model line should be added to the recall list. Seems like the same issues as the engines with the recall are having.

49 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 11/22/2017

The vehicle makes a really loud ticking or tapping noise while parked on idle that gets significantly louder when accelerating. There are many videos on youtube that document this noise. The noise is so loud sometimes it sounds like something in the motor will come thru the motor.

50 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 11/16/2017

The engine has been making a ticking clicking sound when at idle and while driving slowly for a couple of months now. Not sure if it goes away at high speeds or becuase of the poor noise proofing of the car that drowns out the sound. Anyway I started looking online to see if people had the same issue. They did and costing anywhere from 5000 to 7000 for the engine to be replaced because of "piston, rod knocking issues". Furthermore, I've learned that kia has recalled the engines in several of their other models. This recall was put into place because the engines are "stalling" and posing a safety hazard. This car can not be driven until the engine is replace. My research seems to tell me that this model line should be added to the recall list before people get injured. Seems like the same issues as the engines with the recall are having.

51 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 07/17/2017

This car has been well maintained by dealership. Engine began making a tapping noise inside, and dealership told wife it was normal. This last time I took car in , and find out that engine needs to be replaced. Same engine being recalled on other vehicles, but not on my year of car. Not the first person to report this issue.

52 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 05/16/2017

Vehicle purchased used from kia dealership claiming it was well maintained, one owner, with 60,000 miles. At 65,000 miles, engine started making ticking noise in sync with engine speed. Oil change did not quiet the noise. Dealership diagnosed as "internal" problem, requiring engine replacement.

53 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 02/23/2017

My 2012 kia Forte started producing a tapping noise when idling which became more rapid and a bit louder when accelerating. Resembling a "sticky lifters" sound, I decided to wait 2-3 weeks for my next oil change to have it looked at. My mechanics had no idea what was causing the noise, which was much louder after 2-3 weeks, and advised I take my car to the dealership. I immediately scheduled an appointment and got the car to the dealer the following week. The dealership rep first tried to insist, without having looked at the car, that it was my mechanic's fault in my routine oil changes. I called my mechanic, discussed their filters oil etc (they are a reputable company), and concluded that the dealership's response would not do. The dealership finally listened to the sound and immediately admitted it was not the oil/filter. They told me they needed to keep the car for 2+ weeks to investigate. I asked if I could bring it back Saturday to make arrangements for work. The rep said yes and then the mechanic came out and said it would be absolutely dangerous to take the car and then was the first to tell me that the whole engine needed to be replaced. Regardless, they eventually discovered metal shavings in the oil throughout the engine from manufacturing debris. Today (4/8/17), an official Hyundai and kia recall was announced on various model engines - the Forte was not on the list. I immediately felt this report needed to be filed to let other Forte owners know that 1) some dealerships are not taking responsibility and 2) the Forte is not immune to this problem. It is ridiculous that kia would not acknowledge the full extent of the issue even if Fortes are not as commonly affected. This is clearly a dangerous issue and lack of full responsibility taken by kia could have major repercussions.

54 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2010 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

Tl the contact owns a 2010 kia Forte. While the vehicle was being driven, the contact heard an abnormal ticking sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to evergreen kia (located at 9205 s western Ave, chicago, IL 60643, (800) 671-8069) where it was diagnosed that there were signs of piston slap and cylinder wall damage. There were also metal shavings in the engine oil. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 51,173.

55 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 10/28/2015

Took my 2011 kia Forte into the kia dealership today because the engine is making a ticking sound. I have had two other mechanics in recent weeks tell me it is a serious problem with the lifters and/or the pistons inside the engine. The kia mechanic refuses to acknowledge there is a ticking sound, but in formed me the air bag sensor is malfunctioning and I will have to pay $1100 to have the air bag sensor repaired before I can sell the car. Also, my brakes will occasionally make a very loud 'thump' when I apply them, but the kia dealer can find nothing wrong with them.

56 Engine Clicking And Tapping Noises problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Forte

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

My engine started making ticking noises around 60,000 miles. I was told by more than one person that it was just noisy lifters, so I ignored it. Now, at just over 100,000 miles my new mechanic recommended I get it looked at. Kia told me my engine needs replaced and it will cost $6000. The car isn't even worth that much. I always kept up on my maintenance because the salesman when I bought the care told me that if I took care of it, I could expect 300,000+ miles out of it. What a lie. I'm going to continue driving the car in hopes that they do the right thing and expand their recall. Hopefully before I go up in flames.
