At about 80000 miles I noticed a rattling sound from the engine of the car, a similar issue others are mentioning here. I think we need a recall on the engine or at least whatever part is causing this problem.
I had bought the car used 5 years ago with 36,000 miles on it. I have had no problems with the car for the at time span. I had changed to oil at the recommended intervals using oem oil filters and full synthetic oil. I was driving home from work when the engine started to develop a rattling noise. As I made a left turn onto a country road traveling at a speed of 45mph the rattling had got more noticeable and the engine had a lost of power. Eventually the rattling turn into a metallic crunching noise before the engine completely shut off on its own. I had pulled to the side of the road to further inspect the problem and that is when I had discovered engine oil coating the engine compartment and leaking onto the ground. The engine would not restarted leaving me stranded on the side of the road until a tow vehicle had arrived.

The engine makes a loud rattling sound and vibration during initial start and initial acceleration, the said noise is much louder during cold engine start ups. The problem only started when the mileage reached around 70,000 miles. Maintenance has been religiously followed especially oil change. I even use factory engine oil filter.
At 94,000 miles, I was told I needed to have my total engine replaced. It was sluggish to accelerate, then started a rattling sound, and I barely got it to the auto repair shop.

I was driving on highway 8 in san diego,CA and I heard a loud rattling noise, the check engine light lit up and the engine died and I was lucky to be able to coast the car to the shoulder of the freeway. I had it towed to my kia dealership in el cajon, CA. They looked at it and told me my engine seized and the engine was blown. I bought this car 11 months ago as a cpo and it is within the warranty of 10 yrs/100,000 miles. I've only put 21,000 miles on it. They are asking for my maintenance records and are having a special investigator to come out on 7/31/2018 to determine the cause. I have had one oil change done at the dealer in January of 2018, the rest of the oil changes I did on my own. The last oil change was just 2 weeks ago. The dealership is now telling me that it's up to the investigator to decide if the engine was defective and if they'll cover my engine under the powertrain warranty. When I took my vehicle in to the dealer in January 2018, I informed the mechanic that there was a knocking/pinging noise in the engine, he told me that this was normal. They never documented my complaint. After reading about all the problems with these engines and how kia is handling these problems, I am very concerned that they'll honor the warranty. I am making car loan payments on this car and cannot afford to pay for a new engine while the battle over these engines play out in the courts, your investigations and the recent fbi involvement. The dealer never informed me of possible problems with these engines. I never would've purchased this car. Please help, I am concerned that the investigator will falsify what is found in the engine upon investigation.
I was driving the car and it started making a rattling noise that was coming from under the hood. Then it turned off on its own in the middle of the street and it never turned on again. I had to tow it.

As I was exiting the highway I heard a rattling noise coming from under my hood. Then all of a sudden smoke start to come fro m under hood and out the back of the car. As that was happening I heard a loud bang then my engine shut off before I could pull over. After I was towed to a local dealership and after my car went through a diagnostic check I was told by the mechanic that my engine failed even though it was in great condition and we'll maintained.
