A clicking noise in the front end started when the wheel was turned to the right. This was about 2 years ago. The dealership replaced a joint and said it was fixed. A couple of weeks later the noise started again, became worse and the steering felt looser. The front left wheel also felt loose when going over bumps. They replaced the steering column and some other related parts. This time the steering was looser, they had to replace a bolt and said it was fixed. As soon as I left the lot I heard the same noise but very faint. The dealership said it wasn't an issue but it got worse over the next few weeks. The right wheel had the loose feeling when going over bumps again. By this time the noise happened when turning left or right. The dealership replaced the steering column and the same parts as before again. That same day I could hear the faint noise again, dealership said it was fine again. The clicking noise became worse just as before and nothing is being done. The service department said they didn't think it was a safety issue but they obviously don't really know what the problem is or they would have been able to repair it. It has been several months since their last attempt and it keeps getting worse. When going over the slightest bump the front wheels have a loose feeling which is also getting worse. This loose feeling in the front wheels happens when turning and going straight. Speed doesn't seem to be a factor in any of the problems.

The vehicle was purchased new in 2015, the steering box on this vehicle was replaced in November 2016 under warranty as the steering wheel would have a hesitation (felt like a brief sticking) regardless of driving conditions but more dangerous at highway speeds. Now may 2018 I am having to have it replaced again as the steering is very loose and wanders for no reason, again, regardless of driving conditions but more unpredictable at highway speeds and requires a great deal of concentration to keep the vehicle in the lane. The vehicle is 36 months old with 78000 miles and is having the 3rd steering box installed. The technician has deemed my vehicle unsafe to drive and stated that the tech support from kia acted as though they weren't surprised. I do not feel comfortable driving this car knowing that this mechanism is failing at an unsafe rate. Kia knows of this problem and apparently feels fine with it though they deem the car unsafe to drive due to a part that they knowingly are installing in these vehicles. A brief search on the internet (god love the internet) will reveal that this is a problem that many people are having. Please look into this, these vehicles are unpredictable on the road and by their own admission unsafe. My case number with kia for this problem is 12711641.

My steering has been loose since 65k miles and continued to drift. However this bieng my 4th car I let it slide and was waiting for time to do a wheel alignment. However at 73k miles the eps sensor went off and now is hard to drive. The eps on all my vehicles never had issues up till its death way over 250k miles. The eps sensor came on after a stop sign. Then I heard a snap then the car went into manual steering mode. Now the eps sensor is off and the car is working fine.
I have a 2012 kia Optima and my steering wheel is making a loud clanking noise when I hit a bump in the road or slightly turn the wheel . I have searched on line and it's saying it is a cluster not sure wat that is I have been told it should be under recall because that can cause the steering wheel to loose it's directions and I could either cause and accident or be part of one.
A flexible coupling had to be replaced in the steering wheel. The cost of the part was $1. 35. The labor to replace the coupling was $250. 00. I paid a total of $287. 17 to replace a part that cost $1. 35. The steering was loose causing the issue to be imperative to replace.

The steering wheel is loose when I hit a bump feels like the car just wants to turn. Seems like if the wheel could just lock up or will just completely not turn at some point.
When turning the steering wheel there is a knocking noise in the steering column and appears very loose where I have to turn the wheel almost an extra 1/8-1/4 turn. The steering wheel is loose and then seems to lock up at speeds of 55-60. I first noticed this about a year ago but after today the knocking noise became worse.
