Failure Date: 06/01/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 kia Optima. The contact stated that when he turns the steering wheel theres a crimp that does not allow the wheel to turn smoothly. When the contact attempts to make a turn there's a delay in the vehicle responding to the turn. The dealer and manufacturer had not been contgacted yet. The contact paid to have the front end replaced thinking the rack and pinion system, tierodes and struts were the issue. When the contact got the vehicle back issue still came back. The contact went online and found out the problem was with a $2. 00 part for the steering plastic coupler and the cost to repair the issue was over $1000. The failure mileage was 85,000. Tf.

3 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

As I drive the car, she has a tendency of going either to the left or the right. I have to forcefully rectify my steering wheel and someone behind me would see that I'm drivimg erratically. It is annoying while driving to have to give to the steering wheel a notch to the left or to the right when actually you want to go straight. Is there a recall on the problem. I bought the car 2 years ago and they told me that was the only problem they had with it. They had to change the rack and pinion. And now she's doing it again. It does that on any street or highway.

The contact owns a 2012 kia Optima. While driving 35 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The contact safely pulled over as the body of the vehicle veered from left to right due to the loss of power steering ability. In addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to selma kia (2775 auto mall dr. , selma, CA 93662, (559) 891-2300) where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The failure mileage was 155,000.

5 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 09/12/2012

I agree with the may 24, 2013 - scottsdale, az overview regarding wind. The car is easily affected and moves in the wind and is a challange to stay straight in the lane. I feel like other drivers must think I am a drunk driver. The car does not really drift but the steering is sluggish with play and dead spots/harder to make first part of a turn, (almost like steering sticks). Also as someone else said, the steering is a challenge on the highway at higher speeds and is hard to maintain in the lane. . . . May also be a suspension problem. It is easy to lose control at high speeds if the roadway is not perfect. Constantly fighting the loose steering to the point where again, it looks like I am a drunk driver. Increasing the air in the tires was of no help toward the steering stability. I spoke to the local kia dealer service manager (February 2012), and he noted that the conditons sounded typical of what he has heard with the newer model Optimas which have the electronic steering. He was going to check with kia for their thoughts. No response yet. What ever happened to the good old tight, rack and pinion steering? enough of this mushy steering, this is suposed to be a sporty car. . . Am I finding out that it is just good looks? I have owned and driven similar priced Chrysler and Ford products prior to this and never uncomfortable with the steering.

7 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 06/07/2012

"takata recall"while driving this car on the highway I notice noise coming from the front. I've had problem with this same thing since 2012, first the string it would pull left and right on its own while drive straight. Kia said they would fix it. There was a recall on this problem, now my rack and pinion is broken, and that's because kia refuse to fix that problem back in 2012 with the string. Kia sent us a settlement letter , which states they will paid us $531. 95 by means of a check, it states it is understood and agreed that this settlement is a compromise of disputed claims and does not constitute, an admission of liability on the part of kia. We did not sing that letter because kia cars are no good! and there has been recalls since that letter was sent. They tried to black mail us we didn't fall for the scam. The company know this car is no good. If you need that letter sent to you I can do that to. Someone could die because of this problem its dangerous,I work in the mountains this problem needs fixing now not later now!!!. Sincerely, need this problem fix.

8 Steering Rack And Pinion problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Optima

Failure Date: 02/25/2008

I bought a new 2006 kia Optima ex in Apr 2006. Sept 2006 the key fobs quit working and the pass side back seat does not secure itself in place at the bottom of the seat and stay/taken to a dealership and fixed. July 2007, the key fob again quit working/taken to the dealership and I was told a TSB was out on this problem and they would replace the receiver which was done. Nov 2007 after the TSB supposedly was taken care of, again the key fob quits working/dealership has again reprogrammed to work again and currently they continue to work. This car handles extremely poorly and in my opinion is a safety risk. It seems to have a pretty loose suspension and a lot of swaying when driving. The car pulls hard to the left causing one to have to hold the steering wheel tight to keep it from taking nearly a 45 degree left turn while driving. When applying the brakes, the car pulls both left and right/usually left. When driving over a smooth dip in the road, it feels the front tires actually leave the ground slightly causing the steering wheel to vibrate right/left quickly. This vehicle also handles extremely poorly on icy roads. This is without any question the worst handling vehicle I have ever driven. . . Concerns me as I drive on the highway about 35 miles to work one way daily, and drive in windy as well as snow and icy conditions fairly frequently. At about 15,000 miles, the latch on the gas door doesn't want to stay closed after you fuel up and the electronics that operate the side view mirrors intermittently do not work. Feb 2008, my car reached 30,000 miles and when washing it last week, I noted an area of paint peeling off on the driver's side door trim (black), as well as the chrome paint starting to bubble. I took pictures of both of these areas. Since driving this car off the showroom floor, it has been garaged at both work and home. Last week (Feb 2008), driver's side seatbelt quit retracting.

Bought kia Optima on June 22, 2004 VIN# [xxx] and have since had seven service appointments, replaced two sets of drive belts, replaced a leaking power steering rack, replaced a leaking fuel regulator, machined the front rotors, lost time from work, lost productivity from work as well as jeopardized my wife's work from car pooling for five months, completed scheduled arbitration with the bbb without success for four problems: acceleration delay, low grinding brake noise, low vibration steering noise, and loud squealing noise from the drive belts.
