Tl the contact's nephew owns a 2015 kia Rio. While the contact's nephew was driving 30 mph, the front driver and passenger side air bags independently deployed without warning or impact. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed and the driver and passenger side seat belts locked, but failed to unlock. The contact's nephew and the passenger sustained bruising that did not require medical attention. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was taken to demontrond kia (14101 north fwy, houston, TX 77090), but no diagnostic failure codes were found and the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and an engineer was sent out to inspect the vehicle. An engineer stated that there was significant damage to the transmission area and the subframe was visible. The approximate failure mileage was 21,000.

On August 22 2017 8:45 pm while I was driving down a city street my driver side air bag deployed, for no reason causing me to lose control of the vehicle and run over a median in the road. I proceeded to pull into a parking lot to avoid any further incident and inspect any damage to my car. With the car still running, I walked the perimeter of the vehicle to see if there was any damage to the vehicle, with no bodily damage visible I decided to drive it home. The next morning, I went to check on my kia Rio and found transmission fluid all over the ground. I called my insurance and reported what had happened. They said I should contact kia corporation and report the air bag failure I did as requested. Then hurricane harvey hit the area and delayed any actions taken. After about a week kia towed the car to their lot for inspection. Kia asked what I wanted, I replied repair or replace my defective vehicle. They wrote a repair cost estimated at $9200. 00 and said that the air bag was not a recall item and denied my claim after another week passed. I had to file the claim on my insurance at that time and send it to another shop for inspection. Another week passed before my insurance filed it a total loss. After all this lost time from work and rental cost expenses that have yet to be reimbursed. Then having to go find a car that I feel would be trustworthy and dependable after these set of circumstances has proved to be difficult. Refinancing another car insuring it. I don't feel kia corporation held up their responsibility or liability in this situation. After further research on the internet I discovered that kia had many airbag recalls in previous years, and airbag failures in other kia automobiles across multi-year models.

The contact owned a 2015 kia Rio. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 30 mph, he was involved in a head on collision and his vehicle ultimately hit a tree. The driver side air bag deployed, the other air bags did not. There was a police report filed and the contact sustained severe injuries where medical attention was required. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was deemed destroyed. The approximate failure mileage was 8,000. The VIN was not available.

The front passenger side air bag turns off intermittently while a passenger is in the front seat and the car is travelling. I believe the front passenger seat sensor for the air bag is defective. I notified Kia Motors on 6 oct 2014 at their customer service number and they refuse to take any action. The customer service representative stated that it was my responsibility.

(2008 kia Rio) - passenger side air bag fails to stay on. . . . It comes on maybe every 1 of 5 times. . . . I have tried every thing to get it to work. . . . When stopped a stop sign I turn the car of and back on (nothing). . . It needs a key to turn it on and off . I have even put weights on the seat but nothing . . . . . Will not turn on . . . . . . Then some days it turns on just fine . . . . . But!!!!!. . . . It also turns off while driving ( after a lot of research I found multi able complaints on the passenger side air bag this needs a recall (a on of key) and to be looked at on all cars like this . . . . . . The kia lot will look at it soon hope its not on one of its I want to work days so I can show them what I mean. . . . . . Also . . . The sensor part cost around $400 and several people said they had to replace them 2 or more times . . . .

The contact owns a 2009 kia Rio. While driving approximately 50 mph on a wet road, the contact attempted to make a turn, lost control of the vehicle, and the left side collided into a wall. None of the air bags deployed. The contact suffered bruises on her leg, arms and the passenger suffered back pain. Before the failure occurred, the contact previously rear ended another vehicle and the air bags did not deploy. The dealer stated that the air bags would not deploy if the collision was not frontal. The contact planned to call the manufacturer when the complaint was filed. The current and failure mileages were approximately 12,000.

The passenger side air bag does not come on with my wife setting in the front seat. She weights 110# and the dealership stated that she was to light to turn the airbag on. It seems to me that a person 110# should turn the airbag system on. We feel that there is a problem with the design of the system. There was no accident yet but if it did occur there would be no airbag protection for the passenger. Please take action as this is a real safety issue.

Vehicle was in an accident with a rollover. The vehicle was in an accident where the front right corner hit a piece of farm equipment. The drivers side airbag deployed and pushed the drivers left arm through the drivers side window. The vehicle then hit a ditch and rolled. The drivers arm was crushed by the car. The drivers side curtain airbag did not deploy. Had the drivers side curtain airbag deployed there would have been no injury. Recommend that front and curtain airbags work in conjunction with each other instead of individually. The deployment of both airbags would have prevented all injury. The accident itself was not the fault of the manufacturer.

Consume r was traveling at a normal speed and vehicle was hit from the side. Upon impact,driver's side airbag didn't deploy.

Vehicle was in a head on collision at 46 mph. Upon impact, passenger side air bag deployed, but driver side air bag didn't deploy. Steering wheel came completely off, and the driver died as a result. Consumer's wife was hit head on while driving at 50 mph by a toota tacoma. The drivier of the tacoma was on drugs when crossed over into path of the Rio. The driver of the Rio experienced a severed brain stem, punctured lung from the steering column and a severed arm. The driver of the Rio was wearing the seat belt. During the crash the Rio's driver's seat broke from the mountings and the steering wheel broke off. After the crash the Rio's driver was found under the instrument panel. The tacoma was bent in half and the trucks bed broke off from the frame. Rio has been notifed of the crash. It was assumed the driver of the tacoma was travaling atleast 45-50 mph at the time of the crash. Cw.

While driving at highway speeds, engine stalls out. Dealer said it was caused by corroded wiring under the hood. The consumer states that two weeks after purchasing the vehicle, the vehicle died and would not start when traveling on the highway. A week later the vehicle wouldn't go in reverse, consumer was told that vehicle needed a new transmission. The vehicles airbag and engine light would stay on. Replaced/repaired the following; replaced input speed sensor, repaired the open circuit/driverside airbag, replaced left front hub bearings,inner/outer seals, front brakes replaced, and the rotors machined.
