The contact owns a 2003 kia Sedona. The contact noticed that the vehicle was abnormally loosing coolant fluid. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the failure was diagnosed as a corroded heater cooling pipe. The dealer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and the current mileage was 57,500.

Problems: air bag light on again. Has been repaired by dealer several times. Ac does not blow cold continually and has been repaired several times. New compressor, additional freon, etc. Horn malfunctioning again. Transmission problem - the vehicle "bangs or slams" when you come down a hill to a stop. When slowing down to a stop light it actually has a surge or acceleration. This vehicle only has 64000 on it and the brakes have been serviced several times (front and rear). Now when I am driving I get a terrible grinding feeling - and at a higher speed on the highway when you go to slow down faster it vibrates terribly. Also the braking is terrible at higher speeds. Also had problems with the actuator repair/replaced several times, horn not sounding properly, air bag light (repaired several times), cruise control issues (won't maintain speed - accelerates or decelerates), battery or electrical issues (told to replace battery which I did & paid for), headlight issues (have replaced lights several times), vibration on highway (new tires and tires have been rebalanced. Alignment done). After reviewing multiple websites on kia reviews, these above items are very common experiences for kia Sedona owners. I wanted to make you aware of these items since I feel that if consumers do not notify the authorities nothing will be corrected or known. I have really noticed in the last few months, almost immediately after passing the warranty mark, the vehicle has taken a turn for the worse and problems seem to be escalating.

On June 20th I received a call from my wife that our van had overheated and shut it self off in the intersection, (luckily there was not much traffic. ) when I arrived I found the van out of coolant. I refilled the coolant and checked for leaks, finding none I drove the van home. Upon arrival at home I found the van to be almost out of coolant again, but found no leaks. I refilled it again and the next day after a short trip I found a large puddle of coolant under the vehicle. I traced it back to two metal lines coming off the back of the motor. I called kia for service and when the I told them it was leaking coolant, their response to me was "off the back of the motor?". After talking with him for a few minutes I was told that the warranty for that item expired at 60000 miles and our van has 65000. I scheduled the service, then began thinking about how quickly he knew exactly where it was leaking from, and then I searched online finding a TSB for the repair. This prompted me to contact kia to see if they would still cover the repair and after speaking with an agent and a couple phone calls later I was told they would not. The leaking coolant comes from two metal coolant lines that run to the rear of the van for the rear heater. These lines rust and corrode over a couple year period allowing them to leak. I was told by the gentleman at the dealership that I am lucky as most people don't catch this in time and do lots of damage to the motor of the vehicle. I think this is a safety concern because if the vehicle just dies in a traffic it can cause an accident, and if the vehicle dies in inclement weather injury or death could occur. Kia is obviously aware of the situation due to the TSB and at the dealership I was told one manufacturer uses aluminum lines with a plastic coating to prevent this from occurring, so they are aware of a solution. Right now it is getting the lines replaced with the same type of lines that corroded, so I will be back in a couple of years.
I got my 2005 kia Sedona in 5/2006 used. Since that time, I have had to have the brakes replaced (pads and rotors) at least 6 times, have had to have 4 sets of tires and have had to have the air conditioning replaced. The compressor in the a/c went completely out in 2009. This is all in addition replacing spark plugs, fans, etc etc. I have spent a huge amount of money on this van and it still shakes, pulls etc and the brakes are about to have to be replaced again.
The contact owns a 2006 kia Sedona. While driving approximately 45 mph, the engine and esc warning lights illuminated on the instrument control panel. The vehicle lost power and would not accelerate. He took the vehicle to the dealer and a technician repaired the wiring in the electrical system. Immediately after the repair, the failure recurred. He took the vehicle back to the dealer for inspection, but they are currently unable to locate the cause of the failure. The manufacturer did not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was 30,000 and current mileage was 31,000. The consumer stated dealer replaced computer module which has corrected the problem. Updated 06/02/08.
2005 kia Sedona over heated on several occasions. Consumer stated that kia told her to put coolant and water in the radiator. When it over heated a second time someone informed her of a rear coolant line problem.
Car has been huge headache bought new in 2003 has been towed twice for leaking coolant lines that rusted out. Last time was on vacation kia has not returned on phone call or e-mail as it cost me 300 dollars and car is under bumper to bumper warranty has 34k miles . Drivers door handle broke and airbag light was on fixed by dealer. One brake pad lining fell off at 25k miles replaced myself. Most important we had a rear tire blow out at 60 mph in three lanes of traffic. Tire shredded apart with 28k miles and was new york inspected 2 months earlier. Other back tire bubbled out on one side and made the car shudder. Replaced tires myself but please investigate this car now I am really worried after reading about the airbags not deploying.
When driving the van any speed. Once it warms up with the ac on there is a loud groaning/growing sound coming from the rear cargo area of the vehicle. The sound starts out intermittently and then continues and increases in frequency.
While driving on highway with heat on, the air stopped blowing into the car from the vents even though we could hear the blower motor running. This started October 4, 2003 and still has not been fixed as of June 2004. Even though we have had the car in the repair shop 11 times. We have been placed in very dangerous situations because of this. During the winter, when the blower would quit, the windows would fog up or freeze up immediately. We couldn't even see to get the car off the road. There was no way to clear the windows, not to mention the discomfort of freezing to death when it was 30 degrees below zero. The entire heating system, actuators, blower motor were replaced and the blender doors were reprogrammed. We only have heat sporadically. Now that summer is here, the air conditioner doesn't work,. It is in the shop now having the compressor replaced. The transmission also was replaced in oct. 2003. We feel the company has had ample time to repair the car. They even admit they can't fix it. We are seeking a replacement (comparable) vehicle or a refund so that we can get a vehicle that works. I refuse to go through another winter like that.

Multiple electrical problems with 2002 kia Sedona minivan including front window not working; trunk/backlatch not opening (twice); checkengine light(twice); frontblower for heater/airconditoning not functioning (twice). Problems started Nov. 2002 and are ongoing.
Strong antifreeze smell when using the ac on hot days. Transmission shifts violently from 1-2 and occasionally into reverse. Dealer has attempted to correct several times. Sliding doors have had alignment problems and bearing failure several times also. (currently fixed).
We have a 2002 kia Sedona; we bought in Dec of 2001. Within the first 6 months, the alternator, battery, ignition switch, had to be replaced, along with sliding doors falling off the hinge. I complained of a wind noise for the first year no one knew what it was. It went unfixed. Within a year the shocks, the struts and sliding doors had to be replaced. My air-condition went out completely guess what no more wind noise. And no longer under warranty. My rear wiper control went out. Recently, while on thanksgiving vacation to ohio we had to have roadside pick up our van as the transmission totally went out without warning. While in the shop we were advised our brakes were not safe to drive. We had never had a problem with the brakes. And the motor mounts were also in need of replacement. Was in the shop 14 days, we had to drive back to ohio to when ready. The brakes went to the floor had never ever done that before. When we were on our way out of town, the transmission was acting up. We made it home on Dec 7th and no one at kia could take the vehicle in until the service manager returned my call he was off for doctor visit. On Dec 13, I took my van in to be repaired, they called me and told me it would need a new transmission, and guess what they are also repairing the sliding doors 5th time I think. They have to also fix the dent in the hood that was not there, before the ohio kia took it in to be fixed. Today it has been 15 days. I still do not have my van. I would not recommend kia to my worst enemy. Please allow others to know that kia is a lemon if ever there were one.
