1 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2009 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 11/04/2018

This is the second time the alternator is being replaced since 09/19/17. Engine oil leaks from the front cylinder bank's valve cover gasket. Oil drips onto the alternator, the alternator is then oil soaked & damaged resulting in the charging system becoming inoperative. The charging system warning lamp in the cluster will then illuminate. The vehicle will run on battery power until the battery voltage drops below the engine control module's minimum operational voltage. The engine shuts off and not restart, increasing the risk of a crash. This engine is manufactured by Hyundai & is the same engine design as the 2007-2012 Hyundai veracruz, which has a recall campaign #121 for this exact issue. Kia needs to implement a recall for this!.

3 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 08/18/2016

The contact owns a 2012 kia Sedona. While the vehicle was parked, engine oil leaked underneath the front end of the vehicle and the engine oil warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the oil pressure switch and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

4 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 03/26/2016

Oil leaks from valve cover gasket and timing cover gasket cause oil to drop on the alternator. This oil residue causes the alternator to stop working and in turn the battery dies. My vehicle has stopped abruptly on the freeway three times due to this issue, when all electrical power to the vehicle is abruptly disabled with very less warning and reaction time. This is a very dangerous situation and if not for my alertness and quick reaction, my family would have been a traffic hazard and accident prone. This a manufacturing or part related defect on kia Sedonas. My mechanics have confirmed seeing this on other kia Sedonas. My vehicle currently still has this problem and I am trying to get kia to address it.

5 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 08/05/2015

The oil light came on while I was idling. I had it looked at and was told that the oil sending unit/ oil sensor switch was leaking oil. The oil leaks out faster than you can put it in. It's a 3 book hour job to replace. The part cost is between $30-$60. They need to take the intake off to get to the bad part. I'm sure it will be about a $500 fix. I'm not the only one experiencing this problem. If you google search this vehicle you will find that many other vans are having the same issue.

6 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 02/22/2015

I had my camshaft rear plug replaced after in came out and leaked oil everywhere in 2014. Now it's come out again doing the same thing. What can I do to keep it from happening again and again. Is it the plug or the camshaft that's blowing it out. I can't find any schematic to show me why or what to do.

7 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 12/12/2011

I have owned my 2006 kia Sedona since Jan 2008 and have had a persistent problem of oil leaking from the valve covers and the oil pan gasket. This oil leak issue has been ¿fixed 5 times till now, on warranty coverage at the following kia dealerships (in descending order of dates)¿ - 1) fullerton kia on 10/29/2010 2) fullerton kia on 08/21/2010 3) glendale kia on 06/08/2009 4) glendale kia on 12/24/2008 5) fullerton kia on 01/30/2008 due to the design and placement of the engine parts on the 2006 Sedona, oil leaking from the valve cover on the top, falls directly on the alternator located just below it. With time, the oil leak residue clogs up the alternator itself, thereby leading to failure of the battery charging system (which has been replaced three times already on warranty coverage) and also the alternator breaking down itself. There have been 2 occasions where my vehicle has gone completely dead and stalled in the middle of the highway when I was driving, leading to a dangerous safety issue for my family. On both occasions the vehicle had to be towed in to a dealership and the alternator was replaced on warranty coverage. Following are the dealerships and dates when the battery/alternator was replaced (in descending order of dates) - 1) fullerton kia on 05/10/2011 (alternator) 2) fullerton kia on 10/29/2010 (battery) 3) glendale kia on 08/22/2009 (alternator) 4) glendale kia on 08/22/2009 (battery) 5) glendale kia on 06/08/2009 (battery) I now have the same oil leak problem once again and the oil has already started seeping from the valve covers into the alternator. I am dreading the day in the near future when the alternator will stop working and cause my vehicle to stall again on the road when my family and kids are driving in it. There appears to be a huge quality/safety issue related to the kia spare parts used to fix the oil leak problem.

8 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 03/22/2011

The contact owns a 2006 kia Sedona. The contact stated that the vehicle would stall as soon as the engine was started. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was advised that the junction box and instrument panel module needed to be replaced. In addition, the engine was leaking oil into the alternator. The dealer made repairs to rectify the oil leak failure but to no avail. The instrument panel module and junction box were not replaced. The failure mileage was 100,783.

9 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 04/03/2007

This van has brake problems squeaking and wearing out pads way too fast. I was told nothing is wrong with the brake system but when taking it to a brake shop I was told the calipers are bad, kia has not fixed them and denies that they're bad. The check engine light came on and I was told that a spark plug had misfired, that was fixed under warranty and then another spark plug misfired and was fixed under warranty. The oil level was getting low but I had no leak and I was told that the oil filter was simply loose so they said they fixed it. I asked if I should bring the van back in a week to have the oil level checked and we were assured there was no leak. Check engine light came on again and the oil light flickered, did not stay illuminated, so we took it to the dealership immediately, as the owners manual and the mechanic had stated. Then we're told that there's sludge in the engine and that it will be 2,000 dollars to take it apart and check the damage that we caused from continuing to drive it. They never told us there was any reason to not drive it nor did they mention sludge previously. The van will be towed back to kia tomorrow.

10 Engine Oil Leaking problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 03/10/2004

Oil leaks - 2004 kia sorento. Compliant form does not allow me to select sorento as vehicle model when completing this form. Dealer replaced oil plug gasket twice. Been in for oil leak complaints 4 times. Last time there Jan 05, 2005 dealer service says problem is oil filter leaking because of defective oil filter design. Dealer service says kia in process of re-design of filter. When new oil filters available dealer says unknown. Find this explanation of problem to be unbelievable. Don't believe 2004 engine different from 2003 engine in this vehicle. When last in dealer service another customer was in for same type of problem; oil leaks in 2004 sorento. Was in multiple times for a solution. Used to have sorento 2003 and never had leaking oil, kia replaced my 2003 with a 2004 sorento because of major problems with 2003. Engine oil leaking was not one of the problems with 2003. Believe same engine used in both models. Don't believe problem is oil filter design.
