Steering Problems of Kia Motor Sedona - part 1

I have a 2016 kia Sedona. Engines on the vehicle have been known to be bad and I already had 1 engine replaced under their extended warranty that covers to 150000 miles after a blown head gasket. I got a new engine 11/2024 however car overheats & coolant leak everywhere&bust hoses. I was told to replace radiator and all cooling/heater hoses, but video show coolant bubbling car still overheating. Replaced one loose hose under warranty. Car overheats again was told to replace relay switch for fan another. Dealer crash my car waited a month for parts and they never repaired damages to my bumper and airbag light. 2 month later car overheats again now coolant spraying into trunk and hose pop again now at heater core. There is no light notice of when car overheating tiil very hot. Or someone tells me my car is smoking by then it is followed by a loud noise and coolant leaking everywhere again. This time the overheating bust the heater core hose in my trunk and was spraying coolant all in trunk while I was getting ready to get of freeway. Very scary. I pulled over just in time for noise and coolant to leak out everything from resovoir again. This is my family car and have 5 kids under 18 and feel very unsafe now. Despite paying for everything kia suggest every 1-2 months they still fail to find cause of overheating and constant hoses breaking or coming loose after the pressure build up and I am scared this car will catch fire or stall one day with my children in car. Already noticed sometime its like car struggles to accelerate despite a supposed new engine but car been constantly overheating even after engine replacement and it also still causes sludge in hose& had 4 coolant flushes in a year and new hoses and now seems people working on car not sure what they doing because I was told I needed new heater hoses 2months later they didn't know my heater core was at back car so didn't replace so this hose burst despite kia recommendation to replace. Please help b4 it too late.

While parking, the power steering hose melted and power steering liquid leaked, causing the engine room and the bottom of the engine room to catch fire. There was danger to the driver and cars parked nearby. The problem was confirmed and repaired at a auto repair shop. Firefighters responded and the insurance company inspected the vehicle. Before the error occurred, there were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of a problem.

Vehicle shut off while driving for no apparent reason. Vehicle had plenty of fuel and battery measures 12. 8 volts with engine off, 13. 8 volts when vehicle is on. No error code. Steering and braking stopped working correctly. We were traveling through a parking lot at the time so luckily not at high speed or this could have ended deadly. The vehicle would not immediately start back up, we put it in park, turned the key and the engine would turn over but not start. After 4 or 5 tries it did start, and the only fault to appear was the abs light which came on and stayed on solid. After parking and shutting the vehicle off and restarting it the abs light went away. No other fault codes are or were present.

Engine rod failed, puncturing the engine causing oil to spill, resulting in the car catching on fire while driving.

Steering wheel became stiff and it's not steering. Yes, vehicle is available for inspection. Driving on freeway with my children in the vehicle when wheel became stiff. Was able to get off ramp and get home. Incident happened on 10/02/2022, currently on 2 hour hold with kia (800-333-4542). Called local dealership, but was sent to voice mail for service department. No, vehicle has not been inspected. There were no warning lamps or messages at time of incident nor prior symptoms. Turned vehicle on this am (10/03/2022) and no warning lights nor messages have appeared. Checked power steering fluid level and it is at the recommended level.

When the abs brakes activate while going at a very slow speed during snowy or rainy weather the steering wheel locks and the dashboard lights come on. I have no control of the car. It's very scary. Very much a safety issue. I took it to the shop, but they didn't come up with anything. It has happened about 5 times over the past 2 years. The mileage varies. The most recent incident the vehicle had 210,000 miles.

The contact then drove to a nearby parking lot and had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic. The contact was informed that the lower control arm needed to be replaced due to severe rusting. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 161,000.

My 2017 kia Sedona shut off while in motion on a street. I had to put my car in park turn the key and then restart my car. This happens on 10/31/2019. Roughly 20 minutes later it happened again while on the highway. It was towed to the kia service center and they could not replicate the issue. On 2/1/2020 my car shut off again while at a red light. On 2/25/2020 while the vehicle was in motion it shut off again. This time a car behind me had to swerve into the other lane in order not to slam in to me. On 2/26/2020 while driving my daughter to school it shut off again while in motion. The vehicle was towed to kia service center. It is still currently there. They are stating they can't replicate the issue.

2019 kia Sedona with 2600 miles on it, while driving the car down the road, it has extreme alignment issues wanting to go to the left, almost caused 3 different accidents putting my life and my family's life in danger. In order to keep the the car going straight, you really have to hold the steering wheel tightly.

Any time there is buddle of water on the road at low speed under 15 I lost control of steering and power you can't turn the steering and has power warning on the dash sometime on car wash I have to push gas to get power on again.

While driving around a corner doing 25 mph, on a back road that was dry, I corrected the steering to the left out of the curve and the steering continued to pull to the right and would not correct. Vehicle went down a 20 foot embankment and struck a tree head on. The airbags did not deploy in the collision and the engine did not shut off. I sustained serious injuries, resulting in 4 months of missed work and a double discectomy to repair two severely herniated discs. Until my surgery I was in a wheelchair from these injuries, as my spinal cord was compressed by the discs in my neck. The kia service department and the customer relations hotline will not speak to me regarding the safety features other than to say there has not been a recall. It is my understanding that the airbags should deploy from a full front impact going a speed of at least 25mph (as there was downward momentum at that point) however the auto body repair shop that our insurance company assigned us to says the airbags are not designed to deploy in such an accident. As I cannot get an answer from kia as to whether this has merit, I am left driving a vehicle that I am unsure is safe.

There is a recall on my vehicle for the control arms. I found this out when I did a google search because mine has broken nearly completely in half as I was driving it. I was on a city street and it snapped as I was applying the brakes. After that it was giving me issues turning left and braking. The recall states that the control arms will rust and break which is exactly what happened. But apparently my vehicle has a canadian VIN number and because of that kia will not honor the recall and I have to get it fixed myself. I can even put my VIN number into the kia canada website and the recall pips up. They gave me the toll free number to kia canada which I tried to call but can't get through because it is �not available from my area� in my opinion kia is kia. No matter where I am and where my car is from. I shouldn't have to go to canada to fix the recall!! the company as a whole should be more concerned with their consumers and ensure our safety and that is not what they are doing! I had my baby in the car and a couple other people and this could have cause great injury to all of us.

Rented a car from the airport in denver and it was the last 4 cars on there lot. I was driving the car lost in denver car was pulling to the center of the caron both sides. I said there is something wrong with this car. I was looking for street signs about 20 mph and the car took off and hit 2 cars the air bags went off I let go of streeing wheel and the car was towed to the salvage lot in 20 days rental place never contacted me put money back in my acct and never gave me my things in travel. Now I have to get a lawyer to defend me. And I am bless I have a broken screw in my fusion and I could of been paralyzed this car should not be on the road.

The persistent problem that we have had with our vehicle is the engine shuts down while driving, causing a serious safety hazard. The safety hazard is serious in that, while the vehicle is in motion, power steering shuts off and the brakes are slow to work. Each occurrence has happened when the vehicle is in drive and moving at a speed of approximately 20-25 mph. This has happened 3 times: - January 29,2017 - January 30, 2017 - February 16, 2017 the circumstances in each instance included driving and maintaining approximately 20-25 mph. Other factors are unknown. Fortunately, in each instance, I was able to pull safely to the side of the road and assess the vehicle. The first two occurrences, I pushed the start button and it was evident the vehicle starting system was acting unusual as it tried starting. The vehicle eventually started and I was able to continue driving. The third occurrence on February 16, 2017, I took kia's advice and did not attempt to start the vehicle and contacted kia roadside service. The second event occurred the next day on January 30, 2016 under similar circumstances. Again I was able to pull over without the power steering system functioning properly to a safe area and re-start the vehicle with the same uncommon sounds from the starting system. I called joe myers kia in houston, texas and explained the occurrences. On January 31, I drove the vehicle to joe myers kia for troubleshooting and repair of the vehicle. The vehicle has been to the dealership two times to address the safety defect. The first time was January 24, 2017 for 8 days. The service department could not duplicate the concern. The next time, it was towed on February 16, 2017 and it stayed there for 41 days. Kia did install a flight recorder to record all systems the second time the vehicle was brought in.

When going through a puddle of some depth maybe 6 inches(not sure exactly), the power steering will stop and a couple of lights come on, on the dashboard. Then about 15 seconds later all goes back to normal. Always seems to happen when turning left or right.

Kia Sedona recall on hood latch and front lower control arms related to vibration/steering. I expect the dealer to pick up, fix and return the vehicle. Dealer indicated they would not. My having to deliver and pick up the vehicle would be an expense to me through no fault of mine. Recalls should cover all expenses including pick up and delivery. My dealer is 2 hours away!.

A year ago I do receive a recall letter notifying for rusty lower arms wheels to be replaced but such thing never happened. The dealer just apply more rust inhibitors but procedures was not the appropriate cure for the problem. When the vehicle is on motion a very disturbing noise came just under the wheels. I was driving the vehicle at approximately 35 mph. All of a sudden I heard a loud thud. The wheel jerked violently to the left and my vehicle began careening left toward the side of the road. I immediately began braking. I was able to stop the vehicle and exit safely. Upon inspection of the vehicle, I noticed that the front wheels were pointing in slightly different directions, and the front left wheel was moved significantly back in its well toward the rear of the vehicle. Upon inspection of the suspension components, it was immediately clear that the front left lower control arm broke while the vehicle was in motion. There has been a recall (campaign number 13v550000) on the lca for this vehicle, located in michigan, and the recall was performed by a dealership. This failure was after the recall had already been performed. Apparently this lca didn't meet the criteria for replacement, and was "rustproofed" instead. The rustproofing did not prevent this lca from failure. The vehicle has less than 104,000 miles. Had I been traveling faster, or had there been an oncoming car, the outcome could have been significantly worse or even fatal. I did receive a mild injury to my right wrist when the wheel jerked violently. The tendon is hyper-extended and requires that I wear a wrist brace.

The contact owns a 2006 kia Sedona. Immediately after the contact exited the vehicle, the doors and the steering wheel locked automatically and the alarm system sounded without warning. Whenever the contact drove over 55 mph, the steering locked. Each time the failure occurred, the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road, turned off, and then restarted. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The dealer did not test drive the vehicle to see if the failure could be duplicated. The failure recurred several times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they had never heard of such a failure. The failure was not remedied. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v389000 (latches/locks/linkages). The failure mileage was 125,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

Had turned on the air in the seat and smelled a plastic burning smell when I parked my car and went in my house to get my swimsuit and towel and returned outside smoke was rolling out of the car. The car was on fire at the drivers side seat.

Vehicle is hard to turn at <5mph or idle and jerks or refuses to respond.

Was leaving our local walmart ; and when almost to the intersection; felt the car wheel wobble like I got a flat tire. So I stopped and got out and looked; didn't see any flats ; started to go and a thunk ; and then I couldn't move; both front tires were pointing in opposite directions. Had to have it towed home; and haven't been able to look and see what the problem is because of the weather. I sure am glad I wasn't going down the interstate at that time; is where I was going .

My van wont steer. It is tight and wont let me go left or right.

Steering wheel will not turn at low speeds. This has almost caused accidents on several occasions. Steering wheel will not turn or becomes very difficult to turn when I back out of my driveway or out of a parking space.

The contact owns a 2005 kia Sedona. The contact stated while driving 5 mph, the steering wheel turned in a full circle several times independently. The air bag warning light illuminated and the horn sounded prior to the engine shutting off. The vehicle was merged to the side of the road. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

While driving in wet conditions the brake and battery light will come on instrument panel and there is a loss of power of steering. When taken to kia dealership to fix problem they told us it is a common complaint among kia cars. They checked all belts, battery and alternater all tests came back normal. While driving it is dangerous to lose power of steering especially in wet conditions.

While making right and left turns the steering becomes very tight. The power steering fluid was fine. No other warnings. This made me very scared to make turns. I did my best to avoid turns only if absolutely necessary for two days. In my 32 years of driving I have never had this happen to me. When I took it to tire choice and total car care they said it was my intermediate steering shaft need to be replaced. I had it replaced that day 9/20/14.

The drivers side lower control arm severed causing the vehicle to be uncontrollable yielding substantial damage.

In March 2014 we received a recall notice kia recall #sc100. This was concerning the lower front control arms being subject to rust and failure for northern vehicles. The vehicle was taken to paramount kia, hickory nc. According to kia the control arms were inspected and found to be in satisfactory condition. Approximately two months later the front passenger side control arm broke in two. I had the vehicle towed the a local garage and the arm was changed out with a used like new control arm. On Friday August 14th 2015 the drivers side control arm broke into. I called kia and was told that because it was inspected in March 2014 and nothing was done then that there was noting that could be done now. Needing the vehicle for transportation elected to have it towed to the garage that fixed it the last time to get it fixed again. Kia is aware of the problem with these control arms however has elected not to do anything with the ones on my vehicle. I do feel that I should be reimbursed for the cost of having the vehicle towed twice and the cost of parts and labor to have the arms replaced. I complaint has been filed with kia also.
