36 Steering problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 04/15/2014

My fiance' dropped our oldest daughter off at school. While driving home she heard a loud clunk but everything felt fine. She then went to drop off our youngest at the babysitters. She then went to turn around in the driveway and heard a loud pop and felt the front end of the van fall. She got out to find the driver's front tire completely flat and the sway bar shoved into the tire. Upon further inspection we found both sway bar end links had completely failed. The balls had completely rusted out of their sockets and allowed the sway bar to fall in a way that allowed it to rupture the tire. Kia has a problem with front suspension components rusting out and failing. We were going to take the van in for the lower control arm recall because they are breaking due to rust. I contacted my dealer and they told me the tire and sway bar would not be covered by the control arm recall. I am currently working with Kia Motors to see if they will resolve this issue. Had this happened while travelling down the road at highway speeds, the outcome would have been much worse and possibly tragic. I do have pictures of the damage if needed.

37 Steering problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 01/02/2014

After parking vehicle, went to exit and could not remove ignition key. Key turned off vehicle but would only go as far accs, which means while motor was not running, power was still on. Made sure dash indicator was in park, yet could not remove key. Spoke to a locksmith and added lube to around ignition key without any results. Left inside semi-heated garage overnight in case of frozen components without results. While dash indicator seemed to show proper gear selections, while in park, key could not removed, steering wheel would not lock, and vehicle could be moved forward and backward by manual pushing, in the meantime it was using up the battery. Kia dealership determined "shifter assembly failure", and after $600+ and 6 days for the special ordered part, vehicle was returned, but the failed part was returned to the supplier for a core charge. So if vehicle was parked in a parking lot and ignition key cannot be removed the car could be stolen, if parked on an incline car could roll away because it's truly not in park, and or your battery is dead. There was prior warning of any failure and owned since new.

38 Steering problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 11/07/2013

My vehicle shakes badly. . . Kia, where I purchase my 2006 told me, it is the sub frame which causes my van to shake. The salt in pennsylvania causes the frame of this van to rust away. I well not be able to drive it! there is no recall. . . This will cost me $2,000. 00. I believe if you live. . . Where it snows. The vehicles should be made for states which have snow. . . . . And use salt on the roads. Why should I have to paid for this. The sub frame needs to be recall by kia manufacturer. The mileage on my van is 63,553. Also, kia stated that it will not pass inspection. There was a recall on lower control arms. They fixed that, but still it shakes. It's the sub frame. Guest what! they inspected my van on Jan 8, 2014,. Kia, passed my van for good condition and my van was inspected after they corrected the control arms. Again, it still shakes. . . . It is the sub frame. How did kia pass the van for inspection. "the sub frame is still rotten". So, are they waiting for a accident to happen or someone is killed. Kia you need a recall on sub frame!.

39 Steering problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

Was driving normally and suddenly left front wheel started skidding as it felt like it was turned in a direction that opposed the other front tire direction. Vehicle quickly became unstearable. Left lower control arm was found to be totally rust weakened with large rust holes and cracks. . . . . And after part was removed by a mechanic, I could easily bend the whole control arm in half with very little effort. If this sudden failure had occurred moments earlier with my kids on the way to school and on the highway. . . . This could have been a much worse result. As a result, I also had to replace both front tires, certain parts connecting to this control arm and had to have the vehicle realigned. The opposite control arm on the right side seems to look 'normal' with no apparent rust weakening. It seems as though the intact side has a type of coating that is intact and the failed side is missing much/most of the coating.

40 Steering problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 08/30/2013

I drove 25 minutes from a to b and parked my car. Turned the engine off sat there with the radio on for 1 minute exactly and I hear a. Pshhhhh and smoke rising quickly, then a flame from the fuse box by my left foot. I got out opened the door looked for the smoke and flame that were reflecting and waving. I opened the fuse box slider cover with a knife and started to squirt water out from my bottled water quickly. Thank goodness I had water. Flame went out and I saw the inside of the fuse cover burnt, and a fuse looked like it caught on fire because the fuse looked completely melted. I have a video of the aftermath right after the fire went out. Tomorrow ill be calling insurance, kia, and whoever else that can help me understand what is going on and what I can do to ensure my safety. Please help or approve a recall. Thank goodness I didnt exit my car so quick or alot of the car would have been on fire.

42 Steering problem of the 2009 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

After I checked with kia dealer, I learned that there were 4 recalls since April of 2013 on my kia Sedona; they are (1) stop light switch, (2) lower control arm, (3) rear control arm, and (4) heater pipe replacement. I never received recall notices on this vehicle. However, I received recall notice on my other kia my2009 sportage vehicle, whose recall repair was taken care of immediately after receiving the notice. Kia needs to do a better job for sending out the recall notices.

The factory installed spring type clamp failed to hold the power steering hose on; the hose came off, all the power steering fluid came out and steering was lost. The spring type clamp was replaced with a worm type clamp. Fortunately this happened in a parking lot. If it had happened on the highway or in traffic it could have resulted in an accident. Also the power steering fluid could have blown onto the exhaust system and caused a fire.

49 Steering problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 04/20/2011

The steering in my 2004 kia Sedona is malfuctioning. When turning the steering wheel it now takes a great amount of effort some of the time. It comes and goes. As you turn the wheel it goes from easy to very difficult and you never know when it will happen. After a turn you must turn the wheel back to go straight or it will continue to turn. These 2 problems are very dangerous as I could cause an accident just by making a turn.

We can not turn on our vehicle. Everything works as far as the air conditioner and radio however, the vehicle will not start. After you check the steering wheel and it's position and turn the key on to change between park and neutral, sometimes it will start. Right now we can not find a solution to why it will start and then you can not put it back in park. This is all while the vehicle is stationary.

56 Steering problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 05/04/2007

The 2006 kia Sedona pulled to the left since the day I bought it. The front end has been aligned numerous times and two different kia dealerships insisted that crowning" of roads in my area was causing this. Funny how no other vehicle I've ever had has ever pulled to the left on the very same roads. I have been told by the two kia dealerships that all vehicles "drift" or "veer" to the left when you let go of the steering wheel. Again, this has not been a problem with any other vehicle I've owned in the last 20+ years. My van can now be considered a lemon because it has been to the shop five times. There was also a loud "bumping" noise in the front end when steering sharply to the right and downward. No service personnel at either dealership could cause the noise so, to them it did not exist. They refused to ride with me so I could demonstrate but then finally they did and they heard it! on service trip number five, they replaced bushings on the front end and the noise is gone. This vehicle still "drifts" or "pulls" or "veers" or "meanders" to the left when you turn loose of the wheel. Getting someone to agree with that is an uphill battle that I have not yet won.

57 Steering problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 01/01/2007

My 2006 kia Sedona continues to have shaking in the front wheels. This car has been in and out the dealerships throughout the ownership of this vehicle. The latest problem is a humming noise coming from the fuel tank. The dealer has stated that in his opinion it is a design defect. I contacted kia and they are saying normal wear and tear. How is something like a fuel line that is inside of a fuel tank "normal" wear and tear? normal wear and tear would apply to brakes and other such things. Consumers don't just go to the local auto repair place to have a fuel line making noise fixed on a routine basis. This car was reported under the va. Lemon law process in 2007. Of course, kia being the big guy in this won. Yet, still today the same conditions exist and more. The bottom line is that I am paying for a service and kia has failed as far as I am concerned. Some of the other problems include: 1. Sliding doors stick 2. Drivers side door only locks on occasion with remote 3. The horn is terrible 4. Lumbar support on drivers seat just broke one day while driving 5. Tensioners for timing belt changed shortly after purchasing vehicle 6. Fuel tank is making noise? humming 7. Steering shakes at high speeds and so on. . . . . . We (my family) do not feel safe in what was being sold as the safest minivan on the market at the time of purchase! 58 Steering problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 07/01/2006

: the contact stated the steering wheel pulled to the left while driving 40 mph, and was worse at higher speeds. The vehicle was serviced on more than 3 occasions, but the vehicle continued to pull to the left. The tread of the front wheels had abnormal wear. The service dealer had rotated the tires. The manufacturer was notified and a technician was sent to work on the vehicle, but the steering wheel continued to pull to the left.

59 Steering problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 10/13/2005

A regular maintenance at the dealership caused a defect in my vehicle's brakes, a tire rotation defect and a steering problem(vehicle keeps on pulling to the right and brake pedal too soft and almost touches the floor when used-brake ineffective). The dealer did not show any signs of concern about the safety of the vehicle despite several attempts to address the issue. No choice but to contact company's headquarters.

60 Steering problem of the 2002 Kia Motor Sedona

Failure Date: 11/17/2002

2002 kia Sedona at 19,604 miles took it to the dealership for the floorboard buckles on the driver side when the steering wheel is turned to a full rotation, no problem found at that time , they said they could feel nothing. At 25,000 miles returned to the dealership with the same problem, test drove they could feel the floorboard buckle and was told it is normal. Now at 41,000 miles I have the same problem but the insides of the front tires wore down to the cords and I had to have the tires replaced.
