While accelerating, the gas pedal would not return to the up position causing the vehicle to continue to accelerate. I was able to control the vehicle through a combination of braking and shifting to neutral until the pedal came back up on it's own. Time encompassed was approximately 60 seconds. Traffic on the road was light which made the situation much more manageable.

This has happened 3 times, the latest in November while on the interstate, during rush hour, going 60 miles per hour. My van keeps dying while I'm driving whether it was a sensor or out of gas, whatever the reason, when power goes out, the brake locks up and I have no control to slow down or stop the van. It has to coast until it stops on its own. The last time took me a mile and half to finally stop. This is very dangerous and could cause injury/and or death if there are other vehicles in front of me.

My vehicle suddenly stopped to react to the gas pedal, motor rpm fell down to ~1000 rpm - usually its idle value. The problem happened as I was trying to speed up while entering the traffic on a highway, and it created a dangerous situation. . Read more...
Electronic stability control: the vehicle suddenly stopped to react to the gas pedal, like motor rpm fail, usually its idle valve or speed control. . Read more...
1. Driving van on highway when esc and check engine warning lights came on simultaneously. 2. Vehicle suddenly loses all acceleration. Has happened twice in the past two weeks, both times at highway speeds. 3. Dealership indicates that this is a chronic issue with multiple models and that replacement parts have been redesigned to reduce failure, but that issues are so prevalent that parts are on back order and that it may take "2 weeks or 2 months" to receive parts to correct the problem.

2 months while decelerating at red light, acceleration occurred while pressing brake pedal, stopped within a fraction of an inch from car in front of me. Last night while driving 70mph on hwy esc and check engine lights came on and lost all acceleration function. Car stayed idling but could not regain acceleration. Had to cross over 4 lanes of traffic to get to an offramp exit. Was able to pull over to small shoulder and had myself and 6 children standing on highway while waiting for roadside assistance. The exit was for another hwy so we had no safe place to stand but along the guardrail of 2 hwys. Was told to call a taxi and would be reimbursed. Now Kia Motors is telling me that since I purchased a fleet vehicle I am not covered under a warranty because it is at 70000. Purchased as certified reowned and was told it would be covered for 10 years 10,000 miles. Same problem was recalled on the 06 and 07 models but has not been corrected for 08 model. We all could have been killed!!! dealer was not even able to look at it yet and said they won't until tomorrow so here I am on the second day without transportation and do not know what it is going to take to be fixed. Internet searches and complaint search on this site reveal complaints of the same nature to numerous to count.

Have had vehicle back into dealer 5 times, since Feb 11 first check engine and esc light on and van would not go push down on gas pedal and nothing had it towed in. They reprogrammed and then feb24th esc light on again. Went back in they replaced steering angler sensor. Van still not running right down shifts on its own. Took back they said found no problem to have trans fluid changed so I did and it still happened. Then driving down the road the van s brakes lock up and the engine revved up and almost went through the windshield. Called dealer next day they said I could not get an appt until oct6 almost a month away. I called back and asked if it was safe to drive and he said no I could bring in and they would get to when ever they get a chance, they had it for 5 days and said they couldn't find anything wrong. I went to pick it up started the van to leave and the esc light was on. I went back in and asked why? they took for a ride then put on machine said they needed to order the sensor to replace the same one they replace in Feb. Told me it was safe to drive home and bring back thur sept 22. 2011, so drive home get 2 blocks from home and the brakes locked up the tires squeal and I slid off the side of the road luckily I didn't hit anything. Scared me death. Had van towed back to dealer and its still there now. I called kia main office to discuss problem and how im very worried about the safety of my van. He said he'd call back yesterday but haven't heard from him yet. I tried to call him 2 times today and no answer. Then the dealer called said they did some reprogramming but still looking for the problem they are driving it to see if it does it for them if not they will just give it back to me. That makes me feel really safe I don't want to drive it until I know its fixed and safe. They acted like they have never heard of this problem before.

Acceleration failure gas pedal un-responsive has occurred on multiple occasions over the past few months. Mileage at onset approx. 28,000, current mileage 37,000. 1- first occurrence June 13th 2010 traveling on freeway when loss of acceleration caused vehicle to become dangerous as navigation off the highway was reliant on drifting to shoulder with no power; once off the road turning off and restarting the engine caused the gas pedal to reengage - however during the 4 hour trip the issue repeated 7 times with the most dangerous occurrence in an area of construction where no shoulder was available to pull off. As this issue occurred on a Sunday, taking the vehicle in for service was not an option until Monday, and during the waiting period the check engine light was no longer illuminated and therefore the code for investigation unavailable. 2-issue occurred again on Saturday, July 30, 2010 while traveling on the highway after one hour of travel and repeated every 10-15 miles; on this date turning off and restarting the engine multiple times was required to regain gas pedal control. Serious safety issue when the loss of power was experienced while passing traffic and navigation off the road from the passing lane required returning to the right lane in high traffic with no ability to adjust speed. On the 2. 5 hour return commute the issue did not resurface. 3- the issue again repeated on Sunday, August 1, 2010 while traveling on arterial roads, during the 45 minute commute the issue repeated 3 times at varying speeds from 45 - 60 mph. Young automotive group in lansing was contacted first thing this morning and the vehicle is scheduled for next available service on Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010.
The contact owns a 2008 kia Sedona. While driving at 55 mph, the check engine light illuminated the vehicle began to lose power. The engine did not shut off and the contact was able to pull over on the side of the road, shut the vehicle off and re-start. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the throttle position sensor was replaced. However the failure continued. The failure and the current mileages were approximately 28,000.
Ltr fwd fm (va) us navy personnel serving overseas in italy having difficulties getting the throttle position sensor on a 2008 kia Sedona lx repaired due to the screw holes and plug of replacement not lining up, reply to chesapeake , va the consumer stated while driving, she would loose throttle power. She applied the accelerator, but nothing happened. The vehicle would just continue to slow down, until she had no choice, but to pull over. The consumer was informed the throttle position sensor was defective and it needed to be replaced with an upgraded model. The part was ordered, and arrived at the dealer. However, it was soon discovered the screw holes and plug to the engine did not line up with the previous tps. There was no way to attach the new part to the vehicle.
Defective throttle position sensor causes the kia Sedona van to suddenly and unexpectedly stop with no throttle control. Failure rate in our fleet has been over 50%. That is right, 50%!!! see past safety complaints, with VIN#'s to expedite kia verification. Note: failed multiple times w/ 5 month old grandson on board.

2006 kia Sedona-engine accelerates when coming to a stop, or driving slowly. Have to keep the brake pedal pressed very hard to avoid the vehicle lurching and running into or over some thing, or someone. This has happened at traffic intersections while slowing for a red light, and in a parking lot at a college campus with pedestrians who could have been struck by the van. The problem occurs randomly, you never know when to expect it.
Defective throttle position sensor causes the Sedona van to suddenly and unexpectedly stop with no throttle control. This is a known defect with the manufacturer, however, they will not repair until the sensor fails. This is unacceptable, considering that there is no warning signs, and the car has to be in motion at time of failure. This could result in death or serious injury should the failure occur at high speeds or if in a driving situation that require accelerator. If Toyota was forced to recall cars because of a slow, progressive, wearing of the throttle control, then the NHTSA should classified this defect as an even more serious threat to customer safety. Out of 40 vehicles in our fleet, 20 have failed. This is a 50% failure rate.
Defective throttle position sensor. Suddenly and unexpectedly the van goes to idle and there is no throttle control. Dealership will not repair unless it goes bad, even though this is one of many that have already proven to be defective. We have 40 of these models in our fleet, with 20 of them failed while being driven. That is a 50% defective rate!! these vehicles should be recalled to protect the customer from possible life threading situation. Especially, since this is a sudden unexpected occurrence that can only happen while driving, and the manufacturer has denied accountability to preemptively fix these vehicles.
Driving down the freeway. 2009 kia Sedona stops. Somebody is going to be seriously injured if a Sedona suddenly stops on the freeway and is hit from behind by a vehicle traveling 70 mph! there is a serious safety concern with these vans.
Kia Sedona 2004 traveling about 30 mph with gentle acceleration. Car without using accelerator sped up to 40+ mph and brakes could not stop car. Car stopped by pulling over and turning off engine.
Minivan suddenly drops out of drive when accelerating on highway. Has happened twice, gear shift was in proper position. Had to emergency brake and pull off highway (coasting) and turn off engine and restart. Gear/pedal then reengaged and was able to resume driving. Dealer says they cannot recreate problem. Very concerning.
This is a brand new 2007 kia Sedona. I was merging on a highway and pressed the acceleration pedal as usual when I noticed immediately that the car was stuck on the acceleration mode despite the fact my foot was no longer on the gas pedal. The car would not slow down or stop despite my foot pressing firming them slamming the brakes. In fact the engine/motor kept racing even though now I was slamming on the emergency brakes. Although I could not look down at the dashboard, my minivan must have been going over 100mph in moderate traffic. This continued until I passed another exit. The only resolution was to shift the car into neutral which slowed it down and then I was able to put the car into a narrow shoulder and put it in park then turned the car off right away. My family and I were almost killed because of this vehicle failure!.
The contact owns a 2007 kia Sedona. The contact noticed that the computer in the vehicle would sometimes accelerate on its own. The first instance occurred while test driving the vehicle. Two weeks after purchasing the vehicle, the failure recurred. While driving in reverse at 20 mph, the contact crashed into a fencepost due to the failure. He took the vehicle to the dealer nine times for a diagnostic, but no error codes could be found. The manufacturer did not assist. The current mileage was 42,833 and failure mileage was 30,193.

On the way to the dealership the vehicle stalled nine times. The dealership adjusted the idling and the vehicle was repaired. Less than a week later the check engine light came on again, and the car did not stall. Called the dealership; they said it was the throttle sensor. The parts were unavailable until the next week. The consumer owns a 2005 kia Sedona. She purchased the vehicle on 6-20-05, and twenty minutes after she drove the car off the lot, the radio quit working along with the ignition light illuminating. The consumer took the vehicle back to the dealership, and they could not service the car that day but made an appointment to come back on 6-22-05. The dealership kept the vehicle for three days. On 7-26-05 the brake went all the way to the floor and made a loud ticking noise while turning. The consumer took the vehicle to another dealership for repairs, and they resurfaced the brakes and the ignition. On 7-31-05 the brakes failed. The consumer tried to pump the brakes and they would not catch. To keep from hitting the vehicle in front, she veered to the left and ran onto the median, causing two blow outs on the driver's front and rear. The consumer had the vehicle towed to aaa, and they replaced one of the tires and placed the spare on the vehicle. There where no injuries in this accident. Also, one of the tires in the accident looked as if someone had taken a knife and cut the tire. The cut was so clean that the dealership refused to repair the tire or the rim. The consumer had to buy a new tire and rim. On 8-18-05 the van was taken back to kia,. The consumer was given a rental car. The consumer had gotten the vehicle back on August 28, 2005. On 8-19-05 the consumer received a recall letter concerning the gas pedal and braking problems. (11/30/05) the emission light had come on and smoke was seen coming from under the vehicle, there was a loud ticking sound heard when turning the steering and a coil was repaired as a result, the grease seal leaked and there was a hesitation when the vehicle kicked into gear.
I received a recall letter dated 04/04/05 stating that the throttle may freeze in my 2003 kia Sedona. I immediately called my dealer and was told that the dealership was short handed and someone would get back to me. I also called the kia consumer assistance center and left a message on 04/26/05 and still no response. Our kia Sedona account is under my husbands name, donald a dudley. He is an over the road truck driver and is away from home alot. My complaint is that no one seems to be listening to me or wanting to answer my questions. I am getting a major brush off from the dealership I purchased the van from and from their consumer assistance center.
