I own a 1999 kia Sephia and my daughter uses it at school. The problem is that kia will not honor the warranty for the repair of the catalytic converter. The case ref nbr is k1085742. Many reason were given, all relating to a manual engine flush, coolant flush, etc. My research shows that there is no correlation between the defective part and the selected maintenance item. My daughter should not have paid for the converter. (also they are about 50% of their cost on the open market).

I've had many problems with the catalytic converters disintegrating from within. I've had them replaced many times at least 3 or 4 times in the last 2 yrs the most recent was this summer about 2 months ago. I am having this problem again it begins to act like it's going to stall, then starts vigourously shaking, and it also loses acceleration speed. I'll be driving and all of a sudden it starts acting up and losing speed and it wont go any higher than 20 mph or so. This is a continuous problem and one that I consider very dangerous because I could be driving on a busy street or a hwy and I lose acceleration speed and it shakes. This poses a problem to my own safety and that of others driving while these effects occur. I'm scared it will blow up, burn up, or fall apart with all the shaking or even stall and cause a major accident. Please help!!! I've taken it numerous times to the dealership to get this fixed and I've only gotten a temporary fix as you can see. If its not the catalytic converter, its the fuel injectors, or the fuel gauge, it's always one thing or anther. This car is a lemon!!!.

The sensor/gas level in the gas tank went out when the car had 53000 + or - on it and it cost us $300 to fix it. The driver's door doesn't seal. And now, as we left a store tonight, the flashing (yes flashing) check engine light came on again and the car is sputtering and clanging from under the bonnet. It is in the evening and a Friday night. I opened the hood and it smelled funky/burnt. It was sputtering. The car currently has 72000 miles on it. I'll try to get it looked at in the morrow.
When driving 25-30 mph vehicle will vibrate and hesitate, and engine check light comes on. Vehicle taken to dealer 6 times, replaced fuel pump/ catalytic converter/ reset codes, and changed spark plugs. Did not remedy problem.
When consumer bought vehicle brand new she noticed that vehicle had a burning smell like rubber. Also, vehicle will hesitate, and wouldn't move at all. Dealership was aware of problem.
Transmission has been worked on over past year. Abs light came on and stayed on due to catalytic converter failure. Wheel bearing failed and was replaced. Automatic transmission had no engagement due to half shaft failure. Engine stalled at a stop due to transmission assembly failure. Brakes were noisy and were replaced, including the rotors. Engine will not start due to battery and starter failure.
Converter seam split open, dealer charging to replace, is there a warranty for this part ?.
The mold in the car has caused two people to get sick . We have told kia of the problem and they have not done anything for us. The car has been test for toxicity mold. I have contacted the bbb auto line and nothing as been resolved in this matter. We are seeing a doctor for the mold and are unable to drive the vehicle on doctor's order and do to the level of mold in the vehicle.
Since purchase have returned car under warranty at least 10 times, always for the same problem having to do with the catalytic converter, emissions system, and brakes. About once a month, check engine light flashes, car lurches and is shakey, often with a funny noise and bad smell. Dealership has "fixed" same problem each time, to no avail. Danger factor has increased as I now live in snowy climate. Car has no power, then lurches forward at high speed, stops in traffic, stalls or won't start at all. Tachometer goes up to 4 or 5 before leaving first gear (car is automatic). Dealer sold this car to me as a demo, but contract says used. Help -- this is a terrible, dangerous car and has been in the shop for at least 90 out of the last 300 days.
The 4-wheel drive failed to work properly in snow, it went out. Also, disc brakes were not working when applied. Took to dealer & informed disc brakes were warped. Catalytic convertor had failed. In addition, mechanic found that the muffler did not work properly due to having a hole in it. All parts has to be replaced. Owner feels its a lemon. Mfg is no help.
