The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who called the local dealer cma's colonial kia (2300 walthall center dr, south chesterfield, va 23834, (804) 431-3838) regarding an unknown recall for the engine to be performed. I had taken my vehicle into kia on 02/22/21 to have the engine looked at because it is knocking, and I am experiencing loss of power, burning smells, jerking, stalling, having to add oil in my SUV weekly. We already replaced the valve cover gasket twice, and also the high fuel rail sensor, spark plugs prior to taking it back to them. We had a certified mechanic do the repairs for us. My SUV was at kia a total of 45 days though and I got maybe four phone calls, one they just told me I need a new engine and the issues are related to issues pertaining to the recall. The others were about the airbag recalls that needed to be done, and are not even fully complete. I was told by a gentleman named david to drive it when I get it back until it seizes or starts knocking, whatever comes first. I told them everything else that's been happening when I took it in so they know. I was told under kia guidelines that kia would not put a new engine in my vehicle under the recall even though my engine is part of the recall until something actually happens. That is not safe! I have children and I don't want to get hurt or my children to get hurt if it seizes while driving it, and then there is the fire risk with it also that I received a letter for. I am really concerned and frustrated. It wont even pass smog right now until it has a new engine and I cannot even get my tags and registration which I paid for until it passes smog. Here I am also paying a car payment monthly on this thing when clearly the engine is failing because it is a bad engine. All I did was drive it around town taking my kids to school and back and forth to work. I filed two complaints to kia regarding these issues and have not gotten any responses, they have treated me like crap. When I picked up my SUV it was completely out of gas, it has no oil in it, it was dirty and my brand new battery was dead.

The vehicle was taken to an independnent mechanic who observed the vehicle shutting on and off and referred the contact to danbury kia (100a federal road, danbury, CT 06810, (203) 730-5737). The dealer recommended the starter be replaced. The repairs were completed but the vehicle loss acceleration the same day after it was picked up and shut off when it was pulled over. Car stalls out while driving then I have to pull over and restart it and it has a jerking to it when this happens.
The car had emissions issues, attempted to repair, after installing all new parts ourselves still was showing emission code, looked up if there was a recall, and there was a safety recall on the engine due to poor machining can cause the engine to seize and cause operator to loose control. Contacted kia and they towed the vehicle to a local dealership in kingston NY. Originally claimed they would replace the engine and two other recalls. Two days later received a call from the kia dealer stating that they would not change the engine due to the fact the emissions light was on and that we had worked on the car. The emissions code is unrelated to the issue of the recall. The car is still with the original owner. Do they still have to do the engine replacement regardless of us attempting the emission issue? her 16 year old daughter was going be the one driving the vehicle- we are concerned that the car is unsafe due to the recall they are refusing to repair.
There were premature engine barring wear which caused the car to seize and blow a rod out the bottom of the car which started a small fire. I was getting off the highway when engine light had come on when I got to on ramp it sputtered and stalled, oil light came on and car stalled then people yelled get out cause there was a fire under the front of my car. Police incident report number 52-5954-19 trp. Harrison 616-403-0698.
My car has been having strange intermittent engine troubles & symptoms. (the first symptoms appeared in September 2019) it started with the accelerater going out on the highway over about 50 mph once or twice randomly. About a month later it did it again. And then this time it also stalled at a stop sign. Other times it feels like the car engine hiccups. It will lose power and come back on within a half second. And then continue as if nothing happened for another month. Recently the symptoms are happening more often. It is terrifying. I can't drive on the highway because I am so scared. At this point, these symptoms have now taken place numerous times and it doesn't matter what speed - when in motion up to 60-70 mph, around 30 mph, at a stop sign, when I was trying to turn left, etc. I have taken it to a mechanic several times since the first symptom. And I have taken it to a kia service location. All have said the car seems to be running great and there are no codes showing up or engine lights coming on. They cannot see anything wrong with the car unless the symptoms appear. I have seen some articles online about a recall for kia's of my year with the same symptoms, but this recall is not on my VIN? I am honestly so upset because I loved this car. I have been looking for a new car, but I really just wanted to get this fixed. I do believe my car is affected by the other recall, but why isnt it showing up? what do I do? this car is putting my life and other peoples lives in danger. I have a lot of travel coming up and I don't know what to do. I need a safe car and I am terrified to drive right now. Can you please help me?.
The motor seized causing the vehicle to stall. I was driving winding mountain roads at a consistent 40-45 mph and when I took one of the curves, the motor seized causing the power steering to also fail. Which made it very difficult to steer away from the cliff adjacent to the road. My mechanics replaced my motor but said the original motor was completely seized to the point that he couldn't work on it.
First time in 2017 started car and it started knocking, as I drove it got louder, engine light came on, drove it to kia dealer and motor had thrown a rod, kia honored their recall and supposed new motor was installed with 60 days. No problems until yesterday, 15,000 miles on new motor, as I was driving on freeway at 70mph, engine light came on, so I pulled over within a minute and called tow truck and towed to kia dealer. They were hoping it was just a coil, but today they told me it was the motor again. This time they said kia said I must have drove it a lot after the light came on and would not give me another motor ??? I had bought the extra 20,000 mile guarantee, so even though this supposed new motor only has 16,000 miles running time on it, my mileage is at 111,000 since the first one blew at 95,000. So I should still be getting another motor, but, after reading all of these accounts, looks like I was so lucky for it not to have caught on fire, even if I get it back, I don't think I can put my grandkids in it again, and its almost paid off, love my car, but someone is going to get killed, something needs to be done, soon.
While accelerating after a right hand turn into turn only lane headed for highway, my car just seized up and stalled out. I glided to stop and shut off the engine, turned it back on. I accelerated onto on ramp of highway and it seized up again completely stalling. When checking oil levels there was had none, my husband brought me 4 quarts of oil (always followed dealership protocol on oil changes), tried engine again nothing. Towed it to dealer, they removed and dissembled the engine to find point of failure. Found #1 and #4 connecting rod bearings to have spun and welded them self to the crank shaft, also found #2 and #3 to be worn down/chewed up, found bearing debris in the oil pan and through out the engine, needed to replace the engine and all needed seals and gaskets.
Tl the contact owned a 2012 kia Sorento. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and black smoke appeared. In addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact was made aware that the vehicle was being engulfed in flames by another driver. The fire department was contacted and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard where it was deemed destroyed. There were no injuries. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The failure mileage was 101,000.
Vehicle stalls while in motion and when stopped. When it stalls in motion, there is no steering or brakes. Awd kicks in for no reason and will not go off. I had the vehicle checked and both the map sensor and vcma actuator were both replaced as recommended by the diagnostic computer. I did have a tune up on the vehicle one day prior so I had hoped the spark plugs were the problem. Problem resumed one day after bringing home from shop. I called kia after seeing there was a recall in may of 2017 that covered certain Sorento models that were stalling, however I was told mine was not a part of this recall. I don't know what to do now other than to take it to kia and spend enormous amounts in repairs.
My kia Sorento died by the side of the road stalling repeatedly while I was driving and, of course, steering wheel locks up and was told eventually that the engine seized up. They had to replace engine (at my cost, of course) as warranty not considered valid by lack of enough maintenance records.
While driving the vehicle under normal operating conditions the tachometer will drop to zero and the car will start to sputter and stall. This occurs intermittently sometimes while on the highway sometimes at stop lights or stop signs. This vehicle only has 142k miles and has had the cam sensors replaced by the dealership but is still having issues that they don't want to track down.
Our car started showing engine problems. It was blowing big puffs of smoke out not the exhaust when accelerating, it was very sluggish, it would also try to stall out here and there. We had it towed to the dealer. It is part of the recall for the engine. They "tested" it and said the engine passed but took a video of the smoke coming from the exhaust and sent it to their techs to see how to resolve the issue. Now waiting on an answer. No transportation has been provided. Paid out almost $300 in the last week for a rental. The dealership basically told us we were on our own transportation wise.
The contact owns a 2012 kia Sorento. While stopping or making a left turn at low speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the cause ofthe failure could not be determined. The dealer (peak kia littleton/denver, 5077 s wadsworth blvd, littleton, CO 80123 (303) 562-0442) was contacted, but an appointment was not made due to the diagnostic fees. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. The contact researched the failure online and found many other complaints. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
My engine seized up 4 times over the last month temporarily causing it to stall. Last week, it started knocking and the dealer tells me I need a new/used engine. The engine only had 140,000 miles on it and has been services every 3000 miles for the most part. I think it should be included in the engine recall 17v224000.
The contact owns a 2012 kia Sorento. The contact stated that on several occasions while at a stop light, the vehicle had suddenly stalled and also while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would suddenly loose power causing the speed to decelerate. The vehicle was taken to roseville kia in roseville, California to be diagnosed but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 128,000.

The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no solution. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.
Last year my car stalled and had to be towed to the kia dealership and we were told it was the alternater (which was replaced at this time) my car since then has had off and on times where it would start to stall but not shut off and it has become more frequent over the past few weeks. There is a recall from kia coming out in mid may for this problem which has caused serveral accidents in other cars, and we have been told by the dealership and customer relations that I would have to wait for the recall to come out before anything can be done since they cannot find where it is coming from while it has been in there possession multiple times and the knocking that can be barely heard is "within reason". I was also told by the kia customer relations that if my engine died before the recall then they would replaced it. I told them my main concern is I have four children that I drive around with and don't want to get into an accident due to my engine dying while driving and they told me to take it to another dealer to have them check it out, which I will but I am putting this in in the mean time.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 mph the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The engine was replaced was replaced at 50,000 miles. The contact stated that at 60,000 miles the vehicle started to experience failures with overheating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced for a second time. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received a loaner vehicle from the dealer while waiting on the new engine. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000. Ah.

The vehicle was diagnosed, but there was no failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.
The contact owns a 2012 kia Sorento. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle restarted, but the failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the throttle engine sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer for unknown repairs; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 63,381.
The first incident occurred at a traffic light. I went to accelerate and realized that the car had shut itself off. I put it in park, and restarted it without incident. When I brought it into the dealership, they said there was nothing they could do and that I should bring it in as soon as it happens next time. The second time, March 28, 2015, I was trying to pull into a parking spot when I was unable to turn the wheel. Again, I realized that the car had stalled, so I put it into park, and restarted it. While there was no harm done, my main concern is that something like this will happen while driving at a higher speed, and cause an accident. I have seen this same occurrence in other reviews and wonder why this is not more of a concern for the manufacturers. What will it take for a recall?.
My 2012 kia sorrento completely stalled in a parking lot. I had just gotten off the highway(speeds of 55-60) pulled into my jobs parking lot and all the lights electronics stayed on but the brakes locked up, the steering wheel locked up and the car would not drive. Put the car in park after a few minutes and it turned on fine. Now its at the dealer and they can not duplicate the problem and the car is driving fine. They claim no codes on diagnostics and see nothing wrong with the car after test driving it. There were no repairs done on the car because nothing could be found. This is a major issue and a worrysome one. Lets get on kia about this to solve the issue.
While driving home from work traffic was heavy and for no reason my car just stalled I managed to coast to the shoulder put it in park and restart it .
The contact owns a 2012 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to safely pull over and restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer but was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.
We have had two incidents where the engine just stops. The first time was last summer, and the second this past weekend. It stalled while my wife was making a right turn onto a street. She is thankful that the traffic was light. The thought of stalling while making a left turn in front of traffic or while on the freeway could cause a serious accident.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 kia Sorento. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled three times without warning. The dealer inspected the vehicle all three times but was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer sent a technician to further inspect the vehicle but to no avail.
