While driving my car down the freeway going 77mph my car failed to shift while going up a hill and started making a knocking noise while in cruise control. Then out of cruise control the car made a loud bag and pop and smoked. We pulled over and the car motor had then been seized and would not start. Kia motor is declining to replace my motor based on the product improvement campaign of 18v907000 because they state that I failed to have the car inspected with this campaign. Kia motors told me that they sent the product improvement campaign notice to the previous owner in 2018 but that it was still my fault that the inspection was not done and the knock sensor wasn't added. I let them know I knew nothing about this because I never received the letter because it was not sent to me and I was not notified and the consumer affairs supervisor said it was still my fault for not calling kia when I purchased the car in 2015 to let them know I am the new owner and to give them my information.

My engine died while passing a vehicle on my way to work. No warning light, no knocking sounds, nothing. It just died. Had to get in front of vehicle I was passing and coast to the side of the road. Would not restart. Sat in the cold for 3 hours without heat on a desolate road with no cell service. No town within walking distance. My mechanic said the motor is locked up and I'll need a replacement. 103,825 miles on it. Warranty ran out at 100,000 miles. Apparently this is common in these vehicles and kia is involved in a class action suit for this and other malfunctions. Called kia and they were not helpful at all. I'm a nurse carrying for covid patients and have no vehicle to get to work. I still owe $13,000+. I bought it in 2018.
I was driving and suddenly heard a knocking noise under the hood and then all of the lights came on and it broke down and I had to pull over on the side of the road then it started smoking and then it caught fire. This all happened within 20 minutes on 12/10/2020. It was in cobb county GA off of ew connector and in between fontaine rd and floyd rd.

Took my car to the mechanic for a second opinion regarding low beam lights shutting off when I turn on the high beams. This occurred frequently when using high beams. Also, my headlights (low beams) consistently burnt out. Had to install 2-3 new bulbs in each headlight (within 1 yr. ). Mechanic said problem is more than just the lights, the knock sensor was bad and needed more work than what they were willing to do and recommended me going back to kia. Driving home from my mechanic, I was on the surface streets to get on the freeway, a knocking noise occurred when accelerating, sounded like it was going to throw a rod, which led me to check the oil. My oil changes are completed on schedule and was not due for another oil change for 3,000 miles. The oil was bone dry. I put in 4 quarts of oil and drove on surface streets, back to my mechanic. Mechanic said it is about to throw a rod and that I needed to drive it slowly and get it to kia. As I drove the car home on the freeway, I was in the number one lane, passing a semi-truck in the number two lane, car started shaking, all the lights started blinking, the orange steering wheel warning light went on and the entire car completely shut down. I had to coast to the shoulder on the freeway. I had no hazards or blinkers. Tow truck arrived and checked my oil, he said there were metal shavings and barely any oil. Towed the car back to the mechanic and they said I needed a new engine. Had the car towed to my home and it now sits in my driveway. Prior and during all of this, not one time did any warning lights on the dashboard go on (other than the one steering wheel light when the car shut down).
On December 2, 2020 my kia Sorento started making a knocking noise. No engine warning lights came on. I went to go head home from work on the interstate and I heard a clank while I was driving my brakes locked in traffic then all the lights on my dash came on and my engine shut off in the middle of traffic. My car would not turn back on and I had to call my insurance company geico to have my car towed home. Very scary and very dangerous. It still doesn't not turn on whatso ever. I have videos but not in the right format to open.
Car started making knocking noise with loss of power while driving on 45mph road. Checked oil, no oil. No warning lights came in dash prior or currently indicating loss of oil pressure of check engine light.

I was driving on the highway going from arizona to utah, suddenly I hear a loud knocking noise coming from the engine. The car starts losing power and then completely seized up, luckily we were able to pull over. We turned off the car and tried to turn it on again but it wasn't turning on.
I was driving and heard a knocking sound. I came to a stop sign and the car stalled. It restarted but had no power. I turned and tried to go a little further had no power. I managed to get the car off road and into the bypass lane. Car would not start again. I had to call for tow truck.
Tl- the contact owns a 2013 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the contact heard an abnormal, knocking sound emit from the engine without warning. Due to the failure, the contact initially had the vehicle towed to their home and an independent mechanic came to inspect the vehicle. Upon inspection, the mechanic recommended that the vehicle be serviced at a kia dealer; therefore the vehicle was towed to stokes kia( 202 s goose creek blvd, goose creek, SC 29445). The dealer diagnosed the vehicle with engine failure. The manufacturer was notified and they agreed that they would pay for the parts and that the contact paid for the labor. Upon investigation, the contact then discovered NHTSA campaign number: 20v750000(engine) which she linked to her failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 108,000. Jo.

My 2014 kia sorrento started to make knocking sound and I took it to the dealer to check out. Check engine light did not come on or any other warning signs. After checking service department said that the engine needs to be replaced and it sounds like there are metal pieces in the engine. They also said that kia sorrento 4 cylinder had the same problem and it was recalled but not the 6 cylinder. They also advised me not to drive too long because the engine may stall. They quote me $7000 to replace the engine or suggested to trade in for a different car. I brought the car home and towed it to a local mechanic and they said the same thing and asked me to call kia USA and file a complaint. They said that there are lot of TSB's on this 2014 kia sorrento. According to kia dealership notes they say "connecting rod failure".
While driving a knocking sound occurred and the engine temperature began to rise. Eventually the SUV begins to stall and starts to lose power. Once stopped (pulled over safely) I noticed that the coolant is overflowing and gushes out along the side of the hood. When adding more coolant, it continues to overflow once driving and the engine temp rises again and begins to stall. Seems to not be able to hold coolant.
Engine started making a knocking noise upon acceleration and at initial startup. Engine has only 53,000 miles on it. I drove the vehicle home, parked it and immediately made an appointment with the local dealer to diagnose the problem. I was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer (less than 5 miles). After much runaround and little explanation, kia is telling me that the engine needs replaced due to sludge (something I have verified with independent mechanics is very unlikely with a 5 year old vehicle and reasonably low mileage). The oil at time of drop off was verified to be clean and full per the kia technician. I provided kia with records per the warranty agreement and they are denying my claim for replacement. Every excuse for denial has included additional terms not outlined in the written warranty agreement (receipts that include minute details or the excuse that 'dates don't match' when I haven't provided any dates nor is any required service based on time (only mileage)). The vehicle is still under the bumper to bumper warranty (5 years/60,000 mile) and powertrain warranty (10 years/100,000 mile). Many other vehicles of the same year have had similar issues, yet kia is refusing to acknowledge the problem or expand previous recalls for the same model and issue.
January 10, 2020 had the recalls on my car checked. Nothing was wrong. While driving home February 28, 2020, my car started to make a horrible knocking noise. I was only about 2 miles from home. Pulled in and turned car off. Contact kia was told to bring car in the next morning that there was a lifetime warranty on the motor. Start the car and drive 2 miles, the check engine like started blinking, oil pressure light came on, car died and never has started back. Asked the kia dealer if they were able to provide me with a loaner car and was told no. First I was out a $300 towing bill because they never ever checked out the engine recall, and now I am out another $300 on a rental.
My car stalled going around 65-70 mph on the highway, and power steering and acceleration completely ceased. After pulling over I waited a minute and tried to start it again and my engine has a very loud knocking sound coming from it, and it drives extremely rough. I never had any warning signs prior to this, and now my check engine light has been blinking. I have always kept up with the maintenance and oil changes on my vehicle, and now it is throwing a "p1326" code. I had it towed to my house to prevent further damage or possible accident!.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 kia Sorento. While driving 30 mph there was an abnormal knocking noise detected and vehicle loss power and stalled. The contact shifted the gearshift-er into neutral. There were no warning lights illuminated, the vehicle was towed to rick case kia 3190 satellite blvd, duluth, GA 30096(678) 321-1590 where diagnosed cylinder three failed. But was not repaired. The contact contacted the warranty company. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 108,000. Ap.
I have had my Sorento for a little over a year. In February my engine started making a knocking noise. I took it to a dealership and I was told I needed the engine replaced for 8000. After reviewing I seen that this is a common problem and there are recalls for alot of their engines. Since I purchased my car used, there is no warranty and they refuse to fix it even though it is a common problem with their vehicles. I was told my engine had sludge even though I had my oil changed in November and my car is still under 79000 miles.
Car has an engine knocking sound from a bad rod. The engine needs to be replaced but is out of warranty. The repair will cost more than the vehicle is worth.
The issue is the engine it's burning the oil and one of the recall that this vehicle has been a knocking sound in the engine and thats the problem that I'm having. The problem occurred in the road when I smelled the burning oil. Now my mechanics says that I have to replace a engine that only is 6 yrs old.
Engine light came on along with oil filter light only weeks after oil change and knocking sound became clear in my engine area. Vehicle has also shut off in the middle of driving.
I already filed a claim the other day, but now my 2013 Sorento has gotten even worse! my car stalled on the highway going around 65-70 mph, and power steering and acceleration completely ceased. After getting home and calling to report this, I took it for a test drive, and my engine has a very loud knocking sound coming from it, and it drives extremely rough. I never had any warning signs prior to this, and now my check engine light has been blinking. I have always kept up with the maintenance and oil changes on my vehicle, and now it is throwing a "p1326" code. It stalled twice prior to this while driving. I don't understand how my engine wasn't recalled prior to this when there was an engine recall on my exact year and model for rod bearing wear! this is my only form of transportation, and kia is aware of these problems but just keeps throwing bandaids on the actual problem! when is this going to end? engines are catching on fire, people (including myself) are stalling at high speeds on the road due to their faulty craftsmanship! I want answers!! how many people will have to die before they do something about this? I either want a recall on my engine, or I want a warranty to cover the problem they are already aware of! I refuse to put mine or my daughter's life in jeopardy because kia does not want to own up to their problem! there are thousands of complaints, when will this end?! I'm still paying on a car I can't even drive due to manufacturer error!! this is ridiculous! I will never own another kia due to their safety violations, and I can't wait until I can get rid of this car and not have to worry about our safety any longer. I want something done now! I will not stop until something is done about this.
The engine problems I started experiencing 1. Car hesitates when accelerating, 2. Knocking noise from engine, lack of power low oil pressure, when I put oil in the car, seems like the next days its low again,(empty)I spent many dollars on oil, I had the oil changed every 3 months sometimes at (kia) because I get free oil change, and most at jiffy lube, here lately, the oil seems to be burning more, check engine light is flashing off and on , the car is unsafe to drive. The car is in my garage. 3. The back brakes went out , suddenly, coat me 500. 00 dollars. Unacceptable the brakes completely , went out. There was a problem with the back brakes I was told by the kia dealer at evergreen chicago, 4. Low mileage, charcoal canister fell off, the brackets broke off, but we tied it back up, getting low mileage, I am upset because I am paying for this car, monthly, and now I am experiencing these problem ,unacceptable these cars has had engine recalls. Fuel recalls etc. The charcoal canister fell off , first I had it wrap up, the car was still running . The problem with the engine started Nov - Dec -2019.
I brought my vehicle to the dealership Dec 09 2019 (mileage 56176) as instructed by service tech in order for them to check reason this vehicle is using a lot of oil in between oil changes. Service tech checked oil and found oil was down 1. 25 qts. Service tech opened tech line case and sent pictures to kia. I was instructed to return to dealership to recheck oil level in 1000 miles. Today, Dec. 30 2019, (mileage 57231) I returned to dealership. Oil was down 1 qt. After 1055 miles. If you do the math, engine only holds 5. 5 quarts of oil, if I go the entire 7500 miles in between oil change(as per owner manual) I would be out of oil. Service tech added 1 qt. Oil and put in a sealed dipstick so I cannot check oil level. How am I to know oil level? I park vehicle in my garage. When I questioned tech about this he said it was on kia's liability if something were to happen. I would know when the engine is out of oil, the engine will start knocking, and he made the knocking sound on the counter. That is really helping my husband and I comfort level, if someone gets hurt or killed, what does it matter? there are other people on the roads that could be injured or killed if something happens to my vehicle. My vehicle could catch on fire, cause injuries or death to us and / or others. Service tech would not say what kia is doing about this matter when I asked him. He just said kia is looking into it. He gave my husband and I the impression he knows what is going on, he said he was not at liberty to discuss any further. The service tech also stated that it is up to the owners to check their own oil levels. Now I cannot check the oil level, it has a sealed dipstick. He is contradicting himself, make no sense.
My 2012 kia Sorento lx has 144,566 miles on it and has been maintained regularly since I purchased it in July 2018. In October 2019, my vehicle was in motion going roughly 40 mph when the vehicle suddenly lost power. The engine began knocking and the steering wheel locked up. Upon coasting the vehicle into a nearby parking lot and attempting to start it, the vehicle began making an intense knocking noise coming from the engine. The vehicle had trouble maintaining power and continuously cut off, even after putting in a new battery and alternator. Upon checking the vehicle to see if it would throw any codes, it threw a "misfire in cylinder 2" code. Upon having the car inspected, I was told that it will need a new rod in the engine. This car has under 150,000 miles and has been maintained meticulously, but randomly threw a rod as I was driving down the road. After doing further research, it became apparent that 2012-2018 kia Sorentos have been recalled for this exact problem; my 2012 Sorento, however, is not covered under the recall according to a VIN check.
My wife and I were on the 91 freeway in light traffic and came to the end of the freeway which becomes artesia blvd in gardena, CA. We were sitting at the light at the end of the freeway and we heard this really loud knocking noise so I shut the engine off. I restarted the engine and it was ok for several minutes then all of a sudden we heard this really loud noise like the engine was being opened with a can opener and this was while in motion on surface streets going about 45 miles an hour. (that's what we thought to best describe the noise). When you press the accelerator it becomes much worse and the car shakes so we parked it and towed home due to the time. I have yet to have it towed to the dealer due to it being late and the weekend. But a friend of mine who's a mechanic said it's definitely the engine and he's leaning towards the barrings and pistons somewhere along those lines. I have kept regular maintenance on it since we got it like changing of fluids, oil things like that since we purchased it on 04/17/2019. We have had other minor things like the locks on the driver side door you have to do manually and the rear hatch doesn't lock and you can open it even with the alarm on, suspension system is a little loose and probably has issues also. Transmission is slipping also. There's all of the same year same model same engine that are on the recall list but from what we're gathering ours isn't. I am not quite understanding this because we're positive this is the same issue as the other ones recalled.
Upon initiating and attempting to accelerate from a stopped position when a light turned green all the dash lights went berserk, there was a loud pop, followed by smoke coming from the hood of the car. The car died and was able to be restarted for a single small acceleration to the shoulder. Thick smoke then engulfed then engulfed the hood and continued for 15 mins. Upon being towed, the mechanics confirmed all fluid levels were normal however the engine is fully seized, unable to be cranked by hand. The vehicle was purchased as certified pre-owned. In fact, the dealership owner's neighbor had previously owned the vehicle and it was exceptionally maintained. Under my ownership all regularly scheduled maintenance visits have been made and the oil changed approximately every 5,00 miles. In April 2018 a knocking sound was present and the check engine light came on resulting in the dealership replacing the cvt control valve, valve-oil control, cvvt, gasket outlet and rocker covers, o-ring, bolt flanges, and more. All of which relate to the known (though undisclosed to me) issues with the gdi engines. The vehicle is currently unusable with a seized engine.
2012 kia serento 2/25/2017& kia had a "anti-corrosion"recall and we had it serviced at mike smith kia in paducah,ky-4/14/17,we will call this document1. Then we we received major engine recall in September 20,2017 about 2012 kia serento's stalling, document 2. We took the vehicle to wyatt johnson kia of TN. October 7,2017 & we were told if it did not pass their tests they would replace the engine. Ok,well they said it passed, and changed the oil,&supposedly put an "mil" sensor and"mil" dash light to detect oncoming engine failure and send the car into what they call a 'limp" mode. Which is not documented on document #3 which to our surprise it passed because it had been making an knocking sound and experiencing some attempt's of the vehicle stalling. Yes after the oil change ran some what smoother, but still every now and then we would get an occasional throttle spike,or an attempt to stall. Got an recall to do a logicupgrade,& took it immediately to wyatt j. Kia Dec. 12,2018,diagn. Did not detect code from knok sensor but cautioned,on perform fuel injection/throttle body service for $199. 95 documents #4&5 the we hear about this fuel pump and fuel line recall in michigan on 68,000 vehicles in our year, make and model, which raised a red flag to why our vehicle was continuing to throttle spike's and more apparent attempts to stall. However no recall on our's?have gotten 2 more recall's since on our vehicle, one headlamp low beam connector warranty extension,&two air bag clock spring, called kia to schedule an appoint. For replacement and asked about the fuel pump issue and it possibly being the reason for the throttle spikes & stall attempts all this time, but no recall for our vehicle, and want to charge$120+$199. For diag. And throttle body/fuel injection, but free replacement of air bag spring ass. ?have to keep oil changed, because start's to run really rough. This is getting old!.
Engine has knocking sound. Gets worse with a/c on seems and when put in reverse. Mornings the loudest. Gets louder on and off. I recently bought the vehicle.
The engine of my 2013 kia Sorento, with less than 58k miles, seized and shut off completely, causing the steering wheel to lock when I was driving on a busy suburban street. Thankfully, I was able to coast to the side of the road, where I was able to restart the engine and drive home, noting a knocking noise in the engine the whole way. The car remained in our garage for the next couple weeks while we were on vacation. Once home, I drove the car (knocking all the way) to firestone where they diagnosed the issue as a probable bottom end engine connecting rod failure, noting they had seen at least five or more kia Sorentos with the same problem, then proceeded to pull up the NHTSA recall for 2011-2013 Sorentos with engine failure relating to bottom end connecting rods. The car had barely made it to firestone (where the engine died completely) and had to be towed to the jim sipala kia dealership in west chester, PA, where the car had been purchased, used, in 2014, with about 16,000 miles. Sipala kia diagnosed what firestone had suspected but refused to do anything b/c the VIN # of my car did not match those in the recall, even though it was the exact same issue, which they did not deny. The issue my car has falls under the NHTSA safety recall #17v224000, recall date 3/31/17, wherein the consequence of this issue is noted as bearing wear may result in the engine seizing, increasing the risk of a crash. , which is exactly what happened to me.
Kia engine recall. 2014 kia Sorento has the 3. 3 v6 lambda ii engine. Driving car on freeway and suddenly loud knocking noises coming from engine that became louder with acceleration - making car undriveable. Had vehicle towed to dealership, it is currently still there - diagnosis so far is metal shavings in oil pan, engine failure. This is the same issue described in the the kia recall with the theta ii engines. Called kia and all they said was they would only open a case number. So far they have not included this engine in the recall. Searching online, there are others with the 3. 3 lambda ii engine experiencing this issue. This engine needs to be included in the recall, it is a severe safety issue.
