On thanksgiving day, the vehicle loss power while driving on the highway to anniston alabama, endangering the lives of myself and my four children. No warning lights. I was giving it gas and it would not go. I was able to get some good samaritans to push it off the road into an empty parking lot. It would not restart, it started smoking, would not take a jump start. Left it over night, came back the next day, had to jump start it but it was now making a ticking noise. Still no warning lights ever came on the day of the incident or after. Had it towed to a repair shop and was told the engine needed replacement. Had it towed back to georgia, had another mechanic look at it and was told it was the engine also. Finally had it towed to kia moters in athens GA, and was unable to get recalls fixed because the engine is bad and was told it's not part of the recall. The car is available to be inspected. Had no warning of failing engine prior to this.

I was driving going about 45 to 48 mph on a main road with traffice flowing faster than me and my car just shut off. The dash board lights all lid up. It was a scary moment for me as when I noticed and tried to break a little the brakes were locked and I couldn't break. I had to let the car roll until it came to complete stop. When it came to complete stop I turned the key and then I tried to restart the car and it would not restart it just did a clicking noise. The engine sounded horrible as it smelled burning and grinding metal pieces were heard. I have taken my car several times to the kia dealership becuase my engine light would turn on and off or sometimes just flash and wouldn't come back on. All kia said that it was the map sensor that needed to be replaced that was June 18, 2019, and now my car just won't start.

My engine needs worked on as of 02/2021, there's some ticking noise coming from my engine even though I keep the oil changed like the car requires every 3-5 months since I have high mileage. I made this request to check for recalls on my vehicle(make model & year) I bought the car February 2019. My left parking light stopped working almost a year ago so I think it could be electrical.

My significant other was driving my car and felt it needed oil due to how it was sounding while driving it. He checked my oil and my car was completely out of oil. No oil warning light went on. He added oil and shortly after the engine began making a ticking noise when he excelerated. He was driving home, approximately 10 miles, and the engine light came on while driving it, lost horse power while driving. I have 100160+ miles on my car, just had an oil change at local kia dealership 3000 miles ago. Always kept up on maintenance oil changes.
One day heard upper motor tapping sound. Assumed low in oil. We have had regular oil changes and were do for another shortly. We have never had to add fluids. Drove the car around the block to get oil warm. Checked oil . Found engine completely out if oil!! car does not leak. No engine indicator light came on. The vehicle has no problem telling me it needs air!! but a catastrophic engine failure that it doesn't indicate!! filled engine to manufactured specs. Engine has no power!! top of engine tapping bottom of engine knocking. Just finished paying for car with only 90k miles.

I was driving straight down a 2 lane highway at approx. 55 mph and the engine abruptly shut off. However, all electrical components still worked, including the a/c, lights, and the navigation screen. I didn't even have time to think about what I needed to do, but I was able to pull into someone's driveway, as there was no shoulder on the highway that I could pull over onto. After pulling off of the highway, I placed the vehicle in park and I turned it off. I tried to restart the vehicle and every light on the dash was illuminated, but it would not start . None of the electrical components worked now after shutting the car off. Heard a clicking sound when brakes were applied. I checked oil on dip stick and oil was fine. The vehicle had over a quarter tank of gas. No lights appeared on dash before it abruptly died. Called tow truck to come get it and take it to repair shop. Mechanic says it is showing the problem could be in the main brain of the vehicle, and I will have to have it towed to nearest kia dealer which is 2 hours away. I just purchased this vehicle approx. 3 months ago with roughly 75k miles on it. I am the second owner with no prior accidents. I am greatly concerned about this issue with my 2014 kia Sorento sxl, due to the fact that it could have caused an accident and someone could have been seriously injured due to the engine just abruptly dying. This needs to be recalled ASAP!.
Was driving car straight down city street when it suddenly lost power and engine shut off. Was able to restart and it kept doing same thing and made a clicking noise from engine. Took it to shop and battery and alternator fine, they are telling me that engine is seizing up.
2014 kia Sorento just quit working. Me and the family were driving down the interstate going 70mph and the car started making a loud ticking noise then just lost power and shut off. Luckily I was able to pull off the interstate safely.
My Sorento has less than 65,000 miles on it & is kept well maintained. I was driving on the turnpike (60mph) and heard a clicking sound and could no longer accelerate. I pulled over and the oil, check engine, and another light game on and I could not restart my car. I had to get towed off the very busy highway. The shop said my motor had completely failed and I would need a new one with a quote around $6,000 after installation fees. A well maintained 2015 car should not be experiencing this issue. It is very disheartening for a complete engine failure on a car that is not even 4 years old with less than 65,000 miles.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph loud popping noise occurred when the engine suddenly stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer suntrup kia(6263 s. Lindbergh blvd, st. Louis mo) who indicated that the engine had seized. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 66000. Jft.
Bought my kia Sorento about a year and a half ago. It had about 64,000 miles on it. It now has 87,000. We noticed heavy oil consumption within a few months of owning it. No oil leaks exist. At first it would need about a quart or so between oil changes, but continued to get worse because now we need almost 3 between oil changes. Oil light began flickering on and off intermittently on the highway heading home followed shortly after by a check engine light. I stopped and checked the stick to find that it's essentially dry. I buy the recommended oil at the gas station I'm at and add it. Just before finally arriving home the engine back to sputter and lose power accompanied by a tapping noise. Another crappy kia engine that didn't even make it to 100,000. They better fix this.
Driving to work this morning and my 2013 kia Sorento stalled. Pulled to the side of the road and was able to restart the vehicle. Engine began a clanking noise. Had vehicle towed to my mechanic and they haven't reported back yet. Recall notice was never sent to me. Nhtsa recall number: 7v224 recall date: March 31, 2017 manufacturer recall number: sc147.
Tl- the contact owned a 2016 kia Sorento. The contact stated that a loud popping noise occurred. The vehicle started to smoke and the temperature gauge overheated. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated as she was costing over to the side of the road the vehicle started to decelerate and flame was coming from under the vehicle. The fire department extinguished the flame and file a report. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for a diagnostic testing. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Aw.

Loud knockin/ticking noise when the vehicle is on. Backup camera malfunction, loose grip on the steering & at times, wheel does not turn on its own after turning. Oil is dirty & smells like gasoline. Purchased vehicle on 10/28 with about 70k miles. Here at the dealership to address these issues.
It started making a knocking and loud tapping noise when I was driving down a city streed. It kept getting louder and worse when I tried to accelerate.
Tl- the contact owns a 2017 kia Sorento. The contact stated that there was ticking noise from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the greenway kia west palm beach dealer located at 735 s military trl, west palm beach, FL 33415, where the engine was replaced. About six months later, the vehicle stalled and lost power and was taken back to the dealer. The dealer replaced the wire harness. The failure recurred and the same dealer replaced the knock sensor. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer who kept the vehicle for a couples of weeks and was unable to repair the failure. The better business bureau told the contact that as a second owner, the vehicle did not qualify for a lemon law protection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and filed a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000. Fe.

I've had my oil changes on time. Theyre free at my dealership so im there like clockwork. I drove to work just fine but when it was time to go home I noticed my engine was making a ticking noise. I turned the car off and back on to make sure and it was ticking. Now my check engine light comes on. As im driving out the parking garage I noticed a load knocking sound. I checked my car and it read a p0014 code which is an advanced camshaft. After dropping it off at the dealer they told me I may need a new engine. I spoke to someone at kia who said that there was a recall on 2013 kia sorrentos but mine wasnt under the recall because it was made at a different location. Although my car had similar issues kia would not help! since I just bought the car and im not the primary owner im stuck with either a high repair bill or carrying over a bunch of negative equity into a new car deal. Kia is known for their faulty engines and I just wish I knew this before buying one!.
While driving at highway speed on a 2 lane highway and going up a medium incline, a ticking noise progressively got louder over the course of about 45 seconds to a minute until there was total loss of power, almost causing a collision from a vehicle behind me. No warning lights appeared on the dash as this was happening and engine temperature was normal. Luckily there was enough shoulder and had enough momentum to pull off to the side of the road. I was unable to restart the vehicle and had to have it towed. The vehicle fell under a safety recall which was reported to have been completed October 13, 2017. I am the original owner of the vehicle.
I previously had no issues with my vehicle, besides an airbag light that repeatedly turned on for no reason. I followed recommended scheduled maintenance and had recently had an oil change and full diagnostic. A week ago, while driving, my engine suddenly began sputtering then died. I pulled over, looked under the hood, and found nothing visibly amiss. Then I got back into the car and it started back up. Then after driving a short distance there was a clicking sound in the engine and my engine light had come on. I drove another 20 minutes, parked the vehicle over night and started it up the next morning. Although it continued to click the engine light was no longer on. After driving about 30 minutes the clicking grew more insistent than there was a loud "snap" noise and my engine died. I towed the car to my repair shop, the kia dealership in waipahu, and they informed me that the engine had seized and was irreparable. They could not diagnose exactly what was wrong but they assured me that regardless of my diligent maintenance the vehicle was beyond reasonable repair.
The engine has a clicking sound all the time sounds luke its grinding metal.
Tl-the contact owns a 2015 kia Sorento. The contact bought the vehicle six months ago. Ever since they had the vehicle an abnormal tapping sound comes from the engine when started. The steering wheel makes a loud popping noise that causes a vibration in the steering wheel. Whenever they start the vehicle up this noise comes out. The check engine light did illuminate. The vehicle was not towed. The vehicle was taken to friendly kia 5819 us-19, new port richey, FL 34652 where no assistance was provided. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. They staff stated that they were to busy to assist. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue and they told the contact to call NHTSA. The failure mileage was 90,600. Jw.
Tl- the contact owns a 2015 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph a loud popping sound came from the engine area and the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer city kia of orlando(9550 s. Orange blossom trl. Orlando, FL. ) who diagnosed that the engine had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 100,000. Jft.
Our family was driving on the interstate and the vehicle started making a low clicking noise. We got off on the next exit and the car just turned off. No signals or lights turned on. After inspection from the dealership it was discovered that the engine rod bearing had blown out and made a hole on the engine. The vehicle only had approximately 72k miles on it. How does this happen. Recalls for other kia Sorento have been issued but not my 2013 kia. For this reason the engine and parts was not covered by warranty. Engine was backordered from November and came in at the end of March.
I have a 2014 kia Sorento sxl 3. 3 ltr v6 with 119, 952 miles on it. On 11/26/2018 after pulling in the drive way and existing the car I smelled what I believed to be an antifreeze smell. My car did not have any warning indicators on and my temperture gauge was normal. I took my car to dobbs on 11/27/2018, paid $30. 95 and told it was leaking head gaskets which cost $4500-$5000 to repair. I decided to call kia consumer affairs and had my car towed to a kia dealership for diagnostics and they decided I needed a motor, the cost would be $7600. I then called consumer affairs back and was told by the agent she would submit a request for a goodwill repair. Kia agreed to replace my motor as the technician diagnosed, but I am responsible for labor at $140/hour for 21. 4 hours. I really appreciate kia replacing the motor, obviously due to some type of defect. Wondering if there will soon be a recall on it. I've had 2 steering columns installed, alternator, lower oil pan and still a popping noise. I was told on the 4th time of complaining to dealer services, they tighten an axle nut. Well the nut must be loose again because the popping is back. Could this be a problem with the axle which has been recalled on other models?should my motor also have been a part of the motors most recently recalled. Could my strut have started leaking due to an adequate amount of corrosion substance not being applied ? I replacind my struts, rotors, breaks and 4 new tires. I love my car, this is my second kia. I am greatful, but a little disappointed about paying $3000. My 2 month old daughter passed away in her sleep on March 15. 2017 and left me with the stress of losing her, funeral cost and now this. I am a single mother; therefore money is tight. Cars similar to mine have caught on fire due to faulty motors and that is really a scary thought.
Recall : it isn't on recall list but having the same problems the other recalls for same vehicle and year. Was driving and engine stalled on the loop, I was almost hit by multiple cars. I finally got the kia to start and it began to make loud tapping noise and not letting rpms reach 3k. Nobody seems to want to help since the car only has 87k miles and now the engine is failing for no reason. I believe if the engine is doing the same thing as the other recalls, why haven't there been a recall on this kia. ?? I've tried calling dealers and etc nobody is helping me.
The contact owns a 2012 kia Sorento. While the vehicle was idling at a red light, it stalled and could not be restarted. When the contact attempted to restart the engine, it made a ticking sound, but did not restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that there was no oil in the vehicle even though the oil was changed recently. There was no warning indicator illuminated regarding an oil shortage. The mechanic also stated that there were no engine leaks; however, the engine needed to be replaced. The contact went back to the shop that performed the recent oil change, but they had incomplete records of the oil change, even with the contact having a receipt. The dealer (grieco kia of delray beach, 2255 s federal hwy, delray beach, FL 33483, (866) 858-7513) was contacted and stated that there was an unknown engine recall. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 117,000.
~the vehicle was guided into a gas station. The vehicle was able to restart after a couple of hours with a cable jump start. The engine made clicking noises but was able to be driven home. The next day the vehicle started off fine but the engine shut off again with the lights on the dashboard illuminating. The vehicle started clicking but was able to be driven home at only 10 mph. The contact called the dealer viva kia bassett place, 5800 montana Ave, el paso, TX 79925 (915) 834-2300 who stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer was called but the contact was not able to speak with their customer service department. The failure mileage was 77,500. Tf ## VIN passed ## kia sorrento 2012 ##.
I was traveling down a route 30 in greensburg, PA at approximately 45 mph. There was a slight clicking noise and then silence. No noise. The engine light came on. The gas pedal would not work. The power steering would not work. I was able to coast into the mall parking lot. I had my vehicle towed to allwine curry auto sevice, a local garage, for evaluation. I was told that the engine was shot and that a used one could be installed for $3500. We purchased our vehicle used from smail kia in may 2017. We have our oil changed every 6000 miles. We have not had a oil light come on or any warning that there is a problem.
I was driving home from work and noticed my Sorento was making a loud ticking sound and was struggling to change gears. I pulled over and immediately as I put my car in park, my check engine light flashed and car turned off. I had the car towed to a mechanic who confirmed the engine had seized. This description falls right in line with the engine recalls on 2012 Sorento's, but kia says my VIN is not part of the recall. The car has been well maintained and only has 80,989 miles on it. My mechanic reached out to kia to explain to them that the engine was in very good condition and should not have seized, and believed it was a faulty engine and they hung up on him.
Vehicle displays no warning lights. Vehicle suddenly cut off in the middle of a busy road at an intersection, and upon trying to re-crank, it makes a loud knocking and clanking noise. Could only semi-operate car in neutral. Car will only cut on for about 5-10 seconds at a time. There was an open recall on this year and model vehicle, for this very same issue, but according to my VIN, my vehicle does not qualify for the recall although others do. It sounds like the rods are knocking to a highly extreme level.
Driving on a 4 lane highway my 2015 kia Sorento died without warning and made a clicking noise when I tried to start it. I had the car towed to a local kia dealership who advised metal shavings were found in the oil, which clogged the oil filter, restricting oil flow thus causing the connecting rod bearings to break. They confirmed there was no sludge found in the engine. The car needs the engine replaced and my extended warranty is refusing to pay citing there was not sufficient oil lubrication due to low oil which caused the connecting rod bearings to break. However, the dealership advised both myself, warranty, and adjuster the car was burning oil as no external engine leaks were found. All oil changes were completed by the kia dealership whom I purchased the car from and records were provided. At no point did any warning lights illuminate on the dashboard to indicate low oil or to check engine. My 2015 kia Sorento has the gdi (or theta ii) engine which is named in multiple class action lawsuits for the same thing. I still owe on this car as I have only had for 1. 5 years and am now looking at $5,000-$7,000 in repairs.
"takata recall" I purchase my 2014 kia Sorento from a used dealer with 85,052 miles on it. In July I started hearing some loud popping noise so, I contacted my vehicle service contract and was advise that it needed to go to a shop, upon going to the shop it was diagnosis and I was told it had a sec147 engine recall dues to this issue back in September of 2017 this same vehicle had an sec147 engine recall also along with rear wheel speed sensor inside the hubs.
After driving about 6 miles to a local store nearby and back home as I pulled my car into my parking spot black smoke started coming from the hood so I turned the car off waited until the smoke stopped and looked under the hood to see if I could tell what was smoking. Everything appeared fine and I made sure to check all of my fluid levels and oil which were all full. Later that day maybe 4 hours later I drove about 15 miles to my sisters house and again as I was parking my car the black smoke started again from under the hood. I proceeded to turn the car off and look under the hood again after the smoke cleared. Less than 5 minutes later the was a loud popping noise from under the hood and by the time I ran outside to see the entire front part of my car was engulfed in flames however the windows were up so the flames were contained inside the car and under the hood. The fire department came minutes later and put the fire out and I had to have the car towed due to the front tires melting from the fire. I had it towed back to the dealership where I'd purchased it only 5 months before and let them and financing company know. No one could explain why my car spontaneously combusted like a bomb while parked and turned off. I'm reporting this incident because I do not believe it was a freak accident I believe these vehicles should definitely be investigated before someone loses their life.
