The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, a ticking noise emerging from the engine compartment started and every time the gas pedal was depressed, it worsen. The vehicle was towed to the dealer bob sight independence kia 1700 s noland road, independence, mo 64055, the diagnosis was " engine failure " and needed replacement. Vehicle was under light load travelling approximately 55 mph on level ground on a state route and suffered catastrophic engine failure. It had a load banging/clacking sound and screeching then seized up bringing vehicle to a stop before I could safely pull off the roadway. Mileage at the time was approximately 100,700. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, and service determined the engine repairable and in need of complete replacement. Warranty coverage has been denied. Cost to replace the engine are $5000 for a used engine to over $6000 for a rebuilt/re manufactured replacement.

On my drive home from the city, vehicle started making a ticking sound. 10 minutes after it started my car was shaking and trugging along barely. Barely made it safely into a parking lot. And only pulled over because I immediately called the dealership to find out what to do. Luckily, I had none of my children in the car and was not in a busy area. Car only has 30,000+ miles on it and was told the engine failed. Had it in the dealership 3 weeks before this happened and they claimed everything looked great in the car. Kia is refusing to replace the engine.

Tl the contact owns a 2016 kia Sorento. While driving approximately 69 mph, a clicking noise was heard from the engine and the vehicle stopped. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road. The contact called napleton kia of fishers at 317-449-0694 (13417 britton park rd, fishers, indiana) and was informed to bring the vehicle in for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was taken to the same dealer and the technician diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the failure was due to poor maintenance and would not be covered by the warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
I am the secondary owner of a 2013 kia Sorento, with 45,000 miles and the 2. 4 l theta 11 mpi engine. After working on March 2nd 2018, I started the car to go home and heard a very loud clanking noise. It was so bad I called to have it towed home because it was way to late to have towed to a dealer. Here comes the bad news. Kia mechanics came back to tell me I had thrown a rod and the engine was ruined. What? at 45,000 miles? how is that possible? well at least I have a warranty right. Oh no. Turns out I am 14 days past the 5 year warranty. Because I am not the primary owner the $6185 bill to fix it would have to come from my pocket. I called kia corporate pleaded my case and got a case # to see if they could do anything about my situation. After 2 weeks in limbo and over $400 in rental bills. Kia came back with nope, to bad not under our warranty and the recalls for the same problem on the Sorento engines don't cover your car because it was made in the georgia plant and not the iowa plant. So kia will only take part blame for these same engine problems. And every one who has a blown engine not made in iowa is out of luck with a huge repair bill. Well there is a class action lawsuit for the kia's with the gdi engines. Any one thinking we should do something about the cars they are trying to sweep under the rug. Email me. I need a new hobby. Still in limbo with no car. Zippitydoome@aol. Com.

While driving about 40mph on a highway with a speed limit of 55 mph, the engine sized without any warning. The car would not accelerate and went about 1 mile and started making a clunking sound. Car was pulled over immediately and the all the warning lights came on and the car was inoperable. Cooper kia (5056 commercial dr. , yorkville NY) was contacted but the vehicle was not diagnosed. Referenced NHTSA campaign # 17v224000 (engine and cooling) as a possible solution. Advised that this engine was not in a recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure was about 115,000 miles.

While returning from my aunts funeral in kansas, making my way to georgia. The car began to slow down and stop, on the highway. Then it cut off, wouldn't start or move. There was this whining and clanking sound, white smoke and fire shot out from under the car, as I was told by a person that was passing by, he stopped to make sure that I got out of the car. It just got to 130,000 miles. Had it towed to a shop and was told that the engine was gone.
While reverising into a driveway the vehicle experienced low power, when the gas pedal was pressed for addition power there a clunking noise which resulted from a broken axle and engine mounting point on the engine itself.

The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph a ticking noise emerging from the engine compartment started, the vehicle started to loose power and the noise got louder then the vehicle stalled. The oil warning indicator illuminated. The contact had to coast to the shoulder. The vehicle was towed to the dealer saint cloud kia in waite park minnesota. The vehicle still at the dealer awaiting for a diagnosis. Engine lockd up making a clicking sound when started. It locked up steering and gear shift a couple times before it started the noise. Was told by dealership not covered by recall because manufactured in different plant than other Sorentos with exact same problem.
Kia Sorento 2013 88k miles, going down highway, loss of power, light clunking noise. Coasted to stop. Towed to a shop. They said timing chain not lubricated, broke and destroyed cylinder head. Can't get replacement motor because of a freeze on selling these motors.
5/30/2017 I was driving and I was merging onto the freeway so I gave my car about half throttle and as soon as the car started to accelerate the engine stopped accelerating while my foot was still on the gas and all of the light went on on my dashboard and the engine completely shut off. The rpm's dropped completely but everything else stayed on, lights, steering, brakes, interior electronics, everything but the engine itself remained on. I went to start the car after I came to a complete stop and it make some weird ticking noises before it actually turned on and it idled, but as soon as I gave it some gas the engine shut off. Dealer said engine was seized and there was sludge in the oil, did not physically see this my self.
On may 5, while driving on the 5 fwy, I felt my car loosing power and when I stop, my car shut off, I turn the car on, hear a clicking sound but was able to pull to the left lane emergency lane. Tow the car home and worked on the car, found that the engine bearing gave out. I check for replacement parts and found it was on a recall. Took the car to the dealer and dealer would not fix it due to trying to fix issue. It will cost 8000 dollars to fix out of pocket.
The contact owns a 2012 kia Sorento. While operating the vehicle, a loud ticking noise was present coming from the engine and the vehicle suddenly shut off. The vehicle was towed to southwest kia of round rock, texas where it was diagnosed that the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,000.
My car has worked fine up until the very moment this occurred. I was driving on the highway at 60 mph when it started making clicking noises. It became very hard and heavy to drive. Not more than 15 miles later I was able to exit and the moment I turned right the engine began to shake, the power steering no longer worked, and the car shut off. Thank goodness I was able to glide into a parking lot or a major accident and injuries could have occurred. There are metal shavings in my oil and the bearing completely fell out of my car. I went back to pick up all the pieces (see picture attached) no engine light has ever come on. I have never missed an oil change. This car is only 6 years old with 67,000 miles on it. Kia is claiming my car is not one that is in the engine recall.
The contact owns a 2014 kia Sorento. The contact stated that the engine failed. While driving, the vehicle decelerated and emitted a loud ticking noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was oil sludge in the engine. The dealer stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The engine was not replaced. The manufacturer was notified. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 60,000.
While moving at 70 mph interstate speed limit, my daughter heard a loud pop and the engine made popping noises as she brought the SUV to a stop on the side of the interstate. She ultimately restarted the vehicle and drove at 30 mph with flashing hazard lights on until reaching the next exit (2-3 miles max. ) to a safe location being around 9:00 pm in the evening. The SUV was taken to a firestone mastercare store in chattanooga, TN. After removing the engine cover, the mechanic found part of the spark plug and ignition part, indicated that the location where the spark plug was inserted had been stripped out by the parts blowing out of their normal location with extreme pressure. The SUV has been towed to my home where it is sitting pending what options are available for repair.

Purchased 2013 kia Sorento brand new on 6/11/12, car was shaky and idled roughly on & off during the first year, seems to have resolved itself. On 12/22/14 while driving 35 mph on secondary road engine began to make a ticking sound. Parked vehicle and had it towed the following day on 12/23/14 to kia dealership, they called me that afternoon and told me it was the oil control valve and it was ordered and requested for overnight and car would be done on 12/24/14. I called dealer on 12/24/14 @ 11:03am and part wasn't in yet was told that I'd be called when part arrived. Received call from dealer at 2pm that part had arrived and been installed by tech but that engine was still making ticking noise, so not fixed. Was told that they would have to start over again on Friday 12/26/14 with request to kia warranty service for approval for "engine tear down", which I will also have to authorized and agree to pay $400. 00 for (waived if all repairs are covered by warranty). This vehicle only has 53000 miles on it and has been driven for 30 months, all regular maintenance schedules followed and there should no way be an internal engine problem on a properly built engine. Kia has some serious issues with the engine in this car and should have recalled the entire line of 2013 Sorento's and corrected the problem. I was told by the service department at the dealer that " we may be looking at a new engine". I hope not, even though I could have a almost 3 year old car with no mileage I don't want one, if the first engine has this serious problem what would the second engine have. I am going to do everything in my power to hold kia responsible and make them cover under warranty.
The car makes a bad ticking noise mostly when start up and it gets so bad that sounds like my engine head wants to blow. And everytime I start the car the biggest cloud of smoke comes out the exhaust can cover an entire parking lot with smoke its very embarrassing. Theres an electrical problem with the windows and the switches. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't. I think my car also missing rear suspension shock absorbers. My oil levels get so low that the check engine light and oil sensor light don't even come on to warm me. I mean my car looks new but has internal defective problems. I read online an entire article about the kia Sorentos that kia sold were defective. I do not want to be next in a serious accident. . Read more...

This contact is reporting about 2013 kia Sorento. I was driving slowly and I heard a noise. It sounded like a rubbing or popping nose. I called and made an appointment. I also complained about the stalling I felt when I was driving 20-30 miles an hour. The mechanic stated yes I noticed that but I think it is the eco system which saves gas. I said cant we turn it off? he stated he did not know. He ordered the part (strut top bearing) for the popping sound, gave me the note he wrote, and it did not say a word about the stall. . However, when I drove off the lot and figured out how to turn off the eco system the car stalled worse, it feel t as if the car was having issues shifting in to gear. This is so awful, I am paying 26,000 dollars for this car and it is my first car and here I am having issues already. . . It also feels like it is veering to side to side when I drive it, but the mechanic stated he was not able to duplicate the problem.
The contact owns a 2011 kia Sorento. The contact was driving 50 mph when she heard a clicking sound coming from the engine as the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the filter place in the engine was not up to standards and the engine would need to be rebuilt. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 12,000.
The contact owns a 2011 kia Sorento. While the contact started the ignition, there was a loud clanking noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. The "tire pressure" warning indicator began to flash for forty- five to fifty seconds. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they were unable to duplicate the problem. The clanking noise continued to occur intermittently. The failure mileage was approximately 65.
@ 62,894 miles: driving from gas station to home less than 1 mile away, engine made noise and started running rough. Parked car overnight, then drove about 3 miles to closest repair shop. Diagnosed as sheered off crankshaft pin/bolt. Repaired under extended warranty with new parts from kia, but one week later had to be towed in because it happened again. Crankshaft was warped so engine was rebuilt with used crankshaft and new parts from kia. @ 104,595 miles: driving on rural road in heavy traffic, lights on dashboard came on and lost power steering. Speed was 55 mph. Managed to steer car off road without incident. Towed to repair shop. Crankshaft pin/bolt sheered off. Cost to repair $895. 30. @ 109,885 miles: engine began making clicking noises and lost power steering, etc. Crankshaft pin/bolt sheered off. Repair not recommended. Replacement engine recommended. There is a class action lawsuit pending against kia for this problem. Please search online and you will find there are literally thousands of people who have had this issue with this same vehicle (2002-2009) and many had accidents because of it. Why is this not in the news? kia knows this part is bad, they know this design is bad, and they continue to put band aids on engines rather than fixing them.
