1 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 01/29/2021

Engine is failing and burning excessive oil, need oil change every 1k miles. Currently complying with oil consumption testing, however sensors are going on and I believe its due to excessive heat emitting from the engine. Service advisor submitted a goodwill claim for the abs, traction control, tire pressure & e-brake sensors and kia denied it. I just paid off my car, which is in great condition, and never had these issues. Kia just keeps doing oil changes and telling me to return every 1k miles. Also having ac issues, I recently found out my suction hose was leaking and had to replace it, after paying $160 for ac diagnosis. Broke down and paid $471 (originally $541 before discount) for a plastic hose and was told it would take 2-3 days to get here. About 27 days later, the part finally comes in, while my car happened to be at the dealership for a week unexpectedly. After getting 2 oil changes $140 in one month and driving for the first 1k miles after starting the oil testing, I went in at 8:30am to get an inspection on 3/15/21. I was informed that they would need to keep my car, and had to wound up getting a rental car. Another $239 I don't have. I then had to pay for labor and freon $286. After all the waiting and trouble I went through, suffering with no ac in FL, and spending a total of $1,296; they tell me after installing the part my ac compressor is bad and it would cost $905. So I still don't have ac! at this point, the engine needs to be replaced, I would like to be reimbursed for rental expenses while doing the oil testing, future rental/loaner accommodation because I know they will keep my car again, and assistance with the compressor and sensors. Being I paid for an overpriced hose, and the engine is failing. Now since last oil test, gas gauge does not match electronic range reading. Not sure if gas is full or not. When seatbelt dings speed gauge jumps.

4 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 05/01/2020

Driving on the thru-way going 65 mph when my vehicle jerked forward suddenly. I was able to pull over, vehicle lost control of steering and brakes and completely just 'shut off' on me with no fore-warning. Called aaa, tech. Could visibly see a belt which had ripped out of engine and was dangling under vehicle. I then had vehicle repaired- a new belt was installed , a brand new alternator, new brakes, oil change. 3 weeks after this event, I was again driving on the thru- way in almost the same exact location and this happened again. . My vehicle just went dead, this time slowing down and dying. Called aaa , they serviced me off the thru-way (thru-way division) and upon having vehicle looked at my choice shop. . I was told that my vehicle had completely seized (was now totally dead) and was non- repairable without a new engine. Also told that my vehicle had little oil even though I had only 3 weeks prior gotten an oil change and car repairman could not report any physical issues with oil connections, ie. Gasket leak, drain plug, seal issues. Due to the amount of monies I have spent from day 1 on this vehicle, my experiences and the lemon the vehicle has proven to be, I find this incredibly unsettling and know that there were issues going on with this vehicle prior to it going onto the road that should have been repaired and were not due to no fault of my own. Aside from these issues, in past there were several other problems related to the locks and windows locking on there own while vehicle in motion and fuses related to this as well as the vehicle shocking me when opening drivers side door handle which is incredibly unsafe! I request that someone please look into the recall withholding which has come to light with kia and my vehicle qualifying for these recalls as kia has told me that they are unwilling to assist me financially as well as west herr.

6 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/13/2019

I bought my 04 Sorento from my aunt who was the only owner. It had a power steering issue at that time which took several attenpts to fix. About a month later we we visiting family and had to turn around. Upon stopping we noticed smoke from the engine compartment so I grabbed my 4 y/o daughter out of the car and by boyfriend opened the hood to find a small fire on opposite side fro where battery is. Once fire was put out we drove . 5 miles on a city rd to family. The power steering was gone at that time as well. 10/13/19 - the directional worked all day and come night time when I came out from the store and started vehicle they did not work. The next day they worked finehowever, on 10/14/19 - I started the car in am and there was a squeaky belt. I hit the gas pedal quickly and noise went away. Then while driving, the battery and brake indicator lights came on the dash and stayed on so I pulled over and shut car off. Iwas driving my daughter to the park a mile away from home when the battery and brake indicator lights came on again. I turned car off for a few minutes and when I restarted it the lights were off. I went to turn around to go home and the steering completely failed so it was extremely difficult and dangerous. I have not driven it or started it since. My mechanic camt to my home 2 days in a row and was convinced it was crankshaft bolt that snapped. He got it into his shop the following week on Friday 10/26/19 and called a short while later informing me that it was in fact the crankshaft bolt that snapped deep in the shaft and the crankshaft would need to be replaced for a cost of around $3000. I called a few other places and they said the engine would need replacing which would coat around the same. My daughter and I now have no vehicle and are walking her to school which will be difficult come winter months.

The harmonic balancer mounting bolt sheared and stripped the threads in the crankshaft of my 2005 kia serento. The mechanic had my car for 3 months trying to fix this problem. This is evidently a design issue and should have a recall issued. This problem cost me a lot of money to fix. (the car was in motion when the harmonic balancer fell off) my wife struggle to get the car home due to lost of belts.

10 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/31/2018

My engine gave out and my car will not start. I've had a mechanic look at it and they told me I need to replace the timing belt but the complete engine is no longer working. The car does not start and when it did it would still jolt from time to time. I've seen a recall online for my car online but kia said it's not covered because it was off by a couple months. Although the issue is the same.

11 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/20/2018

Mileage 116,145. I was traveling on the highway coming down a steep grade going straight. In the fast lane I was going 75mph and then rapidily excelerated to 82mph ( the rpms jumped to the 6/7 range). The engine complete stopped. The check engine light, oil light, power steering and battery light all came on. I lost all power steering and rapidly began to slow down. Went from 80 to 50 in a matter of 10 seconds. I was almost crushed by a semi truck as I desperately tried to move the car to the shoulder lane. The car was barley able to coast and it was a struggle to maneuver the vehicle off the highway. I put the car in park and sat waiting for a tow truck for 30 minutes - I took a photo of the warning lights that remained on. Towing company checked all fluids , gas, alternator, battery, belts and all were in working condition. There was no indication why this happened. The vehicle started back up and all warning lights went off.

12 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 08/15/2018

Since I bought the 2011 kia Sorento the transmission or engine tends to stall in the middle of driving like not changing gears, gets locked, jerks back and forth till it unlocks or changes gears while at the same time slowing or stopping car in it's tracks. Twice I have hit my head on the steering wheel, have had seat belts lock tight against me and my passengers when it locks while trying to change gears. It happens at least 3-6 time a year since I have had the car. I have reported it to my service dealership kearny pearson kia, 7303 clairemont mesa blvd, san diego, CA 92111 and they have not found anything wrong. These past two years the gears locking is getting worse and the car slows down instantly from driving on the frwy 65 mph down to 35 mph instantly almost having cars hit me from behind. Same for driving on the street going 35-40 mph dropping to 5-10mph and stop/jerk/go/stop/jerk and almost having cars behind me crash into me. I have been blessed to have had fast reacting drivers behind me or no drivers. This last incident last month was so powerful that I smacked the steering wheel and thought I had gotten hit but didn't. My chest got tight as if I was having a heart attack from the force and my kids cried from the whiplash. This was yet the strongest. Also, since 2011 I have had 7 - 10 incidents of smoke coming out of the air vents, smiling like fire. I turn off the vent and it continues for 10min then goes away. I am no mechanic but if I had to guess I would say something with the air-conditioning being high for long periods and then when it gets turned down or off seems to activate these things especially the gears locking. Just my observation. I hope you can get to the bottom of this because for the first time in my life I fear for my life and those with me or around me with this car. You just don't know when it will happen next.

13 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 03/05/2018

I had a few problems with my car, one of them is that my car made a big rattle noise while driving at about 45mph in the street, I call kia made an appointment took the car and when they got back to me they said it was the throttle need it to be replace ($500) then the started ($600) I have replace this 2 times already, then the drive belt idler pulley and the brake lights go off very often, and so on. Make story short my car was in the safety recall, my car as showed all the signs, rattle noise, the oil light goes on and off the dashboard I have spend a lot of money in this car but they refuse to replace the engine. I received a second safety recall number 17v224 on October 17, 2017. And then another notice from kia saying they extended the warranty on my car to 120,000 miles. On my point of view that doesn't fix the problem.

14 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 02/23/2018

15 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 01/08/2018

Have experienced repeated failure of cam sensor, cam shaft pulley bolt, failure of engine cooling system, failure of clutch assembly and transmission, failure of air conditioning, failure of electrical system for exterior lights. . All issues are as documented by the hundreds and hundreds of complaints by other owners who are waiting for an investigation, a recall, or enough deaths and injuries to receive any assistance of any kind from this organization or the manufacturer. I can not justify spending one more dollar ( $16,000 in the 3 years since purchased for $4,000). To repair this vehicle and it is once again inoperable for the same issues. . No car dealer wants it as a trade in, the standard offer is $300. I cannot sell it to anyone and then face myself in mirror. Perhaps a public sake. . . $1 per minute to anyone who wants to bash a kia (sledgehammer provided). Proceeds will be applied to purchase of replacement vehicle, which will not be a kia.

16 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2004 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/06/2017

17 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 04/28/2017

I picked up the car on April 28th from monroeville kia for some warranty work on the oil pan and timing belt cover. About an hour later, the car started smoking and I could smell oil burning. I was advised by the dealership to bring the vehicle back to them. I turned around and started heading back there. I made it about a mile when the gas pedal went to the floor and completely lost power and the engine light came on. I put my flashers on and coasted to the side of the road. When the car came to a stop, I noticed flames creeping up between the hood and the windshield. I put the car in park, shut the car off and removed the keys, and got out of the car. Within 30 seconds or so the car was completely engulfed in flames. I had already started calling 911 to report the fire. The police and fire department showed up within 6 minutes, but the car was completely engulfed in flames. The car was on the side of a main road. The car was towed as per my car insurance company and they were sending and investigator to look to determine a cause. The car was a complete loss, including everything inside the vehicle. This included kids sports equipment, toys, car seats, clothes, bowling equipment, etc. The only thing they have been able to determine in 3. 5 weeks is that the fire started in the engine compartment. I'm unsure if this has anything to do with the current recall of 17v224000 dealing with the motor at this time. I'm awaiting word from Kia Motors inc. About any investigation they may want to do.

18 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 01/03/2017

My vehicle was in motion on a highway driving 60 miles per hr to work (30 miles from home) in pouring rain when engine, brake and battery light came on. Thank god that I made it to work safely but then only to realize that power steering had locked up. Looked under the hood, power steering fluid and brake fluid fine but one belt had came off and the other belt just barely hanging on from the alternator and pulley. Thought pulley had locked up but took to a mechanic just 1/2 mile down from my job and he said that my problem is that the crankshaft bolt had broken off inside of the crankshaft. I go online and find that there were a lot more complaints of the same issue with my make and year as well as others. The previous recall by kia was only for 2003-2004 (certain models) not including mine but this seems to be a definite issue so the recall should be extended to other years and models such as mine. Thank god that I made it to work safely and now have to find another means to get around since this is my only transportation.

19 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/20/2016

Driving on highway rte 24 when crankshaft pulley broke off causing engine and brake lights to come on. It was impossible to control and to steer the vehicle causing me to nearly get into an accident. Subsequently, my vehicle got towed from the highway to a mechanic shop who informed me that my 2005 kia Sorento's crankshaft pulley bolt broke off - therefore to buy an engine or junk it. Unfortunately, I owned this vehicle for only 1 year 3 months and with these problems. I don't have any money to replace it right now and I don't know what to do to get to work going forward.

Failure Date: 07/16/2016

2013 Sorento started making a clicking noise that sounded like a loose fan belt. Then while driving in city traffic and approaching a red traffic light, SUV stalled. Was able to start SUV again and continued home with the engine making a loud clunking noise. Roadside asst towed to dealer who said the engine failed and would need replacing. They also said it would not be covered under warranty. The car has been on the dealers lot for eight months because of the expense of replacing the engine. .

22 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

In November of 2015, I was on my way home from work and just picking my one year old up from daycare, when I heard a loud screeching noise from a belt. My gauges went wild and I my power steering was in and out. By the time I hit the main highway to get home as I was exiting my power steering went completely out and the car could not be driven any further, so I had to coast to the side of the road. This was during rush hour traffic, I am soooo lucky that I hadn't quiet entered the highway yet. Had to get towed home. Got home and noticed the crankshaft bold was broken and the belts were thrown. We fixed it and now it has just done it again on July 1st as I was backing out of the driveway to go out of town. I didn't drive it because I knew the bolt was about to break because the harmonic balancer pulley was wobbling really bad, the air wouldn't work and the gauges started going crazy. Also the pulley's were struggling to spin. Is it going to take someone to loose their life before something is done about it?.

23 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 06/22/2016

Driving across a 4 lane expressway, barely made it across, the vehicle sputters and comes to a stop after fighting with the power steering losing all control. Crankshaft pulley has damaged the engine so severe, that a new engine was put in at our expense ($5,000), gas tank was discovered to have a hole and leaking gas. Air bag light comes on and off just depends on it's mood, the display on the radio, etc. Goes away in cold weather, and now have a constant thump thump when driving as if the tire is flat. Driving for 5 months with new engine, I pressed on the accelerator quickly to pass a truck when a loud noise (sounding like the engine blew) from the engine was heard then something comes loose and hits the undercarriage so hard I can feel it through the floorboard. No smoke, no elevation in temperature. Pull over, there is now a vibration when idling but cannot see anything obvious missing. Whatever it was took chunks out of the right front tire. Brakes seemed to lock up at times and you could feel something like a pump losing air and the car slides just before the complete stop with a low groaning noise. Haven't took to the mechanic yet, but will be soon.

25 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 04/15/2016

My 2006 kia Sorento has had a few problems that I fear may be very dangerous. A few months ago I was driving on highway and it felt like it was speeding up on its own. As I got off the highway on an s curve the car completely died. The battery and check engine light came on. It started back up and I got to work. The next morning on the way to work it died again at the same spot on the off ramp. I had to have it towed and missed a day of work because of it. I brought it into the shop and mechanic said the alternator belt was loose and he fixed it. However its happened since numerous times when I turn the car off and try to start it again the car wont start at all for 20 minutes to a couple hours. Now recently it will shut off as I'm driving and steering wheel is very hard to turn. It is getting more and more frequent and is effecting work. Kia dealerships refuse to fix it at cost even though it seems like a big problem that many kia customers have had to deal with. Other mechanics say they don't even want to touch the problem because of the reviews of problems on the internet. Please inform me and anything I can do as soon as possible.

Failure Date: 03/19/2016

The crankshaft bolt supporting the timing sprocket and balance pulley snapped again for the third time. Right now the vehicle is in the the kia dealer service center to replace it. Once again they are asking for a ridiculous amount of money to fix. Last bolt lasted 4,000 miles before it snapped while driving 25 mph.

28 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 01/15/2016

Belt sprocket and harmonic balancer with bolt. The bolt is made of substandard material and broke causing the automobile to lose power steering and other vital car features. No warning, it just broke while in motion causing all of the belts to seize. I was on a hilly mountainous road in my home area of high ridge missouri, acutally on the high ridge. I am lucky that I am Smart enough to drive defensively and was able to coast to a safe side road. Two mechanics came to my rescue and easily saw that the problem stating that I would need a whole new engine. I have a temporary fix estimate from my mechanic but he says the car really needs a whole new engine. . . . .

29 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 11/11/2015

Less than a year prior, timing belt needed replaced. A costly fix. Only months later due to problem(common issue kia is aware of) with crankshaft sensor, vehical stalled and died driving down the road. There was no warning for this and when the engine stopped while going down the highway, I lost all control of power stearing, speed, brakes and other main elecrical componets. I was in the middle of a curve of the highway when this occured. This threw me into ongoing traffic. Luckily, I only hit a hwy traffic sign. The recalls for this vehicle needs to be updated and added to. This vehical should not be aloud on the road! its dangerous for everyone on the road.

30 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/29/2015

I was turning onto a street and heard a big clunk only to find out the bolt on the crankshaft broke off again on 10/29/15 as well as 7/30/13. The power steering went out & battery light came on. Lost power and everything after a big clunk! this happens all the time: there are a multitude of these same complaints: this engine was replaced in may 2010 and the harmonic balancer and pulley have been worked on twice since 2010. There is a defective bolt that was replaced with a new defective bolt. This is happening numerous times to many kia Sorento owners and they are left stranded. Kia knows about it and refuses to do anything! my car is sitting at country kia in charleston, SC because the extended- warranty will not cover this defective bolt and I can't pay $5000. 00 on a car that is now only worth $3000. 00. I had to stay in charleston, SC an extra 2 days at my expense $79. 00 /night, pay $75. 00 for the tow bill and an additional $55 or $65 for the kia dealership to check it out. I had to rent a car to come back to FL as I was stranded in charleston without transportation. I cannot afford the $5000. 00 for repairs and the $1500. 00 to pay it off just to get the title to send this to a junk yard. The mileage just turned to 107,000 or 108,000. This is the 4th time that there was an issue on this part of this car having to do with the same issues related to this defective bolt, harmonic balancer and pulley as a result of this defective bolt. (this is only on one car). You will see how many times this is occurring to many other owners of these kia Sorentos. . Read more...

31 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/27/2015

Kia Sorento - I have a 2006 Sorento that just turned 60,000 miles in October. I had driven it at lunch one day, when I went to leave the office at 5, the car was making an awful grinding noise and the emergency brake light came on, even though the brake was not on. Then the power steering went out. I had to have it towed in because the crankshaft malfunctioned and that along with all the belts and parts had to be replaced. It took 5 weeks for the repair, and now it has to go back because one of the new belts is screeching. I paid $1,300 for the repair and kia only paid part of the repair. Why would they pay for part and not all, if it was a defective part that there should have been a recall on?.

Failure Date: 10/06/2015

I was driving our 2004 kia Sorento with my 3 young children in the car. Driving down a city street at 45 mph the car began to jerk as all the lights flashed on the dashboard. I lost all power, but I was able to cruise to park next to a curb, however the vehicle would not restart. I had it towed to my mechanic. The mechanic found that the crankshaft sprocket, key shaft, damper pulley, and crank bolt all were damaged and needed to be replaced.

35 Engine Belts And Pulleys problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 08/27/2015

While driving down highway, both the break light and battery light came on and lost power steering. Was able to make it to a safe location. When at first glance it appeared that the main belt has slipped off the pulley. When towed to a service station for assessment and repair, it was discovered that the harmonic balancer bolt had broken off in the crankshaft. We are still in process of trying to find out of the remaining part of the bolt can be removed or if the entire engine will need to be replaced. The bolt is not considered a 'working part' of the engine and extended warranty refuses to cover the repairs. The root of the problem is in the roll pin inside the casing that wears down and the bolt can not support the stress. Kia has had a recall on model years 2003 and 2004 but the problem continues for 2005 and 2006 years and research is showing that kia is not covering the problem for 2005 or 2006.
