I was leaving my cousins apartment complex when the vehicle stalled. I attempted to try to start the vehicle again but it would not turn over. All the lights in the vehicle were on and the radio was still playing so it did not appear to be the battery. I attempted to try and start the vehicle again and noticed gray smoke coming from under the hood. I then began to smell something burning, so I exited the vehicle and popped the hood. I then noticed a fire coming from the engine behind the air filter componet. About 10 seconds later I heard a pop and took off running to a safer location and called 911. The fire then began to grow bigger and the whole front of the vehicle was in flames. The fire department responded and put the fire out. There were no warning lights that came on. If I had not exited the vehicle when I did I probably would have been severly burnt as the whole front windshield shattered and the dash was melted and front seats were burnt.

I had taken my vehicle into kia on 02/22/21 to have the engine looked at because it is knocking, and I am experiencing loss of power, burning smells, jerking, stalling, having to add oil in my SUV weekly. We already replaced the valve cover gasket twice, and also the high fuel rail sensor, spark plugs prior to taking it back to them. We had a certified mechanic do the repairs for us. My SUV was at kia a total of 45 days though and I got maybe four phone calls, one they just told me I need a new engine and the issues are related to issues pertaining to the recall. The others were about the airbag recalls that needed to be done, and are not even fully complete. I was told by a gentleman named david to drive it when I get it back until it seizes or starts knocking, whatever comes first. I told them everything else that's been happening when I took it in so they know. I was told under kia guidelines that kia would not put a new engine in my vehicle under the recall even though my engine is part of the recall until something actually happens. That is not safe! I have children and I don't want to get hurt or my children to get hurt if it seizes while driving it, and then there is the fire risk with it also that I received a letter for. I am really concerned and frustrated. It wont even pass smog right now until it has a new engine and I cannot even get my tags and registration which I paid for until it passes smog. Here I am also paying a car payment monthly on this thing when clearly the engine is failing because it is a bad engine. All I did was drive it around town taking my kids to school and back and forth to work. I filed two complaints to kia regarding these issues and have not gotten any responses, they have treated me like crap. When I picked up my SUV it was completely out of gas, it has no oil in it, it was dirty and my brand new battery was dead.

While driving, my truck stalled while turning into a parking lot. Immediately after the stall, the engine light came on and started blinking, shortly after the battery light came on as well. I parked the car in a safe location to check the vehicle. The vehicle would not turn over. I needed to jump the car several times in order for it to turn back on. The engine light still appears blinking as I drove it to get a diagnostic reading . While driving the car , leaving idle the car would jerk and have a hard time moving back into motion. The code read p1236 knock sensor fault/sensor bad. My car had just come out of kia two weeks prior in full health. This issue came out of no where.

Now 12mos. Later I need a new engine,I had 2 diag>done and both place said I need a new engine, the 4ring faulty. I feel like know one is trying to help me to replace this engine. I need help, not fair to me 2017 car new a new engine,I only had it for 13mos. The car shakes when I stop,it slows down when driving. Thank you for taking the time to read my letter. I hope I can get some help.
Feb12, 2020morning, my son and his girlfriend were driving my car to work. He called me and said the car had stalled out and won't start. I asked all the questions related to an alternator issue like did radio turn off lights get dim . No was response, said car would surge increasing speed then if took foot off accelerator would drastically slow down. When approaching stoplight just cut off. No warning no lights, wouldn't start. Thankfully the traffic wasn't heavy and a nice person helped them get it off the road. Had it towed home then to the mechanic for what we thought was alternator only to get disturbing call saying the motor is shot. I had the same tow truck driver pick it up and take it to mechanic and he kept asking if I was sure it was the alternator, he had told me he thought the engine had seized by how it sounded when he tried to start it to try and position it better for the roll back, I had hope he was wrong. There were regular oil changes done and I have checked my VIN against the recall and although the year and make are correct my VIN is not included. I operate a cleaning service and desperately need my car. In fact we were searching for my son a car as he had graduated and became employed and now instead of looking for one we've got to get two. And still make pymts on this one to save my credit. It's really sad that kia is doing valuable customers like this. People need their cars. Last year I tried to trade it in they offered such a low value for mine I can't help but believe they knew it's a problem car. This is a real problem, I have read so many issues with this year and make and kia is not offering assistance. I'm going to try them and hope and pray they will help.
2/11/driving north on I-55 when the car suddenly started hesitating as if it wasn't getting fuel, I pulled over & heard a crack noise, car stalls, smoke coming from inside the hood, engine, oil, battery & trans dash lights lit up after the noise & smoke, but oil gauge never ever got hot (even before this) I opened hood & saw liquid had exploded under the hood. I tried to start the car & it wouldn't. The next day, had it towed to a shop, the mechanic said: engine is blown & no clue why, there's a hole in the engine block & nothing you could've done to prevent it, it definitely seems like a mechanical defect & it was just a matter of time before it blew. so imagine my confusion when my 2013 vehicle's engine (maintained perfectly as I had free oil changes through kia so I got them done regularly & it's all in their system) randomly blows & mechanic has no idea why. I researched & 0 open recalls, kia headquarters said it's my responsibility as my VIN not included on recall detailing my exact complaint because it didn't have a gfi engine. This is obviously a mechanical defect and kia should be held accountable and responsible for replacing the defective engine on my car!! I'm now without income due to the coronavirus pandemic happening, so I can't afford the car pmt that I'm responsible for a vehicle I just purchased 12/2018!! this is horrifying that kia refuses to replace my engine. I'm a single mom with 2 kids (8 & 9) trying to survive & they refused to even give a loaner while I try to raise the money to pay for a used engine to be put in. This has put me in a horrible financial situation as I rented a car for a month before the lockdown & could have used the $ towards repairs but I had to work so I had no choice, but now can't afford anything so I'm just stuck with no help at all for something that is not my fault. Kia is responsible & I'm out of options & help.

Car stalls out while driving then I have to pull over and restart it and it has a jerking to it when this happens.
Driving on highway at 65 miles per hour and car suddenly lost all power and came to complete stop in heavy traffic. Vehicle restarted after 2 attempts. Took to kia dealer for inspection and there was no recorded code and they were unable to re-create issue so nothing was done. Reading other complaints of sudden stalls on this site makes driving this vehicle scary. The vehicle has only 31k miles on it and has had no other issues. Kia should be doing something before someone has a tragic accident!.

The car had emissions issues, attempted to repair, after installing all new parts ourselves still was showing emission code, looked up if there was a recall, and there was a safety recall on the engine due to poor machining can cause the engine to seize and cause operator to loose control. Contacted kia and they towed the vehicle to a local dealership in kingston NY. Originally claimed they would replace the engine and two other recalls. Two days later received a call from the kia dealer stating that they would not change the engine due to the fact the emissions light was on and that we had worked on the car. The emissions code is unrelated to the issue of the recall. The car is still with the original owner. Do they still have to do the engine replacement regardless of us attempting the emission issue? her 16 year old daughter was going be the one driving the vehicle- we are concerned that the car is unsafe due to the recall they are refusing to repair.
