Car Stall Problems of Kia Motor Sorento - part 2

My car has been having strange intermittent engine troubles & symptoms. (the first symptoms appeared in September 2019) it started with the accelerater going out on the highway over about 50 mph once or twice randomly. About a month later it did it again. And then this time it also stalled at a stop sign. Other times it feels like the car engine hiccups. It will lose power and come back on within a half second. And then continue as if nothing happened for another month. Recently the symptoms are happening more often. It is terrifying. I can't drive on the highway because I am so scared. At this point, these symptoms have now taken place numerous times and it doesn't matter what speed - when in motion up to 60-70 mph, around 30 mph, at a stop sign, when I was trying to turn left, etc. I have taken it to a mechanic several times since the first symptom. And I have taken it to a kia service location. All have said the car seems to be running great and there are no codes showing up or engine lights coming on. They cannot see anything wrong with the car unless the symptoms appear. I have seen some articles online about a recall for kia's of my year with the same symptoms, but this recall is not on my VIN? I am honestly so upset because I loved this car. I have been looking for a new car, but I really just wanted to get this fixed. I do believe my car is affected by the other recall, but why isnt it showing up? what do I do? this car is putting my life and other peoples lives in danger. I have a lot of travel coming up and I don't know what to do. I need a safe car and I am terrified to drive right now. Can you please help me?.

The motor seized causing the vehicle to stall. I was driving winding mountain roads at a consistent 40-45 mph and when I took one of the curves, the motor seized causing the power steering to also fail. Which made it very difficult to steer away from the cliff adjacent to the road. My mechanics replaced my motor but said the original motor was completely seized to the point that he couldn't work on it.

2015 kia Sorento stalled out while driving on the interstate no prior warning before stalling out. All dash lights illuminated and would not restart. Only clicking when turning the key. Replaced battery and still only clicks when turning the key. Replaced starter now cranks but still will not turn over. 68,000 I am the original owner and all maintenance has been maintained throughout ownership. Contacting the dealership first thing in the morning. If the outcome is the motor being faulty as I have read numerous reports of this ongoing issue and resolution cant be met then legal action will be taken. Thank god we weren't injured from stalling on the interstate or worse. When will it be realized this is a serious problem and dangerous? I pray no lives are lost before action is taken to correct the engine defects.

Tl the contact owns a 2015 kia Sorento. While driving, the vehicle stalled without warning and the steering wheel seized and became difficult to turn. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed, but the technician could not find a failure code. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000. The VIN was not available.

When driving at high altitudes, the car seems to want to stall. We will be driving along just fine and then there is hesitation for a moment and then the car will be going along just fine again and the hesitation happens again. This is continuous throughout our entire high altitude drives. Usually occurs at approximately 8000-10,000 ft in elevation. Seems to occur more often at 40 miles per hour. I am scared we will have complete failure of the car in the mountains and have no cell phone service in order to call someone for help. We have only had this car for about 6 weeks and have taken 4 high altitude drives and this happens everytime. Took the car to the dealership and they told us this is a known issue and kia is working on it. How long will it take kia to resolve this issue? While driving on the interstate we accelerated to approximately 65 mph after entering the interstate on an on-ramp. Within about 1 mile, the vehicle stalled with no warning/ticking/knocking, and gauge/warning lights came on. We coasted to an exit ramp and after coming to a stop realized the engine was stopped at 0 rpm. I tried to start the vehicle multiple times in order to move out of the way of traffic coming from behind, for safety reasons, but the engine was seized and would not turn over. The attempts to start the vehicle additionally cause the starter to fail. During the attempts to start the vehicle, smoke came fromt he engine area as well as the smell of burning metal. I am unsure if the smoke came from the engine or starter. After this two other drivers stopped, I was able to shift the vehicle into neutral, and we pushed the vehicle to a safer location. We are working with kia to replace the engine. Kia is stating the repair is not covered by their recall sc147 and that recall inspection was already completed on our vehicle, even though the failure is symptomatic of the recall defect/issue. Kia has stated that the engine will be replaced under warranty as part of a product improvement campaign but I am waiting for more clarification from kia. As part of the sc147 recall and related kia notices to kia dealers, kia dealers are to provide a loaner or alternate means of transportation (rental car to customers). It has been 2. 5 weeks since the incident and kia has failed to provide a loaner or rental vehicle.

The contact was able to park the vehicle on the side of the road. The vehicle has not been repaired as of yet. The manufacturer has been informed of failure. The failure mileage was 72,000. Dp.

Car stalled on 4/28/2019 in the interstate it did not have any power and it has happened to several kia Sorento owners but the recall for the engine still doesn't come up on the recall system. Code: obdp1326.

That day, the vehicle was towed to russ darrow Mazda 3520 108th street greenfield, WI 53228 (888) 698-9960 where the vehicle was not diagnosed due an expensive diagnoses fee. The mechanics stated that the engine seized and and the engine needed to be taken apart in order to find the failed piece. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 152,000. Jw.

The contact owns a 2017 kia Sorento. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator flashed. The contact took the vehicle to metro kia of madison (5442 wayne terrace, madison, WI 53718) and was informed that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 18v907000 (fuel system, gasoline, engine). The dealer replaced the knock sensor. On another occasion, while traveling 45 mph, the same failure occurred with the check engine warning indicator flashing. The contact returned the vehicle to the same dealer and was informed that the VIN was included in a new unknown recall. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer. The manufacturer was not notified. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

Engine completely lost power and shut down on the highway and when restatred, went into limp mode. Now engine needs replaced and no engines are available. My car has a mobility device installed to accomodate my missing right leg and any rental vehicle is difficuly to use since I have to remove my prosthetic leg to drive it. I need a vehicle fitted to accomodate my disability and dont know when or if I'll be getting mine back.

Lack of acceleration from a stop. When starting from a stop, the vehicle will very slowly move forward with the rpm stalling at approximately 1500 rpm and further depressing of the gas pedal fails to allow it to accelerate further. Wife had issue with trying to get on the freeway when this occurred, it was a safety issue, she was trying accelerate on the on ramp, almost hit from behind. She managed to get to the shoulder and get to the side road. After getting to destination and stopping for awhile, the car started and operated normally to get home. Back to kia, after test drive they were able to duplicate once. There were no warning lights or failure codes. They kept car for six weeks trying to see issue again. We now have a flight recorder installed for a week recording any issues. If we see issue, we have to activate recorder by pushing a button, taking attention off of road. Wife will not drive car unless just around the block.

Taka recall- vechicle has stalled on the highway/streets while driving several times, example I could be in the middle of driving and the car just completely slows down, almost causing accidents which can be very serious. I have taken the car back to the dealer and they said there's nothing wrong, clearly there's and issue with the car. I have been reading storys with consumers having the same issues that I'm having. Kia has not issued a recall which is sad due to the many complaints and life threading situations this has put people in. I'm in the process of hiring and attorney to look into this because no one is giving me answers. Not sure what it could be but I've ask around and some say it sounds like a transmission issue I need answers.

The contact powered off the engine and restarted the vehicle while in traffic and was able to drive normally. The failure recurred twice. Vehicle has 75,000 miles on it and has started to stall at low idle times. Mostly upon start up but has increased to stalling occasionally at stop lights. Engine light will come on car will restart and sometimes engine light goes off other times it will stay on. Has been happening about 3 months now. Had it in the dealership for faulty door handle which is a known problem but was not covered under warranty. Had dealership run diagnostics which of course I had to pay for and they claimed it was reading a cpu error and the board should be replaced $1,400. Lots of recalls on this vehicle, don't see myself buying another kia.

The vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normally. The vehicle was taken to fuccillo kia of greece (located at 4321 w ridge rd, rochester, NY 14626, (585) 720-8000) to be diagnosed, but a failure code could not be found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 78,800.

Vehicle stalls during normal operation both while moving at traffic speeds and at a stop. Initial occurance was while turning left thru an intersection. Engine rpms dropped to zero and engine quit running. Restarted after shifting into neutral. Happened 15 additional times during twenty minute drive home - while stopped at a light, slowing for other vehicles, and when not actually accelerating while driving down the road. Vehicle will not idle once restarted without stalling out. Battery connections are tight, oil levels are normal. Vehicle speed varied from stopped at a traffic light to 55 mph on open road. Stalling occurred whenever accelerator pedal was not depressed. Shifting into neutral and revving motor prevented stalling while at a stop. Unless under acceleration vehicle engine will not remain operating. I am not a qualified mechanic or safety expert, but this condition seems unsafe to me.

The vehicle was towed to romeo kia of kingston (111 schwenk dr, kingston, NY 12401, (845) 477-5400) where it was diagnosed that the connecting rod fractured through the middle of the engine assembly and metal fragments were present. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.

First time in 2017 started car and it started knocking, as I drove it got louder, engine light came on, drove it to kia dealer and motor had thrown a rod, kia honored their recall and supposed new motor was installed with 60 days. No problems until yesterday, 15,000 miles on new motor, as I was driving on freeway at 70mph, engine light came on, so I pulled over within a minute and called tow truck and towed to kia dealer. They were hoping it was just a coil, but today they told me it was the motor again. This time they said kia said I must have drove it a lot after the light came on and would not give me another motor ??? I had bought the extra 20,000 mile guarantee, so even though this supposed new motor only has 16,000 miles running time on it, my mileage is at 111,000 since the first one blew at 95,000. So I should still be getting another motor, but, after reading all of these accounts, looks like I was so lucky for it not to have caught on fire, even if I get it back, I don't think I can put my grandkids in it again, and its almost paid off, love my car, but someone is going to get killed, something needs to be done, soon.

We purchased this 2015 kia Sorento used with less than 40,000 miles but had 62,000 on the engine at the time of failure. I was driving down the highway when I heard a load ticking and then a violent shaking and a bang as the dash panel lite up and the vehicle coasted to a stop. I then looked under the car only to see oil pouring out of the oil pan. I was later told that the piston rod had gone through the oil pan and that there was sludge in the oil pan. When we contacted kia we were made aware that we were beyond the warranty period and the could not help us. Consequently, to save money we purchased a used replacement engine and paid for our local mechanic to install it. The total cost was over $6,000. Since this time, we have become aware of recalls on other kia Sorento engines, but we are concerned that our blown engine was due to a defect in the engine/fuel system, much like the others.

The end of October 2018 my 2014 kia Sorento motor blew up. We heard the knocking on a weekend, kia said to bring it in and it stalled halfway there. Had to call my insurance because kia would not pay for towing. My kia had been checked the year before for the engine recall, of course it passed. It took 2 months to get my car back, they did provide a rental. A month later (Jan. 2019) I smelled gasoline very strong in my car. Had my husband test drive it to make sure that is what it was because I had just put in a full tank of gas. Sure enough I called warner kia of parkersburg again, once again refused towing even though I already knew about the issue with the fuel lines from the engine replacement. I had to call kia consumer affairs to get this car towed to warner kia. Turns out they forgot to replace a bracket during the engine replacement, not very Smart in my opinion for so called certified mechanics. I got it back again Feb. 2019. Now it is March 2019, my transmission appears to be slipping, hesitating to pick up speed. I almost got hit by a semi trying to get onto the interstate because car would not go fast enough. My uncle tried to see if he could check my transmission fluid and of course it is encased, but while doing this he noticed the engine coolant was very low. The level is below l. My engine was just replaced not too long ago and it was in the shop again for more work just last month. I am beyond frustrated. I have made concerns with kia consumer affairs and have not gotten anywhere. I will owe on this car for another 2 years and it looks like it won't last. Also upside down on loan. Now I am scared that my car will catch on fire or cause an accident with my children in my car all because kia can not make better vehicles or at least try to reimburse their customers to keep them happy. I want a new car, and I want kia to pay for it and others vehicles.

While accelerating after a right hand turn into turn only lane headed for highway, my car just seized up and stalled out. I glided to stop and shut off the engine, turned it back on. I accelerated onto on ramp of highway and it seized up again completely stalling. When checking oil levels there was had none, my husband brought me 4 quarts of oil (always followed dealership protocol on oil changes), tried engine again nothing. Towed it to dealer, they removed and dissembled the engine to find point of failure. Found #1 and #4 connecting rod bearings to have spun and welded them self to the crank shaft, also found #2 and #3 to be worn down/chewed up, found bearing debris in the oil pan and through out the engine, needed to replace the engine and all needed seals and gaskets.

Tl the contact owns a 2019 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while stationary at a traffic light and making a left turn, the vehicle began to stall. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to her destination. The vehicle was taken to kia of cleveland (2492 s. Lee hwy, cleveland, TN 37311; (423)693-0505) however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times and occurred intermittently. The manufacturer was informed of failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Tl the contact owned a 2012 kia Sorento. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled and black smoke appeared. In addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact was made aware that the vehicle was being engulfed in flames by another driver. The fire department was contacted and extinguished the fire. The vehicle was towed to a salvage yard where it was deemed destroyed. There were no injuries. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The failure mileage was 101,000.

Pcm recall. Vehicle stalls at stops and slowing of vehicle. August 6 turned off engine would not restart after parking in driveway and turning engine off. August 4 and 5, 2018 vehicle stalled when I was coming to a stop on the road in town.

I cranked my car, put it in drive, and started to pull out of my driveway when my car shook and stalled. All of my lights came on. I then tried to restart my car but it continued to crank over without starting. I gave it a minute and tried it again. The car started, I drove away, stopped at the stop sign, and the car stalled again. I cranked the car again, put it in reverse, it chugged backwards, and then stalled once I got back into my driveway. I let it sit for 5 minutes, cranked it again, then it was fine.

Car loses power when applying gas, then stalls out. I stop and wait for few minutes, then start the car and drive off like nothing happened. It otherwise drives perfect until the random stalling.

Sc147. Why wasn't all the 2014 kia Sorentos included in this recall. My vehicle stalled out on me today doing the same thing that this recall was for. Reported it to kia and they won't do anything. My vehicle was going 55 when it lost acceleration and no power steering and the lights flashing on the dashboard with all of the warning lights on. Coasted into a parking lot, thank god no other traffic was around.

No warning lights illuminated before or after the failure. The vehicle was towed to jeff belzer's 21111 cedar Ave s, lakeville, mn 55044 (952) 469-4444 and the contact was advised that there was no diagnosis for the vehicle but there was a recall on the same make and model of vehicle. The contacts vehicle was not included in the recall as the contact did not have a theta gdi engine. A VIN search was done on the vehicle, no recalls were found. The manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 84,000. Cb.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 kia Sorento. While driving approximately 60 mph, the engine suddenly malfunctioned and the vehicle stalled. After stopping and checking under the hood, the contact noticed smoke coming from the engine. The vehicle was towed to koons kia (9610 reisterstown rd, owings mills, MD) where it was diagnosed that the engine was blown and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 101,000.

Vehicle stalls while in motion and when stopped. When it stalls in motion, there is no steering or brakes. Awd kicks in for no reason and will not go off. I had the vehicle checked and both the map sensor and vcma actuator were both replaced as recommended by the diagnostic computer. I did have a tune up on the vehicle one day prior so I had hoped the spark plugs were the problem. Problem resumed one day after bringing home from shop. I called kia after seeing there was a recall in may of 2017 that covered certain Sorento models that were stalling, however I was told mine was not a part of this recall. I don't know what to do now other than to take it to kia and spend enormous amounts in repairs.
