Over the past couple of months my headlight are shutting off while driving at night. They don’t come on when I start the car some nights. When they shut off it’s hard to get them to turn back on. I’m twisting the knob multiple times to get them back on while driving.

The contact owns a 2017 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the interior lights and headlights turned off and turned back on without driver input. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 104,082.
This very dangerous issue has happened at least 3 times. It happens in frequently but is terrible when it happens because at night you are put into immediate darkness with no warning. Upon flashing the high beams on or using the turn signal the headlights go dark/off. Then you need to restart the car. This is particularly dangerous when driving on dark or high traffic roads because the driver cannot see anything.

The headlights and taillights are constantly going out on their own. Took car to dealership and they say it's fixed, but you don't leave the lot & the light is out again. Same issue has been happening since 2022. Driving on dark road and the lights just go out. This is definitely a safety issue that several people have complained about, but nothing is being done to rectify the situation. Car has been taken to dealership at least on 5 separate occasions. However, this last time they said there is no record of bringing the car for the lights. I even did a google review. Why would the dealership not document service problems?.

I was driving down the highway at night and out of nowhere my head lights turn off. Leaving me and my daughter driving blind going 60 mph. Prior to that on the same night, I picked her up from work I was turning out of the parking lot where she works and the same thing happened but very quickly corrected itself. The area was lit up so it wasn't as noticeable. This is a very dangerous problem.
My 2017 Sorento has been having issues with the headlights for the past 6 months. I keep them on auto mode and half of the time they don't turn on until I click them to "on" and switch them back to auto. There have also been a handful of times where my headlights turn off while driving. This is absolutely unacceptable and extremely unsafe. This needs to become a recall before someone is seriously injured, or dies.
I own a 2016 Sorento sxl awd and this issue just started. I work evening shift and get off at 11pm. I always have the lights set to "auto", while driving home on a rural road at night and the headlights switch off on their own. I have to manually switch the lights off and back to auto for them to come back on. Potentially dangerous situation and kia should issue a recall. Can find any recall but have done research and find it is an on going issue seems be be a multi function switch.

While in auto mode my headlights turn on and off randomly. This is very dangerous at night and has happened several times. When the head lights go off I can not see and no one can see me. There is no warning when this happens. The first occurrence was on August 4, 2024. Kia dealers say it has to be happening when I bring it in but the problem is intermittent. Many other owners have stated they have this same problem in online forums. Canada has issued a recall for this problem (kia canada: rc184).
Driving 70mph, driving lights completely shut off. I was going straight with a car in the distance nobody behind. If my wife and kids were driving that would have been scary.
The headlight setting randomly changes from “auto” to “off” without any operator input. This happens roughly every fourth drive.
Oil leak was diagnosed as bad oil pressure switch that is under extended warranty for certain kia Sorento models with gdi system, but not my car.

Coolant, oil compression, runs hot, to over headlights need replaced frequently.
While driving at night the headlights will go out. It has done so several times in the past. It is very scary when it happens on the freeway. Also the brake lights, specifically the drivers side, will stop working about every 2 weeks or so. I replace it and shortly after, it will stop working.
The lights go off on their own while driving. The lights go on on their own while parked and off.
Shifter isn't releasing from park. They state the body control module (bcm) I been reading on this and it goes out with higher mileage kia Sorento SUV. This is a safety hazard.
I am having an issue with my kia headlights when on dim. The lights are so dim I am afraid to drive the car at night because I am scared I will hit a person, animal or object. I am replacing light bulbs frequently. Cars are flashing their lights at me (when I need to drive at night) because of the dimness. I took my car to a kia dealer and they could not diagnosis the problem. They advised to replace the entire headlight assembly with a cost of $2,600. 00. I am on social security and can't afford to have the repair made. I have read a lot of complaints of other kia lighting issues. I feel a recall should be made immediately due to the seriousness of the issue.
On multiple occasions our headlights will turn on by themselves without the car being for example while we are sleeping in the middle of the night we get a call from our neighbor that our car lights are on. Also while driving at night they will turn off by themselves. On all occasions the light are in auto mode, meaning the lights should turn on/off themselves when necessary but only when the key is in the car and the car is on.
While driving after dark with the auto lights engaged, my headlights suddenly turned off. When I turned the knob on the light switch they came back on and I continued to drive. A short while down the road this happened again. At this point I turned the auto lights off and just ran them in manual on mode. No further incident with them in manual. This has now happened on several occasions.
1) the headlights will turn off while driving when the headlight switch is "automatic. " 2) the headlights and taillights will illuminate after leaving and locking the vehicle leading to a completely drained battery.
Some unknown the vechicle wire and cable has shortage/ electrical problems, no accident occur.

The passenger side headlight has been reinstalled 8 times. The dealership has replaced it and we have replaced it several times. The light goes out constantly and is costing me a fortune to replace as well as possible traffic tickets. The headlights turn off also when in automatic mode. Please recall this vehicle and have this safety and expensive issue fixed. This issue has been going on several months now. The dealership does not provide a permanent solution. This is a defect.
While driving the auto lights shut off and I must turn on lights. This has happened a few times.
The vehicle just lost power at 75mph on i95 northbound heading home to princeton, me, started vibrating really bad misfiring then we pulled over the kia Sorento stalled. Then would not start back up. It’s been using over a quart a week since we got it from the dealership in bangor, maine. We got it towed home our mechanic looked at it and noticed oil on the plugs and said we probably need a new engine. Low beam light keep coming off and on so thinking it’s something electrical. Time to time the transmission take a min to shift the engine rpms stay up n takes a few extra seconds to shift.
The contact owns a 2014 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed at night, she became aware that the headlamps were extremely dim, severely compromising nighttime visibility. The abs warning and check engine warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 23v652000 (service brakes, hydraulic), and the VIN was included, but parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The failure mileage was unknown.
When the headlights are on the "auto" setting they will sometimes turn off when driving. Speed or driving conditions do not seem to be a factor. There have also been 2 separate incidents where the headlights are on in the morning. This occurred when noone had been in the car for hours and the keys were inside my home.
My lights keep going out as I`m driving at night time so I can not go any where at night time I was almost hit head on this the second time this happened when I called kia 3 times now the dealer I purchased it at they keep giving me a run around I have the extended warranty also electrical warranty which I paid extra for they still want to tell me these things aren`t covered. My vehicale has not had any of the software updates. I have tried calling a kia dealer closer to my home I get told I have to go were I purchased my kia.
The headlights go out without any warning. The fog lights work fine. I have had signal bulbs replaced many times but the worst complaint is the headlights.
My headlights, when set to ‘auto’ randomly turn off. Very scary and dangerous at night! also, illegal. I can get them to come back on by turning the lights off and on multiple times from the left stalk. But can’t believe kia hasn’t addressed this.
Overtime the low beam headlights have become very dim. The bulbs have always blown a lot but I have recently replaced both bulbs and they are still very dim. I ordered high powered led bulbs and still the low beams are very dim. So dim you can barely see 10 feet in front of you when driving at night. I have to drive with the high beams on to see where I am going. Research online shows this is an issues with the projector type headlights on these vehicle but no recall is there. The headlight are over $600 to replace for an off brand set. Not something that should be going bad on a 2015 car.

Low beams have completely gone out and will not work. High beams and all other lights work fine. Car burns oil regularly. 2 quarts every 2 weeks is required now ro operate the car. I have only had the car since 2020.
Received important safety recall on 14th November 2023, I called kia dealership and corporate office to resolve and got the answer that the remedy is not available. It’s been more than 45 days since I received a letter, I am not parking my car in my garage, or neither driving secondary to concerned of fire, risk and injury as indicated in later. I went to local kia dealership as I was instructed by the kia corporate number, they instructed me not to worry about it just a precaution, which which is contradictory and different information then I received a letter. I’m strongly filing a complaint on behalf of all the kia sorrento owners, who received this letter and afraid to drive for more than 45+ days and afraid to park inside the garage or right next to the neighbors house. Please address this issue as soon as possible as there are so many of me and they don’t know what to do next.
2011 kia Sorento headlights come on during the bright part of the day and also turn off while driving at night in the auto mode. It is dangerous to be driving while at night when headlights just go out at any time and all the other inside dash lights go dim. It also happens that the headlights come on during the afternoon when it is bright outside also and causes the inside dash lights to go dim. Have seen several kia owners complaining about this same issue. Very, very dangerous to drive at night. No warning of this is going to happen. This is putting us and others at risk of a life threatening situation. No dealership or auto repair shop can address the problem unless they are there when it actually happens. It is available for inspection at anytime to fix this problem.
We were told by our auto mechanic that this vehicle needed a new electrical control module. The part has been on back-order with the local kia dealership for a couple of months. My daughter was driving the car recently when all of the lights went out, and the car would only drive forward approximately 5 miles per hour. The car began to shudder and I had my daughter pull into the nearest parking lot and park the car. The engine shut off as she entered the parking lot, the car could not be placed in any other gear except neutral, and there was a burning smell. We pushed the car into a parking spot and removed the key from the ignition. We had to put the emergency brake on to keep the car from rolling. There is a safety recall related to this specific problem, but kia states it does not have a remedy for the problem yet. What are we supposed to do?.
Both low beam headlight out at same time with no indication or warning . On dash it showed lights operational.
I experienced a malfunction of indicators lamp, abs warning lights, burning/ melting smell and smoke from the engine compartment.
