B1764 OCS mat defect. It's been reported to us by century kia (tampa, FL) that they cannot fix my air bag sensor forcing us to pay a total $2,400. 00. We don't feel we should be held liable for a part that requires zero maintenance. I'd like for kia to resolve this or further action will be taken.

On regular terrain the drivers seat became noticeably loose, and upon going over a speed bump and slightly rougher terrain, the seat is unstable and moves out of place. A few days later the sensor light appeared on the dashboard for the airbags. Uncertain with how it happened, it is a major safety concern and should be addressed accordingly.

7 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/18/2019

2012 kia serento 2/25/2017& kia had a "anti-corrosion"recall and we had it serviced at mike smith kia in paducah,ky-4/14/17,we will call this document1. Then we we received major engine recall in September 20,2017 about 2012 kia serento's stalling, document 2. We took the vehicle to wyatt johnson kia of TN. October 7,2017 & we were told if it did not pass their tests they would replace the engine. Ok,well they said it passed, and changed the oil,&supposedly put an "mil" sensor and"mil" dash light to detect oncoming engine failure and send the car into what they call a 'limp" mode. Which is not documented on document #3 which to our surprise it passed because it had been making an knocking sound and experiencing some attempt's of the vehicle stalling. Yes after the oil change ran some what smoother, but still every now and then we would get an occasional throttle spike,or an attempt to stall. Got an recall to do a logicupgrade,& took it immediately to wyatt j. Kia Dec. 12,2018,diagn. Did not detect code from knok sensor but cautioned,on perform fuel injection/throttle body service for $199. 95 documents #4&5 the we hear about this fuel pump and fuel line recall in michigan on 68,000 vehicles in our year, make and model, which raised a red flag to why our vehicle was continuing to throttle spike's and more apparent attempts to stall. However no recall on our's?have gotten 2 more recall's since on our vehicle, one headlamp low beam connector warranty extension,&two air bag clock spring, called kia to schedule an appoint. For replacement and asked about the fuel pump issue and it possibly being the reason for the throttle spikes & stall attempts all this time, but no recall for our vehicle, and want to charge$120+$199. For diag. And throttle body/fuel injection, but free replacement of air bag spring ass. ?have to keep oil changed, because start's to run really rough. This is getting old!.

8 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/29/2019

The airbag sensor came on. I had it looked at and technician said it was a short in the 2nd firing under the passenger side. He thought that it might have been under a safety equipment warranty. Kia says no, it is under the basic warranty, 60,000 miles. My kia is at 66,000. This same problem has been recalled for past model yrs, but apparently has not been resolved.

10 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/01/2018

Abs light came on around 120,000 miles. Believe it is causing issues for steering wheel controls. Light will not turn off. Clock spring sensor bad. Repairs estimated at $2,000. 11 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/28/2018

Airbag sensor came on despite no accident and hasn't gone away. No damage or hits to my vehicle to cause any malfunction.

12 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

First it started with drivers door not working. I can't get in the driver door because the handle doesn't work. So I have been crawling thru the passenger door to get in the car. But now I can't do that because the passenger door won't open from the outside either. You pull on the door handle and it does nothing. What if there were a fire and I was in the car and someone ran up to get me out they would not be able to open the doors. Next problem is I have an extensive oil leak in the car. So bad it keeps dripping down on the alternator whicheck has forced me to replace that twice now. I took it to kia and they said it was the timing chain cover. It would cost 2,000. 00 to fix. I looked online and found out that a lot of other people are having the same issue and it seems the timing chain cover is a misdiagnosis. Apparently the oil sensor is the culprit. It malfunctions because of its location in the engine. I don't have 2000. 00 just to play a guessing game. This problem needs a recall. Lastly, due to the engine issues the oil leaking the car has now decided if I'm driving 60 mph it will all of the sudden shift the engine almost to a dead stop and then you feel as if you will fly thru the windshield because now the car won't go out of fourth gear manually or automatic. Please help.

13 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 02/01/2018

Internal short in the OCS mat sensor located in my passenger seat where there is rarely anyone sitting. This is a major safety issue that disables my entire airbag system. It's a $2100 repair that seems to be a recurring issue for kia.

14 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2014 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/30/2017

Kia has lots of issues with their air bags. From clock spring to sensors in the driver side and so on. Company does not take care of it and coming up with crazy estimates to fix, please just see how many complaints have been made on google. This is a safety issue and kia needs to take care of it without a charge until they fix their air bag problems.

15 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/01/2017

I may love my kia Sorento but when it comes to safety devices and faulty air bags kia could care less about ones safety. I have been parts and service director for Chrysler, Ford and Mitsubishi ad when these companies have faulty air bag components causing life and death scenarios they do not look at warranty dates and mileage. I have the Sorento that just falls out of a recall qualification by a couple months and they are refusing the repair the air bag fault saying maybe they will cover half. Well kia forces the repair to be a complete seat as they do not have repair parts for the air bag sensor. When I was at Chrysler customers would call the Chrysler hotline and Chrysler would do a deductible copay on transmission for anywhere between 200-500 for cars out of warranty by over 20k and more than a year. When it came to safety Chrysler very rarely ever charged a deductible or copay no matter what time or mileage. . . . . . . . . . . . Guess as much as I love my kia Sorento kia does not care about ones life and safety where Chrysler puts the safety as number one. Not sure I will be recommending any kia's anymore as they do not care about the life of the driver or passenger. So when the air bag does not work properly and causes a death kia will be seen in court paying out a lot of money for the death they caused. Also just for information the representative I have been speaking with is as polite as a snake and just plain arrogant saying it is my fault for the failure when there is a recall for the exact problem but my car production date is off by a month or two. This will be taken legal s the air bag is a safety issue and kia refuses to accept fault.

16 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 08/09/2017

Srs light has come on. Initially took it into a dealership in 8/2017, was told they were able to reset the sensor and the light went off. It has since come back on and now I am told I have to replace the OCS mat and it will cost me $1900. This is a safety issue and should be covered under the warranty. Srs light came on for no reason.

17 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 06/07/2017

Passenger seat sensor failed, vehicle is otherwise in perfect condition. The repair is almost 2000. 00. With this repair needed the vehicle won't pass inspection, so what is otherwise a perfectly fine vehicle is now scrap. The passenger seat was hardly used ( maybe 20% of the vehicle use ) so a failure of an expensive occupancy sensor like this is not acceptable.

18 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2012 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 12/01/2016

When me and my husband purchased the SUV used in 2016 from a huyndai dealer that is local, there has always been a sensor lit that we had no clue what it was. We were never told anything about it, they told us the vehicle was in good condition that it was inspected and everything. We took the SUV to kia in 2019 to have the oil changed, and had them check the motor to see if they could explain why we were going thru oil weekly. While we were there the service person told us that the OCS mat does not function that it needs replaced and that is what that sensor is for which we would have not known and the dealer that sold it to us never told us anything. I figured it was a weight sensor for a child as I am not an expert on the safety of vehicles. . . . Also, we were told that when the dealer sold us the vehicle as is that they never had a safety inspection done prior to put it on the lot. The last documented safety inspection on the vehicle was done when it was sold brand new when the first original owner bought it from the kia lot I believe in another state. Kia told me that they have to do the safety inspection before selling it on the lot because a non kia dealer sold us the vehicle. I did contact California state about my complaints and was told there was nothing that I can do to prove I didn't cause it but I have never been in any accident in the SUV that would cause the airbags to go off. . . . . I am driving daily with my children in the car without working airbags. I cannot afford to replace the OCS mat and I believe I shouldn't have to. Also, we have had issues with our gasket that we had to get fixed, we are constantly going thru oil and we only drive it around town. We are having to add oil in it every week so the engine does not blow. We now have a vacuum leak in the gasket.

20 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/22/2016

The airbag sensor light came on in sept 2016. The dealership stated that it was the passenger seat sensor that had gone bad. They stated that it could keep the passenger airbag from deploying or cause it to deploy without warning. Even though this was a safety issue it was not covered under warranty. They stated that I could have done something to cause the sensor to go bad inside the seat! the part w/ labor cost over $1500 to replace. Now 5 months late (Feb 2017) I am having the same issue again.

21 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

22 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 11/18/2015

2013 vehicle with 60,939 miles has airbag sensor light on immediately after recall SC 124 performed. Dealer indicates codes b1764 and 1765 OCS defect. Dealer states sensor does not recognize when passenger is in seat, making this a huge safety issue and that no one should sit in this seat because a collision could result in "tragedy. " kia says vehicle is out of warranty (by 939 miles) and I am second owner (purchased the vehicle with 12k mikes as certified pre-owned) therefore, kia will split the repair cost 3 ways-kia, dealer, me ($2,200. 00 repair and only factory parts can be used, resulting in over $700. . 23 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/02/2015

The airbag sensor light is on and the dealership is saying I need a new passenger airbag weight sensor. The cost is $1,800! kia previously recalled the 2007 and 2008 models but the problem seems to be happening on newer models as well. It seems that this is a safety issue and not normal wear and tear. Please consider a recall.

24 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2016 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 06/02/2015

When a cushion (small pillow) is used (I am a short person) on the front passenger's seat, the air bag detetecor turns off the passenger air bag leaving the passenger unprotected. I have contacted the dealer's service dept. And was told there was no work-around for this problem. I also contacted Kia Motors and was told the same thing. . Not fixable. Sitting in the front passenger seat is uncomfortable for me (arm rest height, windshield visibility, etc. ) without the small pillow. I cannot believe there is no way to disconnect the sensor (which I was told was weight sensitive. . . . Obviously not, because my weight is the same with or without the pillow). This leaves me without air bag protection or else uncomfortable. Had I known this in advance, I would not have purchased this vehicle. Not all people are the same height (I'm 5'3". . . Not all that short) and if kia was putting in this system, they should have made the front passenger seat height adjustable. . . Doesn't have to be electric, just adjustable in height. It is an unsafe condition which you have no knowledge of until you read the owner's manual. . . . A manual you don't have access to until after you've purchased the car. It needs to be corrected.

25 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

First noticed in the sept. Time period that the passenger airbag off light remained illuminated even after my wife sat down, and even if she tried shifting around to activate the seat sensor. My wife weighs more than 120 lbs. About 10% of the time the system senses her presence from her first sitting down, while that rises to about 75% if she shifts around to activate the sensor. Communication on the web and the austin dealership service representative noted that kia has had problems with activation of the front passenger seat sensor. In particular, kia had a safely recall SC 076 a (covering 2007-2008 kia Sorentos) which had symptoms identical to what we now are experiencing. The dealership service representative and the kia telephone help line claim my vehicle is not covered by that recall.

26 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 05/29/2014

Kia installed four passenger seat sensor pads in my 2009 and a new air bag module. While it was all covered by warranty work, now I paid $133. 54 to have it checked again, and they want me to pay an estimate of $2535. 34 plus tax to have the new sensor installed. I talked to a manager for kia and they said it was not there problem. It is a problem between me and the dealer where I bought the car, it seems to me that the dealer replaced the parts as long as it was under warranty but they never fixed the problem. ( what do I do}.

28 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2009 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 08/01/2010

Air bag is off light comes on the dash for the passenger side even if an adult is in the seat. I took it to the dealer 2 times while under warranty and the first time they said the computer just needed to be reset. The second time they said we were not sitting in the seat correctly. I told him I weighed 190 lbs that the whole seat was covered with my bottom. They said nothing was wrong with the sensor. I showed them pictures of my phone showing we were driving down the road and the light came on. They didn't seam to care. It still malfunctions about 80%, the warranty ran out a while ago. The light will come on while your sitting still and it will come on in the middle of driving. 35 Front Air Bag Sensor Control problem of the 2008 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 04/10/2009

Since we purchased our 2008 kia Sorento in March 2009, there has been a problem with the passenger seat where when I am sitting there and the "passenger airbag off" light is illuminated. I am 150 pounds, and moved myself around in the seat, weight centered, sitting properly. At the same time we have been fighting the issue of the esc off and check engine light as well, so the 3 times the vehicle has been to service for the esc off problem, we also told them about the passenger airbag off. My husband is the one who took the vehicle and the first time they told him that I was not positioned in the seat properly. The second time the vehicle went to the service dept, it was after I basically yelled at them on the phone and told them to rip out the seat if they had to in order to fix it. Again, my husband took it, they said that "the airbag will deploy, but it might be slow. " I knew this was incorrect. I know the way it works and if the sensor is not working properly and it says the airbag is off, it will not deploy. The third time it went to service for the esc off light problem, my father went and had a stern conversation with the service manager and advised him that he was a service manager and that he knows that it is his responsibility to find out the cause of the problem and fix it, especially being the car is under warranty and that this is a safety issue. They supposedly fixed the issue, I'm not sure what they did, but we have only had the problem again once in the past 6 months, as opposed to twice a week for over a year. I have filed a separate complaint regarding the esc off and check engine light.
