Air Bag Not Deploy Problems of Kia Motor Sorento - part 1

My son was traveling down a highway between 45-55 mph when he overcorrected and made full impact of the front of the car with a solid snow bank in the middle median. The radiator was slammed backwards, the front end was demolished with around $12,000 in damage to the vehicle. There is no reason we can find that the air bags did not deploy. We bought this vehicle because of the safety rating but now I am concerned that we have issues with our air bags. Will they protect us if this should ever happen again?.

I was driving approximately 35 miles per hour on a city street when another vehicle pulled out in front of me. The impact totaled the other vehicle and caused $7,500 in damage to my vehicle, and my air bags did not deploy. While I was not seriously injured, I did suffer significant whip-lash type injuries, and injured my knee when it hit the dash board.

Tl- the contact owns a 2018 kia Sorento. The contact stated while her husband was driving 35 mph, when another vehicle intersected his lane on the right side. The driver attempted to prevent a crash by swerving and crashed into the guard rail on the far left side. Air bags did not deploy. The driver did not have any injuries or seek medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was not drivable. The vehicle was towed to auto body shop. The contact called local dealer premier kia service center located at 205 n main st, branford, CT 06405, (203) 315-2070 and was made aware of the failure. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired as of yet. The manufacturer had been informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000. Dp.

Tl the contact owned a 2008 kia Sorento. The contact stated that he fell asleep while driving about 54 mph. Upon realizing what happened, the vehicle was steered off the road, into a grassy ditch, to avoid other vehicles. As the driver tried to re-enter the road, the vehicle rolled over a couple of times from east to west on opposite sides of the road and damaged the front driver's side of the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The driver sustained skin loss from lacerations on his leg and neck. The neck injury was caused by the seat belt's shoulder strap. The contact was treated by the emergency vehicle team at the roadside. The vehicle was totaled and was towed to a tow yard. The dealer and the manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.

The airbag light came on and remained on. We took it to the dealership to have it tested. First we had to pay a fee to have the diagnostic test run. We were then informed that the sensor in the passenger seat had gone bad and the airbags would not deploy without us repairing it. The cost to repair it was $2,000 because the entire seat had to be replaced. That was two weeks ago. Now the airbag light is on again.

I have faulty airbags in my vehicle why is there no recall vehicle hasn't been wrecked. Airbag were never deployed. My vehicle is not safe without airbag repair, as long as the airbag light is on on the dash the airbag system fails inspection. It needs to be a recall this is a safety hazard and cause death if I was to be involved in an accident.

At 97k miles, the airbag sensor light came on. After a $134 kia service visit, they determined we needed to replace our passenger side seat for an OCS sensor, at a cost of $2,550. The airbags have never been deployed in the vehicle. After reviewing many websites (and NHTSA), I see that this appears to be a common problem with this vehicle. There was a recall on the drivers side airbag clock spring, but it does not appear to be directly related to this issue with the car.

The contact called on behalf of her step-son whom was a passenger in a 2008 kia Sorento. The contact stated that her step- son passed away and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact stated that per the police report the driver was driving at approximately 55 mph when he loss control of the vehicle, crossing into on-coming traffic, colliding head on into the driver side of the other vehicle. The contact stated that the frontal driver side ar bag deployed however, the front passenger side air bag did not. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot and deemed a total loss. The driver sustained a broken foot that required medical attention however, the front seat passenger sustained fatal injuries. The manufacturer was not contacted by the contact's family. The approximate failure mileage was unknown.

Involved in a car accident while traveling on highway. Someone hit me very hard lost control of their vehicle. Airbags did not deploy at all.

I was involved in a rear end collision on Friday, Jan. 3, 2020. I was stopped/stationary behind a vehicle turning left on a one lane (in both directions) road traveling south. The car behind me struck my vehicle going between 30-35 mph. My vehicle was thrust forward and hit the vehicle in front of me and then the vehicle behind me struck my again, felt like bumper cars. During the initial rear impact my face slammed into the steering wheel causing my nose to bleed profusely for at least 25 minutes. I still have blood coming out of my nose four days later. During this accident in which my vehicle experienced both front and rear collision damage my air bag did not deploy nor did my seatbelt lock. As a result I suffered a head injury both front and back of my head.

At approximately 123k miles, the airbag sensor light came on. After a kia service diagnosis, it was determined that I need an OCS mat replacement, passenger side. The airbags have never been deployed. The cost is $2,700. After reviewing many consumer websites, I see that a great number of people are having the same problem. The light came on as I was starting the car and never went off. This appears to be a nationwide issue with a large number of people complaining. (I have a recall letter, but it is for the driver airbag clock spring. ).

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph the brake pedal extended to the floor while attempting to stop the vehicle causing the vehicle to crash into the rear of a second vehicle. During the incident the front end was severely damaged but the air bag did not deploy. The driver sustained an injured right ankle. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicle was towed away. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 112,600. Jft.

Airbag did not deploy during accident. Before accident airbag light was on and steering wheel functions were working (cruise, horn, volume ect. ) driver side window would not roll up.

Tl the contact owns a 2011 kia Sorento. The contact stated that the engine produced a loud knocking noise when the vehicle was started. Also, while driving 35-48 mph, a deer jumped out into the street. The contact swerved and crashed into a guardrail. The air bags did not deploy. There were no injuries. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to fuccillo kia (3900 state st, schenectady, NY 12304, (518) 847-0800) where the mechanic stated that the contact should have the vehicle serviced at the dealer's collision shop. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to have the body damage repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The cause of the failure was not determined. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 50,000.

Last week the airbag light came on in my car and apparently it is the coil spring in the steering wheel. From what we have done our research on, this is common for this vehicle but is not a recall. I do believe that if the is occuring in several of these models, it should be a recall. This is dangerous because the airbags may not deploy if the car is wrecked. I would appreciate proper change for this to be a recall.

The air bag light came on, then my horn stopped working and now the cruise control is not working. This should definitely be a safety recall as of I'm a accident my airbag will not deploy. Please recall and fix this safety issue.

Takata recall on 12/6/18 I was traveling at approximately 40-45 miles per hour when I rear ended a stopped or slow moving vehicle on the expressway. My car was heavily damaged but the airbags did not deploy. I am concerned about this issue.

Tl- the contact owned a 2008 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while making a left turned, she was rear ended by another vehicle and had a side impact by a second vehicle, the air bag failed to deploy. The contact sustained back, neck, shoulders, and internal bleeding from the seat belt that required medical attention. The front and rear passenger also sustained back and neck injuries that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for a diagnostic testing of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000. The VIN was not available. Aw.

Driving on highway, hit deer. Front airbags deployed. Car swerved onto median and front passenger side crashed into guardrail. Side airbag did not deploy. Unclear why side airbag did not deploy. Front passenger hit head on passenger door window and shattered window, sustained concussion.

Srs light on, replace entire passenger seat $3000. No accident air bags never deployed, car stationary light comes on yet passenger in seat sensor works.

My 2011 kia Sorento is accident-free. When the mileage was at about 85,000, the air bag light turned on when I started the car one day, and has stayed lit when the car is running ever since. Around the same mileage, I noticed that the passenger air bag "off" light is sometimes lit when there is an adult passenger, and it is sometimes not lit when no passenger is in the passenger seat. From what I read online, this is a known issue that is expensive to fix (the clock spring electrical assembly and the passenger occupant sensor mat or entire passenger seat needs replacement). It looks like kia had a recall on this same issue for the 2007-8 kia rondo and the 2006-8 kia optima; this should be a recall for the 2011 kia Sorento. I will get this repair completed since it is an obviously unsafe defect - I read many consumer complaints about air bags failing to deploy in an accident.

On or about 8/15/2018 @11:45 pm I was involved in a car / deer accident. A small heard of deer bounded out of the woods and one jumped over the front of my car. I swerved right and hit head on with a tree at about 45/50 mph. The car contacted around the inside of the passengers headlight. "the air bags did not deploy". I contacted kia of America and spoke with a mr. Gustavo. A claims person, and of course told him the whole story of the accident. He asked me what I wanted to happen / do. I explained that I wanted kia to sent out a recovery team to pick up the vehicle because it is defective, unsafe and a danger to drive and that there was no way I was going to put my wife and children back into that car. Then on or about 9/6/2018 @12:08 mr. Gustavo called me and informed me that kia, more or less, refused any responsibility and they were not going to do any thing to help me out with this vehicle. I asked to be put thru to a supervisor at that point who is a mr. Jeff stroupa, claims supervisor # 949-468-4620. I explained the whole situation to him and that my wife is completely affaird to drive the car and refuses to put our children in this vehicle as it is defective, unsafe and dangerous to drive on the highway and that this vehicle should be destroyed. I also told him I wanted him to sent out a recovery team to pick up this vehicle. He ask me to send him pictures and I did so on or about 9/18/2018. I also had to send mr. Stroup another message on or about 9/24/2018 @ 8/30 pm, my time, because I hadn't heard back from after I sent the pictures. I still have not heard from him to date, 9/25/2018 @ 248 pm.

This is a resent of a previous report dated 9/25/2018 complaint # 11131590. I received a phone call today 10/1/2018 @ about 3:10 pm from ali sating I should refile. On or about 8/15/2018, 11:45 am I was involved in a car deer accident. A small heard of deer bounded out of the woods from my left, one deer jumped over the hood of the car. I was at a speed at about 40 / 45 miles per hour. I swerved left and hit a tree head on. The car contacted the tree on the inside of the passengers headlight. The air bags did not deploy. I contacted kia of America to enter a complaint. The bottom line here is; kia, a mr. Jeff stroup, a complaint supervisor, has stated that kis has refused to take any responsibility and stand behind their product and help me out with this complaint. In my request to kia I asked them to sent out a response team to recover this vehicle because it is defective, unsafe and a danger to put back on the highway. I told kia that there is no way I'm never going to put my wife and / or our family, children, back in that vehicle.

Was traveling on the interstate at around 60mph when a large deer ran out across the road. I attempted to swerve and avoid hitting the animal but was not successful. I hit the deer around 55-60 mph with a direct impact to the front of the vehicle. There was extensive damage to the fender, hood, grill, radiator and according to the insurance claim adjustor, the engine was shifted back into the firewall. During this impact the airbags did not deploy which creates a safety concern for me. I spoke with kia and their findings were that the mass was not large enough to trigger the airbags that I needed to either have direct impact with another car or a wall of some sort. I feel that an impact at that speed and to the front end of a vehicle the airbags should have deployed. I have the document that kia sent if needed.

Car shifter is not engaging and disengaging resulting in not being able to place car in park. This issues was a recall before however; the fix didn't resolve the problem and kia has not offered a new fix. Also, air bag light still illuminating after recall fix. Again kia refuse to fix and issue could cause air bag not to deploy in an accident. Also, back rear passenger door won't open from the inside or outside.

"takata recall" on may 12, 2018 I was driving on a highway when I was hit from the driver side rear corner panel at 70mph and made my car fish tail causing my car to roll over four times and the steering wheel airbag did not deploy at all, only airbags that deplyed were the curtain airbags, even though the car had front end damage. I think this needs to be looked at as well ASAP.

The seat belt light has become illuminated due to a sensor failure in the passenger seat. This problem is well known and discussed among kia owners. The failure of the sensor causes all of the airbag system to fail and the airbags will not deploy. With the recent recalls to other kia and Hyundai models, this model should be expanded to include this model.

The contact owns a 2013 kia Sorento. While the contact's vehicle was idling at a stop light, another vehicle crashed into its rear. As a result, the contact crashed into the preceding vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained injuries to the head, neck, and lower back. The front passenger sustained injuries to the head, neck, and arm that required medical attention. A police report was filed. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to an automotive shop. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000.

Was told by the dealer that the passenger side front seat sensor needs to be replaced. After researching it turns out there are multiple people having the same issue with this model and various years. The airbags will not deploy unless it is fixed.
