3 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2006 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 02/04/2014

On January 17, 2015, I retrieved my 2006 kia Sorento lx from the dealership. I had to have the water pump and heater hoses replaced. It was suggested that since my vehicle had close to 60k miles on it that according the manufacturer that the timing belt be replaced. It cost me a little over $1,200. Two weeks later I was at a stop light waiting to make a left turn. As I proceeded to make my left, from a complete stop, the vehicle bogged, stalled, the dashboard lights all came on for an instant and the steering wheel locked. Luckily there was no on coming traffic and I was able to pull into a parking lot. I got the vehicle to stop and attempted to re-start my car and it did. Nothing happened to the vehicle again until a week later and it did the same thing again. I took it that there was a possibility that it was cheap gas. My husband, on Saturday 02/14/2015, moved the vehicle to the front of the house and parked it. At 4 p. M. We went to leave and the vehicle wouldn't start. I googled some information and had to re-set the fuel cut off switch under the hood and that fixed the problem temporarily. Last night, 02/16/2015, the vehicle did the same thing again and again we had to re-set the fuel cut off switch and the engine light remained on. Today, 02/17/2015, we returned the vehicle to the dealership to have it diagnosed and they determined that the camshaft positioning sensors and the crank shaft positioning sensor need to be replaced and now they want to charge me another $1,100. I have gone online and done some research and found several other complaints similar to mine. I also noted that there was a class action lawsuit in NJ for the same thing. It seems to me that Kia Motors is aware of the problem and just turning a blind eye. These problems continue after repairs are made according to the complaints I found.

4 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 05/20/2013

3/2/13 had timing belt replaced @50,031 miles on my 2005 kia Sorento to manual specs. Drove from phx to nashville. 5/2013 I heard a terrible squeaking sound under my hood, first thought loose belt. Went on to get it check out&as I was trying to make a right turn a few blocks from the house,my steering wheel was almost impossible to turn. Thought my power steering pump had gone out. I almost ran over 2 people crossing the street&almost hit another car. I was turning my steering wheel to the right w/all my might! everyone was honking at me&thought I was probably drunk! I was so upset. Had it towed to kia. My power train still under warranty,am original owner&denied coverage 3x. They tried to sell me a used engine for $5k. Stated they knew they could not get the broken piece of bolt out. I did some research on-line&there is many complaints w/ this problem, some have had it happen 2,3,4 x. Mgr. Told me my model had the new re-designed bolt,&it was brakes plus fault when they put on the timing belt. Mgr. Said that they should have never used the old bolt&that they put on a new bolt when replacing timing belt. I heard a TSB went out regarding the bolts to all service shops to use the new re-design bolt on 03&04 models, but not 05. If I had gotten a copy of that notice,I would have made sure that whoever replaced timing belt, used new bolt. A kia tech wrote:8/10/12 its not the bolt, it is the crank sprocket&balancer, the design of the balancer sticks out to far&weighs to much breaking off the spring guide pin. When there is a repair,we replace them everytime we do a timing belt on one. You take the crack sprocket&balancer&u add 2 more spring pins as well as drill&tap the crank&install a timesert (heavier helicoil) have not had one of these come back,if anyone is doing a timing belt I highly recommend doing this at the same time, but it will not break the bolt or sheer the guide pin.

5 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

The contact owns a 2003 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle made an abnormal noise when the battery and another unknown warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact had to pump the brake pedal several times before the vehicle would stop and the power steering stop working. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the crank shaft pulley bolt was holding too much weight causing it to fracture. The vehicle had been repaired but the failure recurred on numerous occasions. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000.

7 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 10/10/2010

Purchase used 2011 kia Sorento with less than 12,000 miles from dealership. Car was making loud noises 2 days after purchase in the front of the vehicle. Took it in it was the power steering pump which needed to be replaced. After it's replacement less than a week later the problem started up again. Dealership said it wasn't bleed properly and had air in the system. After they bleed the pump the noise starts up next day. Now they have two replace the pump again. However they don't have the part in stock. After driving around for a week waiting for the part to arrive the car has been pulling when I drive and the wheel seems stuck when I try to turn. I feel it's extremely unsafe and feel they should have kept the car until the part arrived.

8 Power Steering Pump problem of the 2003 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 01/05/2010

I bought a 2003 kia Sorento about 6 years ago and I've had a lot of problems. The worst and most recent problem is the gas spews out of the tank every time I try to fill it. It runs down the side of the car and on my wheel. Sometimes it gets on me. This has been going on for several months now. If you pump very slow and stop every . 80 cents it lessens the amount of times it spews out, but this is so very timely. The gas gauge periodically goes out. The horn has never worked. The power steering periodically goes out. When using cruise control it will periodically go off on it's own. The paint looks horrible and has peeled off on the side mirrors. The leather seats have not held up well. The dome light will not work when you open the door, but if you press the dome light button it will come on. Periodically the dash lights have flickered and I'm wondering if they are about to go out. I've already had to replace the ac compressor and the drive shaft, both of which have really set me back financially. I really want to get the gas tank issue fixed as it is the worst issue at hand and I fear it could be dangerous.
