3 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2020

Nhtsa campaign id 19v120000: the sc176 recall on my car was repaired may 30, 2019. Earlier this year my car began showing the signs of the further damage noted in the recall details. In April 2020 my car randomly stalled when in motion on a city street and the check engine light came on. I was able to coast off the road and eventually start the car again. The pandemic prevented me from having it serviced at my kia dealership or elsewhere. Since April, this has occurred five times, both on city streets and the highway while in motion. The highway event was frightening as I was in heavy traffic travelling at 60 mph. My local one stop oil change re-opened and I was able to get an oil change may 5, 2020 at 110,431, then again on August 24, 2020 at 114,121 miles at one stop (receipt attached). A week later my engine oil pressure warning light came on despite the recent oil change. I added oil, but in two weeks the level is again low and I put in 2 quarts. I took it to the kia service center September 16, 2020 at 115,179, and the oil was again low as shown on the attached receipt. Kia service was unable to determine the cause of the lost oil. Although my car had the repair performed for the recall, I'm afraid the piston has been damaged, causing the engine stalls. My oil is leaking out somewhere, so I fear it may be the broken connecting rod that has punctured the engine block allowing the engine oil to escape. The kia quote for the brake, exhaust and tire work was expensive, so I had a friend's expert mechanic do the repairs for less. He warned me that the oil was leaking out and the engine may blow and I'll need a new engine, and strongly suggested I sell the car before that occurs. I cannot, in good conscience, sell it knowing the risk to a new owner. I hope this explanation will lead to kia repairing my car properly.

6 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2013 kia Soul. While driving at an unknown speed, a piston rod disconnected and punctured the engine. The failure caused oil to leak and the engine to smoke due to oil leaking onto the hot exhaust component. The contact was concerned that the engine would catch on fire and she quickly pulled the vehicle over. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the VIN was not included in a recall. The contact stated that she previously visited vision kia of canandaigua (2445 rochester rd rte 332, canandaigua, NY 14424, (585) 394-4542) where they checked the ecu logic improvement only and did not check the catalytic converter. The dealer stated that the catalytic converter was not damaged; however, the contact stated that this was not stated at all in the paperwork from the dealer. The contact stated that the damage to the contact's vehicle matched the failure listed in NHTSA campaign number: 19v120000 (engine and engine cooling). The dealer quoted a repair cost of over $4,000. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 117,000.

7 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

This is the second complaint being filed reguarding this car. After we filed the first complaint we took our car back into the kia dealership for the check engine light flashing. They scanned engine and didn't find anything. They topped off our oil because it was half full. I just recently got my oil change done there 2,000 miles ago. According to the owners manual it should be done every 7,500 miles. The following day we were driving down the freeway, pulled off at our exit and smelled a horrid leak burning/ rotten egg/ sulfur smell. We immediately pulled of the road and checked the car for flames. We didn't find any. I'm really starting to feel unsafe about being in this vechiel.

8 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2019

Engine shut down lost all oil. Kia took it to dealership where they say it's because I changed my own oil and had a kink in filter. I have changed my oil for years do most of my own work build trucks for a living no way this is possible I changed the oil about 4 months ago it would have leaked the 1st time I drove it. Kia corporate and dealer stand. Be there tech. Theres fixing to be a recall that describes my issue to the detail. The corporate lady I spoke to when it happend said it sounded just like the recall that's fixing to come out. Had it towed to dealer then they back track. There is no way this is possible a mechanic I know said he has had 3 or 4 in the last 2 years come in his garage for same thing. Anything yall can do to help me thanks. Wife was driving to work like normal engine just died no noise no lights nothing.

9 Engine Oil Leaking problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2019

I just read about the recall for the catalytic converter overheating and causing oil leakage. My VIN is not showing under the recall but my car is losing oil and the engine light came on. The mechanic says it is giving the code for the catalytic converter. My car is also losing power and I can hear a noise under the hood that sounds like metal hitting metal. The recall says it includes the 2013 kia Soul with the 1. 6 engine and I'm wondering if mine will be included in the recall.
