Mdps coupler worn and causing steering wheel instability and noise when driving over 60 mph. There was a recall previously that I wasn't aware of but my car had not yet experienced the problem. I am experiencing it now, but kia says I must fix at my own cost since the recall period is passes, though I didn't have the issue then or recieve the notice.

On [xxx], we were driving on [xxx] from wisconsin into minnesota to park at msp airport. Near the state border, we began to hear a clunk sound in the steering column. We chose to park the car at a friend's home near the airport in her garage in case we needed service upon our return from texas where we travelling to. Prior to driving back to our home from minneapolis on [xxx] (1. 5 hours), we checked with our local mechanic to see if it were safe to drive. He could not diagnose over phone, but suggested coupling issue and that we drive carefully. We made it back home, took car to our local mechanic on 7 October, and thought it would be better to check dealership in eau claire, WI (another 30 minute drive). We drove there, slowly, on 18 October, and were told that it was probably the mdps/flexible coupling, but that it would cost us 175 to check, and another 250-300 to replace the 15. 00 part. We drove home and had a family emergency out of state and will return now to wisconsin soon and want to get this fixed as soon as possible. We understand now that this is a persistent problem for many kia 2013 Soul and other kias and that NHTSA has been supportive to some owners over this matter. We do not object to paying for the repair, but not at price-gouging levels. From what we understand, the inspection needed to check for the flex coupling is not difficult nor time consuming. We are afraid to drive the car for safety sake, but we need the car to drive! do we have any rights to a free inspection if this is a problem with many kias? there were no warning lights and no symptoms prior to the sudden noise and now there is a persistent and regular clunk when the steering wheel is moved. Thank you for any information regarding this issue. Again, no accident and no injuries or results from clunk, but kia history seems to suggest a potential recall need. The attached mdps flexible coupling warranty announcement identifies "noise when turning the steering wheel" and later "especially when stopped" as the concern for which kia would authorize a repair within warranty. The same is in the attached technical service bulletin posted to your site. Identifying noise as the concern is deceptive, the noise arises from the fact that there is loss of synchony between the steering wheel and the steering. So, while while the car is in motion and the steering wheel is held steady, the wheels and steering turn somewhat in reaction to the road surface, at times alarmingly. I first became aware of this several weeks ago but am told by another driver(my child) that it's been happening for a while. My mechanic was aware of the issue and thought there was a related recall (which proved wrong), but still suggested I seek repair at kias responsibility as a safety concern. After having contacted kia customer service, I scheduled recall service (unelated items) with a kia dealer and added discussion of the steering to the visit (11. 25. 24) through kia customer service. In the course of that visit, the dealer indicated that the mdps would continue to deteriorate and could result in the steering locking up and offered to repair at my cost. At that same time, I was on the phone with kia seeking their responsibility and I declined the dealer's offer. Today I received an unsolicited telephone call from kia (jen-escalated case representative 520. 274. 1098. ) the purpose was to inform me that because I declined the dealer's offer to repair at my cost, any harm that might come from the defect is my responsibililty. Presumably, owner assumption of responsibilty is behind warranty announcement's instructing the recipient to provide the notice to new owner(s) in the event of ownership transfer. Please review this mdps defect for consideration for safety recall. Kia knows that noise is not the concern. I am glad to allow your inspection.

The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the steering rack, and pinion plugs were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was advised that the steering rack and pinion plugs were faulty and would need to be replaced. The steering wheel is making a noise and is having a caution sign with the steering wheel on it.

I am experiencing multiple safety and performance issues with my 2015 kia Soul: 1. Vibration at idle: significant vibration when the vehicle is idling at a red light. Possible causes include worn engine mounts, faulty spark plugs or ignition coils, issues with the idle control valve or throttle body, or vacuum leaks. 2. Electrical issues: • codes: b111216 (ignition voltage low), b17672f (OCS algorithm cut off), b251100 (head lamp high lh scg), b251300 (head lamp low lh scg) • symptoms include low battery voltage warnings and short circuits in the headlamp circuits. Possible causes might be a failing battery or alternator, or damaged electrical wiring. 3. Emission system problems: • codes: p0455 (evaporative emission system leak detected), p0420 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold) • symptoms: check engine light related to emission control systems. Potential causes include a loose or damaged gas cap, cracked evap hoses, faulty purge or vent valves, and failing catalytic converter or oxygen sensors. 4. Airbag system issues: • codes: b151100 (buckle switch driver open or short to battery), b110200 (battery voltage low), b149000 (OCS defect) • symptoms: warning lights related to the airbag system. Possible causes include faulty seat belt buckle switches, low battery voltage, or issues within the occupant classification system. 5. Tpms issues: • codes: c1314 (sensor 3 radio frequency channel failure), c1662 (auto learning failure) • symptoms: tpms warnings and inability to correctly monitor tire pressure. Possible causes are sensor failures or calibration issues. Despite regular maintenance, these issues persist and affect the safety and drivability of my vehicle. I request an investigation into these problems to determine if they are common in this model and if there are any recalls or service bulletins that address them. Budget rental out of ksgf. This dangerous compact SUV is unfit for united states roads and interstate highways. In 2 weeks the car over 8x attempted to overpower my driver inputs nearly driving me in to semi tractor trailer rigs. Further every time that happens a loud annoying message to take a coffee break even 7 minutes into the drive since engine start up. The partial turn off only partly lessens this dangerous technology. It attempts to stop the driver from steering and accelerator and even brake inputs. Maybe appropriate in south korea type of roads and laws and high density of autos. . . Not true in the continental u. S. .

Steering wheel shakes violently when going over 75mph and is extremely shaky on side streets as well. The steering wheel feels like it’s going to fall off! got it checked out by kia and they said the flexible steering coupling needs repairing and it would be over $900 to do so for a part that costs less than $10! I have an extended warranty and I was told the warranty doesn’t cover this issue, but at the bare minimum it seems like it should as it feels dangerous at times to drive the car. Also, this issue should be a recall for kia as I have seen a ton of other people with this issue! it’s a defect in the car and should be a free recall to be fixed .

My kia Soul started having play in the steering and sounding clunky when driving. I took it in today to jeff eyler kia on mitchell Ave cincinnati ohio to do recalls and to check this out. They said I should replace the whole steering wheel. Online there are many complaints about this steering problem yet you have not made kia to recall. It seems that it is a plastic part coupler yet the kia dealer service is trying to get me to replace the whole column. What is being done about all these complaints. I see on the complaint website there has been 6 accidents and 2 deaths. Please do something.

Despite being assured for years by kia that my vehicle was not affected by this recall, I received a recall notice in December 2023 for the hecu. Now it is April, and my vehicle still is not repaired because kia still has not supplied the part required to fix this safety issue. Because of the high theft issue of my vehicle, I cannot park it outside and kia is now telling me I cannot park the vehicle inside because of fire hazard. I have had to pay a higher insurance premium just to keep my car insured and have even been denied insurance by farmers and progressive. I am afraid to drive my car and how am I supposed to afford another car? some dealers will not even consider the car as a trade in.

No warning but the steering is shaking a going out on turns. It almost didn't turn properly in oncoming traffic with children in the car. Kia refused to fix the "star flexible coupling" from their recall: wty013 or chao74revision2 or the mdps flex coupling replacement was not done by by kia as the allowed owners get a free repair. We didn't get notice and now the kia dealers refuse to fix this. Kia refuse to fix it or help. For the steering going out because the steering is shakey and is not stable, its unsafe, risky and my children are in the car. The repair notice was not received at the previous owner and we bought car and moved to FL. I want to complain that kia will not honour its recall and fix this. I want to use kia of ft. No warning indicators but my steering couple has worn and my steering now has play. Many forums says this is a know problem for kia and they should cover but I do not see a recall.

There is a known issue with the mdps flexible coupling effecting a large number of kias but kia apparently hasn't included all cars manufactured during this period of time.

I'm already aware of the recalls on alot of vehicles including my 2013 kia Soul and am aware of a judges ruling on this. How can kia Soul play god with peoples lives? I already filed a claim but still not not getting any help until the end of April. I'm a single 63 year old woman who is at risk of getting hurt not to mention other people/and or other people close to my vehicle. This is just beyond wrong. I saved for 2 years to get a more dependable vehicles and now have to worry about an explosion. I already filed a claim but I'm scared. The radio has been funky since I got it last year. It's a used vehicle buy to me it looked new to me. I love it bur now afraid to even get in it but really don't have a choice since I'm 63 yrs and don't have anyone else to get help or have another vehicle to use. I depend solely on myself. I need help with getting another vehicle until all of this mess is taken care of. I have gas gauge issues, revinng up randomly, caution light staying on now and yesterday I had smoke coming out under the dash and then it just stopped while I was trying to pull off and call for help but it stopped so I came back home. The oil was changed right after I got it last year and I put new tires on it with the money I got from a junk yard in johnson city that came to get my 98 Ford escort that my church family helped for me after a very traumatic accident that killed my little senior rescue pommy, totaled my vehicle and I spent several days in icu. I live on a very strict monthly income and this has caused more anxiety and panic issues that I can't even get under control with breathing exercises, journaling and taking my fur baby for walks and am back on my regular meds. While driving on the freeway, last month mid to late Feb, my steering wheel started spinning in one direction,. The control arm on the right side of the vehicle came off of the car's right front wheel and I skidded to the side of the road at approximately 65 to 70 miles per hour. Fortunately, there was not an accident. The control arms were replaced and there were no further incidents. Regardless, given the multiple engine recalls and problems with the kia Soul 2019 2. 0 plus, I have no confidence in it's integrity to the safety standards set. This is not only related to the car, but mostly due to the behavior of the company in its continued efforts to otherwise resist compliance with engine replacement after my mechanic both viewed rod bearings seeing they may impose some risk. (see previous complaint).

My husband rick and I own a 2018 kia Soul, 102,000 miles, and in February, my daughter was driving to school and the front end of the car became shaking violently. It was so dangerous that my husband would not let my daughter drive it, as it was easy to lose control of the car. We took the car in to the kia dealership to be diagnosed. The steering shaft needed to be replaced, a total cost of $941. 53, paid 2/19/24. After talking with mechanics and researching this part, it was clear that this part should last the lifetime of the car; in fact, I spoke with a mechanic who said they have never seen this issue, let alone in a 6 year old car. I continued searching online and saw that this was a problem in older models of kia Souls, and there were recalls on the 2012- 2016 models for the same issue we experienced. So I called kia to see if there was a recall on the 2018 model. They said no and that since there was not an extended warranty on the car, they would not reimburse or pay for the repair. I sent a message stating my position of outrage, that this repair is unacceptable since the part should last the lifetime of the car, and that obviously there was faulty manufacturing of the part. This posed a danger to my daughter, who is a college student, and kia should be responsible for the repair. Kia sent my complaint to the escalation department for review, where I have been communicating with kayla from the customer care unit. I have been corresponding and waiting for a decision for reimbursement since February, and today I was told that my request was denied. My case number is #16160663.

Certainly. I own a 2016 kia Soul, and recently I've become aware of some serious issues with the vehicle that are deeply concerning. It has come to my attention that the car is experiencing piston damage, which could potentially result in engine stalling, thereby significantly increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, there is a possibility that a broken connecting rod may puncture the engine block, leading to the escape of engine oil. This could not only cause significant damage to the engine but also poses a serious safety hazard. In the worst-case scenario, the leaking oil may come into contact with the hot exhaust system, significantly increasing the risk of a my 2016 kia Soul has been causing me a lot of trouble. Every 5-6 months, it needs a tune-up, and it frequently starts making loud noises from the engine. The car also has a concerning habit of skipping, and at times, it won't go faster than 20 miles an hour. This unreliable performance has put me in dangerous situations, including being side-swiped due to the vehicle randomly cutting off while driving. In an effort to get to the bottom of these issues, I had a diagnostic test run on the car, and the results were troubling. The codes that came up include p1326 for the glow relay stuck on the power train system, as well as anti-lock codes what is particularly distressing about this situation is that despite the severity of these potential risks, kia of pendleton has refused to address the issue and rectify the problems with my vehicle. This lack of action is extremely worrying, especially given that I regularly travel with my two kids in the car. The safety of my family is paramount, and the fact that we have almost been involved in crashes twice due to these issues is deeply troubling. I am reaching out for assistance and resolution in this matter. The safety of my vehicle and the well-being of my family are at stake, and I urgently need a response and a plan to address these serious safety concerns.

I recieved notice in the mail that there are recalls on my car prior to recieving the notice I had recently got an oil change and I was informed that there is a little leaking and in recall number 20v750 the car can possible catch on fire so I waited for my appointment with the dealer it was inspected and they did not fix leak I had paperwork however I dont know what this shit means what I do know is when I got my car back I was not operating correctly and the check engine light is on and it was not on when I dropped my car off to them I have made at least 5 phone calls reachng out to the dealerand I have not talked to anyone.

I looked it up. It's called the steering coupler. The manufacturer is aware of the problem but I was never notified about it before the warranty ran out August 2023. Now it affects the steering. Here is a service notice that I found online if that helps: TSB 10159268. Thank you.

The engines makes a weird chatter noise all the time.

Steering coupler needs replaced per dealership. Vehicle has 72,000 miles only. No recall notice received. One owner. I feel they could replace an expensive item less than $550. Goodwill.

My steering coupler is bad.

My mdps steering wheel coupler has completely failed. I never recieved a letter from kia and only found out they had a warranty extension through searching the web to see what the horrible noise and play in my steering wheel was. I dont qualify for this extension by 9 months. I purchased my car 1/2013 and that puts me past the 10 year mark. I see kia has extended this warranty to 15 years/150,000 miles on the newer cars with the same mileage, is there a chance they will do it with the Souls or have they and maybe I am missing it.

I’ve had the steering slip several times and recently the steering coupler went out causing loose, bumpy steering and a popping sound when turning.

First off I do not use my lane keep assist. When traveling at any speed on a long curves of 100 to 150 ft or longer or sitting in a parking lot with the steering wheel angled between 15 to 30 degrees either left or right of center for 15 to 30 seconds the system will (in a sense) fall asleep. On the long corners this causes a dangerous situation for the driver and others because with the system falls asleep it will continue tracking the same course without recentering unless forced to re-engage. In other words it will not come out of the curve without forceful input from the driver. The vehicle has been in to the dealer where the issue has been dulpicated and confirmed by two technicians and dismissed by master tech without actually test driving. This issue should be labeled warning because serious injury or death will eventually happen.
